I'm…read moresitting here with COVID going through a long "to-do" list of things I've always meant to check-off so, here I am, reviewing this place. First the good: The A-frames are fantastically built and appointed. They look like they were built more to be photographed for the latest social media app than they were built to be lived in. The location is incredible, it's easy to walk right on down to the beach. The bad: This place has a very, very odd tone. On one hand, the business talks about community and integrating into the community. On the other hand, it charges $450/night with a 2-night minimum? It really takes a privileged person to be able to afford $900 for a weekend, probably not someone from the community. On top of that, you are expected to do little "chores" around the A-frames...or risk paying even more. Seriously. This place is priced like a luxury hotel but has chores like a $20/night hostel. Very confusing and conflicting vibes. The views: when we were there, the views from the A-frame were of other cabins...under construction. So we mainly had views of white sheets of TYVEK. You are really, really close to the other A-frame. You are forced to get friendly. Depending on who is in the other A-frame this could be really good or really bad. Again, an odd thing for $900. I was lucky enough that my girlfriend surprised me with a night here for my birthday. The only way she could afford it is because she begged to do one night only, and they also gave us a slight discount because of the TYVEK views. It's great if you can afford it, just make sure you do all your chores. For those of us that are used to sleeping on public lands (the owners include themselves in this lot)...this is only good for a one-time splurge and even then...your $900 might be better spent on a plane ticket to somewhere else.

Soo's B&B is lovely!…read more Cleanliness is off the charts great (yet it still feels like your home to spread out & use the facilities). The rooms are spacious and well-kept. She has 2 facilities: The main house (the A-Framed one) and the "cottages" across the street. My niece and I stayed in the main while my sister and her hubby stayed in one of the cottages. The cottages boast a full kitchen, with fridge, stove, sinks, microwave and even a stacked washer & dryer. Also being separate from the main house, if you're having a long stay, this would be ideal as you won't disturb anyone with comings & goings. There appeared to be 3 of these cottages. In the main, there are 5 bedrooms, ALL with private bathrooms! :) Soo makes a terrific breakfast that's included... forget those scrawny little donuts or cold cereals you'll see at a hotel. She made us scrambled eggs, sausage, muffins, home-made blueberry compote and fresh squeezed orange juice! I'm tellin' ya... it's a great way to start the day! She also knows the local area & can tell you about discounts and things to see. When we arrived, she showed us the code to get in, the etiquette (removing shoes- great cleanliness idea in Alaska), and showed us around her beautiful home. Soo also used to live in Anchorage, where my sister still lives and I used to, and owned a sewing shop. When we arrived, and my sister made the connection, and I off-handed asked if she could re-attach the handles on my favorite tote. I didn't really expect a yes...but she said YES! The next morning at breakfast, there was my repaired tote on the chair in the dining room. She refused any compensation, but I will be forever grateful. Every night we were there a warm fire greeted us with snapping and popping welcoming us back from our Seward explorations! The kitchen and cooking area is always clean and welcoming. You must cook your own food, there are flattops, BBQ grills, or even a stick by the campfire. I was familiar with s'mores which they provide ingredients for but I was introduced to stick bread, its life changing! There are so many options to use you can make gourmet meals or something simple, they make it easy no matter what your cooking abilities will allow! Morning coffee and tea are waiting hot and fresh, they also provide pancake/waffle mix for you to add to your planned meal. They have a supply of chocolate chips for a sweet twist but if you want with Alaskan style, and if you're lucky enough to be staying during blueberry season the property is abundant with high bush blueberries! Send someone out on a blueberry walk and add them to your fresh waffles or pancakes. Alaskan summer brings out the midnight sun, literally, but for extra light the paths to all of the yurts are well lit which make late night snack time or early morning coffee pleasant. The yurts do not have bathrooms inside them, you must venture out to the shared facilities. If you want an adventure that is unique, fun, and will be a memorable part of your Alaska experience, the Nauti Otter is the best!

DISABLED / MOBILITY ISSUE TRAVELERS BEWARE!…read more This hotel does not care about you! I am on a 100 day tour around Alaska and Canada and have travelled through the south eastern islands / marine highway and Haines Junction / Tok by this point with no issue. 5 nights booking. Stated in booking I had mobility issues. Did not check until I arrived then they downgraded me to a room on the second floor via elevator. Would they come get me in an emergency? Would not have chosen this hotel if I couldn't get the advertised room. The given room only had a single handrail in the bathroom a distance from the toilet or sink. The shower was not step-free but mostly step-free. There was no rubber mat. The breakfast was very difficult to use with a walker and there was no assistance. On 3 occasions non disabled guests parked or blocked the disabled spots, raised with front desk, did nothing. On two of those occasions the lots were also full and I had to walk with my walker a significant distance in the rain. They had company vehicles blocking spots preventing me entering and others leaving and when asked if they could move temporarily I was told no. On third occurrence of disabled use/blocking informed them if I see it again I will be contacting police. Supervisor told me he was unaware of these issues which means they must have never raised or discussed them among themselves. He got sarcastic with me and told me I should call the police right now. I said it's your hotel I'm doing you a courtesy by telling you and not calling the police but I will the next time I see it. Staff was patient and helpful in answering my husband's many questions -- he does not like to look at information online before coming. We got a cabin within a few minutes walk of the main lobby. I misunderstood the thermostat and thought it would cool the cabin while we went out for the evening, but when we returned it had actually warmed the cabin. We had to open the window to cool it because we are used to sleeping in a cold room. The Lodge bus took us to the Seward marina & downtown for dinner & walking/ pictures. Next morning we walked 5 minutes or so to the Resurrections Roadhouse for breakfast. The "buffet" was scarce and about the same cost so we ordered a la carte. I got the Bear Creek Bowl with Alaskan Salmon Lox. The shower curtain has red mold or whatever it is and it's so gross that I didn't want to shower here. Fast forward I open the towel and there's hair in there too! How DISGUSTING!! Also the room is dusty!!! If you have dust allergy, good luck! The lamp has so much dust on it, the window pane was gross with black dust. The heater doesn't work properly either! Called front desk and all they said was sorry. Better to sleep in the car than be in this gross room breathing in the mold and smell. I wonder what it's doing to my health. This hotel needs to be shut down by the authorities unless they at least offer basic hygiene.

We had a little mix-up with our arrival into town via charter bus from Anchorage and were dropped off at the cruise terminal instead of our hotel. When we were about 30 minutes out, I called the front desk to let them know what had happened. They told me to call again when we arrived at the terminal and said they would send the Hotel Courier to pick us up. When we arrived, the Courier happened to be at lunch, but instead of making us wait, they said, "No need to worry!" One of the front desk staff members offered to come pick us up in their own personal car. And they did just that! We were back at the hotel in a jiffy. That level of hospitality really set the tone for our entire stay. Our room was lovely, the in-lobby convenient stop was so handy, and we just felt like we were one of the family every time we encountered the front-desk staff. We were sad to only be staying for one night! THANK YOU for making our stay a beautiful experience all around!

If you're considering the Hotel Seward, go in knowing you'll be paying a premium rate for a highly stripped-down experience. I'd look elsewhere. The single most surprising thing: they provide no housekeeping services whatsoever. No daily tidy, no fresh towels, nothing. Even budget hotels offer housekeeping, so to find it entirely absent at this price point was completely baffling. My "renovated" room was on the ground floor with what the listing might generously call a view - of the parking lot. People walked past my window and cars pulled in and out just feet from my door, so privacy and quiet were in short supply. Moreover, the room relied on 80's baseboard heating. For the money, I expected far more comfort and far more service than I got. Lastly, zero breakfast of any kind included. Nothing. I stayed at the Hotel 360 on the harbor for the same price and it was GORGEOUS, with all the amenities (great breakfast, housekeeping, super friendly staff, an unbelievable view, actually renovated rooms, etc.). For the first time in MY LIFE I was kicked out of a Hotel, my family was visiting Alaska for the…read morefirst time, from Colombia, they don't speak English well, we arrived at the hotel 2 hours before check-in just to see the location, we asked in the main lobby if we could go to our room and a girl who worked there even guided us to our room, we went in and 15 mins later this lady who said she was the owner showed up in the room without even knocking the door, I was checking the temperature when she opened the door and started yelling at me that we could not touch anything and that my reservation was at 3 o'clock, she told us that if we damaged anything she was sure we would not be able to pay, she told us to leave and that she did not want to have "people like us" in her establishment.All my life traveling around the world and the first time I have been kicked out of a place is where I live, Alaska, I wouldn't have said anything if the problem hadn't felt personal.
