I've been to PLENTY of Bonchons - and they all vary in their chicken consistency and their preparation of their entrees. The Lowell Bonchon NAILS it with its wings. Get the SPICY wings for a fun and satisfying kick of crunch, juiciness, and flavor! I'm also not usually a fan of overloading on the carbs, but you HAVE TO GET THE HOUSE FRIED RICE. It's made in a more Cambodian-style so the rice has more a charred/wok-taste to it and the fried rice dish in general has more of a saucey, wet consistency. We added kimchi bacon to it for an extra level of decadence and seriously - its spoonful after spoonful of YUM! Been here a few times and the soy garlic wings are the standout for sure but I can't say much else excites me. Last lunch I had we ordered the soy garlic strips with coleslaw, house fried rice, pot stickers, and fries. Again the strips were great but when I asked for a side of sauce I was told that they didn't give extra wing sauce but I could have any other sauce. Weird. I don't see why they couldn't give a little extra sauce. The rice and potstickers were okay but they weren't very flavorful. It is a nice place for big groups though. The food here is great. But the service is really bad. You have a 50/50 chance that your order will be wrong when you pick it up. You have to check it when you get there. But service is also very slow. So you should set aside 45 min if you plan to pick up your order to allow time for them to fix the inevitable mistake they will have made on your order. They also don't care when they screw up. The spicy sauce is inedible. It burns your tongue so badly that you can't taste anything for 24 min after eating (I timed it) even if you rinse your mouth out repeatedly. Even people I know who enjoy very spicy food avoid it at all costs. The soy garlic sauce, however, is like how I imagine heaven might taste. Addictive, and deliciously mind blowing. I have enjoyed it on their wings, strips, and especially their boneless wings and drumsticks. The bulgogi fried rice is also amazing. They have some secret sauce or glaze they put on it and it makes it taste better than any fried rice I've ever had in MA. The gyoza is good but I wish they offered it steamed. The fries are also delicious but they overcook them sometimes. I would give them 3 stars since service is 1 star and the fried chicken itself (when made right) is 5 stars but they lose a point for nearly killing me with their spicy sauce and for taking forever to fix their mistakes. Ok, so I decided to get takeout from here recently, years after my last visit. I ordered ahead and selected the Curbside option via their app. Well, we sat there for about 20 minutes (I ran into Snowdaes next door to grab something), but still nothing. I called. No one answered their phone. I finally went in and the lobby was full of at least 10 customers waiting for their orders. There were 2 people ahead of me, but when I got to the counter, they said my order was right there on the table, and pointed me in that direction. It was grab & go. I wish I would have known that so we wouldn't have wasted all that time!! Onto the food. I ordered a ton since it had been a while. Got a small order of 1/2 soy garlic & 1/2 plain (meant to get the spicy). The plain ones were no good, but that was my mistake. Soy garlic was good. We also got the pork belly bao buns (pork was dry), the spicy chicken sliders (spicy, but good), and oh my word, the best thing that I would order again in a heartbeat... the bulgogi fried rice. Usually Bonchon is top tier, but the past few takeout orders were just so disappointing. How is it ok to spend $70 on boneless wings and be given tiny overly breaded pieces of chicken that you can scoop into two hands??? We were still so hungry afterwards. Eight of us came here because of all the raves on this food for lunch. We came on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't busy, yet we waited a bit to be seated. It was a 15-minute wait too, for a place with PLENTY of open seating, there was only one other family eating. We finally got seated and looked over our menus, they brought out waters, which took some time as well. Finally, we put our order in and our food took an HOUR to come out to our table. AN HOUR! There were people being served before us that came in AFTER us. I was shocked. The wings are good, fried rice for my kids were good, the bibimbob orders for our table came out first but then we're all watching them eat while the rest of the table waits. The salmon salad was delicious and this is what saved them from getting one star or no stars. The food is good. My wings finally arrived after an hour and I got the half and half, the half soy garlic wings and the other half spicy wings. The spicy wings had the right amount of heat too. It took us another half hour for them to get us our check, another 20 minutes to get us to sign our check. By then, we were late for an appointment. As a recent transplant from Boston, we are big fans of the Bonchon in Allston and have been going there for years now, so we were excited to find one in Lowell. We got a holiday drink special which was good but it took about 20 minutes for the chicken to come and another 15 for the dumplings (appetizer). The dumplings were subpar at best. When our kimchi bacon rice was a no show after almost finishing up the chicken, we alerted our waitress who told us that the kitchen was backed up and that they were working on the rice, the place was nearly empty btw. Our rice finally came and it was burnt, we could see the burnt pieces of vegetable, we took 2 bites and gave up. I've been to other Bonchon branches and this one is the same as the other ones. Same good quality food. They offer delivery and pick up. You can drop by and pick up your order contactless. They've set up a table by the door and have names on your order. They do also have dine in and require a temperature check first. Their lunch menu is the best deal. The restaurant is in an interesting location - right next to a shaved ice store inside a small plaza. Unlike the Salem location it looked like a full restaurant and not just a place to get take-out. The food was ready when I arrived so no wait at all. The food was okay - nothing great. Tasty and a bit greasy. The Bonchon rice was interesting - they make an effort to put a lot of peppers and chicken but the rice itself had a bit of an over-cooked taste. Very clumpy and very greasy. The pork belly buns were very good. A little messy but super flavorful with a nice kick. I did think both items were a bit expensive for the quality and amount. read more

Great service and excellent food. Atmosphere could be more desired. Having gone on three visits in 1.5 months, my family and I are in love with Bonchon. We regularly order the chicken tenders but after switching it up and getting the Salmon Avacado Ball, I can say that they excel at everything they make. Simply put all the entree dishes are delicious. Drinks are mostly okay, but nothing to write home about. The bar is a nice touch and I can't complain about the atmosphere too much given the food is the main focus. 4 stars well deserved, and they're on their way to a 5th. read more

I wish I could give a no star review because THIS location deserves it. It all started with a take-out delivery order that never happened. After calling them for a status update, there was never a sense of urgency or an apology. I should never have to wait 2 1/2 hours for food delivery. This is also asking if they were busier than usual. The hostess taking orders or answering the phone was just rude and did not seem to care whatsoever. By no means does this Bon Chon live up to their other locations . This one S U C K S! By the way, after 2 1/2 hours, I had to cancel my order. Wait for it......... the delivery man calls us to tell us he's here after 3 hours! Had to tell them that we canceled the order hours ago, and he said they reordered the order. Nope! Buddy! Not us. To order a 1 liquor drink they serve it in a short rocks glass which is good for a bourbon on the rocks not for a 1 shot with a mixer. No silverware, set ups or bartender to keep me company I'm sure if I need anything I'll be waiting or be left unsatisfied. Over all, the food was fine I guess. Least favorite of the Bonchons I have been to as of yet. Our table was never greeted, so ten minutes after sitting down, we stopped a server and asked to order. Our soft drinks took more than ten minutes to arrive. Wings hit the table, then a little later the fried rice we ordered. It seemed like the japchae didn't get put in until she realized we didn't have it, as we were mostly done with what we had when it hit the table. Drinks sat empty most of the meal. Food quality was lesser than what I usually get at Allston, and the spicy wings were uncharacteristically mild. Japchae was definitely good, and the fried rice was very average. Overall 4/5. Surprise came at the end when an automatic gratuity of 18% was applied to the check for our table of five. I tried to look around the host stand for where this was listed, and never saw it on the menu. I could easily have missed it, as I wasn't really searching for it when we had the menus. We were disappointed, as none of us have ever been charged like this for a party of less than six and our service was really bad. We weren't notified in the beginning, as we were never greeted. The tip ended up being quite a bit with the size of our food order, and while we typically tip around 18% for decent service, it really wasn't appropriate. read more
