I must be pretty lucky because I have came here about 5 times, but have never had to wait! And I have been on a Monday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday... from opening to happy hour to close to closing time and each time have been seated right away. I will admit that their soft opening was a little rough... (we did not appreciate that they were dine-in only/no-take out in the beginning, however now they do have take-out). I will write this based mostly on my latest visits. This location is a moderately sized establishment that greets you with a sizable bar. The right side and back of the restaurant is filled with tables for all sizes of parties (behind the bar, taking up most of the space is the kitchen). One thing I don't particularly like is their wood chairs-- not comfortable! However their food makes up for it! Our usual orders are the following: Small combo (4 wings/4 drumsticks + pickled radish) and we always do half soy garlic, half spicy. Jap chae (no meat for me). The seasoned (furikake) fries, EXTRA side of pickled radish, side of kimchee, and recently discovered the avocado salmon bomb (so so good). After eating here over the weekend I told some of my coworkers how good it was. Then they said lets go there for lunch Friday, so we did. All three of us did the combo plates. I came here for brunch with a friend and we arrived right when they opened on a Sunday so we were seated right away. We ordered the Combination medium size wings, soy garlic. Honestly, they were probably some of the best wings I've ever had! They're really big and the seasoning was really good and crispy. We also ordered the Salmon avocado ball and the bulgogi fried rice. They are a bit on the pricey side, however everything was really good. They don't take reservations, so the wait can be a bit long. What an absolute awful excuse for service. Two buddies and I came here on Thursday 2/7/19. We were seated quickly and then waited for about ten minutes for a server to greet us. The server immediately just said "are you ready to order", we were not but ordered drinks (which took another ten minutes). At this time we told him we would all need separate checks. We ordered food once the drinks arrived, I ordered the dumpling and pork buns, my buddy ordered the chicken katsu and my other friend ordered octopus and a medium combo plate or chicken (which is a ton of chicken). My buddy got his katsu, mind you all of our food came out separately - at 5 different times and given to us by a food runner instead of the server and they didn't even initially make the octopus. The katsu was good according to my buddy, we all enjoyed the dumplings, the chicken combo was absolutely amazing and the octopus was inedible (when it finally arrived). We waited for about another 15 minutes after we were done eating for our server to actually mosey on over to our table again. We asked for our checks, he gave us separate checks but all of the food was mixed up. So we told him the changes that needed to be made and he then brought us new checks, these checks were also royally screwed up so we just told him we'd handle it amongst ourselves. It's sad that the food, minus the octopus, is probably 4 stars here but this service was negative a million stars. I can't justify giving a 1 star review to a place with good food but know that this 2 star review is a warning to any of y'all... if you want service to be good and not have to sit in this restaurant for 90 minutes then go somewhere else. I love fried chicken! My favorite food is fried chicken so I'll never get tired of eating it. I've been to this place twice and I tell ya this place gets pretty busy and packed quick. I usually go around 4 or 5 pm on weekday or weekend. It doesn't matter. It's still busy. If you go around 7 pm or later good luck. You'll have to wait.. I wouldn't suggest to go an hour before they close because they're kitchen closes early. They won't serve you any food an hour before they close. I made that mistake before. Any other restaurant would still take you, take your order, or even take food for take out. Unfortunately, not this one, which is a bummer. Okay lets start with food. I like their soy garlic and spicy fried chicken. Soy garlic is good it has that sweet garlicky taste if you're into that. I prefer the spicy one better though. I usually do the half and half. I've been a bonchon franchise before in another state. Wasn't all that impressed with the brand but wanted to give it a try when I heard they opened up. Overall the hype on this place is ridiculous. The first month of opening was 1 to 2 hours wait during prime time. I went right at 5 and still had to wait a good 20 minutes. Ordered the mixed wings, bao, and buldak. The breading on the wings were excessive - didn't do the chicken justice. The taste is there, but was hoping to eat more meat than carbs. Bao was mediocre - nothing special. The buns were cold - not how it should be. The buldak was the only decent dish ordered. There was a kick to it. Only downside was the lack of rice cake and fish cake. Second time I went, ordered the salmon avocado ball and boy was that a disaster. It was like the dish couldn't decide if it wanted to be hot or cold. Each dish took about 20 minutes to arrive at the table. Averaging 1.5 hour ordeal. So plan accordingly. The workers provided good service other than the speed so no complaints there. read more

I've heard about this place from a couple of friends and decided to try it out. Upon walking in, we were greeted and sat almost immediately. The shop was cute, clean and bright! We ordered bulgogi fried rice, pork buns, seafood fried rice, popcorn shrimp, Korean fried chicken, and seasoned fries. I absolutely loved the pork buns. Other than that, the food was mediocre and pricy, especially for the amount you get. The fried rice was decent, and the Korean fried chicken was decent sized and quite spicy! I was disappointed in the seasoned fries and popcorn shrimp. The popcorn shrimp barely had any shrimp in it and seemed like it came from the box (frozen) while the 'seasoned' fries tasted plain and weren't worth the $7. Went here for a quick bite by myself 2 months after opening and it was still packed, with the line going out the door. The wait time for a table was about 30 minutes, but since I went alone I had less than 3 minutes wait time, as I was promptly seated. Parking: Free parking is available in the plaza. Atmosphere: The restaurant is super casual and gives off a slight sports bar vibe, as they have multiple televisions set up inside. The actual bar area is very small (about 6-8 seats available). They offer beer on tap, but also sell soju (of course they do, it's a Korean restaurant) Service: I had excellent service from my server (Dominic), who gave me recommendations on what is popular at this establishment, which is a KFC (no not colonel sanders' Kentucky Fried Chicken. Korean Fried Chicken) half spicy and half soy garlic small combo (6 wings+3 drumsticks). If you're not used to spicy foods, you might not want to get the spicy, but if you're used to eating kimchi or the spicy korean noodles you'll be fine. Taste: After the fresh and hot chicken came out of the kitchen, I was surprised by the size of the chicken, they were massive compared to other wing establishments that I've been to in the past. I took my first bite and it was AMAZING! The skin being one of the most essential factors in fried chicken was done perfectly (not too crispy not too soft). All of the signature fried chicken dishes come with a side of either pickled radish (those white cubes, that I thought was an Asian pear) or coleslaw. After halfway through the plate, my palate was getting bored. To change up the flavor, you would probably want to order an additional side (even though 9 pieces is a lot of food, make sure you go hungry). Pricing: The cost of the small combo is about $13 pre-tax and tip. Although this seems pricey, most Korean fried chicken places around this price range. Most items on the menu will cost you at least $10, with side dishes like a bowl of rice costing you $2. Bonchon has answered our prayers and really brought their A-game with these Korean Fried Chicken wings! Located right in South Tempe on Elliot Rd and Roosevelt is Bonchon, a chain from the East coast bringing Korean classics to the valley. Lots of wood and stone adorn the inside of the restaurant along with tables showing off a scorched logo right in the corner. The menu is pretty large and offers such dishes as Korean Fried Chicken, Takoyaki, Bibimbap, udon and a lot more. This weekend is their soft opening weekend so they were still getting the hang of things but luckily they were pretty quick, even for the end of the night. I ordered the Korean Fried Chicken wings with the soy garlic glaze. They also offer spicy which you can order your wings half and half. Comes with a side of Coleslaw or pickled radishes. My husband ordered the Tteokeokki which is a lightly spicy dish adorned with fish cakes. Sadly they were out of takoyaki but can't wait to try it next time. The wait wasn't long for the food thankfully. The chicken was the best Korean Fried Chicken I have had in Arizona. The chicken was crispy and perfectly battered and didn't have a soggy feel even with the light sauce glaze over it. The quality of the chicken wings was absolutely phenomenal! Perfectly juicy and cooked to perfection. It was lightly greasy but that is to be expected with wings. I ordered the 10 count but it was a lot for one so I took it to go. I usually also try to gauge how fresh the chicken is, in this case I can say it is fresher than most chicken wing/ thigh places (but not the freshest). Also the chicken thigh and wings turned out to be oilier than other Korean fried chicken places which is tasty to begin with but goes downhill after a few pieces. There was a gentleman in Bonchon uniform that seemed to be the manager. A few of the staff were asking him for work directions. If the gentleman is the manager or who is in charge of the shift, he should learn to acknowledge the customers. A kind "hello with a smile" goes a long way specially for a restaurant in a soft opening mode. And please management should have their employees refrain from sweeping the floor around customer tables and areas when customers are currently dining.
