I was impressed with this bake shop! I stumbled into it as I was looking for somewhere to get a chicken pot pie, but found a couple of other good things while I was here. I tried the hot and read buffalo chicken sandwich, and the pork green chile. I thought both were good. Definitely more emphasis on the bread in these than you would get somewhere else, but that is to be expected with it being a pie shop. I liked the pork a little bit more. They were more filling than I expected but also I didn't think about how much bread there was until after. Also got the key lime pie for dessert later in the day which I loved. Good amount of whipped cream, and had great flavor. Not too crumbly on the crust either. And finally I did get the take and bake chicken pot pie. Which I thought was excellent. Fair value for the size, I think. The large got me 3 meals but probably could have stretched it to 4. But it was so good that I just kept eating more. This place was at the top of my list to revisit after moving back to Denver. I panicked for a brief moment thinking they closed but the name just changed from Colorado Cherry Co. (thank baby Jesus). Everything I've tried is amazing but the chicken pot pie and cherry pie are my repeat go-to. Just walking in and getting hit in the face with the smell of fresh baked goods makes me happy. We first went to the Colorado Cherry Company in Loveland, Co. We got a great taste of the Cherry Pie! That slice was memorable. So, the next time I was back in the Denver area, I knew I wanted to get another Cherry Pie but didn't want to drive to Loveland. I opted to drive to Northwest Denver. I bought a Cutie Tart Cherry, a Cherry Hand Pie, & a Mini Apple Bourbon Caramel Pie the night before I flew back home to Los Angeles. I took the Cherry Pies with me and shared them with my husband the next afternoon. I was surprised that we both preferred the Hand Pie! I was certain the Cutie Pie would be better. One disclaimer for this review is that I'm not a huge pie guy but do enjoy an occasional savory pie. Their chicken pot pie hit the spot! The crust is flaky and buttery and was not soggy when broken into. The gravy and filling is very savory with shredded chicken pieces. The pie was piping hot and fresh! I can't seem to get enough of this hand pie shop lately. It was only a few weeks ago when I made a quick stop at this place early in the morning to grab a few savory ones. Today's on a chilly Saturday afternoon, this Sunnyside neighborhood was busy with so many people doing their out and about, street parking was almost impossible. Once I managed to find a spot to park my car several blocks away, I rushed to this place to get me a few of those savory ones to satisfy my mid afternoon hunger. This shop is always clean and adorable. Service is also always good and friendly. The lady behind the counter was very patient with me while I was being indecisive (lol!!) What I got me today were Pork one and the veggie curry one. Like I have tasted several different savory ones in the past the pies were nice and flaky. Dense and yet never oily. What's in the center of each pie was so flavorful. They just simply make the bestest hand pies in town. The remedy to my hunger was instant. It's been a year since I did a review here. It continues to be an amazing place for pie! Such a sweet spot with sweet people ! Ash is so sweet and helped us out today. I used some coupon deals we had and she was so patient and kind to both Ryan and I ! We are at home enjoying our caramel apple pie and tart cherry pie and I even ran back inside before we left to buy some vanilla ice cream to go with it. If you're looking for the best pies you've ever had in your life, they're here at Legacy Pie Co. You may think this is a dramatic statement, but my husband and I love this place. We visited the area for the whole month in January and bought 13 items over the course of that time. We couldn't get enough! Even took a pie on the road-trip with us to go back home. Fast forward to a couple months later and a big move to the state, we had to revisit our favorite pie spot! The staff members are always so warm, welcoming and friendly and the place is impeccably clean. They bake their pies fresh in the back so you know once you step in the door, the aroma is heavenly. There are even frozen pies in the fridge off to the side so you can take and bake them yourself at home for later! The selection is amazing and you can't go wrong with any of the daily and seasonal flavors. The crust is dangerously good - so flakey and buttery! We were able to get our hands on a Strawberry Rhubarb yesterday when we stopped by and I honestly don't have the words to continue talking about how these are the best pies ever. I was finally able to stop by this place!! Meeting a colleague and his wife near here to drop off gifts for them, gave me a reason to visit this strip. The shop is really cute and clean. They have a lot of flavors from sweet to savory. They have different sizes of pies from regular sized to mini sized to hand pies. I wished I had all the money in the world to buy each and every one that day. Lol. I ended up buying 1 cutie key lime pie, 1 apple hand pie, and 1 savory green chile pie. Dang it! It was so darn scrumptious. The sweet pies were not overly sweet. Just perfect. The savory pie was absolutely delicious. The pies were full of fillings and you can actually taste what's in it. If you are looking for a place to get your pie fix, Legacy Pie is it! Run to get their Wild Maine Blueberry Pie. No one ever uses Maine blueberries, and they are so much better in a pie than regular ones. We have done the take and bake twice and they turned out delicious, and are so easy to bake. We tried cherry last time and that was great too. You can do mini pies as well, but if you want a few days worth of dessert, go for the larger size. Like the "break the ice" question is "you get one dessert - Cake or pie, which do you choose - Cherry pie, who would have cake when you can have pie?" Since what used to be my favorite Denver pie place closed (won't tell you what that was ....too sad), I have been on the hunt for the best pie. A niece brought a Legacy Pie Cherry Pie to a dinner party at our house and BANG. Now, there are several other killer artisan pie places in Denver (I may have reviewed one elsewhere in Yelp). Like Legacy, those places crush pies, BUT Legacy has THE BEST Cherry Pie I have found. Critically, they use Montmorency cherries. IMHO cherry pie should have to have Montmorency cherries to be a true cherry pie. Ok, fine, call it a "tart" cherry pie vs a "cherry" that isn't tart, but come on, everyone who wants a cherry pie wants a tart/sweet Montmorency cherry pie. Ok, I will get off the pedestal BUT in addition to the "right" cherries in the pie, it is awesome. Not "gel" like, it is the way you want the filling. The crust is awesome (I would prefer lattice, but I recognize it is way easier to make pies with all the same top.) (We got a 10" frozen one to bake later). We also got an Apple Caramel and Key Lime (I accidentally turned the Key Lime upside down, so the top is a little mangled) . (See photos) The fruit pies are killer, but also the savory ones! We got a "cornbread bison chili" pie and it was INSANE!! Get this pie and don't share. Amazing. Sorry no photos, we ate the whole thing in the car on the way home. My Sweetheart thoroughly enjoys the French silk and I tend to prefer the caramel apple bourbon.....so yummy. The service is quick, staff always friendly and helpful. The shop is just the right size with a few tables to enjoy your selection on site if you'd like. Only drawback is the parking situation. Yum! Sour cherry pies at Legacy Pie Co.! Cherries have been a large presence for Jamie and I for the past 20 years. We have harvested and pitted large quantities of sour cherries. Over the past 4 years we have taken an easier approach - buying 80 lbs of pitted cherries. We have been getting mostly Balaton and some Montmorency. Both are great. We've been enjoying the Balaton the most. So, we were so excited to find Legacy Pie Co with their focus on pies, particularly Cherry Pies. We had the Cherry Streusel and it was fantastic. The cherries were delicious and chewy. Hmmm! Just thinking about them and writing this post makes my mouth water! Staff here are friendly and welcoming. I always bring a Legacy Pie, usually cherry, to familyget-togethers. I've never had a bad experience up till now, and everybody likes pie, including me. I picked up the tart cherry pie that I pre-ordered, the Saturday before Easter. I was hoping it was OK although it lacked the sugar crystals that are usually on top of their fresh pies. Brought it to the table after the Easter meal, and I had a terrible time cutting through the bottom and the edge. Hard as a rock. The upper crust was just kind of limp. Ended up having a bit of a tense situation as people were nudging me offering to help, like I couldn't cut the dang pie. Embarrassing. I think the pie was several days old, at least. Note to self and everyone else, on the next popular pie holiday, pre- order a frozen pie and take it home and bake it yourself. That way you know it will be fresh, with a delicate crust. Don't get me wrong, I love Legacy Pie, and pie in general. I'll just use a different method next time for ordering preparation on a holiday. I will say that my pie was ready to go when I picked it up at the appointed time, which I appreciated. And the little cherry hand pie that I also bought was delicious, as was the French silk mini. I have to say I was extremely impressed by my experience at Legacy Pie. The store is super clean and bright and the pies all looked amazing. We took home some handheld pies- the sausage and hash brown and the loaded veggie. Both are delicious. The crust is so flaky and good. I promised my son that after his first day of school in a couple of weeks, he and I'll go back for a pie treat because he was really disappointed that we didn't get any "sugar pies".
