As a francophile, I LOVE French cuisine! Bon Ami is a wonderful new country-style French restaurant at north end of Wash Park (Alameda and Pennsylvania). They have only been open for about six months. Especially since Le Central closed a few years ago, Denver should warmly embrace this great new affordable French bistro! Happy hour is amazing! (M-F 4PM-6PM) We set a reservation for 6 p.m., but got there about 20 minutes early. Discounts include half-off bottles of wine, and $10 shareable appetizers! (Get the mussels!) Wine: they have a great selection of French wines at an affordable price point, especially when they're half off! We tried a full-bodied Cab-Sav from the Bordeaux region. It was excellent! The wait staff was very attentive and helped make some great recommendations. We settled on sharing the moules at frites prepared in a garlic cream sauce. The mussels tasted very fresh, and the sauce hit the spot! They also offer a tomato sauce version. The fries were thin and crisp served with a mayonnaise sauce, Belgian-style. The mussels are one of the things I miss the most about Le Central, but Bon Ami does an excellent job. Bob ordered a cup of French onion soup. He really liked the flavor! You can tell they spend a lot of tender loving care in that complex recipe! Aside from the major French staples including Boef Bourginion, Bon Ami offers a very healthy selection of crepes that can be eaten as a full sized entree. Bob ordered the Cordon Bleu crepe served in a mornay sauce, while Travis ordered the La Merise crepe which was filled with beef tenderloin covered in a gruyere cheese sauce. We all agreed that Travis' selection was the best crepe of the two. I ordered the beef tips entree. I asked for the beef to be cooked rare, and the chef did a great job! It was served like a stew in a red wine, mushroom and cream sauce, pairing nicely with extra creamy and fluffy mashed potatoes along sauteed vegetables. Very lovely French restaurant with cute inside decor. Found this place on Yelp and it has been on my bucket list forever. Upon walking in, what impressed me the most was the fun vibe in the patio area. It was kinda full with guests enjoying their drinks and conversations. Very casual, warm and fun atmosphere. The inside area was not big and we were seated by the open kitchen area. Cute little pocket of the dining floor there. We decided to order the duck Rillettes, the Fisherman's Stew, and the Escargots. The winner went to the duck Rillettes as it was really delicious and no smell at all. I think I had experiences in the past somewhere else that duck dishes were a bit smelly. This one was paired well with the crackers and pickles. The Fisherman's Stew was pretty good but my personal opinion was the soup was a bit too peppery. Good flavor though. The Escargots were not bad but at the same time not much special compared to the other French restaurants. The strawberry Tres Leches was absolutely amazing. There wasn't anything on the menu about gluten free substitions but I asked and turns out they do make gluten free crepes! I ordered the nice crepe (gluten free) and the kitchen made a different sauce than the one it came with because the one it came with had flour in it. The waitress was very accommodating and helpful! The nice crepe was soooooooo good and whatever gluten free sauce they made to go with it was delicious. We enjoyed two wonderful meals on a chilly winter evening at Bon Ami! Restaurant is quaint with attentive waiter. The French Onion soup was wonderful, topped with tons of cheese and flavor. The Beef Bourguignon was one of the best dishes I've ever tasted. The sauce was packed with flavor, I don't even like carrots and I couldn't help but to eat them all. The description had me at "bacon lardons" and the outcome of the dish did not disappoint! Also had the pork medallions which had a sweet and savory sauce (want to say peach or apple and dried cherries) and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. Mashed potatoes were whipped and perfect excuse to eat every drop of the sauce. Very solid neighborhood bistro with flavorful and thoughtful food and a well trained front of house. When I walked in here with my family of 4, I wasn't sure what to expect. I made a reservation last minute, we ate out on a whim, we love French cuisine, so we figured why not? We were greeted with a lovy and cozy restaurant with a kitchen that is somewhat open, and friendly servers who took care of us all night. As far as food goes, I recommend the Onion Soup, whichever crepe you fancy, and I also recommend the Parisian Chicken - a pounded thin chicken breast hand breaded and pan fried, served with a cream sauce, mashed potatoes, artichoke, and other seasonal vegetables. To me it's all cooking that comes from the heart. On the kids side of things, they do have high chairs and a kids menu. My kids enjoyed both the chicken fingers and fries, and the ham and cheese crepe. Although we were super full, we also did the Strawberries and Tres Leches crepe for dessert. It is a folded crepe with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and a tres leches sauce on it as well. Maybe not the most French, but definitely an awesome dessert. Outside of the food, what sets this place apart from many is the service. The front of house is well trained and friendly; something many restaurants, even the high end ones in town, are lacking. Cute and refreshing. Glad to have this new addition to the Washington Park neighborhood. Both similar and different to Cafe Marmotte about 8 blocks away, Bon Ami offers french style dining with a focus on their savory crepes. The restaurant has a very relaxed vibe. The interior deco is modern and classy, with a cute patio perfect for a weekend al fresco brunch. I got the lox crepe and my husband got the french toast. All food came out quickly with neat arrangements. Portion is appropriate but do not expect to have leftovers to take home. I love how they put some creamy soup on top of the lox crepe to buffer out perfectly the saltiness from the smoked salmon and pickled caper. Both hubby and I gave the french toast a "Whoa". The breads were toasted to be slightly crunchy on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside, with just the right amount of brown sugar and cinnamon added. Our waitress was attentive and this may or may not be a coincidence: she had her hair in a very french-looking messy bun. We paid around $20 per person including tax and tips. Still in search of a more authentic French restaurant in Denver we tried this new spot in Wash Park. When you first walk in your senses are greeted with wonderful French aromas! It was restaurant week however we decided to dine off the main menu. We started with the mussels that were divinely cooked in a rich white garlicky sauce. Once the muscles were gone we sopped up the remaining sauce with our bread. Then we shared an amazing bowl of French Onion Soup that did not disappoint. Our next adventure was to share a seafood crepe which was perfectly cooked and tasted better than I had imagined. Then we split a beef bourgeois that was so tender it melted in your mouth along with the perfectly whipped potatoes. Love this French bistro. I rank it over other French choices in Denver. I've tended to lean to the savory crepe choices for lunch. Favorites are the seafood crepe, the lox crepe, the merise crepe (beef and cheese), and Monte Christo crepe ( ham and bechamel sauce). For dinner the steak frites are great but I also really like the fisherman's stew. They make a nice Nicoise salad as well. Parking on Pennsylvania can be sparse so allowing for a short walk after finding a spot is a good idea. read more

Came here for brunch and bottomless mimosas. Delicious crepes! Many options as well as other brunch items like French toast or omelettes. I had the Merise crepe with egg and some beef tips and a delicious creamy sauce over the top. It's filling and but not too heavy. They have a great patio and the interior decor is great! Sadly this place has so much potential but extremely lazy staff and the owner or manager is beyond rude. I reached out about our dining experience and am floored by their response. We spent a ton money here and the response was nothing short of the same experience we received in house.....lacking, just lacking!! I'm giving three star due to food only. Created a Yelp account to leave this review... We sat down at 5:40pm today (12/28), 20 minutes before happy hour ended. Our server finally came to our table at 5:58pm and since we had waited and it was technically before 6pm, we assumed the server would allow us to order at happy hour prices. Once we get to ordering, its exactly 6pm. The server states we cannot get happy hour prices. I was pretty shocked at this level of customer service even after reiterating the situation, that we've been sitting with no service for 20 minutes and rightfully assumed they'd honor that given their lateness. But no, not even an attempt was made. No manager was called to bypass the PoS system which is a simple override. In an effort to avoid friction, we didn't press the issue. Just think, if they'd been reasonable about their policy and the context, they'd have won our loyalty at the cost of 2 half-priced appetizers and a cheap bottle of wine. However this server chose to lose our business forever and were unabashedly unapologetic, later saying "No one gets to skirt the rules". One person at our table ordered a beer and the busboy pouring the beer looked like they'd never touched a beer before. The glass was 90% foam. The night was followed by pleasant service from our waiter but it was immediately clear how much these waiters and staff truly hated each other and their constant snide, quiet bickering between themselves was palpable. The food was average at best. There are many other Denver-area French restaurants that blow this place out of the water, Atelier for one. As an aside, we entered behind a party of 4 men who were unmasked and no staff reminded them of the mask mandate. As I walked over to leave, I had my mask to the side for a moment to adjust when the bartender loudly chided me to put my mask on, literally as I was opening the door to leave. They may not have noticed the 4 men but it was odd how they were caucasian and I am not - not explicitly stating bias here, but definitely implying it. Overall, others seem to have pleasant experiences here and I won't refute them. But the service and strangeness we encountered tonight was jarring and we'll never step foot in this place again. read more

We went to Bon Ami for Sunday brunch and had such a lovely afternoon. The patio which is well shaded by bright umbrellas made for a great setting. Our waitress was new and did a fantastic job. We started with the bottomless mimosas which come with a huge first glass! We of course saved room for one more round. They were the perfect balance of orange juice and champagne. The menu is quite extensive with many different savory crepes with tons of options for fillings. I went with the omelet with cheese, ham and peppers with a side salad. The portion was very filling and at a fair price of around $13-$15. We unfortunately did not save room for dessert but I would love to go back to try those sweet crepes. read more

I ordered the crab benedict crepe. The eggs were like hard boiled eggs. The crab was old and tasted awful. The cheese in the crepe was overcooked until it was like leather and hopelessly stuck to the plate and the tomato garlic sauce was the consistency of the night before tomato soup that was so thick a spoon could stand up in it. My husband's crepe, the St Louis was suppose to have a bechamel sauce on it but was hard to find. It had desiccated under a heat lamp. I could go on but why bother. We didn't have a reservation and walked in for dinner. There were tables empty and we were told they were waiting for reservation. My husband and I were okay with that. However, we we then told, "See you next time!" Then we were waved out of the door. At any restaurant I've ever been to when we didn't have a reservation and a reservation isn't required, hosts/hostesses usually ask if we'd like to wait for a specified time. I love French cuisine so I was very happy to see this restaurant listed during Restaurant Week. Parking could be an issue as it is shared with the neighborhood. We were fortunate to find a space half a block away at 5:30 pm but can imagine quite the hike later on in the evening. We requested a table near the back of the restaurant, away from the draft of the door. That proved to be a little hot as we were next to the kitchen! But the atmosphere is very cozy. We looked at the wine list and since we were ordering before 6:00 pm were told that bottles of wine were half price at that time. Yay! We ordered a $24 bottle of the house wine. When our waitress, Vita, brought it to our table she then told us it would be full price because we were ordering off the Restaurant Week menu! For appetizers, I ordered the French onion soup au gratin and my husband ordered the mussels. The onions in the soup were beautifully caramelized with a load of nicely browned cheese on top. The mussels were cooked in a lovely garlic cream white wine sauce topped with herbs, perfect for sopping up with crusty French bread. For our entrees, I ordered the seafood crepe. It was full of a wonderful blend of tender tiger shrimp, crab meat, and gruyere cheese topped with a tomato garlic sauce and asparagus. Delicious! My husband ordered the beef bourguignon in red wine and veal demi-glacé with vegetables, mushrooms, bacon, mashed potatoes and topped with herbs. Very tender and flavorful. My husband asked about the green herbs that were on top of the mussels and beef to see if they are radish sprouts. The waitress said they were "micro herbs", just little herbs. We later found out that they were radish sprouts as my husband is allergic! For dessert my husband had the strawberry and tres leches crepe and I had the creme brûlée. The creme brûlée was the best I have ever had. Wonderful creamy texture with the sugar just barely seared to form a delicate, delicious crust. The chef and the food deserve a 5-star rating. Everything was outstanding! The waitress should be knowledgeable about the drink prices during special events. She should also be knowledgeable of the ingredients, including "micro herbs" such as radish sprouts! This allergy caused my husband to have a very bad night and luckily it wasn't life-threatening! read more
