Pork belly in the bar buns was a single chunk of tough meat. Not the juicy fatty soft meat it should be. The bar buns otherwise were tasty with plenty of sauce and some crunchy cabbage. The drumsticks were absolutely ginormous. They took 45 min to come out but were perfectly crispy outside and very well sauced. The side of radish was literally plain radish cubes with no seasoning- gross. The cole slaw was unremarkable. The bulgogi was Westernized shaved beef with seasoning. Not legit bulgogi but close enough to not be teriyaki beef either. The buldak was very spicy and had an interesting flavor. Kind of muted- not bad just not my cup of tea. I made the almost two hour trip from the Pittsburgh area to come eat. I wrongfully assumed this was more of a fast food takeout style, so I ordered my food ahead. Umm... I'm sorry to say this, but this will probably be my first and last time visiting this location. I'm originally from Maryland and have tried Bonchon at several different spots, but this was by far one of my worst experiences. We ordered take out for the 30-piece wings in soy garlic, spicy, and yangnyeom flavors. As you can see from the picture, where's the meat? It was honestly one of the driest chicken wings I've ever had. As for the new yangnyeom flavor, this just wasn't it. Instead of tasting like a gochujang based sauce that I am familiar with, it tasted more like Thai sweet chili sauce. I know in fact, that is not korean yangnyeom chicken. Very disappointing. We also ordered pickled radish for the side, and it was not edible. No sweetness, no tanginess, no refreshing crisp and crunch, just bland, vinegary and soggy. Pickled radish should be one of the highlights, adding that sweet, tangy, refreshing bite to balance out the greasiness of fried chicken. That's not how it is supposed to taste. Overall, this didn't taste like authentic Korean fried chicken to me. We also ordered buldak chicken over rice and it tasted nothing like buldak sauce. Unless it literally means "spicy chicken". The only thing I liked about it was probably the chewiness of the rice cake. If you're looking for a better option, I'd recommend Mad for Chicken in Niles, OH. Wanted to like this place. Was very excited to come and wanted to try a sampling of items. Tried to order the bao buns which are 3 and the same price for pork belly and fried chicken. I asked the waitress if I could have a mixture of pork belly and fried chicken which she informed me absolutely not because the owner will not allow it. I asked her to please ask him and she said she has asked him before and he has always turned it down. He doesn't like to mix which is crazy. They are the same price and an unwillingness to give a customer a chance to customize just because you don't want to is foolish and proves you are not interested in what your customers want. That waitress refusing to go ask because she has already been told no tells me she doesn't want to do her job and he is task master and difficult to work with. I just ordered a side since I was with a group and could not leave. So instead of a customer who wanted to try a bunch of stuff and would have come back, you know have a disastifed customer who not only won't be back but will share this experience and tell others. Wings are still very small and now they are poorly packaged. The Bonchon brand has been my favorite when it comes to wings for years now. Unfortunately, they are no longer in my local area. So whenever I am near one I make a point to go and get some of that soy garlic goodness. I was in the area for a comedy show and decided I would order some to-go. There is a room for improvement. I have been eating Korean food and Korean style fried chicken for more than a decade. Absolutely love this place! My boyfriend and I frequently go here for date nights. He always gets the chicken katsu, which in our opinion is far superior than any chicken katsu we've tried at other restaurants. This paired with the coleslaw has us coming back again and again. I like to try something new every time I go, their fried rice is pretty good. However when I had it last the rice was a little over cooked, great taste though. Pretty classic Korean fried chicken option in the Cleveland area. They offer soy garlic and spicy style flavors (unfortunately, no sweet chili when I went!) and different iteration combinations of wings, drumsticks, and boneless options. The spicy flavor is probably on the hotter side for the average spice palate, but the pickled radish on the side definitely takes some of the edge off. In terms of portion sizes, I think the wings have slowly been getting smaller and smaller over the years, but the drumsticks have consistently stayed pretty large so I recommend those if you don't have a strong preference. In case you want something besides their signature chicken, their Korean tacos and pork buns are also great (but also on the smaller side). Service is consistently great and the food comes out relatively quickly. There's also a lot of seating areas available, both indoor and outdoors. read more

I wish I could give Bonchon 5-stars...I really do. We decided to go to Bonchon with friends to celebrate a birthday. We were seated upon arrival, 9 people in our party. We were placed in the bar area, high tops right across from the bartender. The hostess started to take our drink order and got flustered when we asked if it was still happy hour...the answer was yes, but clearly annoyed she walked away and another server came over to finish taking our drink order. Once drinks were doled out, our server immediately walked away, even though we said we were ready to place appetizer orders. This became the theme of the evening. The server was not great, he was less than thrilled to be there and obviously even less that he was working our party. Each time he took an order it was a single order, walking away after one person, even though we kept saying everyone is ready. Not once did anyone ask how the food was, were refills needed or if we wanted anything else. Each time we requested anything it was like we were putting our server out. Once our food started coming out...in pieces/parts it was FANTASTIC! The shumai was fresh and hot, zucchini fries were seasoned well and were delicious, no complaints. I loved the udon noodle soup with a fried egg, the fried rice, the chicken legs were huge and crispy, definitely a number one seller. I just wish the service matched the food, but sadly it didn't. I can understand slow service if the restaurant was busy, but it wasn't. It was clear that Bonchon was understaffed but rude service is never the way to go. I'm so glad something like this exists in Cleveland! I came here for the first time yesterday on a date and we both liked it a lot. The Good: -chicken was the correct amount of crunchy! -sauces were pretty good -servers were very nice -decor was modern and craft burger/bar-esque -menu selection was dope. There were so many things I wanted to try -drumstick size was satisfyingly large -coleslaw was really good The Meh: -wing size was way too small. They were flavorful but tiny -drumstick size was good but skewed on the drier side -the seasoned fries did not look the mouth-watering picture...they were dry, not double-fried and so expensive for basic fries sprinkled with some parmesan granules on top... -does there need to be like multiple flatscreens with the same sports game on surrounding the entire restaurant? I have a feeling that the demographic that comes here isn't quite like Bdub's...save some $$ on the TVs and electricity and put it back into the food to reduce prices -did not need an entire full bar. For a Korean and Japanese fast casual chain, there is not ONE Asian drink available! No Ramune or boba or milk tea in sight! -no chopsticks! I overheard another couple ask for them. Reusable chopsticks should be served by default -some underwhelming takoyaki. Not sure about this name because it's more of a salty/citrusy taste than anything; if you've ever had Viet-style fish sauce marinated wings, this tastes like a more muted version of those. Decent addition but the soy garlic and spicy are still my favorite. You can get your fried chicken in wings, drums or strips - wings and strips come in S, M and L (10, 20, and 30 pcs). I hesitate to write this review, as we had an AWFUL experience at this bonchon over a year ago, and ended up being harassed to take the review down by a family member of the server. We decided to try this place out again, and quite frankly we're rather disappointed again. However, the service was fantastic this time and we had an overall good experience. The issue came down to the size of the wings. We have been to other bonchons before and the size of these wings is considerably smaller than the ones we have gotten before. The kimchi fried rice that we ordered (not pictured) was mediocre at best as well. In terms of the flavor though, they kept the soy garlic amazing and you simply cannot replicate that amazing umami. On my way up to upstate New York, had a chance to stop by for some chicken wings, but best part was meeting up with an old friend, who'm I haven't seen in years. One of the members in the group was allergic to seafood, so we asked the first person if they fried seafood and chicken in the same oil and sadly, she didn't know and she said, she would ask someone... yeah, nobody every came nor did she come back. After about 10 minutes, the waiter came to take our orders. I asked him if they use the same oil for seafood and chicken and at first he said no... and I probed further... I asked, so you don't fry the calamari in the same oil as the wings? The guy then finally said, yes they do... and the worst part was... he has to think about it for few minutes and only did he realize it after I asked further questions. So we got some wings for others, bulgogi, and jobchae, the food was good and we enjoyed it very well. We asked for more radish to one worker, then they never brought it, then the same waiter that took our order, we asked for more radish, he acknowledge it and never brought out the additional radish. I didn't pay the bill, so I'm not sure if they charged us for the extra radish that was never brought to us.... so I'm downgrading their star to 1 star and here is why. 1. All their staff members should be educated on food allergies, there's no excuse especially when someone might end up in ER! If you don't know, then get someone who does, don't tell us, you'll ask and ignore us. 2. Service was beyond poor during our visit. I think he came 4 times, first time is when he took our order, then came by asking how our food was after once our food was delivered and then I had to flag him down to ask for more radish, but he never brought it and final time is when be brought the bill and cashed us out. 3. When your team members acknowledge what you ask for, make sure you follow-through, that's the basic's of customer service in the restaurant industry.
