I visited for lunch on a Wednesday after seeing they had a vegan version of their curry laksa ($18.50 plus tax), so I ordered that. The place was super busy, but they were able to squeeze me into a bar seat. It took almost half an hour for my laksa to come after some mix-up with the order. In the soup came a few pieces of deep fried tofu cubes, lots of shimenji mushrooms and bok choy, a generous portion of ramen noodles, bean sprouts, and fried crispy onions to garnish. The soup broth was impressive, being appropriately rich in depth, not too oily, and perfectly balanced. Good-quality ingredients. The day we happen to pop in, there was a 50% off munchies happy hour and we were delighted to take part in that! I really love pho so I was happy to see pho ga on the list for noodle soups. It comes with a little bowl of sprouts and basil, if you ask, you can get a little more basil, our waiter was very accommodating. They have some amazing vegan options and we also got the curry laksa, roasted mushroom dumplings, and also the green beans. WOW, the green beans were ah-maz-ing. I could not stop eating them. The mushroom dumplings were HUGE and very filling. One of the waitstaff was wearing a red oil dumpling shirt, and so we decided to order one of those as well. We came here because we were craving pho and saw that this restaurant had a lot of great reviews. When we arrived, it was busy, so we put our name on the waitlist and walked over to Trader Joe's while we waited. Once seated, three different servers came by asking if we had ordered drinks yet. We told them we had, but then we sat there for about 15 minutes before anyone came back to take our food order. By that point, the restaurant had already slowed down significantly, yet staff members were standing around chatting instead of checking on tables. When our server finally took our order, she seemed annoyed and rushed, asking if that was all we wanted before quickly walking away. After we finished eating, we had to wave down staff multiple times just to get the check, but no one came. Eventually, I walked to the front to pay, and the same server who took our order asked, "How may I help you?" I explained that we had been trying to check out and no one had checked on us. Her response was simply, "I can check you out then". The food was decent, but the service was some of the worst I've experienced. However, the General Tso's shrimp did not taste like real shrimp. It was weird, even though we had leftovers, neither of us took anything home. Let's just say that this cold / flu season has not been the best for me, so on a recent trip to the East Coast, I knew that I needed all the Pho I could get to mend myself back to health.. and hence, all the recent Pho check-in's and photos. We had not origianlly planned on eating at Mecha Noodle Bar {as the plan was the North End for pasta}, but since I wasn't feeling 100% and was leaving the next day for a wellness retreat, I knew I needed some Pho. And Mecha did not disappoint! Greeted immediatly by the hostess with a warm welcome and a friendly smile. We then opted for a seat at the bar. Huge shout out to Aaron who was tending bar on the night of our visit - Bar was packed, and he seemlessly attended to each patron while chatting them up and creating a wonderful experience. Now for the good stuff - The food! A wide variety of drinks are available - Bubble Tea, Cocktails, Craft Beer, Sake and Soft Drinks - Of course, I grabbed an IPA right away {yes, I know, probably not the best when your not feeling well, but it can't make it any worse.. right?!}. The Hubs scooped up a Pork Belly Steamed Bao Bun {served with one piece per order} - filled with a perfectly cooked piece of Pork, Pickled Carrots & Daikon, a slice of Cucumber & a drizzle of Hoisin. We shared the Herbed Edamame - combined with Garlic Confit, Sage, Roasemary and Sea Salt - This was a combo that I never knew I needed and quite possibly one of the best Edamame I've ever had! For the life of me, I couldn't tell you what the Hubs got for dinner becasue once my Pho arrived, it was all I could focus on. I decided on the Pho Ga {dubbed "the hangover cure"} - Thick slices of Chicken, Noodles, Green Onions, Cilantro and a Chicken Broth that was utter perfection. I added some Thai Basil and an un-godly amount of Bean Sprouts to make the ultimate bowl. Service was fantastic and maybe we should have ordered a ramen or pho bowl but we had dinner plans elsewhere so this was just a "snack" we did come on a Friday between 3pm-6pm so some appetizers dishes were 50% off which we ordered the spicy Chicken wings which had some interesting dry rub seasoning. The tonkotsu ramen was alright, just tasted more salty than umami. Texture on the straight noodles was good. Al dente. My tonkotsu ramen came without an egg so I asked the server if the tonkotsu ramen comes with an egg and she said no...so I check the menu and pointed out to her that it clearly says tamago which means egg...so thennn she got me the missing egg...but I was shocked she didn't know the menu well enough to know what each ramen includes. The beef ramen was unique, not quite authentic, but tasty more like a spicy Taiwanese beef noodle flavor soup. The tan tan noodle was kinda dry. Wish there was a little more sauce of sort on the meat sauce. TEAM PHO!! TEAM MECHA!! Traditional Asian cuisine meets just the right amount of modern flair at Mecha. There are some pho-nomenal dishes here like the Roasted Mushroom Dumplings (I literally drink the brown butter miso sauce), the fall of the bone Sweet & Sour Spareribs and the Pho King which has the tenderest beef brisket. These days I admittedly come to Mecha for my pho fix instead of the traditional Viet spot I usually frequent. Service is way friendlier here, price is just about the same (!), the restaurant is wayyy cleaner, the pho is not only authentic here but uses way more premium cuts of meat and the vibes are fun & young! Overall: 3/5 Food: 3/5 - I got the spicy miso ramen and my friend got the shoyu paitan. We also got the chili dumplings appetizer to share. The ramen taste was alright, but a bit too salty. While the taste of the soup was salty, the flavor profile wasn't that deep, spicy or rich. It honestly just tasted of msg/salt/sodium and the toppings were lacking (no boiled egg in a ramen (?) and barely any other toppings). Value: 3/5 - The total of all the dishes ended up being around $64 which is alright but not something I would come back for or really recommend. Service: 2/5 - Our initial server was friendly but took a long time initially even getting our order or greeting us at the table. The server then let us know that she would no longer be serving our table and that another server would be taking care of our table but the new server did not check up on the table to give water refills or pick up the check once (until we called her to do so). Considering the ramen was very salty, the only service we would want is water refills and this bare minimum was not fulfilled and it took a long time to get our check. I would say the service was pretty disappointing and lacking for a restaurant that was not packed. Overall, I would say the value of this place is not met considering the taste, quality and service that this restaurant offers. I sat at the bar, no problem getting a spot. The bartender seemed to be serving to the bar and to tables around the bar so it took a bit to get a drink. I was happy with the selection of sake and it was my first time having a boba drink with alcohol. (The banana boba is great but due to the rum it has a hint of black licorice flavor) The soup was yummy. The pork belly was very very fatty and didn't seem like it was cooked long at all. I visit the Seaport area monthly for work, and have found it to be a bit of a food desert if you're looking for quality food that won't break the bank. So I was thrilled when someone recommended Mecha Noodle Bar! I came here for dinner with three friends for restaurant week. The interior is spacious and chic, the service was warm and prompt, but the restaurant week set meal was what stole the show: $36 for four courses AND a drink (one alcoholic option and one non-alcoholic)? This has got to be one of the best restaurant week deals I've seen in recent years. For food, I ordered the KFC bao, spicy tuna hand roll, shoyu paitan, and black sesame mochi. The KFC bao was delicious: crispy and seasoned on the outside and tender on the inside. It was probably my favorite dish of the evening. The tuna hand roll was very good and quite generous with the amount of tuna. The shoyu was also delicious, and came with a flavorful broth and noodles that were perfectly al dente. I added the corn and chili oil, but would probably skip that next time; I don't think it added very much. The sesame mochi ice cream was also standout. It's served cut in half, with the ice cream side dipped in a kind of rice puff, which actually added a lot of texture and flavor to what would otherwise be a relatively simple dessert. As an added bonus, we also got a big bowl of edamame on the house. The edamame is cooked in garlic confit, rosemary, sage, and sea salt, and is also huge in portion! When my son, who attends BU, learned that I've never had pho before, he was compelled to rectify my "misstep" by taking me to Mecha! The unique decor (dozens of wooden beams hanging from the ceiling) emits a warm, welcoming vibe, as does the friendly staff. We sat at the bar (chairs are more comfortable there) and enjoyed our front row seats to watch the hard-working and happy cooks/chefs in action. I ordered the classic Pho Tai, with add on's of greens (bok choy) and marrow oil. The rich broth was very tasty; the bowl of pho was filling enough that I took about half of it home. My son ordered Paitan (ramen with tender slices of chicken in an intensely flavored broth--yum)! My one regret: I wish I'd asked our server to write down the name of one of the three table sauces that added a slightly sweet, slightly tangy flavor to the noodles and beef. The Curry Laksa is legit!! I'm Malaysian and I was pleasantly surprised at how authentic this is, it's comparable to those that you get at the best Malaysian hawkers. Delicious chicken-based broth and soft thick yellow noodles with slices of chicken breast and bok choi- mmm. Server was pleasant and helpful. I liked the vibe of the restaurant- it's a full sit-down place with table service, but casual and service was quick. As a ramen lover (and soup lover in general), I decided to give Mecha noodle bar a try. When I'm very hungry, I tend to want a hot bowl of ramen with pork and lots of noodles! We were seated quickly at the bar, and our food came out in a timely manner as well. The restaurant was spacious, had high ceilings and lots of seating. It also seemed like they were getting a lot of to-go orders so this might be a good place to get some soup without leaving the comfort of your home! Apps: edamame was nice, although they did put large pieces of thyme which made it harder to eat. They also had whole cloves of garlic which tasted great! But edamame doesn't really need all that fuss. I'm happy with just a bit of salt and minced garlic. We also got the pork baos which were good but the pork belly was a bit overcooked and had bits of hardened meat. Entrees: I got the Tonkotsu ramen which came with two big slices pork. It was a great soup, the broth was hearty and it had plenty of noodles. It was a great way to warm up after walking around Seaport. TL;DR: good ramen! Apps were ok. We've had this place bookmarked for a bit and found ourselves in the neighborhood for a late lunch. Inside is funky but cozy decore with great music on in the background. Our waiter was quick, helpful and super friendly. We ordered the curry poutine fries to share - and they didn't disappoint - with lots of spicy curry sauce to sop up with the fries. My husband and daughter got the pha Bo vien and both really enjoyed it. I got the spicy beef ramen and loved it. The broth was incredible rich and flavorful with enough spice to make me happy but not so much that that's all you taste. It's not a bad place if you work around the area or visiting the children's museum. It actually looks nice inside and I love the design in the ceilings. 1. Pho tai Bo vien was okay but soup base is not authentic. It is about 80% of the way there but for the location it is convenient and you don't have to drive to Dorchester. Beef slices were tender but meatballs were super salty. I did have an issue with the pho which I will discuss at the end. 2. Pork and sticky rice were solid. Rice taste as it should but pork was dry and salty 3. Spicy chicken wings did not taste spicy at all just salty. Notice any trend? Despite all this I still enjoyed the meal until I found a strand of black hair buried underneath my pho noodles half way through. At that point I can: A. Take the hair out and keep eating B. Make a scene and tell waiteress I want a refund C. Kindly ask waitress for a new bowl I went with option C. She was understanding, apologetic, handled the situation well and offered replacement right away. Where they went wrong is the guy with the orange shirt who brought out the new bowl. He did apologize as well but as he was walking away, he said hi to my baby on the highchair and made a comment "oh you have a lot of hair!" I was a bit confused for his intent behind this comment. Is he trying to say my son is big and cute? Or is he insinuating something about my son's hair falling in the soup? He has brown hair and the soup had black hair btw. Regardless it was a poorly time comment especially when you just had an issue about hair in your soup base. Communication is key and it caught me off guard so I did not question his intent immediately as he was walking away but it was ambiguous enough to make me pause and motivated me to write this review. When it's time to pay waitress actually brought us the wrong check on top of all the chaos. Then they bring you a mobile payment system and stand to wait as you select the tip. The lowest auto default is 20% so if you want to do 15% you would need to calculate it yourself. read more

The noodles were good, the chashu was too fatty and the broth was a bit bitter.
