Genovese
Farhana M.

One sandwich is easily two! Huge portions, I got the Genovese and asked for it to be gluten free. This meant a gluten free focaccia, and omitting the crispy onions. I added smoked mozzarella instead and the included chips are fried in the same fryer as gluten things so I opted out from getting chips. My order took a few minutes longer than the rest of my group but that's because everything gluten free is prepped separately and i appreciate that so much. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Thank you for the safe eating experience! And the sandwich was delicious as well, but definitely have extra napkins and maybe a fork cuz the sauce makes the bread extra collapsible.

Store

This place is incredible, and I want them to stay in the neighborhood! Incredible menu that is REASONABLE. They've got breakfast sandwiches, fresh pastas, SO many sandwiches (which come with fresh, delicate, homemade potato chips - I mean come on!), and pizzas. They also have coffee and pastries. CHECK IT OUT. Fresh, light focaccia. Fresh ingredients. Big sandwiches at reasonable prices. This place is A+! The people are nice and the service is good. There are tables and seats for eating in, too.

Eggplant parm

The "eggplant parmigiana" sandwich was a lukewarm mushy eggplant salad in bread. Not fried, not snappy, no cheese.

I haven't tried them all, obviously -- too many coffee shops -- but what I have tried, and come back to, over and over, is the products of the amazing team at Posto. It's not just about the skillfully made drinks or the balance of flavors, the fresh, Italian-style coffee or the filled-to-order Italian donuts and Maritozzos (iykyk) -- it's the overall ambience. You come here to put down the screen and enjoy the moment. So often do we rush through our coffees, or even bring them to meetings, at the beck and call of the city's hustle. But at Posto the kind, talented, customer-first team asks you to slow down and escape all of that, to savor every sip of coffee in the classic Italian style. Walking in feels more like a poem than a cafe. Gone are the transactional, disingenuous "how are you's" and instead you get to discover all sorts of fun barista (and bar) creations, Tuscan products, and fresh pasta. The servers and owner are always read to provide a recommendation, and like in Italian cafes, they bring whatever treats and drinks you land on to you. (My favorite aperol spritz is also from Posto.) Outside, the peaceful garden hosts two large umbrellas. It's vibrant, as if you're in a neighbor's backyard and they are willing to share a colorful moment with you, birds chirping overhead. As I finished the last drop of my cappuccino this morning, I realized that forty-five minutes had passed, and every sip of coffee was just as good as the last. Thank you!

The calamari and shrimp were perfectly crispy, although I wish the portion included more than two shrimp. For drinks, I ordered the Lavinia, and it was excellent--a refreshing blend of tequila, lime, orange, and a nice touch of honey. For my entrée, I had the grilled pork chops, which were cooked perfectly. The pistachio gremolata added a unique burst of flavor that really elevated the dish. My friends ordered a variety of pasta dishes, which I tried and tasted good, and everyone enjoyed their meals. We ended with dessert and tried both the traditional tiramisu, which was very good, and the budino--a butterscotch pudding with pistachio gelato--which completely stole the show. It was absolutely amazing. Overall, a great dining experience, and I'd definitely return.

Hero roll? Seeded bread? Whatever you're in the mood for. And considering how many other great neighborhood sandwich shops use Caputo's bread, you really can't go wrong. I ordered the mixed vegetable sandwich with wood-fired eggplant, artichokes, fresh mozzarella, and balsamic vinegar. Absolutely delicious. The portions are generous, too. One sandwich easily fed two of us, and even with drinks and chips, everything was very affordable. If you want to know what Carroll Gardens truly tastes and feels like, come to Caputo's.
