I was really happy with the vegetarian banh mi sandwich at this restaurant. I came right around noon on a Thursday, and there was no line! I was greeted warmly as soon as I walked in, and my order was ready very quickly! I was particularly impressed with the sandwich because a lot of sandwiches of this type can be quite dry. I found the flavoring in both the tofu and the sauces to be plentiful and deep. The only thing that could make it better would be that the toppings are placed at the bottom of the sandwich, and the tofu is placed on top, making it hard to get all of the flavors in a single bite. If the toppings and tofu were more evenly distributed, it would be truly amazing! The vegetables are mostly bland except for the bamboo. Texture of the whole dish is not balanced either. Most ingredients are sliced, but the chicken is cut into small cubes and it got broken up even further. They are hard to pick up and at the end, I had to use a spoon to scoop them out. We had lunch at Bon Me today. It was a very nice meal! This cozy little restaurant was modern, had a nice atmosphere and was very clean. The service was also great. The staff was pleasant to deal with and got they got our food served quickly. I opted for Ali's Pho which came with roasted chicken, rice noodles, red cabbage, cilantro, and scallions. I gotta say, it was a big bowl of pure soupy goodness. The pho was served piping hot, and each spoonful was bursting with flavorful broth. The combination of the savory chicken, herbed broth, fresh cilantro and the subtle crunch of the red cabbage created a nice blend of taste and texture which I really loved. This place is well worth visiting. I would highly recommend Bon Me to anyone looking for a big bowl of tasty pho. You really can't go wrong here. Four stars! read more

After children's museum closed we went over to order take out. They packaged the to go very well. The pho broth was good- you can taste the anise, onion and beef flavor. They included allot of rice noodles and cilantro, cabbage. A lot of cooked chicken. There was a lime wedge in there as well- inspired by authentic pho soup. The kids meal wasn't bad. We chose rice noodles and it came with plenty of carrots and cucumbers. And on the side, sauce. My kids love rice noodles so it was great- they don't care for any sort sauce but i mist some of the soy on it . We got a cold so it was perfect remedy. read more

Customer service gets 5 stars. Always friendly and great service. The food on the other hand is a hit or miss. Sometimes too salty. Also please bring back coconut braised and Zichuan chicken and summer rolls. I get that you want to switch up the menu but a lot of the inspos are like way too far off and confusing. I ordered the Twisted Tamarind or whatever... I see the description says pad thai style and sure it had hints of it but it was very mediocre and overly salty. The sauce was awful. If you are someone who has no idea what pho is supposed to taste like, then you're in luck! For context, along with cisco/U.S foods chicken thigh, they do not serve it with the standard fresh herbs (basil, cilantro, mint), limes, jalapeños, bean sprouts or hoisin sauce. Expensive, but good. I was looking for something on the healthier side, so I found this place. It's small, limited seating, but if you go early it's not a problem. It's a modern little place - you can place your order on an ipad and pay for it yourself. You can also order from a person behind the counter. It was easy to order, but expensive. A salad bowl and a bottled water cost me over 18 bucks. Geez, boston. To note- they do have a small cooler with little cups you can get free water at. I didn't notice this until after. But anyhow, the salad bowl was really good. Nice greens and slivered almonds and tofu. I got the deviled tea egg too, which was excellent. I will try their Banh Mi sandwich someday too. The flavors of the meats are great but the whole meal never comes together. The Korean style sandwich I got today was not good. There is too much Mayo so the bread is soggy half through eating it. And the veggie to protein ratio is wayyy off. It's mostly a veggie and Mayo sandwich. The chicken was flavor not too spicy I just wished there was more of it. The portion of the noodle salad was so dingy compared to kendall and there simply isn't any customer service. The girl took my order with an annoyed face. The pork was so salty I couldn't eat it all. While their prices are fair and service is quick, the lack of bold flavors detract from their offerings which leaves for a lackluster flavor experience. If you need a quick and decent bite, Bon Me is the place for you. Otherwise there are better Asian and fusion restaurants in the area. While dining at Bon Me, our small party ordered the fried rice, japchae, Miso Kimchi Ramen (pictured), and the Namesake Bahn Mi. To start off, the presentation of the food was fantastic-- vibrant colors, good sandwich assembly, and overall very solid plating. The food came out quickly and service was very friendly. On the other hand, the ramen and japchae portions could have been more substantial, but did not detract from the meal. Where Bon Me excels in their speed and service, their flavors lack in boldness. A critical component of a strong miso based ramen is the salty miso tare which gives the ramen a bold and savory flavor. While the soup was pleasant, it lacked the proper elements in better ramen. The noodles also were soggy and soft, not as chewy as other ramen (the noodles felt like instant ramen noodles). The toppings were good but the ramen could have benefited from more kimchi. For the Nakesake Bahn Mi, the composition of the sandwich was strong (bread toasted well, good bites with pork, veggies, and mayo), but the pork also lacked in flavor. The pairing of the pickled vegetables, pork, and mayo did create a strong flavor profile, but was lacking the last little bit of kick. read more

Pretty much across the street from the Children's Museum, Fort Point now welcomes Bon Me's newest location. According to the design firm behind this new location, they're located in the oldest, still-standing building in the area but you wouldn't know it when walking in. A modern, sleek, white decor with LEDs will welcome you alongside a Square-powered POS system. I went with one of their rice bowls with BBQ pork ($8) which also came with some pickled carrot, daikon, mesclun, bean sprouts, cilantro, shallots, scallions and a soy drizzle. Having never really frequented their truck, I wasn't too sure what to expect and I found myself devouring away. The smells weren't all that great however the flavor was there. The pork was terrific and the bowl was very filling and satisfying as well. Service was friendly and very, very quick and left me impressed, especially considering that this was their first day in business. All in all I'm happy to see this place join the area, especially since I've exhausted most of my lunch options in the area since starting this job there 10 months ago. A lot of the places usually are pretty underwhelming and pretty boring, or too expensive and this place seems to be right in that sweet spot. Not that the fine folk of the Innovation District have been starving for Bon Me's arrival, as the truck is serial parker along the Greenway near South Station. But now you're in and out faster than ever, with production and facilities to crank out 32 orders in 14 minutes (I counted), and cozy seating that surpasses the Kendall Square locale. The one significant note: my portioning was half what the Kendall shop and the trucks serve. Much like a good book, I know the weight of a Bon Me noodle salad, and this guy had my arm floating upwards like when you grab a plastic mug thinking it's glass. You know what I'm talking about. First time trying it out after hearing about it from a friend. Spotted the truck on Kilby st. I tried their BBQ Chicken sub. It wasn't bad but not authentic at all--very Americanized. The french bread they used was good and tasted fresh. It's a bit pricey compared to authentic Vietnamese subs. I placed an order of 2 subs and 2 drinks and it cost close to $20. Excellent informal lunch spot. I eat gluten free, so it is nice to know that every flavor and style can be put on a salad. The greens are incredibly fresh and tasty.
