Ever since I've moved to the bay area I have encountered dozens of people saying "you have to try this place " . After being reluctant I finally gave in . This was definitely one of the best decision of my life. THE SERVICE: One of the best in the buisness , as soon as we walked in we were asked if we were in house or takeout . Once we were seated our server brought us two glasses of water before we even had to ask ! When we ordered she gave us her opinion and we took it !!!! Best combo out there 1/2 sweet crunch and 1/2 soy garlic . We ordered the medium combo which comes with 5 legs and 10 wings. Once our food arrived the server placed our plates and forks directly in front of us and went above and beyond to insure that we were well taken care of. 5 star service if you ask me. Now to my favorite part !!! THE FOOD: holy moly guacamole the chicken here is literally to die for . From the sauces to the perfection of an evenly crunch in every bite. Although the sweet crunch is good, I and thousand others (that's why this is the most popular) believe that the soy garlic fried chicken is unbelievable and uncontested. Oh ,and if you feel like this isnt enough for two people , it is the wings are huge . The last time I had Bonchon's fried chicken was in Oakland after Drake's First Friday. That chicken turned my eating experience upside down. Yesterday, I remembered that they were opening one in Pleasanton and my head nearly exploded! I also just got done running and was too lazy to pick it up (tisk tisk, I know....). Luckily for me, Doordash had a promo for free delivery for Bonchon! I ordered a medium combo (half soy garlic and half spicy wings and drumsticks). IT WAS AMAZING! Updated review: Due to COVID we have been ordering take out from Bonchon almost once every week but our last two orders seems off.. the size of the chicken wings had shrunk so much! It's such a pity because we love this place because of their big juicy wings! We thought it was only one time but today same thing happened.. they must have issues with their chicken wings supply but if you are changing it to smaller size wings, at least you should give more like 12 instead of 10?! That's just being fair to your customers.. not to mentioned that the price went up recently to which we can understand but with increasing price and deceasing portion... doesn't seems right. The service here is NOT good and they will pressure you to order more if they see / deem that what you order is not "enough". All of a sudden they will tell you they have a supposed "policy" (which by the way has NO signage or notices posted, as is legally required nor do they verbally inform BEFORE you sit down and order) that each person must order something. We were already going to order a Medium Combo of the Chicken - Wings and Drumsticks, Half and Half flavor, Seasoned Fries, Onion Rings, and Coleslaw and we were three people. Good food if you are willing to wait a very long time. Takeout is a regular disaster here. Tonight it took 2 hours to get my food. The first hour and a quarter were expected. I had to wait an additional 45 min after the target time. While I waited for my overdue order I watch groups who had come in, ordered, and received their orders. Maybe they gave my food away? Maybe they waited 90 mins to start cooking my order? I guess I should have dined in, ordered my food and then put it all in a big doggie bag. The boneless wings stopped being wings and are now small chicken nuggets. I think I got my full order...or maybe I got the scraps at the bottom of the bag. No apologies. No attempt to make up this super long wait. The only upside was that my food was hot. I wish I could say this was an isolated incident, but just going to the other Korean restaurants is faster, better, and cheaper. We won't be back. read more

Ordered my food at 6:12. Got there by 6:29. My app on my phone showed my food was ready at 6:30. I showed the lady at the counter my phone order status. She read my name on my phone then looked at the 3 orders on the counter as she headed to the kitchen. She waved to me and said, "It's not ready... We're busy.." 2 customers came after me and picked up their food. About 10 min go by so I have a drink while I'm waiting. Then she checks the counter orders again and asks if one of them was mine. The order doesn't show my full name but shows the description on the receipt taped to the bag similar to how it shows on my phone. The time is now 6:49. It turns out the app was correct and my food sat on the back counter the entire time I was there. I gave her a confused look but she rushed to another patron. No acknowledgment or apology for the mistake. I wasn't going to write a review, but the way she handled it afterwards made me think otherwise. The food is always good here. But the customer service needs some work. Taking a few moments to check specific details on a "to go" order so a customer is not waiting longer than they should goes a long way. read more

We waited over a year for this place. Last time we had Bonchon was in Sunnyvale. Just found out it has been open for a month. What the fork?? I was super excited that it was open. We ordered Drumsticks (soy garlic sauce), Fried Chicken Strips (spicy), Takoyaki, Jaap Chae, and Chicken Fried Rice.... All very tasty! The dining room was very loud and lively, but the waitstaff was attentive and very pleasant considering how busy the restaurant was. Our waitperson asked if this was our first time dining with them (yes), then she proceeded in explaining the menu to us! How great is that! I frequent this retail center a lot and have noticed the sign up for this place for quite a while, this last time I was around they were open! Decided to have dinner here on a Friday night, we walked into a small but modern space with my fave color scheme grey tones with pops of wood throughout. We were greeted promptly and put on a waitlist. About 5-10 minutes into our wait we were asked if bar seating would be ok, we were totally fine with that as I prefer high top seating, better view from up here ;) heh.. We ordered: Wings, half soy garlic and half sweet crunch- I didn't have any but they were huge, crispy and flavors were spot on. All I heard was lip smacking, looked over and there was a pile of bones lol. Tofu bibimbap- I really enjoyed this, had my tofu fried instead of steamed this time. Comes with rice, quinoa and fresh veggies. The packets of sauce come on the side so you can customize how much sauce you want in your bowl. Seafood fried rice- yum! Really fresh and flavorful, enjoyed this as well. While sitting at the bar we met 2 employees Jin and Jia, they made our first experience there so welcoming, we felt right at home. I love spicy food and she gave me bonchon secret sauce to try with my bibimbap, it was delish! She also gave me 2 spicy wings to try on the house, I'm not much of a meat eater and def not a wings person but these were crispy and spicy, I would actually order them. We had a little companion with us the day we went and she gave her a free can of her drink of choice. The little gestures were so appreciated and we had a great time talking with them. They were busy, it was a Friday evening after all. They also close early 8pm but they seated customers up until closing. I did see pick up orders took a while and witnessed a few errors, it happens.. They have excellent customer service and corrected all the wrongs. It does state on the menus that orders are made to order and can take 30 minutes so don't come here starving, expect to wait. I see a lot of haters on here, so I'll wanted to write a review to compensate for some of the overreactions. Five star fried chicken. Before I had Bonchon, I always thought fried chicken was kind of 'meh', and I have had it multiple times in the US and in Korea. My father doesn't even like fried chicken, but he loves Bonchon. I love all the flavors and all the sauces. Normally I have to complain that food isn't as spicy as advertised, but not at Bonchon! If you're a chili-head, this is the place for you. My partner always orders the Tteokbokki, and she says its top notch. She says it's not really authentic but manages to taste better with better texture than most places that do it in what they claim is the authentic way. Granted, we always do take out and always order the same thing, but we've become regulars. Having spent a significant amount of time in Korea, this might not be the place if you're looking for authentic home-style Korean meals cooked to perfection. At other locations, I've sampeld some of the other items. They're good, but it is fast food after all, and they're speciality is the chicken! Order the fried chicken. I've been to two other locations and neither were as bad. We ordered 10 piece chicken wings of both flavors and they were bland and overcooked. We also got chicken katsu that was also overbreaded and overcooked. ( I rarely throw away food but we just threw half of it out) Unsure if it was just an off day or if this is normal at this location but I would not recommend to anyone. read more

I've only had Bonchon once before this several years ago I Santa Clara. We've finally had a chance to order it and my son said why haven't we gotten this sooner! Not sure about size, but we got party wing and drum size and large sized drumsticks. With Korean food, it's hard because my son is also allergic to sesame but they said they didn't use it in the chicken we ordered. It was tasty and crunchy! The family size was enough for my family of 5 (with young picky children). There was definite heat with the spicy and the soy garlic was the family fave. We had fries, pickled radish, and coleslaw and they were all good The walk in order up quite time was definitely faster than order ahead. They said 20 minutes and they were ready in about 10. I'm not one to get mad easily, and while I understand that they're just setting up their new system for online orders and whatever, I'm truly disappointed. I ordered at 5:00, and my order was due at 5:50. Okay? 5:50. I arrived at around 6:00 and they informed me that something went wrong with the system and I have to wait for TWENTY more minutes. And so I did, without much complaint. It might be because I hadn't complained that they didn't think of me as a relatively important customer to prioritize over. Nonetheless, I went back twenty minutes later only to be told that I'll have to wait for ANOTHER ten minutes. All while I'm SEEING orders being fulfilled at the side and given to other customers. I've asked for them to hurry up at the back around twice, because I was frankly, upset to say the least. I've only received my order at 6:30. Forty minutes after my order was due and adding the fifty minutes they had to prepare my order, my dinner took an hour and thirty minutes to be in my hands. Yes. AN HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES. Just for a dinner that I ordered ONLINE at 5:00. While I get that things be different during quarantine, I was repeatedly given brief sorrys without much heart behind it and just excuses after another that they're packing it and packing it. (I'm sure that packing it doesn't freaking take ten minutes okay.) And it's more like packing other's orders and not packing mine even though I ordered first. Also, it's not even like I only ordered less, I ordered three main dishes and a box of 24pc chicken. And even after waiting for forty minutes I thought I would maybe get like a little side dish as an apology but nope. Or like at least some more lines after giving the food to me, like I could use a, "sorry that this took so long, We're going to be fixing our system so that this won't happen again. I'm sorry that your order took this long and I hope you'd give us a chance..." etc Not just, "here's your order" and and after I waited for an extra minute thinking that I would get some more lines and also thinking I had an extra bag, she only said, "oh that's it." You bet your ass I just f*cking swiped the bag off the counter in the most douchebag-y way and left. Though the biggest problem that I had was that even though my order was ALREADY LATE, my order wasn't prioritized at all and they only first took care of the incoming orders or phone call orders. When an order is already late, my order SHOULDVE given FIRST priority and I shouldn't be seeing other orders that I saw people placed getting made first and delivered while I had to wait in the car for thirty extra minutes as the night falls with an empty stomach. I already gave a chance for them to fulfill my order in twenty minutes but they've only pushed back their promise further and further to prepare OTHER's ORDERS. If they were sorry like they said, they should've been acting on their mistake by making my order first and providing it to me in more or less in twenty minutes. Not add another ten minutes to make it a total of forty minutes until my order was handed to me. I was disrespected and taken lightly as a customer. And they were simply irresponsible, unprofessional, and unaccountable. I didn't feel an apologetic attitude at all from them but mostly just a dismissal that my order is "being made or being packed". Does it really take forty minutes to prepare two damn bibimbaps and one bulgogi and a box of fucking chicken?? I'm just disappointed overall, the food is basic (Go to Korean village for a BIGGER amount of food for the same price and super fast give and go online order, they don't even know me but their food is pretty good) Because of this incident, I don't recommend this restaurant and I just didn't feel valued as a customer. I wouldn't go back again if I was paid to if I'm going to wait an hour and thirty minutes after I placed an online order wanting to be safe from covid. One star is gone from my food being delayed. One star is gone from me not being valued as a customer. One star is gone from them not being professional. One star is gone from the lack of heartfelt--words. I've heard of Bonchon from my relatives in Asia and I was excited when I heard this spot was opening! I only had the chance to try it recently and the food was not disappointing. It was mostly the service. It felt like the crew was not equipped to handle the surge of customers during the time that we were able to dine and they were just overwhelmed. We got seated right away but the food really took awhile. One patron couldn't wait that they left. Another group was turned away and they were already seated and their orders were taken but they said "were sorry your orders were taken in error our kitchen is closed" !! GIRL, I would've been so mad!!! If I were really hungry I would stay clear of this place at peak hours. We ordered the Bul-Dak chicken, takoyaki and the bulgogi tacos. Drinks are in cans. Now I don't know whose genius idea it was to put Korean bbq in a tortilla but omg the bulgogi tacos were really the one dish that stood out for me and that would be the one thing that will take me back here. I do appreciate Bonchon opening up a branch in the Tri-Valley area and truly hope this location survives as it's situated in a shopping center with a variety of Asian restaurants and a 99 Ranch supermarket to cater to your needs. So why the three stars? Two words: size matters. Or should I say, *suppliers* matter? The chicken wing sizes from the Pleasanton Bonchon are noticeably smaller in comparison to the San Leandro Bonchon location where I usually go. I got the small combo of wings and drums - half spicy and half soy as well as potstickers - also half spicy and half soy. The potstickers were extremely dry, to the point where it was hurting my mouth to even eat them. The chicken was nice and crunchy on the outside, however, there was little to no sauce. The spicy chicken wasn't even spicy and the soy ones tasted like regular, plain wings.
