I read some good stuff about this place and they were right. Place is at a shopping mall with several other business with many customers but we had no problem finding parking. There were several people waiting to pick up deliveries so looks like a popular DoorDash/Uber Eats place. We were seated right away and our server took our drink order almost right away. They have many interesting rolls and we tried two from their specials menu - Ocean Roll and Royal King roll. I'd go back to this place for the ocean roll! Sashimi was fresh and very nice pieces. Enjoyable meal. I found my dinner choice after hemming and hawing on the reviews for several places in town. I sat comfortably at the bar and a view of the sushi being prepared from the front row. The place was busy with diners and I saw a lot of food delivery traffic, too. It's located on the corner of the back of a strip mall. There's a large lot for parking. A couple of other businesses were open at the same time and there was a fair amount of cars in the lot. I read through the names of the rolls as listed in the menu and as much as it hurt my heart, I ordered the Go Patriots roll (spicy tuna, avocado, and shrimp tempura), salmon nigiri, and toro nigiri. I've been to Sushi Yanagi multiple times, and it's one of the better sushi spots in Chelmsford. My most recent visit was last night with one other person, and overall, it was a solid experience. We ordered the Yanagi Platter, and the sashimi was fresh and flavorful. The slices were a bit thinner compared to other places, but the quality was there. The nigiri was good too, though the rice should have been colder for the perfect bite. The Da Roll was well done--balanced flavors and nice presentation. We also tried the Shrimp Yaki Udon, which had excellent flavor, but there was too much liquid. It could've been seared a bit more for that wok-char texture. The biggest downside was the shrimp--they were cut in half and felt skimpy for a dish that costs nearly $20. For that price, I'd expect whole shrimp and at least double the portion. The miso soup and salad were standard--nothing special, but they do the job. The star of the night was the Royal King Roll, which is written on the chalkboard (not on the menu). This roll has been consistently great every time I've ordered it, and last night was no exception--highly recommend it if you see it on the board! As for atmosphere, the restaurant is small and not fancy, so if you're looking for a high-end vibe, this isn't it. The experience starts with great service where you are greeted and quickly seated. A server immediately came to my table to get me going with a drink. Prices are reasonable and a good value. It's a comfortable restaurant with a sizable bar. I have visited several times. It has been incredibly consistent for this visit, I had the sashimi lunch special that started with piping hot miso soup and a house salad with a generous topping of ginger dressing. We've been here twice and everything has been outstanding! If you've never had yellowtail collar, it is a necessity to order it here. Found this place while in Chelmsford for a Comedy Show. Located in a busy strip mall, there was ample parking. Walking in, you could see a lot of takeout orders leaving the place. Large bar and booths lining the sides, gave it a lounge feel. Was seated very quickly and drink orders were taken right away. Based on reviews, ordered the Royal King Roll and then spotted additional special rolls and elected to try the Ocean Roll as well. Completed the order with some Octopus Sushi and White Tuna and Salmon Sashimi. Also had mixed tempura with some fried rice, this came with miso soup and a salad. The tempura was nicely fried, more panko breading than I'm used to but gave it that nice crunch. The fried rice was also a bit crunchy, more of a Japanese style fried rice but it was seasoned very nicely. The Ocean roll had large pieces of fish and was absolutely great! The Royal King Roll wasn't anything special IMHO, and probably wouldn't order again. The sashimi was nice thick slices and tasted great. Octopus Sushi was also very good and tender, would order again. Tried the Mai Tai and although it was tasty, not particularly strong. Overall a good experience if you're in the area, can't say it would go down as a craveable place. Also higher priced than places near me. read more

This is my boyfriend and I's go to sushi spot, we usually get takeout, but we've dined in once. I have no complaints of the service that was provided. There's one roll that I love, but I cant remember which one it is. I think it's the Crazy Tuna Roll. I typically prefer salmon, but the crunch adds a nice texture. read more

We took my niece and nephew here to celebrate my niece's honorary school award accomplishment -- super proud of her. My nephew wasn't as hungry so he chose to order Shrimp Tempura to munch on. My niece wanted a specialty roll similar to a California Roll but with crab wrapped around it, and our server made it happen. We ordered the Sushi & Sashimi Boat for Two which came with an assorted 10 pieces of chef's choice of sushi, 18 pieces of mixed sashimi , one crazy tuna roll, and one eel avocado roll. Everything was fresh and made to order, and I appreciated the mix of sashimi as it gave us a nice tasting of various types of fish. Love the sampling aspect from sushi boats! We also ordered three desserts to share, and one to take home to their mom. Everyone collectively agreed that all desserts ordered were really good. Great location off the main stretch in Drum Hill. Greeting and service were on point....The family ownership also shows family pride as the place is spotless with a warm and comfortable ambience. I tried the mai tie which was well made. As an aside, I had an opportunity to watch the sushi chefs at work since I sitting at the bar and they were both skilled and passionate about presentation. I love Sushi Yanagi! A few months back, I was craving sushi, but since moving back to the area after many years, didn't have a favorite local spot lined up. I am glad to say that this is now it! They have great lunch specials--I always order the sashimi bento box with 6 pieces of sashimi, steamed rice, miso soup, a salad, and shumai/gyoza. I've also gotten the sashimi dinner and maki combination for dinner and they were both great. Customer service is great too, and I always look forward to when I pick up a meal from here. In these northern parts away from the city, it's challenging to find a good Japanese spot that isn't a Chinese sports bar that happens to serve sushi. Sushi Yanagi for all I know could be just that since I've only came here for pickup so I'm not 100% sure, but their main focus is on Japanese cuisine and surprisingly, they do it well. Out of Control Roll- This is one of the chef's specialty rolls that consist of spicy salmon with avocado rolled up inside the seaweed and rice and on the exterior is tuna and yellowtail with tobiko and scallions on top. Fresh and delish. Dragon Roll- Inside the seaweed were shredded cucumbers and eel rolled up with rice and then topped with avocado, sprinkled with sesame seeds and lightly drizzled unagi sauce to finish it off. I wouldn't order this every time because it is very filling but it's not bad. Overall Service: The phone call for the order was clear, pickup time was accurate and the transaction handling was great. read more

Ever since they have opened, Sushi Yanagi has never failed me. Nothing much has changed since opening and I suggest them to any of my friends that want to try sushi. My go to rolls are the Godzilla and Chicken Tempura. The Chicken Tempura here is probably the only place I've ordered at that has it coming out still warm. I LOVE the sauce on the Godzilla roll and don't be surprised if I ever order 2/3 of these at once. Sushi Yanaga has other items besides sushi, but most of my sushi joints are MIA since COVID kicked in. Definitely coming back soon! read more

Since discovering this excellent sushi place I'd definitely recommend to someone looking for apps or sushi. While their tempura, sushi, hiroshi buns, fried rice, miso, salads, and little eats like that are fantastic I may have ordered the meals on bad days since the Katsu ton was over cooked as was the general tso's. While portion size for meals is generous: you can stretch to two meals out of it with extra rice, both were very dry. Overall, definitely have the sushi and little eats! Disclaimer: I visited the spot last Friday before the restaurant ban was in place. If you read this, plz stay safe during the pandemic and wash yo hands! I have been wanting to try this place for a while since I am a big sushi fan and it is pretty close to my place. It was hidden in a strip mall in Chelmsford, which was a little bit difficult to find, but there are plenty of parking spaces. Now, I am a firm believer in the value of the food according to price and convenience. The food can be the bomb.com, but if it took 2 hours to get there and costed a fortune, then the golden ratio of price-convenience-taste may not be on top of my scale. Fortunately, this place hits the top of that scale for me. The rice is a little soggy, and the fish is fresh all right (not the freshest, but again this is in Chelmsford), but the maki fillings were thick and the chef did not skim on the sashimi at all. Best of all, I felt full after eating my maki and sashimi entrees, all for less than $25! ($24.50 to be exact, with 50 cents to spare). Super fulfilling and satisfied with my sushi craving. In conclusion, a great deal in Chelmsford if you crave sushi and do not want to spend a fortune. And yes, if 50 Cents is ever in Chelsmford, I would recommend him this sushi joint read more
