Yay Bonchon! I live closer to the Newark location but I will be coming here from now on because they are new and have already figured out how to make the chicken wings right. The Newark location has let us down many times by under saucing their wings so I was really happy to have some perfectly fried and sauced wings here! Service is super friendly. I am always nervous to take the kiddo out to restaurants but then there are places like this that have happy people working and it surely does make it a better experience. Plastic cups with lids and a straw for the little ones? Yup! They've got 'em! Here's what we ordered: Spicy Wings and Soy Garlic Wings - I only tried one of the soy garlic and by that time my mouth was on fire from the spicy wings. Both were cooked very well. The skin was crispy, meat was juicy, and there was a perfect amount of sauce. I really prefer the little wingettes/drumettes vs. the whole wing (with wing tips) so I was a bit bummed to see they serve it whole here. Just my preference. Bulgogi Fried Rice - Yum! Baby approved! Pork Belly Baos - I liked this but it was not a hit with everyone at the table. The pork was not as soft as other places but I still enjoyed it. Lychee Soju - Tasty but I'd rather order a stronger drink next time. Kimchi Coleslaw - It was a nice break from all the chicken. Yum! Went to the MV location with my family, brother and mom on Sunday night. We typically frequent the SV location so we're excited that there's one downtown. I understand they're in their 'soft opening' phase but there are some issues unrelated to a soft opening. The biggest issue we had was that they didn't turn their air conditioner on even though it was in the 90s today (7/16)! When I asked our server about the AC, she said the owner didn't want to use it since it was so hot and that he was cheap. Um, that's exactly why you have and USE the AC! After asking to turn it on, they lowered the temperature temporarily (10 mins?). It was literally cooler outside (80s) than inside. It's not exactly a pro move to have all your patrons sweating while eating. As for the food, it is on par with the SV location - wings, strips, pot stickers, salad and seasoned fries. It should be noted that the chicken orders don't come with sides, like rice. Unlike the SV location where it's included in the price, they're charging $2 per bowl. We'll likely go back, just not on a hot day! read more

I've been a fan of Bonchon chicken and have come here for a long time (Vegas,LA, San Jose) but the visit today was absolutely horrible! We ordered wing and strips at the mountain view location... and even though we ordered the same sauce for both orders, the strips came out super dry! I figured this was a one time mistake since I've never had the strips taste this bad on precious visits. So we addressed this matter with our waitress JOY, in which I received the worst customer service and worst attitude of any waitress at any location on any visit. We explaining the taste and asked if they could add more sauce or exchange for another order, she explained that this was a corporation and they don't provide that kind of service. She then continued to explain that if we want more sauce then we need to order it like that from the beginning next time and she wouldn't be able to help. Oh yeah, she then said sorry with an attitude prior to walking away from our table ending our ask and conversation. I immediately asked for the bill, paid for our service and walked out. If I could give negative stars I would. I will never return to another Bonchon chicken because of this experience. If anything I believe there needs to be accountability applied to poor customer service. read more

The chicken strips were really crunchy, but it was a little dry. it was white meat so as expected. If you are a fan of white meat then it is for you. The pieces were all good sized and crunchy. It's weird that two locations of the same restaurant would be so different. They have different menu items (with the chicken being the constant), different procedures, and in some cases different flavors. In a way that actually makes things easier because with so many differences it makes it easier to compare the two and decide that I like the Sunnyvale location a bit more. Going to the Sunnyvale location the next day made comparisons even easier. Here's what I found; Flavor: The spiciness between the two are not even comparable. In Sunnyvale you get a spicy soy garlic that has a nice kick. In Mt.View it's more of a vinegary hotness that you see in Chinese restaurant condiments. Procedure: In Sunnyvale every order comes with a little side of radishes. Mt.View you have to pay for any and all sides Portions: I found them bigger in Sunnyvale Crispiness: Again I thought it was better in Sunnyvale Location: Here Mt.View has Sunnyvale beat. It's on a fun downtown street instead of in a slightly depressing shopping plaza with a Dollar Store Size: Mt.View is bigger and brighter, it wins this round as well. All in all, I personally like the Sunnyvale location better, but it's still some of the best damn fried chicken you're going to find so go to the Mountain View one if you're around. read more

They really need to practice how to fry chicken. The chicken strip (boneless) lost all moisture and forces you to chew so many more times. The only reason I would choose Bonchon in Mountain View would be due to its proximity. If you want quality Korean fried chicken, I would go to Vons in Sunnyvale, but too bad it's a bit far from me. read more

Okay.....Let's start with the good. My gal and I have been hearing about Bonchon for a while and wanting to try them. We were so happy to see em opening almost right across the street from one of our favorite hangouts. Ordering was super easy, the place was spotless, staff was friendly and nothing but smiles. So we made a combo order of Chicken Tenders: 3 Sweet Crunch and 3 Soy/Garlic, we also got an order of the Bulgogi Tacos to share. The Bulgogi Tacos were great! Nice flavor, made a little 'too heavy' on the added sauce going on these. The 'Tenders' were not. They were dry, size was very inconsistent (varied from about the size of a 1/2 dollar to bigger than a credit card). Flavor was impossible to identify, all 6 tasted the same....... Everything else was great, but when you're 'the chicken place' don't blow the chicken. We'll be back to try some wings, and get more tacos. This place has decent Korean style chicken wings, but I like the Bonchon in Sunnyvale better. There is parking in Sunnyvale, and it's always a hassle to get parking on Castro street. The food from Sunnyvale also seems a little better for some reason which I can't put my finger on. I never eat Bonchon in the restaurant anyway, so in the future, it's going to be Sunnyvale. I recommend the wings over the strips, and the hot and spicy over the sweet. read more

We came on a Thursday night, it was busy and only waited about 15 minutes before a table opened up. The waitress who served us was nice and attentive. Food came out quick. The only negative thing I can say about the experience is the parking in Mt View is bad. Come early, take VTA, or call Lyft and you should be fine. read more

Hey I'm going to be honest I have a bonchon within walking distance to my house & I passed that up because my friend insisted coming here...big mistake! Upon arriving we wrote our name down for the waitlist, we came around 8ish so it is crowded time. We waited for our name to be called, somehow it was called and I didn't catch it, because they pronounced my name wrong, can you blame me? They gave our table to a party right after us, appalled I went up to ask them why I came first but the people after us got seated, then I looked over to the waitlist booklet, & saw that my name was circled, confused I asked the front receptionist she said you should ask "Joy, but she's a bit scary.." I'm like thinking "You're telling me that someone who works in the costumer service industry as a server is scary shouldn't that person not being a server then?" Joy was a server, she fairly thin had short permed curly hair and seem like she was always very busy and didn't have time to deal with costumers, I asked her about our table & that our name is circled and how the party after us got seated she then brushed me off strongly bossing me saying "just right your name down again" I'm like... "are you for reals woman?" Anyways I didn't want to cause any ruckus so I wrote my name down again, be the better person right? upon being seated our table was getting cleaned & set up, I glanced over to see Joy using the broom that she swept the dirty floor that was covered in food & who know what to sweep our chairs, GROSS! She then used her fingers to sweep the food crumbs off the table, and use an overly soaked rag to wipe our table leaving it drenching wet. We got seated and I had to dry the table up with the napkins before I can place my hands on the eating table..seriously I should have left at this point but at that we waited for so long & didn't want to make my friend feel bad. We ordered 2 medium combos soy garlic & spicy, 1 regular fry, & 1 ddukbokkie. The chickens came out, tasting exactly like the bonchon next to my house (silver creek location) so I have no complaints. The fries was overly fried, can definitely tell by the almost too golden brown color & the texture of the crunch. The worse part I think was the ddukbokkie, it came with cheese on top that was not even melting. We kindly asked Joy our "very busy" server thy we would like the cheese to be melted and the ddukbokkie to be more heated, she then gave us some lame excuse saying "if you bake the food more it will become hard at the bottom" I'm thinking "woman...it's rice cake in chilly sauce it won't harden, in fact it will only get softer cause that's how rice cake works!" even after explaining to her many times she still suggested that we don't so we just decided to drop arguing with her. Truth be told we did not touch the ddukbokkie after that, we didn't even bother to. Anyways this overall experience was very below acceptable. Delicious Korean comfort food that is super satisfying and filling. We ordered the fried rice with kimchi bacon and a 10 count of wings to share. It was more than enough food for two people. The fried rice was great, with salty bacon bits. The wings were amazing - crispy on the outside with a good level of spiciness, and juicy on the inside. Wow, this is the good stuff!!! I used to be all about KFC, then Popeye but this is WAY better. I have no idea how they do it or is Bonchon Korean for opioid. All the flavors are good and the spicy leaves a nice little burning mustache around your mouth. We also got so of the cellophane noodles which were ok. Had delivery tonight and a few things didn't go well with the order. First the side order of radish was missing. Second is the boxes were not secured properly which meant that the delivery person easily could have accessed our food. Solid 3.5 stars. We had been to the Sunnyvale location before and were fairly impressed. This location seemed no different from the Sunnyvale location because of the huge line, and hipster look. The real comparison though was the chicken. I recalled from the Sunnyvale location that the drums were slightly dry, but better than the wings, and the skin was extra crispy. We got the drums, chicken katsu, and the udon. We got the garlic soy sauce on the drums because I remembered it was really good at the Sunnyvale location. The sweetness from the sauce went perfectly with the crunchy skin and the juicy chicken. Despite the drums at the Sunnyvale location being slightly dry, these drums were not dry at all! In fact, juice would burst out of the meat when you bit into it. The breading on the chicken katsu was good, but the chicken was a little overcooked. The udon was decent, but the noodles could have been cooked a little more, and the broth was a little too salty. Overall a really solid Korean fried chicken place. The only reason I wouldn't come here again is that the lines here seem to always be really long. read more

One place in View St had almost 4 stars and honestly it was one of the worst Korean restaurants I've been to across the states. So, I didn't have a good expectation for this place but it's being new, I dragged my family to this place anyway. My boys enjoyed the deep fried chicken of over 2000 calories no problem. Although if you deep fry anything, even rubbers might taste decent. So come here for deep fried foods and you will be happy. Just don't order anything else like I did like spicy rice cake and bibimbap. If you want any decent Korean restaurant, you should drive further down to Santa Clara. A friend took me to Bonchon because it has always been an gathering place for her and her sisters. The restaurant is very well decorated and we got a seat very fast. Opted for the large chicken wings all soy garlic. I would suggest the chicken wings as their drumsticks seem a little to big and with wings you can get more flavour. Food was fast and the serving size is very good. Seeing how I just came back from Korean this does not compare to the real thing. But I would say, it definitely satisfied my friend chicken craving for a wild. Much better than any standard pub wings you'll find. read more

Bonchon is pretty good fried chicken in my opinion. I came here with a friend and we got the medium combo which comes with 10 wings and 5 drums at about $27.00, which is kinda pricey to me but not too unusual for similar places. You can get the fried chicken with spicy, soy garlic or no glaze. My personal opinion: get no glaze or spicy, but avoid the soy garlic. The spicy has an interesting kick to it, and the no glaze fried chicken is nothing special but good enough, and crispy! The soy garlic just tastes kinda strange to me; it's like neither here nor there in terms of flavors. I think I like Bonchon mostly because the chicken is pretty crispy, but the chicken itself isn't mindblowing or anything. I would come back if friends wanted to, but yeah I'm not really into it. It took another FOUR tries to even get the check. We originally wanted to pay by credit card but as we couldn't get anyone to pick it up. We finally paid by cash and left. The food itself was fine. I don't have too much experience in Korean Fried Chicken but it was super tasty! the Spicy is JUST a bit too spicy for me, so we did a mix. But I'm glad we didn't order the drumsticks, those were huge! The tacos are also enormous which were a good filler - in pretty much, regular mission flour tortillas (which is why they're so huge?) We ordered takoyaki, vegetable udon, half and half 30 pieces spicy and non spicy chicken that came with radishes and their dukbokki with cheese and noodles! All of their dishes was good and flavorful and came In a timely manner. We also ordered their two blue moon on draft and yogurt lychee soju. Also wasn't bad. The only complaint we had was that we saw the other tables chicken, and the size of theirs was way bigger than our chicken sizes, which was disappointing. We usually go to the Bonchon in Sunnyvale for the delicious chicken, but we heard that the owners opened up a location in Mountain View so we decided to go check it out. It was a hot day today and the restaurant was warm, but the staff informed me that the AC was on full blast and something must be wrong with the system. Hopefully they get that fixed soon! On to the food. We got our usual soy garlic wings and they were cooked to perfection! Definitely on par to the Sunnyvale location. We also tried the japchae which was really good with our chicken. So on May 16 I ordered a 159 dollar order. While I was eating my salad I found a moth in the food. How disgusting... I would think that even after washing the lettuce the big would have been removed but no it was in my salad. Probably will not be ordering from Bomchon again.
