I gave Bon Mi a try the other day and it wasn't too bad. The beef tasted pretty good and was juicy. I was also glad that it wasn't covered in jalapeños like some I have had. I did find the pickled veggies while good, a bit too sweet and I wish there was some sort of mayo on the bread to moisten it up. I also tried their Gingerade which basically tasted like sugar water. No lemons or ginger flavor. I didn't finish it as I was afraid it would give me a headache from the sweetness. I would come back and try another sandwich. read more

The soup was just OK and the eggs rolls were way too big and the vegetables in the egg roll were not cooked all the way. The coffee was the worst thing. Water down , with no flavor. Beef pho broth was thin, lacked body, and had an overly-intense clove flavor. At pho restaurants , you usually get thinly sliced raw beef that cooks in the broth and adds a depth of flavor but they don't give you any here. The slices of beef they did include were tough and leathery. The pork lemongrass bon mi sandwich meat was dry and lacked lemongrass flavor it was supposed to have. I have been here twice now and the food is good but not worth the price. I get the Bun Vermicelli. The menu states its $8.25 however, i was charged $9. The portion is rather large but the quality of ingredients seems very poor to me. They use what looks like bagged chopped ice burg lettuce and the pork is SUPER chewy!! They just threw a bunch of whole cilantro on the top, stems and all. The customer service is bland. They are not friendly but not rude. I must have been there on a bad day but we went this past Saturday. We got there at 8:30. They close at 9. Now the restaurant protocol all over the world is that when you close at 9 it means you stop serving at 9. You don't tell the customers that they have to leave 15 min after they are served. The pho took 15 min to get to our table. Now we know that Pho broth vats sit in a kitchen ready for serving. I have eaten pho a hundred times and never waited more than 3-5 min to be served. The pho comes and it is the most TASTELESS I've ever had. The slices of beef were totally cooked, not raw as it should be served, AND tasted 2 days old. Broth had No flavor, no anise. I ate two mouthfuls and gave it away. The people that arrived right after us at 8:35 were told that they were not serving anymore, even take out. So they were turned away. If I were the owner or manager of this establishment I would let those 2 teenagers working that night go so fast. They were rude, unprofessional and even insultingly asked us to return all sauces and dishes to the counter before we left. Of course we were going to do that. We knew that was the kind of self serve restaurant it was. Duh. It was just insolence in their part. We're guessing they had a party to go to and weren't going to accommodate any customers if it caused them to be late. Anyway, as I ramble, I just want the management and owner to know how rude these 2 girls were. Perhaps your policy is to actually make customers leave at 9 when every other restaurant in the world generally stops "serving" at 9. If that's the case, that's your prerogative. The food here is pretty good, but that's not what this review is about. It's about the latest trend in shitty Eugene service, which is to announce that you're closed and/or not serving far before your posted closing time. Last time we were there was on a Friday evening. There were a couple of groups sitting and eating their meals. We were rudely greeted by the counter guy who pronounced "If you want to order, it needs to be to-go and quickly, we're closing." Understandably confused by the sign on the door which indicated they closed at 9:00, I asked first, "What time is it?" He replied "8:30" (close enough, 8:28). I then asked, "What time do you close? -- to which he replied "9:00, but we don't have eat-in now, just to-go, that's the deal." Okay, asshole. We turned around and left; and likely won't be coming back. This isn't the first time they've randomly declared an early close and been jackhats about it. I'd get it if we were showing up just before close at a sit-down type of place (a rude thing to do), but this is a sandwich shop where prep takes five minutes and it takes maybe another five to eat said sandwich. read more

I was told that Eugene doesn't have many authentic Vietnamese places and that's true. We were craving pho so we decided to stop here. Their ordering process is like a fast food place. You order your food at the register, pick up drinks, and bring your number back to the table. Thai tea is overly sweet. Diabetes in a cup. We ordered 3 cups and each of us had to dilute it with water several times. We ended up not finishing it ~ couldn't be saved. They were also served in kid sized cups. Ordered pho and pho ga(chicken pho). This place is very americanized. We got our food in about 10 mins after sitting down. If you want pho ~ this will satisfy your cravings. It was good but could have been better. A little bland but adding different seasonings to it helped a lot. Everything here is self serve. You have to get your own condiments. Legit! I got the sandwich/soup combo with spicy pho and chicken banh mi. Definitely most bang for your buck option. The pho broth was delicious, hot as hell, and actually spicy, so major props there. Wow! Who would have thought I could find an amazing Bahn Mi in downtown Eugene! I had the beef bahn mi and it was by far one of the best I've ever had. I also ordered the chicken pho, which was good. Bon Mi: Serves a great Banh Mi, and a very mediocre pho. I don't consider either 'authentic', but the reinterpreted banh mi's are always stuffed full of fresh, pickled veggies and red hot marinated (well-marbled!) pork, and served in a fluffy, crackly-crusted french roll. There are other protein options, but I deeply love the spicy marinated pork. :) The pho broth, on the other hand, has less long-simmered flavor than I'd prefer, but will certainly do on a cold day! Bottom Line: If you're in the mood for a sub, skip Subway/Jimmy John's/wherever, and get a banh mi at Bon Mi. read more

I ordered pho through Grub Hub and my order was delivered without noodles. What the PHO?!?! I also asked for extra basil, hoisin and Sriracha and not only did I not get extra, I got none at all. The bon mi sandwich had a different texture of meat than their competitor, the flavors was slightly Different than what I am used to. But not in a bad way. The flavors popped. Different is good, it's nice to have a change once in a while, and get to have the same type of food. The pho to me was just okay. The flavor was lacking, and the meat seemed a little cheap. We chose the spicy chicken and it was actually very good, although, I had a piece of bone in a few of my bites and had to spit them out. I loved BonMi before this happens. Yesterday, my mom and I went to BonMi for Large Pho and small combo. The service who has black skin splashed the half of hot soup on both my thighs. I have to say that this is not authentic Vietnamese food. The owner is Korean and her husband is French and they open a Vietnamese-French restaurant. However, the sandwich which is related to the real Vietnamese famous sandwich is really tasty in its own way. I love putting the Pate in my Red Hot Pork Sandwich. The pickled veggies gives it a bonus point! I was addicted to it for the few first weeks! It's a must try! The Pho wasn't as good as I expected. The broth's taste is good but the noodle is really weird. If you want to go with a bowl of soup and you like spicy food like how Vietnamese do, then try the spicy noodle; the broth is very interesting. What I recommend is for you to get a combo. I usually get a Red Hot Pork sandwich with half a bowl of Spicy Noodle. Great combination for me! If your belly can handle more, choose a whole bowl! I mean, why not if you can?! The owner is really kind. She gave us free brownies that day when we brought our friends over. I came early one day because I was craving Banh My for my breakfast, but she still told me to stay and offered me free coffee. While some might think that the veggies and whatnot are poorly bagged ingredients, they are forgetting that while it is a sit-down diner, it is also quick service. The lunch rush is real. Being located in the heart of downtown, this location attracts those who have less than an hour to hork down a plate of food and rush back to the daily grind. What I have to commend Bon Mi on, is serving these rushed folks and the like, with satisfying and delicious food. The veggies are always crisp and fresh, the Pho broth always incredibly flavorful and piping hot, and the service consistently good. Those are all areas that are hard to achieve for most restaurants as it is. I don't know about all of you, but when I am sick pho is my one comfort. I love being able to swing by Bon Mi and grab some pho and then head home to the comfort of my couch to slurp down some tasty noodles. The bahn mi's sandwiches are super tasty as well. Your choice of protein on a perfectly airy, pillowy bun piled high with crisp vinegary veggies and cilantro. Besides the go to menu items (pho and bahn mi's) they also have a bevy of other side dish items as well as tasty beverages.
