My husband got takeout order from this place for the first time and brought us for dinner, and not very happy with it because who ever prepared the food didn't season the chicken when the Principal of the preparing food is seasoning the meat. PROS: The chicken drumsticks were good, and everything else was decent tasting. Nothing over the top, but overall thumbs up on taste. CONS: Our bill auto included a 15% tip. I understand larger groups having tips auto included, but we were only a family of 4. I guess it's a good thing it was 15% and not 18% or 20%, and they added it to the pre-tax bill, but still a bit off-putting to see gratuity for such a small group auto included. Was this explicitly stated on their menu? MISC: The first dish and our last dish arrived 10+ minutes apart. Not a good experience when trying to enjoy a meal. Secondly, when I tried to pay the bill, the previous customer was waiting for the staff to figure out how to process his payment, and was on the phone with tech support somewhere off site to try and figure it out. It was dragging on so long, I told the staff I'd come back to pay the bill after I got dessert a few doors away, as I couldnt continue to stand waiting for who knows how long. Last time I had bonchon was over 10 years ago in the east coast. That's when I was first introduced to this phenomenon and when I ran into it today, I dropped all of my plans and placed an order. I did the lunch special combo (wings and drumsticks) with the half/half flavors. I should warn you all that I am a weenie when it comes to spice, and I should've known better than to ask the KOREAN cashier if their wings were really spicy, in which she replied, "No, it's not that spicy". Nice version? She lied. What happened? I yelled "That Lying bitch!" after my first bite of the spicy wings. I'm not docking her any stars for that though, that's my old idiocy for believing her. x) But the reason why I HAD to order this was exactly as I remembered it, it has so much flavor, YET it still manages to have the crispiest skin on their chicken. I told my husband, I'm going to make him pick this up for me now because he works out in Livermore and I live in Antioch. Will it get soggy? Who cares, that's a risk I'm willing to take if I can munch on this yumminess. I will say the prices are a bit on the high end, so that's why I docked it a star because I don't particularly think you're getting your money's worth for the food you get. However, it definitely warrants a visit and if you're looking to treat yourself for a cheat day, this is what I would choose. I ordered this at 6:52pm and it said it would take 50 minutes. I was getting updates and it kept getting longer and longer. We didn't get our food until 8:10 pm!!! And I had ordered just 2 sides of the bulgogi at 3.50 a piece and I got about 7 small tiny pieces of meat. After all that waiting that's what I got. I think I'll go all the way to the San Leandro Bonchon. They treat their customers well as far as portions. I ordered through their website for CURBSIDE PICKUP. which was a FAIL. I was already there 10 minutes before the pickup time, followed email instructions. NO ONE CAME OUT TO BRING ME MY ORDER. After 20 minutes of waiting, finally went in and my order was just right there at the counter, so I picked it up myself. There were other customers waiting outside too, and looks like they were also there for curbside pickup which this store does not fulfill successfully. The chicken wings were good, pieces were big and the skin was still crispy when I got home an hour after pickup. I wish there' s more sauce though, the flavor's there but still needed some more glaze. Second time ordering the family meal - on an online order, they send you a text to confirm your order and text when it is ready. A pretty good ordering system. Picked up our order and took it home - yes the chicken stayed crispy! Fries are really tasty - not overly salty. Cole slaw was pretty good, but I might stick with the pickled radishes. The chicken isn't all that great. The breading on the outside is delicious, but the chicken itself is not marinated at all.. EXTREMELY BLAND. I heard that it tastes better at different locations and is actually flavorful from the breading to the chicken. The customer service is so slow as well.. they don't have a very food system going. Ordered 20 piece wings and takoyaki to go from their website. As i picked up my order, I realized they forgot to include the takoyaki in my bag. I complained and they fixed it. Later on when I got home, i realized the order only had 10 wings instead of 20. At this point, I was very frustrated since they messed up my order for the second time within the same order. At this point, i was already home and it was too far to go back to the restaurant. The manager called me back later and apologized and offered to give me a refund for $15.95 which is the price for 10 wings. I accepted and the next day realized they only refunded me $15.95 instead of $15.95 + tax. If i paid for tax when i ordered the food, they should refund me the tax as well for the $15.95. So I complained and the manager sent me an additional refund for the tax but not until the following day. Why does it take so much effort for the customer to receive their partial refund for an order the restaurant messed up on? The wings were good but a bit on the pricy side. Finally open! Very clean and cozy location... delicious food and quality just like the other locations. My go to order are the wings (soy garlic and spicy) and the coleslaw. Perfect to take to go and eat at home with unlimited rice :) The spicy is legit, definitely has a kick so be sure to order accordingly. They do not offer different levels of spice so make sure you're ready for that heat before ordering. The soy garlic is sweet and savory and a perfect balance with the spicy wings. As a Filipino that eats rice every day I can tell this has been sitting out for a while no matter what type or brand of rice it is. The texture was dry when you don't cover it for a few hours. We were charge for every single thing. You want extra sauce, thats $1. Do you want to go box , thats .25 cents each and you have to cash. I dont know why they cant add it to our bill. You may want to double check you bill too, since we were charged $50 than our cost. We did get it reversed but it took forever. Small order came with 5 drumsticks I killed three and my daughter two! And I don't even eat that much meat. So BOMB! Crispy, Savory, Juicy sweet wth a hint of spice. This location still needs a lot of work. It's subpar compared to other Bonchon. Their fried chicken needs extra glaze of sauce because you can't taste the flavor. The owner came over to see how things are going and I gave her the comment. Instead of accepting the comment or offering sauce on the side, she instead said that's how it is at Bonchon. First time to try Bonchon chicken but it was a disappointment. I am expecting better since this brand has a lot of stores in U.S. I ordered a combo with both sauces. The wings are way overcooked and dry. The drums are okay and the skins are crispy. However, the major problem is the lack of flavors. There are barely soy garlic/spicy flavor on the chickens. Based on my experience today, this place desperately needs a quality control top down review from the franchise because if all other Bonchons were run this way I can't imagine it'd be successful. Things that I found to be odd: * there's no clear flow in terms of whether you're supposed to order first, or sit down first, the employees were behind their plexiglass behind the bar and not really greeting people coming in * don't tell me my order is going to take 45 minutes after I've placed an order and I'm already in the process of paying for it * they were refilling the drinking water reservoirs by removing the filter portion of the tank and filling the reservoir straight from the tap. This tap might be filtered but it was weird because they were skipping the filtering portion of the tank * only like 1-2 employees seem to know what's actually going on; our food was on the counter for a good 10+ minutes but only one employee actually checked it and called it out (the other one was just sitting behind the counter waiting around) * the food was BLAND. Like if I'm going to wait 45 minutes for lukewarm food and pay 30% more than my local takeout spot, the food better taste bomb. Panda Express makes a better fried rice. The chicken wings had good texture but it's like they don't use salt at all on the meat or batter, and only the sauce imparted some flavor. If the food was 40% cheaper I could deal with the quality and service at this level, but at these prices get your crap together.
