One word for you: dessert. The part of the name that is "sweetery"? Yeah, save room for dessert. I had the turkey and rice soup here for lunch one day when I had a pretty bad cold, and it was soothing and exactly what I needed. What really blew me away though was when I brought my partner back for dessert. (Which conveniently made for a decent excuse to try 2 different cakes!) The slices of cake are huge! You could definitely share it and be satisfied, if you wanted to, but we wanted to try more things. We tried the 7th Heaven and Banana Chocolate Chip, which we both loved. You could really taste the banana flavor in the Banana Chocolate Chip one. I loved the richness of the frosting and cheesecake in the middle of the 7th Heaven. This is a review for the dessert only! We came here as it was recommended by a local. Yes the place is a little drab and kind of stinky but MAN they make a delicious pie! Based on the yelp reviews and pictures, and what I personally like, we got the peanut butter cup pie (I forgot the exact name). The pie had more of a consistency of a cheesecake--very smooth and buttery. I think we ate 5 sticks of butter between me and my manz. It was very enjoyable until he chuckled and said, we probably ate 2000 calories right here! I immediately felt remorse and sadness. Looking back at it though (and yes I do look at the picture of the pie that I took, longingly), it was worth it. The restaurant was alittle run down on the inside but the food was good and dessert was scrumptious! We ordered half sandwhiches, I had the Rueben and a salad. The Reuben was alittle dry and flavorless, it needed more dressing and sauerkraut but was still good. The salad was fresh and I loved the mixed greens! Very pleased with our lunch! Dessert was Peanut Butter Pie which was amazing! I'm sure all their desserts are to die for. My only disappointment is there is nothing unique here. This is the place to have your cake and eat it too. The decor inside is fairly low key and casual, and while they have a full menu, I advise coming here for the cakes; it is what they are known for! While a little pricey for a slice, if you compare this quality to a supermarket cake - trust me, there is no comparison. It is worth having a little decadent treat. P.s. Sometimes if i'm in the area I'll just stop by for a slice of cake to go! They have the best cakes ever! I've had my share of red velvet cakes and this is probably the best one yet! Their Island or Caribbean cake is my absolute favorite! It has pineapple, coconut, and love... lol I did have dinner here but the cakes blew my dinner out the water. Not well organized but excellent cake and tasty food. When we went, they had closed their takeout room (didn't ask why) so the waiting area was congested but everyone was complying with the mask policy. Amazing! If you're in the area, GO. I had the Canary Lemon Cake (pictured) and it was so moist and rich. The cream cheese icing is the smoothest, creamiest I've ever had... and I've had a lot. The lemon curd on top and between the cake layers was the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Hands down, the best lemon cake I've ever had. We were in town for the weekend for a canoeing trip and was looking for a place to eat. A search shower the Boll Weevil and we decide to try it. Glad we did. The food was fresh and plentiful. Our waiter "Pancake" was very attentive and friendly. We all had different plates and shared our food. After eating to full capacity we decided to order dessert also a good decision. The choices were many. We ended up ordering 6 pieces of cake among the 4 of us. At the end our bill for two plates and 3 abundant pieces of cake was only $57.00 not expensive at all for the quantity and quality of the food. If your in the area give it a try. read more

So ... We went here after we read the reviews ... The food is excellent we had the fried green tomatoes, sliders, jerk chicken sandwich, gumbo and the kids had grilled cheese which all was excellent. Problem is the girl that was serving us had no idea who had what. There were only 4 of us, 2 of us children and they had the same thing. The seafood biscue wasn't ver y good and my husband sent it back and tried the tomato-Apple which he was surprised to find he really liked! (Just 2 tastes we wouldn't typically put together) the salad was mediocre at best the vegetables were a bit dried out. My husband ordered the jambalaya which lacked some flavor but he is from Louisiana so.... I ordered the steak and it was flavored extensively with pepper and a bit rubbery. Long story short- come for the dessert, pass on the food. Their cakes, cheesecakes,and press are legendary and you can even get them to go. You can't go wrong with the red velvet cake, 7th heaven cake, or hummingbird cake! My personal favorite is the banana chocolate chip. I've been here twice for lunch and both times were disappointing. Today I had a black bean burger which tasted like it was straight out of a box and it came with chips or pasta salad. I opted for the chips which turned out to be a ruffles like chip. My friend got the Curious George and pasta salad. The ended up scraping lots of the Spinach artichoke dip off because it was a odd consistency and they said they didn't like the pasta salad because it was so salty. Still 5 stars for the red velvet cake. Absolutely amazing. 3 stars for the strawberry cake and the tropical dream. Both cakes are not nearly as moist. Strawberry- The strawberry cake tastes like, well, strawberries, and kind of reminded me of the boxed kind you can get at walmart a bit. Tropical dream - tastes like the beach. Cake isn't as moist either and the cake itself is very chunky with pineapples and coconut. The "cream cheese frosting" didn't really taste like cream cheese, and it was filled with coconut flakes. I ate here on a weekday night with a group of six. We were seated immediately, but I did notice it was busy. Our waiter showed up and got us our drinks right away; he was a very friendly person the whole time. Unfortunately we barely got refills throughout the night. He never brought out the silverware so we didn't eat for five minutes in the beginning of our dinner. Food came out in piecemeal fashion; some of us had to wait fifteen minutes after the others. Food got cold waiting! I ordered the shrimp and grits; it was delicious because the shrimps were big and cooked well, the grits were smooth and buttery, and the dish was well portioned. The canary lemon cake is very tart and has a mellow sweetness to it. The frosting isn't overpowering either. It's such a large slice that I had it as a leftover the next day and was still good. Love EVERYTHING about this place! The history printed on the menu is fascinating, the staff are soo friendly and ALL take proper precautions with COVID. No one was seen with their mask below their noses or masks off when they thought no one was looking (as seen in other places). They offer options for those who do not have/choose to wear masks in a way that's respectful and keeps all safe. We got the fried green tomato blt which was soo good but my favorite was the turkey soup OMG I would love to have the recipe! We left with a slice of 7th heaven cake which my boyfriend who doesn't even like sweets had to stop himself from devouring. We do enjoyed all of the little details like the local artwork on the walls, good music playing, cleaning between customers, and local handmade candles. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be back next time we're in Augusta! read more

I've heard about their cakes for years and thought everyone was just exaggerating. Boy, was I wrong! I've only had the 7th Heaven cake and cheesecake but it's seriously the best I've ever had. I have literally never gotten a refill I haven't had to ask for several times. The wait staff are young, cool, and possibly not real interested in waiting tables. Wow. So Boll Weevil was a bad gift that just kept on giving. Six of us dined at Boll Weevil on a Friday night before going to a concert at the amphitheater a block away (five of us were sick the next day.) I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they were unaware that 1,000+/- people would be walking by their restaurant on their way to a show, but to be a Friday night and be unprepared for Friday dinner rush is pretty silly. When we came in the dining room was rather empty, but they still had a 20min wait. This is at 6:20 on a Friday night. We decided to belly up at the bar. The bartender seemed a bit out of it. Each of us had to repeat our drink orders. Then time to order food. That was a hole other ordeal. Not sure if she was high or what, but dang girl get it together! All but one of us ordered sandwiches and one ordered a pasta dish. I had the grown up grilled cheese. Two pieces of limp bacon on what seemed like ruth's pimento cheese. Burnt bread, but the inside was cold and not melted. I didn't even finish half. Worst grilled cheese ever. My wife's Ruben was just off. Same burnt bread, but inside not heated through. Others weren't thrilled with theirs either, but we had a show to get to so we suffered silently, but to say the least the food left a lot to be desired. As I said in the opener, all but one of us had stomach issues the next day. My wife's started that night (throwing up.) We were both sidelined in the bathroom all day Saturday. Wife's best friend was sick from both ends too. 5 out of 6 all eating sandwiches and all got sick. Not sure if the cook didn't wash his hands, cross contaminated, or what. Wasn't a virus that got passed in a car cause we all drove separate. Only common denominator was Boll Weevil. read more
