I really enjoyed eating here. You pick your broth and then have a large selection of other items to put into your ramen. I highly recommend. The service was pretty fast and the restaurant seems like it can get pretty busy. We were lucky we got a spot fairly fast.

It's a very cold night in Boston so great time to try this new mala Tong place. This place is located somewhat underground where you have to go down a set of stairs from the street level. The place is fairly well lit and somewhat spacious, but I only accommodates 2 to 4 person tables You order by scanning the QR code, but the server brings you water at first with napkins and soup and chopstick set. The menu is fairly straightforward on your phone. They do have that specials combination where they have preset items along with a drink, but I wanted to do my own custom version. Once you complete the order on your phone, it goes to the kitchen and you just wait while you're waiting. You can actually go up to the sauce station and create your own sauce. I only went up to grab a green onion and cilantro, but there is garlic, hot oil, sesame oil, and some other sauces. 4/5 - the beef bone soup was very flavorful. I had selected extra spicy so it really does kick in after a few spoonfuls. I really really liked it since the flavor was actually very complex and the spiciness just adds to the profile. The ingredients I selected were fairly standard eg Lamb slices fried egg sausage Napa cabbage. There wasn't as much wide glass noodles as I thought. The lamb slices weren't gamy but I would've liked a little bit more fat on them. The deep fried egg was OK probably won't get next time. Prices are reasonable based on the selection, so just be careful of the portioning since it does add up. Overall, I really like this place and will come again to try their different other soup bases.

Good experience. Tofu was indeed stinky, and decent. Got what I asked for. Solid and yummy food.

Large portions, order through the QR code. You have the option to customize your order or to choose from combos which is great for indecisive orderers like me! Great service and the food comes out quick.

Got the Beef Bone Soup Base (Must) 招牌牛骨汤(必选)with a few ingredients and the size of the bowl surprised me! It was delicious too. It would be a 10/10 if my potato noodles weren't overcooked.

Finally a malatang place opened up in Chinatown! They have preset bowls you can pick from or you can build your own. I built my own and added a bunch of different things. The only downside is that you don't know how much of each item you're getting. It's price per item compared to price by weight. The lady working there was super nice! My group was a little indecisive and needed a little extra time. We ended up ordering using the QR code on our table. My order was huge when it came. I got medium spicy and it had a kick to it. The fatty beef was so good with the ramen underneath. I also made a sauce at the sauce bar which paired well with the soup. I got some tofu knots that I didn't really like. Otherwise, everything else was good. They had lots of options for veggies, tofu, meats, meatballs, etc. IT was around $20 before tip and tax.

Truly authentic Chinese food. Makes one realize that there is more to Chinese cuisine than the typical commercial American stuff. This place almost has a bit of a "hole-in-the-wall" type of vibe, It is located in Boston's Chinatown and is actually in a downstairs level. It has a smaller space, which gives more of a "home-type" feel to it. You basically order via a QR code and customize your toppings via the QR-generated form. The staff and most patrons are Chinese, so it would certainly help to have a grasp of the language. If not, English is still grasped well enough for ordering. I really enjoyed the Beef Bone Broth soup. Word to the wise, their servings are massive, so be prepared. There is also fresh condiments like minced garlic, cilantro, and chili oils that one can add to a dish. Highly recommend giving this place a try!

A hidden gem of a spot for a hot warm broth that's sure to cure you of any sick day or just warm you up! Their ingredients are always fresh and their broth has certainly been marinating for long time as it's incredibly flavorful. I always get the extra spicy which is very hot so go with normal spice if you can't tolerate it! Their tomato broth is also fantastic and almost tomato soup-y! Their service is great and very attentive. And they're a smaller shop, but it certainly fits the vibe of the place. Overall - worth a trip and always hits. One of my favorite spots!

So many toppings to choose from making this the perfect DIY meal. They're known for spicy soup base but the tomato soup is non-spicy. You can add all sorts of meats or veggies for a custom bowl. Or if there's no many options go with one of their set meals. The broth was flavorful and I got plenty of beef. The restaurant is a little small but it was easy to find a seat Their ordering system is a little weird. The entire table ordered through a QR code and I thought I accidentally submitted the order I was working on. Our server explained that everyone can see the bowls that other people ordered.

Malatang soup was pretty good, we got the preset beef soup medium spicy. They also had a small sauce bar to dip the food in. We were worried the food would take a while cause we saw others sitting down who waited over 30min, but ours came within 10-15min. There are a lot of options to customize your bowl and add a bunch of toppings. Would go again when things run smoother.

Ordered this place for takeout and I really enjoyed it! Would definitely order again. The mala pot with fish maw chicken soup base and it was amazing, super affordable and high quality. I got the beef, tripe, seaweed, cilantro, quail egg, and wood ear. The soup is super rich, so I diluted it with some hot water which was perfect. (5/5) The duck gizzards were super spicy, so beware. Duck gizzards are an acquired taste, so if you like them, I'd recommend. It's a bit harder / chewier and way spicier than what I'm used to. Huge portion (3/5). Overall really happy with the quality / price/ quality and will be ordering from here again!

My pick your own malatang. I like the imitation crab roe.

Miss malatang so looked for one and decided to come here. You order by scanning menu on the table instead of the more popular way of people gathering what they want and price by weight but it works. I just wish the menu has more pictures of each ingredient. There are also preset combos but as a malatang connoisseur I have to order myself. The soup base is decent but little spicy is more spicy than other places which is not a problem for myself but just be warned if you can't eat spicy. Service is efficient and they refill water diligently. Place is clean and good enough for a malatang place. It's below street level so look down if you are looking for the place. Overall satisfied with this place. I like the 蟹黄肠 which is imitation crab roe.

This is my first time having malatang and WOW I loved every bit of it. This dish took my favorite parts of ramen and hot pot and combined it into one. The shop itself is small, cute, and the staff is friendly. For the amount of food that you get is so worth the 15-19 dollars you pay to do a diy dish. The broth was super flavorful and the veggies were fresh. My boyfriend and I have quickly added this into one of our staple restaurants and will 100% be coming back.

Shanghai Classic Pork Pan-Fried Buns上海生煎饅頭: I was instantly hooked! It's hard to imagine finding such good pan-fried buns in the US. Almost every table ordered them, so they were all freshly made, piping hot. The bun was made with unleavened dough, making it chewy and refreshing, with a light, crispy bottom--not oily or hard. The meat filling was substantial and tender, with plenty of broth (see picture). It was sweeter than salty, incredibly umami. The chili oil was also very fragrant, and dipping it in Zhenjiang vinegar enhanced the flavor and cut through the greasiness. Shredded Pork & Preserved Vegetable Noodle Soup雪菜肉絲麵: The noodles were thin and round, with a soft, mushy texture. While the noodles were clearly machine-made, this isn't a problem in the Yangtze River Delta region; the issue was likely overcooking. The shredded pork were well-stirred, with tender meat, but the noodles lacked flavor. They had to be eaten with the pickled mustard greens雪菜 to be slightly salty, and the umami flavor was severely diluted. The tableware is all disposable, and tipping is not mandatory. It's quite affordable.

Both Cantonese and Mandarin were seamlessly spoken. Shrimp Rice Roll / Egg: It looked very appealing. However, the soy sauce was ridiculously sweet, much sweeter than in China, completely exceeding the standard "umami and sweet" of the authentic Cantonese cheung fun腸粉 (rice roll) soy sauce. The cheung fun skin was somehow overcooked, so some parts without egg at the bottom were soggy from soaking in the soy sauce, making the whole roll quite greasy. I have to admire my culinary acumen: I managed to preserve most of the skin's basic texture with the extra egg. Fortunately, the shrimp were fresh enough, six in a serving, with a crispy texture. Oh well, since I'm in America, it's tolerable. I must say, I would never have come here specifically for this, never in my life. Spending $10+ on a plate of cheung fun after traveling so far, will make me feel more like a sucker than ever before!
