I have to calibrate my expectations compared to PDX. But overall they do have some kinks to work out. It was a quiet Sunday when the football team was away so it wasn't pandemonium. But the market parking is always full, so parking is challenging here. First impressions weren't great in all aspects... there were 3 tables in total but we had to wait to order. Although we did get the complementary shrimp chips and water immediately. THE WATER TASTES FUNNY... like a hint of dishwashing liquid was still there, it was not just me, I asked the entire table and they agreed. It's a great space so definitely hip... but not without a cost... trendy location means higher burden for the business and higher prices. I didn't think I'd see a pho special priced at $24 yet in Oregon but here we are. Granted bone marrow is not cheap and it's a very unique rendition. The other problem is the volume of noodles... literally the cheapest part of the dish... there was very little for a $24 bowl. We asked for extra noodles and they obliged for $2. Also that bone marrow was DIVINE if you're into that... but yet again... it's "butter" so what do I eat it with? The tiny amount of noodles or the fried donut that has a lot of oil content as well... my answer is... MORE NOODLES! Oddly enough the bun xeo which usually is a lot of work to put together the omelette was a good value. Yet once again just the lettuce pieces. I'm comparing to pretty much every PDX joint... which gives more than 3 lettuce leaves... because honestly the omelette has enough protein to make at least 5. They need to rethink this. Certain herbs are harder to get and we're in Eugene, the palate is different but more than just mint would be nice. Flavor wise it was fine... and I enjoyed it albeit on the tame side. The Staff was very attentive on water refills and clearing dishes. A lot of potential... but some things are just off balance. read more

SOLID 3.5 stars. Service: 3.2 (off to bad start) Food: 3.5 (a little lacking) Ambience: 5.0 Long overdue review of this newish Vietnamese restaurant in the Market District. I set my expectations low since I live in the SF Bay Area, where there are multiple cities with "Little Saigon" districts. Upon entering, we had to wait a bit before any staff person saw us to and get seated. They didn't seem overly, busy, so I'll attribute it to being short staffed, growing pains and still relatively new. The restaurant was very open and spacious. We were eventually seated at one of the taller tables in the front of the house many of the other patrons were seated at tables in the back of the house. Once seated though, our server provided an overview of the menu, recommendations and his personal favorites. We were given a small dish of shrimp chips...a childhood reminder for me and it was a nice touch. They were freshly fried, crisp and not greasy. We ordered the pho bo tai ($19), bahn xeo ($17) and the com chien (fried rice). Firstly, the com chien, a family recipe, was amazing! I was really impressed with this dish and would order it again. The banh xeo was a bit lacking--it wasn't bad, but nothing really memorable about this dish. While it was generously stuffed with bean sprouts/veggies, pork and a couple pieces of shrimp, the downside was it made the batter a bit soggy and the crispness vanished--pretty at presentation, it did not hold up well and fell apart while eating. The Vietnamese coffee was strong but it had a strange aftertaste--kind of soapy. The pho was alright--nothing stand out about it. There was plenty of meatballs, sliced beef and lots of broth. With the exception of getting seen & getting seated, service was good. Our server was attentive, checking on us regularly. Overall, I may check it out again and try other menu items on my next trip to Eugene. read more

YUMMMMMM! I feel like I've been waiting for a long time for this. Truly delicious pho and big flavorful bun. This location has been a few other things but this iteration suits it well. Light, airy, open and bright. The house special pho with the bone marrow is gorgeous to look at and even better to eat. We also had the bun with lemongrass pork, grilled shrimp and crispy egg roll. The portions are generous but I at the whole thing. I went in knowing what I wanted so I regret not looking at the menu more. Can't wait to go back! read more

Ordered their chicken lemongrass ban mi & bone marrow pho. The food isn't so traditional Vietnamese and the prices are definitely on the high side. The food is good but wasn't "wow'd" particularly given the price. The place is big with modern decor, and the service was pretty good. Probably wouldn't come back but glad I gave it a try. read more

First of all, I am a sucker for a great pun. So they literally had me from the get go. There was a mix up with my to go order. By the time I got home I noticed that 2/3rds of my order was still back at the restaurant. When I called expecting to just get a refund, they offered to drive the order out to me! I don't live close but they insisted it wouldn't be a problem. They made a fresh batch of the order and delivered it within 10 minutes. It's a bit of a gamble to order Pho to go. It usually doesn't stack up to having it right there in the restaurant. But I was surprised at how delicious their pho was. It was also PERFECTLY portioned. You just pour the broth into the bowl of noodles they supply and it all fits so perfectly. I am so excited for this new addition into 5th street. Looking forward to having many meals there. read more

Went here for lunch after reading good reviews about it. The place was pretty empty for prime-time lunch, but the ambiance is cute enough to make up for it being rather deserted. Our server Reggie was attentive and gave us some extra shrimp-crisps when I told him that I grew up with these and absolutely love them. I have not seen them anywhere else in a restaurant yet, so I was super pleased that they served them at every table. Now, the food itself was ok but the Pho Chay with fried tofu that my vegan friend ordered and shared some with me, was pretty bland. Even after adding some chili oil, just not much flavor to it. Of course, it was vegan so no bone broth or anything was used, and IMO that was not worth the almost $20 we paid for it. Fortunately my friend liked it ok but I was not a fan. I ordered the Pho King Banh Mi , which has shrimp and porkbelly. The protein was delicious as was the presentation. The bread however was too soft and got soggy easily, and there were not nearly enough pickled veggies on it. Could not taste any of the pickled veggies (carrot and cucumber) over the overbearing cilantro taste. My suggestion would be to leave the cilantro off and serve it separately as well as the jalapeño, not everybody appreciates these veggies (I don't and I would have said to serve them on the side if I would have known). I wish they offered a half pho/half Banh Mi as a lunch special but they unfortunately do not. They don't have any lunch specials. So overall, not bad, just not great either. read more

The server was very friendly. The food was very expensive took an extremely a long time and wasn't good. We literally took a few bites and left. I hope they have the ability to improve. The large TV is playing golf seemed out of place. read more

We had the Pho King Special with meatballs, beef and this donut atop. I had the Beef Pho Tai. It was expensive. There was a beef bone served in the Special. They do have the most desired hoodie on campus for 40 bux. All in all I enjoyed the outdoor ambiance on the second floor of the Fifth St Market. The salad rolls were bland w a single shrimp apiece. read more

The food here was authentically delicious. Here's what I tried: Salad Rolls: Fresh and flavorful! The ratio of salad to shrimp was just right, which I appreciated. I dislike when restaurants skimp on the fresh ingredients, but this was perfectly balanced. Bun Thit Nuong: The vermicelli bowl was tasty, though the noodles were a bit too al dente at first, so I mentioned it to the staff, and they promptly communicated with the chef to correct it. The pork belly was a highlight - very flavorful! Pho King Special: The broth was incredibly authentic and served piping hot - I was very impressed. The bone marrow and brisket were standouts, and I love that they offer it this way, as many places don't. It reminded me of how my family always served pho, and it's the only way I'll have it! A fun tip: try dipping the donut into the broth. My grandfather always did it, and it's a legit way to enjoy the meal. read more

It was our first time in this evening. Everything was lovely! The ambiance was nice and pleasant...I personally loved the flowers everywhere. The food was so good! Delicious. The Cha Gio' (fried spring rolls) were very flavorful and the texture was extra crispy, I loved them! My partner and I shared the Pho King Special, the best pho I have had! The bone marrow was yummy, such a nice addition, and the flavors were delicious! It was a great size for sharing. We also shared the Pho King Bahn Mi with lemongrass, pork and shrimp, which was very tasty as well. The service was great! Khalil was very kind and knowledgeable of his family restaurant. His recommendation on one of his gin cocktails with citrus, chile, and lemongrass, has become one of my new favorite gin cocktails! Spice was nice! It was such a lovely experience, can't wait to go back again and again! read more

Been here a couple times since it opened, amazing banh mi, haven't found another spot in Eugene that compares to their banh mi. Salad rolls weren't my favorite as a prefer the proportions to be a bit different myself, but the peanut sauce was still really good. I recently tried their pho but i'm not sure that I would get it again unless my other spot was closed. The amount of onions in the broth was excellent but it lacked flavor. Plus their was less noodles than I was expecting, the bowl was mostly broth, I anticipated more especially for the price. I do like the decor inside, and it feels more open compared to the place here before but the high beat techno music honestly kills the vibe for me. Service is quick and all of my servers have been really sweet, one told me about the owners journey for finding the right bread for the banh mi and think they found the perfect one. read more

Today I tried Pho King- I'm thinking it should be called Bad-Pho. First let me say, if you're looking for a trendy place to enjoy less than good Pho- you have found the right place. I'm sure because of its location it will do well. But, as a person who has eaten Pho for many years it's a sad day when I have to ask for a SALT SHAKER- this is not good. I ordered Pho Tai- which is my go to in every Pho restaurant. Always with the rare beef on the side, otherwise the meat is dry and over cooked. The broth was steaming which allowed me to cook my meat to my desired liking- (that's good) the bowl was large and filled to the top with tasteless broth and only enough noodles for a child's portion. The side plate had 2 small pieces of basil (maybe basil is now a hot item and expensive?) asked for extra and out came 2 more tiny pieces- what a joke- my Tai iced tea was so weak it was like drinking water- The service? Sub par (there were only 4 people there) Over all- poor experience. Will not go back- if you want amazing Pho and are not afraid to eat in a place that's not fancy- you need to go to Vietnam Restaurant on W11th. If you want fancy, expensive tasteless broth in a giant bowl searching for noodles then Pho King is your go to- read more

So I went to this establishment for the first time last Saturday (01-18-25), and the experience was quite good. The layout of the place seemed as it would be a really posh, upscale, over-priced venue, but it was not the case. Waitstaff were very cordial & were above par on their customer service & the like. The prices on the food were reasonably priced, and well worth it. I apologize for not taking any photos of the food we ordered. My friend had the appetizer of the fried chicken with the nuoc cham sauce drizzled on the chicken pieces. The Chicken was exceptionally crispy & that sauce was the cherry on top of this appetizer. I had the pork Bon mi, which was the best tasting Bon mi I've ever eaten. I just wish that the bread would have been a tad bit more crunchy on the exterior(like a traditional bon mi), but aside from that, I will go back again, for either items we tasted. Perhaps I'll venture out & try the pho next time too. read more

Not gonna lie the food did not hit. The service was great and the vibes were cool but it all comes down to the food. The pho was sooooo bland insanely bland should I say, the banh mi helllaaa expensive it was small for what it was and kinda salty. The bun was nottttt good the actual bun itself (the noodle) was hard and was kinda a day old. I'm not even biased cus I'm Viet but it was not heat. The spring roll was meh like it was good but you can't really mess it up, not a lot of protein in it though. The only thing that carried was the wings. The wings I do admit were pretty good read more

Fantastic phó, one of the best in Eugene. I had to get it to go and it took them only 15 minutes to make the entire meal and pack it! I told them to make sure it was extra hot since I had errands to run and when I got home it was still the perfect soup temperature. Highly recommend! read more

Well I tried. I can honestly say not the worst Phö I've had but it's pretty low on the line. The atmosphere is cute, kind of Metropolitan sports bar. The prices reflect the metro side of that. The menu seems good in concept but the food was underwhelming. My cohort had a chicken salad style dish and had to drown it in sauce to make it palatable. The phö was flavorless and the beef was tough. If you want bland and chewy I guess it would be awesome. I had to ask for more of the soup dressings of lime and basil and bean sprouts because the portion was tiny. Even the amount of rice noodles in the bowl was half what I find typical. When a place does this (and to be honest I've only run across it one other time) it screams cutting corners at the cost of hospitality. I mean that's the cheap stuff! The spring rolls have a crunchy wanton in the center that really throws off the balance of the texture, and are pretty uninspired. My favorite part though, after eating one bowl of soup, half the spring roll appetizer I split with my cohort, and half a pot of tea, for Dinner, the waiter felt it was necessary to remark on how he'd barely seen anyone finish So Much Food in one sitting. Just a word for the future, don't point out how much women eat. Low class cringe for real. People were otherwise friendly and the space was clean but I've got no reason to go back. read more

This place offers below average Vietnamese food in a noisy environment at prices above market. Service is excellent. Our main complain was the pho was sort of bizarre. The pho special, $24, was full of veggies - carrots, snow peas, cabbage, mushrooms, zucchini, bok choy, etc. It was basically Chinese happy family soup without the hoisin sauce. No tripe, no tendon but way too many noodles. A double order of leaves ($2 extra) yielded a grand total of six sprigs of basil. The shrimp spring rolls ($11) were tasty and the peanut sauce excellent. Bun thit nuong was mostly noodles but plenty of pork meat as well. Tasty. Service was good. The place is sort of bare inside (which is fine) but was blasting house music which sort of ruined the atmosphere for a quiet lunch. Overall, like most places around 5th St Market, you are paying tourist prices for lower quality food. We had high hopes for this place (the bone marrow is unique!) but can't say we would return. Still on the hunt for real viet food in the area. read more

Excellent banh mi. Perfect balance of flavors, filling and light crisp bread. Crushed it! I'll return regularly for that deliciousness.

A very disappointing experience. I was really looking forward to trying this place. At first, the service was fine but quickly went bad. The waitress lost our order before getting it to the kitchen. By the time she let us know, 30 minutes had already passed. We waited another 15 minutes before deciding it just was not worth it and walked out. We had ordered the fresh rolls with pork and they had brought out the rolls with shrimp. Unfortunately we could not accept them due to food allergies.
