A completely wonderful experience all around. This cute place is easy to miss, so you know how good they must be when they are busy on a Thursday night! The staff was attentive, and super friendly! I even had staff find my purse that I left there, contact me via Facebook to make sure I got it. The food was all fresh, hot, well cooked and super delicious! You can't go wrong with this adorable place! read more

Very Cute place! Inside and outside seating and a bar area. Very crowded on a Sat night so I'd make a reservation. Prices seem reasonable for the portion sizes. Food was good. (veggies weren't cooked long enough) Large menu selection apps, burgers, salads and nice dinners (seafood and steaks). They also have a specials menu. Tables and chairs are a mix and match kind of thing, so gives a rustic feel. Would have given 5 stars but our waitress wasn't very attentive. Parking lot is very tight so back in your spot. read more

Was excited to try a new restaurant. Bar was fun. Food was fine. After 2 hours and a $375 bill for 4 people, they literally asked us to move to the bar because they needed the table. We are in MT. AIRY. This isn't DC. I will never go back because of this. Shocked that this little hole in the wall place tried to make us move to the bar. read more

I love this place. A little pricey, but the food is worth every penny. I've been there many times and their burgers continue to amaze me. I love the layout of the restaurant and service is great!! I hope everyone gets a chance to go there when stopping in the area. Also, the Captain Morgan French toast is amazing for brunch. read more

4 of us visited Bolder for the first time last evening. We went because Bolder is participating in HoCo Restaurant Week. We were glad we did. The food and service were excellent despite the fact that the dining room was full. I expect that we will be returning again soon. read more

Been to Bolder many times and love it, unfortunately they are struggling to regain their pre COVID level of service. Went there tonight and felt very rushed and the service was abysmal. Food was pretty good except for my steak which was first overcooked and then under cooked and the manager made a point to insinuate I did not know what medium rare means. My wife got her side salad before we even got out appetizers and our server asked if we wanted dessert when were only halfway through our entrees. I asked if we could turn off the big fan blowing in the outdoor area since it was raining, I was told it was too hard to reach the switch as someone would have to stand on someone's shoulders. I found the switch and turned it off. We will give them another chance but the place needs some leadership and a focus on service,,,not just good food. read more

Seriously delicious. Cute local place. We had the Brussels sprouts, wedge salad, and baked apple crisp which was delicious and just delicious....did I say delicious!!! read more

Love this place! Professional staff and food is always on point! Highly recommend the wings, mussels and Cornbread Chicken!

Never had a great meal and I've been here several times. The tuna was so tough I couldn't even eat it.

Oh my gosh. I ate at this place and I got this dish it's like chicken cornbread thing and it was so delicious. I definitely want to go back and try some more stuff. Love the environment and the food. Not too overpriced read more

Have been here several times for happy hour. I am a little confused by the rail price drinks as they are listed for $4.50 during happy hour but when I get my check I am always charged extra for the mixer...The juice which is fresh squeezed is $1.50 extra, soda is .50 extra. Don't most rail drinks come with mixers? Just know that the rail drink will have an extra cost added to it depending on what you mix it with. The happy hour food is excellent and the service has always been friendly. read more

Bolder is fantastic. This is what a the gold standard of a nice restaurant is. The worst part of this place is the parking lot. Everything else is top notch without paying a premium. Never had a bad meal. read more

Sat at the bar for lunch and had a great meal! The grilled chicken in our wrap was delicious and fresh. If we lived closer we'd be here all the time! read more

Prices are posted any where on the website so when you order carryout they can charge you whatever they wish. We have dined at Bolder and brought diners several times as well because the food is usually food. Today we ordered carry out. Usually the bolder cornbread chicken is $18 plus an upcharge of $2.50 for brussel sprouts. As is that's expensive. The receipt said $26 and inside the carryout box was less then usual food. 7 brussle sprout halves, a cup of mashed potatos, and chicken that is about the same size as 2.5 chicken tenders. I called and at first they said it's $18 plus $8 for brussel sprouts. I said, thats the price of the appetizer, so we paid that and lost a side? She said oh its $21 plus $5 now. I'm not cheap. I swear, sounds like I am, but that's a lot for what you get. If I had know, I would have got the appetizer and kept the sides the same. Either way, I can't justify paying this price and will go some where else to get more for less. Brussel sprout lovers, Grillmarx has an amazing appetizer for $10 and has bacon in it. The upcharge is $3.00 and you get a lot more. The chicken tenders are amazing too. Swaping out bolder for grillmarx. Wanted to support local, but not at my expense. read more

Had the pleasure of enjoying Howard County's restaurant week at Bolder this evening. My first time at this quaint restaurant. A good size parking lot outside an inviting outdoor area with tables, couches and beautiful umbrellas and flowers. We walked inside where we were greeted by friendly hostesses. We continued around to a clean, open bar with a view and access to the outdoor patio. Sat down and immediately greeted with a smile by the bartender. We tried two cocktails to start; a mule and a mojito. Both were refreshing and delicious! We ordered from the three course restaurant week options. I chose the Muscles with chorizo, Medallions, incredible mashed potatoes and beans and for dessert a passion fruit sorbet. (See pictures). All we're AMAZING. No complaints. As we sat there, friendly bar patrons chatted with us to make the entire experience a great one. I can't wait to return to try everything else on the menu! read more

Last night was our first visit to this restaurant. We were not disappointed! Our server, Tim, was wonderful. Very attentive, friendly and helpful with our selections. There were 5 of us, so we started by sharing two appetizers. The artichoke/crab dip was delicious and served with the best homemade pita bread we had ever had. We also had bold bang shrimp which was fantastic. Everyone loved their entrees as well. Definitely can't go wrong here, you will definitely find choices for every palate. We definitely will be back! read more

Former CoHo executive chef has made Bolder stand out. Signature dishes are fried green tomatoes, cornbread chicken, filet mignon. Bistro steak salad is great too. Don't leave without getting the strawberry nachos. read more

First time customer and really enjoyed myself. The ambience of the place was really relaxing and the food was pretty good too! I always enjoy the company I keep..overall had a great evening! Look forward to going back and try another item on the menu. read more

It was hotter in the bar than it was outside. The burgers are not good at all, the meat tasted frozen and whatever they used to season them ruined it completely. The fries are even worse. The cheapest frozen section fries you can buy. Over priced. Blah. The place looks cool and the patio is nice. Go for a cocktail and an appetizer, don't waste your time or money on dinner. read more

Very nice place for a good meal. I've been 4-5 times since they opened and have always enjoyed it. Very nice outdoor seating was a great addition. Sometimes parking can get tight, but as long as you are off peak, it usually isn't an issue. Bar area is also very nice. Service has always been very good. read more

I'm not sure why all of these great reviews are only giving 4 stars!!! This restaurant is absolutely fabulous! This was my second time to Bolder and despite a bit of confusion due to our large party the first trip i decided i had to go back again because the food was delish. Our server this evening was Joyce who, along with our food being amazing was the highlight of our night. Every dish that came out of that kitchen was phenomenal and Joyce's positivity and sweetness made everything that much better. It amazes me that even with a packed house and such a tight space everything that leaves that kitchen is perfection. There is magic in this little restaurant and as long as they keep providing the quality and the service they are right now I foresee a long bright future! Thanks for making us feel welcome and special. read more

This place turned out to be quite the diamond in the rough. The decor and seating areas were nice. We (a party of 8 adults and 6 young children) came in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We did a call-ahead to make a reservation due to our party size, which worked out well because, though the restaurant was not busy when we arrived around noon, it was quite busy by 12:30. The staff were cordial enough and the service was just okay. The food, however, was really quite good. I had the Fall Salad with the pan seared goat cheese and it was fantastic. My wife enjoyed one of their avocado wraps, which was sizable and good. The accompanying Old Bay chips were nice, too. We would definitely recommend for anyone in the area! read more

We love this place. Great atmosphere and service. Gourmet food yet kid friendly, even for our little ones (3, 1). It helps it's not a quiet place. read more

Very rarely do I give a restaurant 5 stars. Last night's meal and dining experience was excellent. Made a 7 pm reservation and was promptly seated. Service was spot on and menu variety was inviting. Salmon was a wee bit over cooked but still delicious. Did not save room for dessert... next time! read more

If you're even in the Mt. Airy area, or even if you aren't, it's worth a trip to Bolder. You will be pleasantly surprised to find a place like this given it's off the beaten path location. Given it was chilly last night, they weren't seating anyone outside, but in warmer weather that's my first choice - very nice outdoor area. The bar is small but very nice, with plenty of local beer choices. The main dining room can be a bit crowded, but not in a negative way. Based on the number of people there, it's certainly a local favorite. Everyone's food was delicious and well priced. Very diverse menu. Very good burgers, and their seafood dishes are also very good. Waitress was very pleasant and efficient. This place has become one of those places we go to when we're in the mood for some great food in a casual atmosphere. We've introduced several of our friends to Bolder, and they've all loved it. You will, too. read more

First time visit and we loved the restaurant. Service was great and food was awesome. We can't wait to come back again.

I've been to this restaurant a couple times with family after we learned that this is the local go-to place for date nights or a fancy dinner. The food here is just ok - not bad, but not great, no where close to what I expected when I was told it was fine casual dining. You can get a much better meal in plenty of other places, and probably for the same price, if not less. This is one of those places that aspires to fine dining, but thinks it can be achieved by over-charging the customer, tarting up the menu descriptions, and throwing a linen tablecloth and a candle on the table. Given the prices on this menu, I expect a lot more - better selection, better ingredients, and far better atmosphere and presentation. There is nothing unique or special about anything on the menu. The dining room is small, and they've crammed too many tables in, making it difficult for customers and staff alike to navigate, especially when the place is full. You end up feeling like you're dining out with the people next to you, which is not what I want for a nice night out. While the patio looks inviting, let's face it, there are probably only a handful of days each year when the weather is just right for dining outside. They'd be better off building in the patio area to expand the indoor dining area, and give the customers a little breathing room. The seasonal menu is poorly put together. They feature rotating, seasonal specials, which is a nice touch, but the menu items are crammed together on a one page sheet, where it's difficult to tell one item from another. We've had trouble understanding the specials on more than one occasion. I'm a bit confused by the "hip" atmosphere this restaurant tries to convey. Every time I've been there, we tended to be the youngest people there by about thirty years. Not that I want hip; just be aware that if you're looking for a romantic place for a quiet date night away from the kids, most of your cohorts will be your parents age. Lastly, I'm not sure why this irks me so much, but the menu lists the French onion soup as American onion soup. Is this leftover post-9/11 flag-waving ire at the French? Or are they trying to be cute? Whatever the reason, please call it what it is, so the customer doesn't have to question your politics or your sanity. read more

I'm so glad I stumbled upon Bolder while browsing Yelp. Went for "date night" lunch with the hubby. Sat at the bar since we were sans kiddos. It was pretty empty since it was 3pm on a Friday but by the time we left around 5pm it was packed with people looking for bar seats. Love the ambiance of the restaurant...very warm, trendy and modern. Service was good. We had the Shrimp Bolder and Crispy Brussel Sprouts as an app. Both were delicious...especially the sprouts. Hubs had a pork loin which was good and the gnocchi on the side was uhh-mazing. I had the Crabby Fried Green Tomatoes. It was good although I find red pepper sauce to be slightly bland but thats just my own general opinion. Or maybe I was just stuck on the sriracha aioli that came with the sprouts. The crab cake was super lumpy...in fact, I don't like posting pics of eaten food but I had to of the crab cake to show how the lumpiness created a giant hole in the crab cake. Winter Sangria was perfecto...mason jar crush was also superb. Can't wait to go back. 4 stars only because prices are slightly high but not enough that I wouldn't go back. read more

Bolder - Pork Lion with Gnocchi, Crabby Fried Green Tomatoes, Giant Lump of Crab from Crab Cake, Winter Sangria, Mason Jar Grapefruit Crush - Wine Bars Near Me - Mount Airy, Maryland

This would be a 4 star for the food but the fact that they made us wait so long after saying it would just be 5 minutes was very frustrating. I understand if you're busy, but please set realistic expectations. read more

We had 8 pm reservations and were finally seated around 9-bummer. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a drink while we waited. It would have been a nice gesture for them to comp us a drink due to the wait but no such luck. Once we got a table we had a tough time deciding because it all looked so fabulous. We were served and WOW, amazingly delicious food. Grilled brussel sprouts-outstanding. Shrimp and grits-crazy good, salmon, to die for and the bread was perfect. Fair prices. Cannot wait to come back. Outdoor seating looks inviting for when the weather warms up. Friendly servers. read more

Yuck, bad service and mediocre food at best. They better get it together or they will be gone. Get rid of the attitude, your there to serve!

Make sure to have the fried green tomatoes! Absolutely delicious! I was full from the appetizer! Will definitely come back!

While the food and drink may be good, we unfortunately received AWFUL service last night. Within 5 minutes of paying our bill, we were told to leave or continue in the bar. Keep in mind this is while 4 tables were empty and there was no wait. When we politely complained in person all they could say was "we're so sorry." Never had this happen to us, and we will not be back. read more

We went to dinner at Bolder the other day. I had the shrimp and grits while my wife had the corn bread chicken. I felt that the food was good but nothing special. The shrimp and grits was light on shrimp but heavy on the collard greens. The dish did taste good but had way too many collard greens. The corn bread chicken was just ok. I felt like the breading had an odd taste and I was very glad I did not order that. My wife also said that the breading tasted off but the chicken was good with the breading removed. We both like corn bread but this corn breading was not what we expected. read more
