beautiful setting. Small menu inside and outside. Focus is on wines. Wines were excellent. And not overpowering. Also expensive costing 40-80 dollars a bottle. Tasting is 27 dollars per person And you get to taste four or five wines. Winery is about 8 miles from Mt Airy and not far from Elk Run. Place was packed and a bit rushed. There was a members tasting that day which was sold out. I'd suggest going at off times and relaxing with a good bottle of wine.

So many different seating areas & great vibes. Outdoor, indoor, tented area... Has a food truck with nice options. We are vegetarian and got the focaccia & potatoes which were excellent. Dog friendly, lots of space. Definitely recommend

Loved this place!! Came here for the first time a few weeks ago with my best friends and we really enjoyed it. We both signed up for wine club memberships too, and have been back twice to take advantage of it. The employees are more than accommodating and great with communication and it seems like there is always something fun happening here. The wine is expensive but worth the price. They also have snacks. Everything here is good, especially the Rosé. There's a TON of seating in lots of different areas and it's a great view anywhere you sit. I look forward to coming back here and bringing new friends for tastings!

Amazing views as you drive towards the vineyard. The fall colors give you a better experience. The sweet wines were delicious. $65 dollars per bottle. Also plenty of Tesla charging stations. I was impressed by the number of chargers. Looking forward to coming back.

We visited the vineyard on Mother's Day and it was packed!! There was plenty of staff and every employee we encountered was extremely helpful and went above and beyond. They were prepared for the crowd and handled it all so well. The wine was great and we loved the dessert pairing they had special for Mother's Day. The whole property is beautiful. You can tell that every last detail was designed with intention. I especially enjoyed the environmentally consciousness of the property.

The grounds here are beautiful. It was nice having a host to take us to our table to prevent us from wondering through the crowds. Although we decided not to stay long enough to take a tour, I had to ask where the name came from. I was told that the name comes from an old farm trail that previously went to DC. Throughout the interior you will see old historian pictures and depictions of muddy boots (check out the wine glasses). I'll admit that I thought the comments about the prices were a bit exaggerated but it is indeed a little pricey here compared to other local vineyards. We tried their mixed flight and it was ok. I didn't find a new favorite. There was a coffee truck and food truck. I tried the smoked wings and didn't finish them - they were ok. We wanted the charcuterie but we weren't hungry enough to justify paying for Parking is fairly easy and there are quite a few EV chargers. There is live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 4pm. Overall it was an ok visit.

It was my first time checking out this vineyard and I came with a couple of friends and I thought it was awesome! The rose is my favorite! There was a holiday bazaar and I had the perfect Sunday! I highly recommend checking it out!

Welcome to"The excited southerner at a Maryland's vineyard" Black Ankle Vineyards on a gorgeous sunny Saturday.... You just can't beat it We did the tastings and todays lineup included 2022 ALBARIÑO A wonderful acidic white with lots of character 2021 ALBARIÑO NORTÉ This white was less acidic but light and refreshing 2022 PASSEGGIATA This is a blend of the reds and whites on property, varying from season.. very smooth SLATE 9 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot 12% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc Really a phenomenal red blend... But my fave was 2019 Black Ankle Estate A wonderful red blend of Cabernet Sav, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot It is a gorgeous vineyard with helpful Knowledgeable staff.

Very knowledgeable front desk lady! I may need her to give me a class on reds. Various types of red wines she mentioned sounded more like a foreign language to me. I feel as someone who drinks red wine exclusively. I need to get better perhaps I'll schedule myself a class in the future great location and a wonderful winery to enjoy with friends or for date night if I'm in the area again, I will definitely be back

Great amount of seating, customer service was friendly and efficient. The wines were delicious and came out fast with plenty of varieties. The vibe was amazing! It's super family friendly and accommodating to children yet perfect for a date or event w groups. The seating areas worked well for all. There was live music that started around 5 on a Saturday evening. Also I loved that there were plenty of food options - bring your own picnic, order bread and/or charcuterie boards, and also an onsite food truck (Peruvian street food this particular day). I cannot wait to return!

Decided to visit a winery over Labor Day weekend with friends and they chose Black Ankle Vineyards. The winery is nestled down in these rolling hills and is very picturesque. It also has plenty of seating options (both indoor and outdoor / covered and uncovered) which is nice for both an intimate date and a larger group. The wine offerings were quite nice and even though it's not listed, they do allow you to order a mixed flight. Ordering is a bit confusing though as you would think you can order from your table once seated, however, you have to head inside to order which is slightly inconvenient. Food offerings from the menu are extremely limited and are what I would call nibbles (they had a food truck - outside vendor - because I assume they received enough feedback about food options being limited) , although it is nice that virtually all of them are made by local businesses in the DMV area. We went with a variety of items and charcuterie and pickle dip we're our favorites. We truly didn't bother taking pics of the other items because we didn't expect them to be pre-packed (like they were ready to be sold in a supermarket) and they weren't anything to write home about. OH, and the "biscuits" aren't the buttermilk baked fluffy biscuits one might expect, but rather shortbread biscuits which was a bit of a bummer. Now for the wine ... overall pleased with all that I selected in my flight, however, as you see from the pics, the flight has no labeling so I didn't know what I was drinking .... and the server was super busy so I didn't bother to ask her as it initially took a while for the flight to be delivered. Overall it was nice day, however, I probably won't be back unless someone has an event here that I attend.

The details!

Black Ankle is my favorite vineyard in Maryland! The wine is absolutely delicious! I love all the different food trucks and events that take place there. You can tell that the staff really care about the experience of their customers. There is thought and care in every detail! The ambiance is inviting and relaxing. I love all the little spaces you can gather with friends or even go alone.

I've been to quite a few wineries in the DMV area and am usually disappointed by the quality of the wines. Black ankle is different. Their wines are expensive, but good. If you want to hang out at a winery with a good vibe and quality wine (and willing to spend the money), Black Ankle is the spot. I did a mixed flight and husband did the red flight. We also ordered a glass of Black Ankle Estate. The Black Ankle Estate was our absolute favorite-- bummer it wasn't included as part of the flight. While we enjoyed tasting different wine, personally would rather order a glass of BA Estate ($28) over ordering the flight ($33). We loved that you could bring your own food. Service was fast, helpful. There were a lot of children and dogs which we loved (dogs allowed on the patio only). I will definitely be back with my dog next time!

Let me first add the context that I don't really identify as a wine drinker, but will still occasionally visit vineyards because I think the experience is nice. 61 vineyard was a cool spot for sure. They have a nice open location with tons of space (I think they said around 40 acres) and they've been expanding their main location for the four years that they've been open. They have a main tasting room, an expansion seating room, and an outdoor patio area that are all well maintained and great for parties of all sizes. I partook in the wine tasting which was very good and the staff was very friendly and easy to talk to (which I find often makes or breaks wine tasting experiences) The wine itself does seem on the pricier end for what I'm used to where I think the average bottle here goes for over $20. But there are also member and subscription types of services to take advantage of discounts. I'm not entirely sure if they have relationships with food vendors, but they didn't have many food option in the main location itself when we were there. The food options that I saw were prepackaged charcuterie packs, so I would keep that in mind for your visit. All in all a very nice winery spot and would recommend even if wine isn't typically your drink of choice.

They have a great view, string lights, indoor and outdoor seating, and a brewery close by. They have been around 4 years and are slowly revamping an old dairy farm into this winery. I loved that you could build your own flight. I enjoyed my tasting. I loved that she let us try everything, even though the tasting was set for 5 wines. I'm not sure how tastings would work when they are more busy. We went at opening on a Friday, so we could sit at the bar and hear about all the wines. There were so many good wines, but the Albariño really stood out as crisp and fresh and different.

This was our first time attending in a while and our first in the Fall. The tickets have tiers, VIP, Early Bird (enter at 6am), and General Admission (enter at 9am). By the time we decided to attend, which was the month before the festival, only the Early Bird and General Admission were available. The event started at 10am with a DJ, and 2 Reggae bands (one @ 12pm and the other @ 3pm). Attendees with tents on one side and everyone else on the other side. There were many vendors available - I even saw someone doing massages and another doing henna. Tastings to be had; Bottles to buy; Food to eat; Fun everywhere. We had a great time attending and all the employees we came across were so helpful. Parking is very uniform. We will be back to attend another of their festivals as they have different ones throughout the year.

Manisha and Prashsant, owners of Stone Manor Inn, were personally involved in making sure all went smoothly with our cocktail and dinner party, and it most certainly did! SMI is a lovely old country inn on 14 acres, I believe, with a number of different venues (indoors and out) for meetings, parties, and weddings. The rooms (7 in total) were eclectic, in a good way. All four of their largest rooms that we occupied were spacious, with king beds and spa tubs with separate showers. All were well maintained and clean upon check-in. We had no complaints. I'm not sure when we will return to the area, but when we do, we will not hesitate to return!

I was on the fence to book this place given its hefty price tag, and glad I went for it and completely agree with the glowing 5 star reviews. The bubbly host Manisha is very warm and welcoming. She cordially gave us a 20 min tour around the property, which was built in 1908, and even gave me a bonus tour of the other rooms afterwards. She kindly answered all of our questions and didn't rush us. The Peacecock Room is the most spacious and best room (aside from the bridal suite), elaborately decorated in peacocks. We loved it! The little touches like the handmade soap, a set of wine glasses, and a wine opener made the stay so memorable and special. While the rooms aren't temperature controlled, the electric flameless fireplace kept the room warm. The double capacity jacuzzi was perfect for my hubby and I and even had lights (some of the other rooms have smaller jacuzzi, so be sure to check). The rooms were clean minus a couple of lady bugs and stink bugs (which is too be expected out in the country). Dr. Fauci's assistant stayed here and Manisha informed us of the extensive sanitation process, even the pillows and decorations are quarantined for 6 days! The backyard is well groomed and really spacious with a nice patio and heat lamp, which kept us warm sitting outside in the frigid winter. Our dog loved running around! You can see the stars and constellations really well. It would make a great wedding venue! The Christmas decorations around the property are really nice. The owners really go the extra mile and put a lot of TLC into the property. The 6 course breakfast is delicious and bursting with flavor. Between the veggie quiche, cheesy potatoes, scone, pancakes, yogurt, and fresh OJ, I was stuffed! The fresh butterscotch scone was divine and devoured my mine and my hubby's! The cheesy potato had a nice spicy kick. Everything was so fresh and delicious. All the courses come out at once on a large tray. While my hubby and I chose to sit at the communal table (the chairs are roughly 6 feet apart), you can take the tray up to your room. Manisha and her family greeted us and thoroughly explained the dishes and chatted with us for a bit, even her son made an appearance! The bed and breakfast has a nice bar with wine, cider, and alcohol based on an honor code system. Water and soda is complementary, they even had Coke 0! The complementary fudgy brownies by the breakfast area during the day were sweet and tasty. Again the little complimentary stuff gives this bed and breakfast a nice resort feel. Very relaxing stay and looking forward to coming back!

Let me get the "bad" out of the way first, and note this is still a five-star review. You drive up a gravel country road to a small building that houses the tasting room. It's the smallest tasting room I've ever been in, and very simply decorated: a few beautifully framed pieces from the farm's history, some antique tools, and that's about it. This isn't going to be your upscale winery experience. If you're looking for Napa or Bordeaux vibes, you're in the wrong place. The single guy behind the counter turned out to be the owner. He mentioned that his wife usually runs the tastings, but she was on vacation. He was fantastic, fun to talk with, knowledgeable from both a production angle and a "yes, I actually drink these wines" perspective, which is surprisingly rare. He even spoke warmly about nearby wineries, treating them as colleagues rather than competitors. It's always refreshing to meet a winemaker who genuinely enjoys other people's wine. As for the wines: we tried all twelve. A couple were still young and could use a few years in the bottle, but they showed a lot of promise. I didn't care for the Muscat, but most of the others were excellent, and I had a hard time choosing which bottles to take home. Be sure to try the "Trop Elyts"; it's fantastic, and kind of port like. I'm not usually a rosé fan, but their take on it was so unique I bought a bottle of that, too. The farm itself dates back to the 1700s. George Washington probably slept there (he slept everywhere). It's full of character and history, and well worth the stop

When we entered the tasting room we were the only people there except for one other man. We had to initiate conversation with him to determine if we were in the right place and if we could get a tasting. It was confusing and we didn't feel clear about what to do or welcomed. I did enjoy the Rich Forest Chard, the Rose blend, and the Hogshead Red. It was interesting to learn about the residual sugars and how their rose is different. There is a cemetery on the premises which was an interesting choice.
