Lunch in downtown Augusta can go in a lot of directions, but today we wanted something inexpensive, local in spirit, and fresh enough to feel like a small reset in the middle of the day. Yelp nudged us toward New Moon Cafe, and while the signage from the street is minimal enough that we almost walked past it, we eventually found our way inside and were glad we did. At 12:30 on a Saturday the timing worked in our favor. We stepped right up to the counter with no queue at all, placed our order, and settled in. By the time our food arrived about fifteen minutes later, the line had grown to the point where people were waiting nearly that long just to order, which gave the whole place that lively, slightly chaotic weekend energy without ever feeling rushed. Mrs. K chose the smoked salmon bagel, which came out panini pressed, a small twist on a classic that she enjoyed. I am still keeping things keto, so the chef's salad with blue cheese was exactly what I needed, a generous portion that felt balanced and satisfying without pushing me off track. They offer plenty of coffee drinks and smoothie combinations, but we kept things simple and were perfectly happy with our choices. Came on a super busy day for the crew on Ironman race day. The crew worked so hard and was patient and kind with customers even though they were so busy. This place has an excellent menu with breakfast and lunch options and something to suit different needs. I was excited to know they had gluten free bread options. I ordered the honey crunch bagel (peanut butter, Granny Smith apples, honey and granola--no granola for me though) on gluten free. It comes as a gluten free roll. I was shocked by how something so simple was so delicious. I ordered a side of bacon--seemed to be more like the consistency of microwave bacon but I was just grateful to have a protein option outside of eggs. I also ordered a decaf iced caramel latte with coconut milk. Their regular caffeinated iced lattes are made with their cold brew. First time walking around Broad St. Popped in and had a great lunch. Several options, but we went with a bagel with peanut butter, honey drizzle, and diced apple - yum! And a grilled cheese with corned beef hash. A great coffee, and a fun can of banana soda (yay, Savannah Bananas!). Service was great. Very chill and friendly. It was ample without being overwhelming and was a tasty combination of scrambled eggs and sauteed peppers and onions with a nice sprinkling of fresh green onions as well. They asked if I'd like salsa, hot sauce, or sour cream on the side. I opted for sour cream, which was a great pairing. For my coffee, I got one of their holiday lattes. It was a bit sweeter than I prefer, but what can you really expect--it's a holiday latte! It was a tasty treat. It's an order at the counter and they'll call out your coffee situation. The cookie butter nitro was okay. It really didn't taste like cookie butter, but more just like plain nitro brew. New year, same Moon. I stopped in for a Matcha latte and was pleased to see my favorite downtown café hasn't changed a bit. Local art on the walls (and available for purchase), seasonal drinks on the sign, and fresh house made breads and pastries behind the glass. Per usual, smoothies, espresso, coffee and the like are still there. Maybe it's my age or maybe it's just an appreciation for quality, but I prefer consistency in excellence. New Moon is that. My favorites here; Matcha latte (iced, with oat milk), the garcia and tony montana, the green monster, and the zucchini soup (comes with feta and bacon on top). I plan to get back to stopping in more frequently and taking advantage of their outdoor seating. I hope you'll do the same. read more

Went here with my boyfriend for breakfast, pretty long line and wait, took about an hour total from arriving to get our food. I got the salmon bagel which wasn't too bad but I can make better myself, also it didn't have capers which I thought were on the description. My boyfriend got eggs and bacon, the eggs were definitely fake/powdered and he took one bite, they got his coffee order wrong, and he felt like the bacon was some sort of fake bacon that he had had before while in the military. During covid, pre-vaccine. The line in the White building got long during breakfast hours. Moving back into the building and having a full staff helps with the wait time. Plenty of available outdoor seating. I order the quinoa hashbrowns today and was surprised that the staff told me it was not on the menu today since they forgot to make it. The menu has written on a large chalkboard that says they have quinoa hashbrowns. Service can be hit or miss depending on the number of employees they have available. Cute cafe downtown with lots of food and drink options. I got "The Tony Montana" sandwich which was good quality and came out fast. The Unicorn Hot Chocolate is adorable (covered in sprinkles and edible glitter) making for a cute photo-op and great for kids. The ambiance is a bit echo-y but cozy. read more

My wife and I stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning on our way out of town. We loved the vibe inside - very fun and artsy. We both got a breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel, adding cheese and a meat (bacon for me, turkey sausage for my wife). The bagels were superb - best we've had in a long time. Originally we were going to take it to go, but the eggs were scrambled and pretty messy so we decided to eat them there. We would have preferred a fried egg just to make them easier to eat. We definitely preferred the bacon over the turkey sausage. I also got a blueberry croissant. It was fine, it also had an icing filling with the blueberries. But it was a bit underbaked, I probably wouldn't get it again. Overall we enjoyed our experience and would definitely return for the bagels and the vibe. This place is AMAZING! My family and I came here for a quick breakfast and we were not disappointed. My son had a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and he said it was yummy. I had the avocado toast with a fried egg. The bread was tasty and the eggs were cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the steak pimento wrap and he enjoyed it. He said he wished it had a little more spice to it but it was still pretty good. We also ordered two smoothies which were great. The strawberry "pop-tart" was absolutely amazing! The upstairs was not open which was a slight disappointment. For studying, the noise is louder than other coffee places because of the open kitchen. WiFi was intermittently slow. If I had one suggestion to make, I'd list all the specials in one area. They had signs on opposite walls (on the wall and standing). Then you had the wide array of drinks listed above the counter... and I had a slightly difficult time finding the food menu which are located in a box while you wait in line. Came in for coffee and pastries on a Sunday morning with my husband and our 2 year old, my sister, and my mom to celebrate my mom's birthday as she is visiting from out of state. She has celebrated her birthday breakfast here for the past two years and had glowing reviews of her experience last year, when she and my sister were both served lemonades for her birthday even though the cafe was closed when they went. My husband and I have also been eager to try out New Moon since we moved to Augusta last spring, so it was a highly anticipated trip. The Augusta style grits bowl and jalapeño sourdough toast were delicious, as were the Butterbeer latte and lavender blueberry lemonade. We sat and ate, enjoying the food and the fun atmosphere. My husband and I even began planning to come back regularly. At one point my sister got up to ask for two water cups, and one of the baristas curtly dismissed her to take a seat again, saying someone would bring them to us. Understandably there was a line to the door for almost our entire visit, as is expected for a downtown breakfast spot on a Sunday morning. We waited about 15 minutes before receiving only one water cup, which we had to share between the 5 of us. My mom then got up once more to order another sourdough toast for the table, and after about 20 additional minutes of waiting, we decided to wrap things up and cancel the extra toast. My sister approached another barista and politely let them know we wanted to cancel it, but did not request a refund. The barista grabbed the receipt, extremely flustered, and said flatly "I sincerely hope you all have a wonderful rest of your day" before storming back to the kitchen. Up to this point, the only remotely pleasant service we had received was when we ordered our food at the counter; any additional requests (i.e. two water cups) seemed to throw the workers into confusion and disarray, which made for extremely uncomfortable interactions with staff. As we were heading out the door, another worker shouted loudly to the entire restaurant: "Hey, if you have something to do in the next 30 to 45 minutes, maybe don't order here." In addition to being completely unnecessary, I think loudly announcing that it is unreasonable for your customers to expect a piece of toast to come out in under 45 minutes is a greater testament to your staff's inefficiency and disorganization than it is to the customer being demanding. As someone who has worked in the service industry for 8 years, from managing an Italian restaurant in Austin to a Starbucks in Atlanta, I have seen more business than this on a Tuesday evening and would never even FATHOM speaking to a customer this way, let alone shouting at the entire restaurant. Having read through some of the owner responses to the negative reviews, I can tell that this feedback will most likely fall on deaf ears and be met with arrogance and defensiveness; however, I would be remiss if I did not call out the abysmal service and poor customer skills. Perhaps if you work at a breakfast cafe downtown and you find it exceedingly difficult to adapt to/accommodate small requests during a weekend breakfast rush, it may be time for you to find a non-customer facing career. Such a shame that an attempt to be considerate was met with such unprofessionalism, as the four of us will no longer be frequenting this establishment. Good luck to you. read more

After a pretty decent run, one would reward himself with a nice brunch brunch. So I whipped out my Samsung Galaxy 9 phone. Fired up the Yelp app and we found this place. Just a few blocks from where we ended our run too. It's a cute spot pretty much in the middle of the city. Located in a commercial passage way in a building. Tables outside and inside, it has that city hipster rustic feel to it. Kind of matches the used book store across from the shop. I did the soup and a half deal. Chose the G-love, soup was the beef and barley on special. My sandwich was definitely yummy,, I love the slight crunch of the toasted crust, plus all that cheesy beefy goodness is like receiving a Mayweather jab to your mouth. The soup was super good as well,, they even gave me a piece of bread because dipping is only proper with a soup like this. I definitely enjoyed doing the brunch brunch at this spot. The grits bowl had a really terrible aftertaste similar to manure or a farm dirt taste. I don't know if they didn't rinse them or what caused that. The unicorn hot chocolate was a huge disappointment. There was nothing magical or colorful about it. It waste warm and I don't recommend it. The cafe is located in the heart of broad street, with ample street parking and currently only offers take out and outside seating. The service is very good with friendly staff. The Tim curry and pumpkin spice latte were good but just shy of being sweet enough. The lumberjack breakfast was so dull I could have cried. The eggs were tough, almost rubbery and the toast had no butter and was burned in one side. I have personally had better at the Waffle House. The avocado toast was good and the grit bowl with the sausage was good. I waited an incredibly long amount of time to finally place my order. If I ever have to wait that long for breakfast, I expect to be able to order a mimosa at the bar (not that kind of a place). When the line goes out to the door, maybe having more than one person taking orders would be a good idea, but I still can't figure out what took soooo long. I was planning to get breakfast, but nothing on the breakfast menu sounded particularly great. I just wanted some eggs and potatoes but that was not a menu option in any combination of things. Maybe it's a southern thing because grits are the rage, but that had to be a separate order from eggs anyway. It could just be my northern mind, but it seems anti-breakfast! I alternatively went with a sandwich and it's convenient that you can order the full menu all day. I ordered the Dr. John panini with a bag of chips. While it was quite tasty and I would recommend the sandwich, it just wasn't worth the wait. Heaven forbid you want to add something to your order later and have to get back in line. Finding this place was ridiculously hard. If you don't frequent this area often you will without a doubt miss it. I circled around 3 or 4 times and almost gave up. My kiddo is a very picky toddler, like most kids her age are, but she went to town, and came back for more. I was instantly mesmerized by the flavors. I thought it would be an odd combination but I loved every spoonful. I wasn't a fan of the lemonade however. It was extremely tart and I couldn't make a dent in it. I brought it home to my husband, and he wasn't a fan either. We did like how real blueberries were inside though.
