Another great place on the Augusta Riverwalk. They have a nice selection of food that won't make you feel stuffed so you can continue your walk/bike ride. The perfect portion sizing. The desserts are nice if you really are looking for something sweet. You can even just stop in and get the dessert to go. Wait time for that is only about 2 minutes! My mail order husband and I came in here on a whim. Short Version: Let's cut to the chase- this deserves 4, not what is current, the 3.5 stars. Here's why: great beer selection (we got the flight), memorable Shrimp & Grits, and delightful cakes. Just say yes. Long Version: Friendly and open atmosphere. Windows have an open feel to them and the blinds are accessible. Look at the cakes before you sit down! Both of the cakes we ordered (Chocolate-covered Banana and Strawberry) were similar in texture, design, and density yet they tasted different as expected. Can't complain about cakes if you're looking for diabetes or if your goal is to make your cute husband look fat to detract other females. Service is agreeable, knowledgable, and prompt. Beer flight comes in mini cute glasses. After the beer flight, came naturally, the bathroom. Bathrooms are co-ed and have humorous signs. Tomato soup was borderline too sweet and made us think of carrot baby food. Crackers were surprisingly toasted and dusted with parsley. Moving on to the main entree. Shrimp and grits had a few crab samples sprinkled through the grits. A handful of shrimp surrounded the bowl. Could've used more shrimp as opposed to crab but the flavor was magical. Did not think of grits upon consumption. Cakes- great flavor! Chocolate-covered banana was sort of like banana pudding in a cake. Outer layer covered thick with chocolate chips- YUM. Frosting/icing was tasty, but overwhelming because it was too thick (perhaps more whip cream? I'm not a baker). Strawberry cake makes me think of strawberry shortcake with actual fresh strawberries with strawberry sauce- feels like my summer childhood. read more

The cake is what you come to Boll Weevil for and the staff is great. However, the food is secondary and not the best in the city by far. If you're like me and like a cup of coffee with your dessert get your dessert to go and grab your coffee somewhere else. That's one thing they could easily improve on. Came here for dessert, we had Coffee Toffee chocolate cake, 7th Heaven chocolate cake, and New York Style cheesecake with strawberries. The cakes were ok, but not the best. We were expecting fresh cake, but got a refrigerated version. Maybe if they were at room temperature they would have been better. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was ok. Overall we will return, and hopefully they will have red velvet cake so we can try it. read more

My wife and I went to the Boll Weevil after my visit with my doctor. Lungs are almost normal. I ordered the Cuban Panini with pasta salad. I had fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. Sharon had the Rubin Panani with corn soup. The food was outstanding. We took cake home and half my sandwich. The cakes were Heavenly. They weighted a ton. Service was great. My boyfriend took me here since he said it has really good desserts. Obviously I was super excited since I have a huge sweet tooth. Came around 3 or 4 on a Friday to celebrate and it was slightly busy. It was a small place with a narrow entry way containing a few steps, a little inconvenient if you're not paying attention. We got seated immediately and went to the display case to check out all the desserts. We ordered fours things: key lime pie, velvet delight, canary lemon, and strawberry. The key lime pie really gives you the citrus flavor which is a good balance with the sweetness. The strawberry one was good but the frosting was a little on the harder side as if it had been sitting there to defrost. The canary lemon was great! It had the right amount of lemon taste but not too much that it overpowers everything. The frosting was on the sweeter side since it was a thicker layer. The red velvet is a MUST! It's red velvet cake with a layer of cheesecake in between with cream cheese frosting. The ratio of cake to cheesecake to frosting is on point. I would love to give this place 5 stars! I've gotten takeout in the past and the food was delicious.. the desserts Devine. However, stopped in today for lunch and told the waitress we wanted to dine in. She was a little flustered taking care of another order and so we waited patiently. She flitted past us several times and another group walked in. She immediately took them to a table, never acknowledging us. When she returned, we stated that we ALSO would like to be seated. Her response..."no need to be rude about it" snatched up menus , and walked away. I guess she thought we'd follow. We turned around and walked out. The place was EMPTY... unfortunately, we will never be back solely because of a little red haired hostess. Went here to celebrate my birthday. I had heard good things about their jerk salad and desserts. I wasn't in the mood for jerk salad, so I decided on a half order of Bubba Nachos. I was so disappointed in the nachos. The chili was a little sweet. It had a little kick but lack the "chili" taste. I got an order of gumbo to go, and was equally disappointed with this. The texture and taste reminded me more of chicken and dumplings than gumbo. As disappointed as I was with the food, I was really pleased with the dessert: cappuccino tiramisu, which really is why it got a 3-star rating. It was DELICIOUS, and I would go again just for this. It reminded me of a cheesecake but with a kick of cappuccino and espresso. So, if you go to the Boll Weevil, I would recommend skipping the food and going straight for the dessert. My next craving for sweets may have me back here to satisfy my sweet tooth. read more

Took most of it home and by that night it was not even edible it was so hard. My friend got the tropical something cake and she liked it but she also likes Waffle House so go figure. Let them eat cake! I was warned that the cake pieces are huge, so I ordered a tiny half salad to start. It was pretty standard. The grilled shrimp on top was extra, but very yummy. For dessert, I decided on the carrot cake which was delicious! They had an array of choices and there was something for everyone (red velvet, double chocolate, hummingbird, lemon, etc.). Slices are ENORMOUS. I would say to split a piece or take half home to enjoy later. Service was excellent. Our server was very attentive and sweet. Food was quick to come out and she made sure to check in on us frequently. As many other reviewers noted, this restaurant needs a serious overhaul. The inside was a bit of a mess. Nice hole in the wall feel to the restaurant. It has a bar right as you walk in so you can grab a drink if you have to wait to be seated.

Corn chowder was great, peanut butter pie was great. Not the best turtle cheesecake, needed smaller chunks of pecans and more caramel. Shrimp and grits was 4 stars, just needed a little salt and maybe some scallions and or bacon. Service was quick! read more

Best place to get a slice of cake! I used to go there all the time during my college days with friends when we have a sugar craving. A slice of cake is about $7-$8 dollars but it's worth it. The slices are HUGE! It took me two days to eat the red velvet/cheese cake slice. I also got the Perfect Chocolate Cake to go and the slice was to big that they had to cut it in half to fit into the container. They have very reasonable portions for non dessert items. Absolutely disappointing. Went for a birthday dinner and the menu had been cut back shorter than ever. They had no ice for any of our drinks, so we were served water tea and warm coke and tap water. Most of the food was already served before they told my wife that they were out of the soup that she ordered. We got here for a 6 PM reservation before going to see Avenue Q at Le Chat Noir. There is parking in the back - though we parked in the free spots in the center of Broad Streed which put us halfway between Boll Weevil and the theater. We got Appetizers - Fried Green Tomatoes and Bubba Nachos. Nothing special with the nachos. I did like the Tomatoes - but I like FGT. I am not sure these would win over someone who was ambivalent, but they were good for me. Salads were so-so. For the meals, my wife got the Salmon, my friend got the burger, his wife got the portabella and I got the Rueben. There were quite a few items on the menu I would have enjoyed - but I have been on a Rueben kick lately. The sandwich was good, but not great. The sauerkraut, cheese, and thousand island tastes didn't come through at all - though they were saved by the corned beef, which was delicious. Our server was a but inattentive - we probably could have used quicker refills on drinks, better recognition that we needed more paper towels and new sets of flatware, small plates for the appetizers, etc. Even the menu was a but dirty (with a piece of cake stuck to it. At dessert we we each split the canary lemon cake and red velvet cake. Both were very good, moist, sweet and yummy - and definitely big enough for 2 people to share. read more
