Eggroll Xpress has one of the most creative menus I've ever encountered. The staples like their traditional egg rolls and fried rice are great, but it's the wild adaptations of everything from birria tacos to fish and chips into egg roll form that keep me coming back. I try something new every visit (made easy by their staff recommendations and rotating weekly specials) and it's been delicious and surprising every time. And it's not just egg rolls, despite the name - the island jerk fries and wonton tacos deserve a shout-out as well. The theme and decor are also fun and match the menu concept perfectly. Checked in and ready for the flight! What a fun concept for a restaurant...just like you are at the airport and sampling foods from different locations. They do a weekly destination menu on top of their regular menu items. Met Lisa and her brother, David, and mom, Judy, who was there working with them. The location is in the old Curry and Scoop space at McClintock and Elliot, close to the Pollack Theatre. Wife asked for the Jet Fuel Punch, with no Sprite but half punch with lemonade to drink and I went with the Island Breeze (think Pina Colada!)...both were freshly made! The Island Breeze had chunks of pineapple and coconut shaves and such a great addition. Lisa helped us navigate through the ordering menus and we landed on the Express Box, which gives you 3 signature stops, 3 core destinations, along with two of their homemade sauces. With all of the amazing choices, it took us a bit to decide on which egg rolls to order so we landed on Island Jerk, Maple Leaf Morning * (in honor of Canada week), Philly Street, Little Saigon, OG Lumpia, and the Veggie Eggroll. We also partook of the free crab angels they are currently offering for their grand opening. Wife and I shared the order, which was perfect for an afternoon snack/meal. We started with the crab angels, an order is three. They were stuffed full with a cream cheese filling, light on the crab but overall extremely wonderful! Used the sweet chili sauce for dipping. Next we tried the Canada one, which we liked...filled with scrambled eggs, sausage and real maple syrup for dipping. It was different but actually good. Moved on to the try the Island Jerk, which we both fell in love with. Yes, with a bit of smokey spice, I cooled it down a bit with their peanut sauce (which is thick and so tasty!) Next was the OG Lumpia, which was what I was craving. Made with ground pork and shrimp (you will have no idea shrimp is in there!) and veggies. Again, tried it in both sauces and either one was a great match for the crispy, juicy filling. Philly Street came next, which is made with steak, onions, peppers, and cheese and guess what? It's like a Philly Cheesesteak but in an eggroll wrapper. It was so good! We ended with the Veggie Eggroll, which we agreed was one of the best of all of them. Again, both sauces we chose were perfect for dipping. Every single roll we had were fresh, flavorful and packed full and fried to perfection. They have definitely mastered the egg roll and Lisa is open to menu suggestions she said. Their weekly specials (Limited Landings) are so unique and honor their namesake...like this week's Canada one with the maple syrup. Next week's U.S.A. special will be brisket so can't wait to try that! We had seen the special on Channel 3 a few weeks ago and that's what led us to come in initially. Happy to see that fellow Yelpers are also visiting! Highly recommend this new business and hope they become a long-term staple in our neighborhood. read more

This concept is SO COOL! I absolutely love culture and have always been intrigued by the many variations of eggrolls. This place does a pretty good job at really introducing your palette to different cultures in the form of an eggroll! Some of the eggrolls can be a little complex and feel that it could be simplified in some ways because the many dips got a little overwhelming LOL The prices are so worth it though and they were very filling for $25! I would loooove to go back and get more of the Greece & Birria eggrolls!! And of course, try the dessert rolls. read more

Egg Roll Fact: The egg roll is not actually a traditional Chinese dish. It was invented in New York City in the 1930s as a fusion of Chinese and American cuisines. Egg rolls are absolutely delicious, but sadly, like most foods that taste amazing, they're not the healthiest choice to consume on a regular basis. They are usually deep-fried, so they're high in saturated fat and calories. The average egg roll contains between 200 and 250 calories and 10 to 15 grams of fat. That's for one egg roll; stopping at just one can be difficult. Not saying you shouldn't eat them; just be mindful of the fact that they are high in fat, calories, and salt. Consuming them as a treat when you enjoy your favorite Chinese takeout is usually fine in moderation. That said, when you are treating yourself to some egg rolls, this is a great spot to do it. World Tour ($25.00 - All American, El Hefe Birria, Island Jerk, Philly Street, Great Wall, Hanoi Harbor, Little Saigon, OG Lumpia with Nuoc Mam Fish Sauce and Sriracha Mayo): The World Tour is the way to go to try a little bit of everything. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite but I will say, the Island Jerk is not my favorite but that's probably a me thing. It was just a little too strong. That said, their menu is big enough that I can just get something else instead. It's an adventure! One box fed the two of us for THREE meals! Three! Light Layover Combo ($7.00 for two - Shrimp & Pork and Spring Roll and a Tofu Spring Roll with Peanut Hoisin: Excellent spring rolls but watery peanut hoisin. That said, I would absolutely order this again. Spring rolls are amongst my favorite foods ever. Lemon Layover Tea ($3.49 - Medium): An excellent tea. It reminds me of Hong Kong style lemon tea. This is probably going to be my go-to beverage. Saigon Iced Coffee ($5.99 - Medium): Not bad. Not as strong as I prefer my Vietnamese coffee. I'd pass on it if you want that strong robust Vietnamese coffee. Spent a little under $45 before tax for two of us. The owners are super friendly and are truly passionate about what they're doing. It was bite after bite of flavor and crunch. They even make their own sauces. There's a new weekly special so come back often! The week I went, Mexico was the special so good luck getting the El Hefe Birria. It was great. read more

It seems to be a family owned spot, and they were truly very welcoming and nice Some of our favorites were surprisingly the more creative fusions rolls such as the American (Cheesey-burger), Little Italy (YUMMM, tasted like a pizza stuffed mozzarella stick but that light crispy egg roll wrap), with Jerk Chicken and Philly cheesesteak coming close contenders. What a fun and tasty addition to the neighborhood! I was greeted with a friendly "Welcome aboard the Eggroll Xpress" and a big smile from Kai at the front as soon as I walked in the door. The whole theme is about travel, and they really nailed it - from overall decor and travel-related items at the little shop to picking up your food at the Baggage Claim. Very cute and fun! Kai helped me navigate the menu, which includes both traditional rolls like lumpia and fusion types like Philly and cheeseburger. Had 3 signature rolls (Philly - Great, Tokyo (Flavor of the week - Ramen in an egg roll) - also great, and Island (Jerk Chicken) - not good/very strange flavor w/no hint of "jerk" flavoring). Very reasonable prices, lots of variety, authentic Asian cooks, creative flavors, friendly staff. Wish they had some additional sauces. They forgot my ranch but that happens. Hope this place makes it. It's definitely worth a return trip. Will try garlic fries and spring rolls next time. Be sure to check their website for their rotating flavor (new one each week). I will start with the food was great, I got the express which came with so much food but the stand outs were the eggrolls, I got the Philly cheese steak, the hamburger, and the bulgogi. All three and the others were great, but the stand out was the service. This is definitely a mom and pop shop, I think it was the owner that served me, he went through their menu and gave great recommendations. Everyone there was so nice. She needs to be gluten free and while the options here are limited, they take care in preparing it separately to prevent cross contamination.
