Excellent place. We've been here a number of times through its various incarnations - but as Boulder it is the best. Fantastic food. Wait staff is awesome - and a great bar with local products! It is really a hidden gem! read more

Great restaurant off the beaten path. The renovations to the outside deck are great and it looks very cozy and like a great place to just hang out with friends and have a drink or dinner. If it wasn't so chilly when we went we would have eaten outside. They do have heaters out there but we didn't notice them until when we were leaving. The food was very good. We started with the crab dip which came with warm pita chips that looked like they were going to be crunchy but were actually very soft and wonderful. I had the crab cake entree which was good...but notice that it says "twin" crab cakes (I didn't) ...I wound up taking half mine home, it was a lot of food for me. It came with roasted potatoes but those were meh, not very warm and just bland. My husband had the London Broil and it was very good. Friends had the scallops which they said were awesome, but there's not very many of them, so you may have to order something extra to fill you up. For dessert we split the brownie sundae, which was huge, and friends split the cobbler and said it was very tasty. If I had to complain about anything it would probably be that it was a bit noisy inside and our waitress wasn't the most attentive...nice enough, but we wound up waiting on a few things for quite a while. It was a Saturday night and maybe they were understaffed or understaff on purpose so that the servers have less tables and get better tips for the night, don't know. Regardless, the prices are on the higher end so most people expect a higher level of service. Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant and plan on going back and sitting outside next time. read more

Great find in Mt. Airy. Good twist on American fare. Very good balance and selection of food with decent amount of seafood options. If you go on a Friday or Saturday night make a reservation. Very excited for outdoor patio to open. read more

We've had some so-so experiences recently, but today's brunch was excellent. Eggs Benedict were well done - poached well, thick sliced Canadian bacon, really tasty home fries. My wife's short ribs were tender and moist with well prepped eggs and subbed home fries for grits. Was it because the manager, Ellie, was there today? Could be and hope to see her there more often if that's the case. read more

I ordered the eggs Benedict and my husband ordered the corn bread crusted chicken! The eggs Benedict was good, but the chicken meal was amazing, came with a side of cheesy broccoli and mash potatoes, definitely recommend trying that. The atmosphere and decor was welcoming. Will be coming back to try more things on the menu. read more

My family and I ordered take out from this restaurant a few days ago, and it was a very good choice. We were in the mood for burgers, and Bolder did not disappoint. I highly recommend dropping by for a nice meal out or ordering a lunch or dinner for carry out. read more

The food is awesome and overall the vibe of the restaurant is great, however the manager really ruined the experience. She was incredibly rude and unprofessional. She needs to consider a different line of work if customer service isn't her thing. read more

Been to Bolder for dinner many times and it has not disappointed! The decor and ambience are both warm and inviting, and a the menu options are varied and delicious. I highly recommend! read more

Great first time experience! We had the Drunken Mussels, Golden Fried Calamari, and American Onion soup for appetizers and they were tasty. My Seafood Augratin was outstanding! It had jumbo shrimp, sea scallops, jumbo lump crabmeat in a sherry cream sauce topped with melted swiss cheese in a crock served with mashed potatoes & seasonal vegetables on the side. The veggie medley was perfectly presented not over cooked. The rest of our party fully enjoyed their meals as well. We finished with their Liquid Deserts, I had the mint chocolate chip martini....sweet! The place was full but the service was on track. We will be back :-) read more

Great food, great atmosphere. The flatbread is awesome! I also recommend the Bolder wings and fried green tomatoes with a crab cake.

I have been to bolder several times for dinners, lunch, happy hours, and brunch. I have never been disappointed with the food! The staff are all friendly. The patio area is wonderful in warm weather. The inside dining area is a little tight and is always pretty packed for dinner, but it is worth the wait. A little pricey for the area, but the food is always delicious and in decent portions. read more

Went to dinner here for the first time with my husband and friends. We were seated immediately and impressed by the updated modern look. The food and service was amazing! As a starter we ordered the crab and artichoke dip it's was delicious and had big chunks of crab! Our friend ordered the New England calm chowder and she said it was hands down the best she's had. For our entrees we all ordered burgers, great flavors and cooked to our liking. Our server was very attentive and always made sure our drinks were filled and checked on us throughout our meal. They did a great job revamping the place. We will definitely be coming back! read more

Bolder is a great addition to the Mt. Airy area! Great food and drinks at an affordable price with excellent service. Definitely will be coming back for some more of their crispy brussel sprouts and pumpkin bread pudding!!! read more

If you look reviews for places around Mt Airy 'proper' you will find a lot of mediocrity - I would definitely recommend driving the extra 10 minutes to Bolder - you won't be disappointed you did. The patio is awesome, the food is great and the service was too. read more

After all the great reviews I decided to try this place. I had the scallops dish wrapped in bacon with couscous. It was ok, at best.

This was our first experience going to Boulder. Although we have attempted to go before, but could not get a table due to a high number of reservations. First let me say if you intend in going to the restaurant, make a reservation. Outside seating was nice however we choose to sit in the dining room. After waiting for the hostess, and the hostess not seeming to find our reservation, we were sat. We had a 10-12 minutes wait for the wait staff to even acknowledge we were there. To hear they didn't know who was supposed to serve us. There were at least 4 servers and only one other table in the dining area at that point. Finally someone came to get our drink order, than 5 minutes later we got a new server. Besides the wait staff experience, the food was good, from cornbread chicken, chicken avocado wrap, and the bison burger. We each took leftovers home. Not sure that we'll go back, for the price the service needs to be in point. read more

Prices are just ok but the food is great. Went for brunch and they did not disappoint. The place is a little small but beautiful inside. It also has a nice sitting area outside. Looking forward to going again read more

I've been twice and it's easily becoming one of my favorite places! All the food is delicious, especially the brunch cinnamon buns, turkey Brie sandwich, and the Talk Of the Town. It's a small place so I would recommend making recommendations. read more

This resturant is a great addition to the Mt Airy resturant scene. Good good, friendly staff. Love the outside patio seating. Reservations for evening dining is a good idea. Very popular place. read more

beautiful place, people very nice ..I ordered at mushroom Swiss burger. no flavor or seasoning. burger was much smaller then the bun. husband got turkey club same thing no flavor. chips would have been good if they were seasoned but again it was bland. service was ok could have been more attentive since there was only like 3 more tables in there with people. prices seemed ok but not for what we got to tonite.. will try again in about a month when the kinks are worked out. can't say it enough seasoning. seasoning!! read more

Came here with some girlfriends for happy hour and started hearing the locals talk about how we were in "their seats" and gotta say it took away from the overall experience! We enjoyed the drinks and apps but as soon as we walked to go outside they were hovering for our seats and not very friendly. Not bolders fault, but not in a rush to go back. read more

Average food at best. Went there a few weeks ago to give it a second try... super nice night-- asked to sit on the beautiful patio the built and was told it wasn't open because it was going to rain, despite clear skies and sun. (never did rain that night btw). Two tries is enough for me, probably won't be back. read more

I have given it 2 tries now and have been disappointed with the food both times. First time there my burger was salty and was the consistency/flavor of meatloaf. This visit was when they first opened so I gave them another shot. The second time the calamari appetizer was pretty good. The shrimp pasta entree arrived in a glop of heavy and not very flavorful sauce. It could have been plated nicer. The shrimp were plump and well cooked if not plentiful but they were buried under the thick pasta and sauce. I hope they can improve the food. Great casual atmosphere. Nice wines. read more

Went with friends and had dinner on the beautiful patio. The ambience was very nice and the food was great! Highly recommend the bang bang shrimp and the salmon. Nice job with the risotto too! Great new place! read more

Yum! Great food-- creative and well prepared. Had the crab and fried green tomato appetizer, turkey and Brie sandwich with sliced apples, and this cool "piecaken" for dessert. The piecaken was a taste of autumn, with pumpkin and spices with a bit of crust or cake baked in, topped with something akin to creme fraiche! Absolutely delicious! Good service and friendly staff. Bonus: beautiful drive out in the country to arrive at this destination! SO worth it! read more

Decor was very nice but the service was not. Drinks were 20 minutes late after sitting. I got corn and potatoes with my crab cake. The corn and potatoes came out cold and burnt pieces were mixed in. So I asked for a side of mashed potatoes instead. When I received the check they charged me 6$ for the mashed potatoes i asked why and she told me it was because I should of ordered them before my food came out. Who is supposed to know they don't like something if you haven't eaten it before? I didn't like my side so I asked for another! The lady was very rude about it as well. Won't be returning unfortunately. read more

Love this place what a gem! We love to pick new places to try based off of these reviews and the majority of the time it works out to be consistent with the reviews. This time it was a true treat! We tried the calamari, chips, salmon, Tuscany seafood & filet mignon. All selections were great. The portions were a little too large but tasted too really nice and tasty to good to stop at just full. Long story short we will be back and bring friends:) So only reason for 4 out of 5 was for the kids sodas. Not sure if the machine needed a mix adjustment? read more

I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant. Mostly after speaking with the owner! She was terrible to deal with!!!! To begin, I've been here a few times and have received poor food. From plastic in my mashed potatoes to chewy tuna steak that was inedible. Decided to give them another chance and had the worst experience on getting dinner with a friend. We went to the host stand to request a table as the bar was full, the host said that he needed to clean a table before he could seat us. Perfectly fine, we waited, then he walked in and told us we could sit. While waiting for either our menus or server, the owner came and told us we couldn't sit there because the tables were reserved for people on the waitlist. We explained the situation and she still gave us crap and then said ok and walked inside. 5 minutes we waited and I walked inside to the owner at the host/hostess stand to ask if we should just get up. She proceeded to give me a lecture about the tables and how they were reserved and that the host she hired was still training. Not any of our fault and should never have been taken out on my friend and I. read more

Great atmosphere, affordable prices for really good food. A lot of attention to detail and it shows. Great selection of drinks and a wonderful addition to the area. Love the turkey brie sandwich. read more

We heard about this trendy new restaurant in Woodbine where we live. Woodbine is very rural so "trendy" and Woodbine aren't typically used in the same sentence. Given that, we had high hopes for this place since it is only like 10 minutes from our house. After two previous unsuccessful attempts to go (not Boulder's fault) I decided to make reservations for my wife and I for a Wednesday evening for my wife's birthday. When we arrived they had our reservation and we were promptly seated by the hostess. She left menus, a drink menu, and a specials menu. We were approached by the server shortly after being seated and she told us it was half-off wine night which we didn't know so that was appreciated. She let us mull over the menu for a while and didn't rush us. The place was busy for a Wednesday and it was quite loud. I don't hold this against them - people are loud. As for the menu it is kind of strange. It is sort of like a cross between a bar menu and a bistro menu. So you have wings, chicken tenders and nachos and then mussels, flatbread and brussel sprouts. Same with the entrees - kind of a scattered selection of bar and bistro. We ordered the calamari (a special recommended by our waitress over the mussels) as an app, my wife ordered the London broil, and I ordered a Fontina burger medium. We also ordered a bottle of Dark Horse Pinot Noir (only $12 on 1/2 price night...cool!). The waitress was quick to serve the wine and shortly after the calamari came. It was just okay. It had a cornmeal coating that was salty and was accompanied by what seemed to be pickled jalapenos from a jar fried with the same coating. The calamari rings were small and there were no tentacles. They weren't overcooked but the coating made them seem tough. The sauce was like an Asian sweet chili sauce. There was no lemon or garnish on the plate so it didn't look enticing. Bottom line is I've had a lot better calamari. As for my burger, it too was unimpressive. The bun was stale or just not a good bun - it was spongy. The lettuce I was served was very old and tucked inside was a big black blob of rotten lettuce. I honestly can't believe they actually served that lettuce on a plate - it was sickening. The waitress offered to get me replacement lettuce but I declined. The waitress also upsold me on fries over the standard chips telling me how good they were. They honestly were tasty but I am pretty sure they are a processed frozen product - sort of like a fried mashed potato stick (ala Ore-Ida "Crispers"). The burger patty itself wasn't bad although it was more medium well than medium - so a little drier than I like. As for the toppings they were also disappointing. When I order a "Fontina Burger" I'm picturing a burger drenched in luscious, melty Fontina cheese. Nope - only a small amount of cheese. There were also caramelized onions which I love, but they were actually cold - so probably pre-prepared, stored in a fridge, and plopped on the burger without being reheated. A Fontina burger with caramelized onions could have been absolutely amazing if executed properly, but this dish was not and the rotten lettuce was inexcusable and revolting. My wife's London broil was served with mashed potatoes and fried Brussel sprouts. The preparation was kind of weird...normally you would think they would cook a slab of meat and then slice it and put it on the plate. This was actually sliced into 1/4 inch strips first and then grilled. Amazingly the thin strips weren't overcooked but the meat and mushroom sauce lacked seasoning. The mashed potatoes tasted good but were gummy - not light and airy and fresh tasting. The Brussel sprouts were very oily and a bit salty according to my wife. Again, the dish could have been a winner but wasn't. Lastly we shared a Bananas Foster. It was a good dish and we enjoyed it. The sauce had a cinnamon and rum flavor in the right proportions. To summarize our experience, our server was friendly and attentive and we never felt rushed or abandoned. The manager came by and wished my wife a happy birthday which was nice. So from a service and friendliness perspective they did a good job. The food however was pretty disappointing. I worked in restaurants for 15 years and in a place this busy everything should be fresh because the food is being used up and can be replenished frequently - so no time for food to sit around and spoil. There was nothing "fresh" about our meal. The execution of the food was also quite poor IMO - stale bread, rotten lettuce, sparse cheese, cold onions, frozen french fry product, gummy mashed potatoes and oily Brussel sprouts. This restaurant has a lot of potential. And at least at this point there is a good buzz about it. But IMO if they don't get it together on the food they're not going to last long. There are some fundamental quality and execution problems that need to be addressed. read more

Love everything about this place! Food, staff, reasonable prices, great wine selection (heavy pours!) and the atmosphere (indoor and outdoor). It is exactly what this small town needed. We have WAY too many pizza joints and the few 'restaurants' we do have are horrible. Keep it up BOLDER! read more

We just celebrated my birthday with 8 of us this evening. The service and the food were outstanding. The appetizer fried crabby green tomatoes were outstanding as well as the soup of the day crabby corn chowder. Loaded with crab meat. The special entree of the evening a 14oz Hartley Ranch NY Strip steak was amazing and cooked to perfection. Several people in our party had the cornbread chicken and loved it. Huge portions. The shrimp and grits were perfectly seasoned and not too spicy. For dessert we shared the strawberry nachos which were awesome. Will be back again. Ellen and her crew do an amazing job. This is a must try for everyone!!!! read more

Went to Bolder last night. Horrible service. They were busy but the bartender did everything she could to not look up for people waiting for a drink. We were told we would have an hour and 15 minute wait for a table which turned out to be two hours. Ate a few things at a high top table in the bar but the service was lacking. No one seemed to care about any customers unless they were sitting in the bar chairs. Probably won't give it another try. Service is everything so good luck with improving all aspects of making customers feel welcome read more
