Visited here for our first time on a Saturday during Memorial Day weekend, spending the day picking strawberries and then visiting wineries in the Mt. Airy area. Setting is beautiful, shaded tables spread widely on a hillside lawn next to vineyards. We purchased one tasting flight. Servers climbed the hill carrying one bottle at a time to pour each glass! I love that there are great wineries within driving distance of the city. Its the perfect summer socially distant activity to grab your quarantine pod and head to a local winery to enjoy some drinks in the sun. I enjoyed the majority of the wines i had here, i will say my visit was a few weeks ago and included multiple wineries so names are escaping me haha. I do know it was the dry reds and dry whites as i dont like sweet wines from anyone. I do remember particularly loving the Chancellor. Also Rachel was a great hostess! she brought out our tasting and you could tell she really loves wine making because i learned so much about the process! A reservation isn't necessary to come here, which is convenient. The parking spaces are a bit limited, though. During COVID, the wine tastings come in little plastic cups. It's 5 for $12 and a souvenir glass thrown in, and you get to choose from a list of whites, reds, and sweet. I appreciate that you don't have to stick to a particular category when you choose your 5 wines. On Saturday afternoon, there was a musician playing on her guitar. There was also a food truck if you want a bite to eat! The grassy area is a bit small, and there are a few tables and chairs spread out on the grass. There's no patio. You can also walk along the vines. This isn't really a place for large groups to hang out for a few hours in one spot like at black ankle (which requires a reservation), but I think it's great if you want to go from place to place to taste wines! read more

Best thing about coming here is $8 to taste 10 wines + the glass. We were only here for about 10 minutes it felt like. There was nowhere to hangout the inside is small and the outside only had 2 metal chairs by the side door. We breezed through the tasting and felt like immediately we needed to make a decision on what we wanted to buy. All the wines were unique and different but there were none that we were crazy about. We partially just bought a bottle because the owner who is a small old lady, we didn't want to hurt her feelings by not loving her wine. Definitely don't feel like we need to come back ever again. Please buy some picnic tables so people can better enjoy their time and even sober up if needed. read more

Local and Lovable! We drove by this winery so many times and decided to stop by for an afternoon and it was very much so worth it! Sitting up on the hill, this vineyard has tons of space and incredible views. We were greeted and told about the winery and the different tastings they offer. We each did the traditional tasting; 5 wines and a glass for $12! They also have guided tastings. We got to talk to several members of the staff and the head wine maker, tasting a few of the upcoming bottles and it got us very excited. Most wine bottles are priced between $20 and $25 and the meads around $20. They also had plenty of snacks, a food truck onsite, and live music! I discovered Loew Vineyard through the Maryland Wine Pass and was thoroughly pleased with this small and humble winery. They offer white, red, sweet, and mead, and have a lovely lawn area with several tables where you can enjoy their wines overlooking the vineyard and the surrounding fields. You can choose from several types of cheese to pair with your tasting, and you are also welcome to bring your own food. During our visit, they offered a "choose your own" tasting of 5 wines, as well as a guided tasting - both of which include a souvenir glass. My partner and I chose to do to the "choose your own" tasting and were received our glasses along with a bag of our 5 samples in plastic cups. This made for a quick and convenient transaction, and we chose a picnic table on their lawn to enjoy our tasting. The lawn is a bit hilly so we did have a slight issue with glasses and cups sliding along the table but no major accidents. There was also live music (acoustic pop song covers) from a very talented musician which added to pleasant ambiance. Parking is a bit limited, and tables probably won't accommodate more than 8 - 10 people, so this vineyard may be better suited to smaller groups. Super friendly owners and staff! My hubby brought me here for Mother's Day. We typically drink red dry. We had to change our pallet that day to sweet. The strawberry wine was great. Despite what other reviews might have said, this is by far the best vineyard/winery along RT 26. Some may have mock this places style... yes it is a shed without the fur coat and no pantries approach of Black Ankle. There is no where to sit and Instagram your wonderful time wine tasting. What you do get is bloody good wine. By far the best in this area. At a fraction of the price of Black Ankle with by far better taste. You also get by far the friendliest service. One of the actual owners will more than likely pour what they've spent decades perfecting. Rather than someone they've hired to tell you about the aftertaste.., blah blah blah. I actually love this place. The wines are reasonably priced and taste of wine with body, rather than water and bank overdrafts. Some reviews said the place doesn't look that good. I'll call them pretentious asses, who care more about presentation than actual quality. But people are asses in general right? If you're into wine go here. If you'd rather sit in the sun, paying way too much but you've got nice landscaping for that social media post that no one cares about. Go to Black Ankle... Me? And my beloved? This is such a cute little winery in Mt. Airy. We got a deal at Groupon for wine tasting for 2. We get to sample total of 9 wines from dry to sweet. I am not really into dry wine but i sure could compliment their sweet wine. We ended up buying a bottle of sweet wine. We also bought a cheese platter while sampling their wine and we enjoyed it! Mrs. Loew herself was there to entertain us and gave us a little background of their winery dated back in the 70s. It was a fun experience. What a secret gem! After learning that some of my daughter's friends have only had wine from a box (and one of the boys telling me that he did not know how to use a cork screw), we decided to correct the situation. As a graduation present, we rented a party bus to visit 3 wineries. I am so glad that we decided to visit Loew first. I had scheduled the tasting with Lois, one of the owners, and told her that our goal was to get this crew knowledgeable. She gave me the reassurance that we needed. When we got there, they had set up 2 picnic tables outside to be able to fit the 12 people in our group. The tasting consisted of 10 different wines. Lois arranged for her granddaughter Rachel to host the tasting. WOW! Rachel impressed us with her knowledge. She was funny, engaging and relatable. She explained the process of making wine from the selection of the grapes, the soil, irrigation to how to bottle the wine. We spent almost 2 hours with her. We would have stayed longer but we had 2 other wineries to visit. We liked the wine so much that we bought about a dozen bottles to take home. Their prices are very reasonable. At the end of the day, the group said that their wine was by far more superior than the wine from the other wineries (who shall remain nameless). Loew is a hidden gem! This is an adorable little family-run winery. Mr. And Mrs. Loew make all of the wine themselves, and it shows in how delicious the wine is. The tasting was $7 and you get a souvenir glass to take home with you. They rotate the wines based on the season. My parents visited a few months back and they had a strawberry wine that wasn't available when I visited. They did have a raspberry instead, which was also delicious. The wines ran around $20 a bottle. I really enjoyed visiting Loew Vineyards and would happily come back again! read more

My friend warned us before we got here, she said "okay it looks like we are going to a shed but trust me it's really good wine".. uh okay? Well she was right it was a tiny building at the end of the driveway and the wine was great. When we got inside we found Lois who is one of the owners along with her husband. She was so nice and walked us through each wine for our tasting which was $8 for 8ish wines (I lost count) and a glass to keep! Her and her husband have been doing this since the 80s and they just like what they do. The wine was great something for everyone. But the strawberry wine... oh my gawd.. it was like drinking strawberry jam in the most delicious way possible. Alright so the living social deal was totally a bust...honestly we may have been more pleased if we hadn't bought the living social deal. We picked up the $14 deal for 4 ppl and ventured out on Saturday. It is definitely one of the smaller wineries in the area and if you LOVE sweet wines this is the place for you. My husband loves sweet sugary wines, I love robust aged reds...so this was definitely not my place. Worth a visit for $3 per tasting, especially if you're exploring the wine trail and the staff is super friendly and nice. read more

Being one of the older vineyards in the area, Loew offers a significantly larger selection of wines than some of the other wineries close by. The tasting room is quite small but what it lacks in size, it makes up for with its friendly vibe and country feel. They have quite a few fruit wines of which the blueberry and strawberry jubilee were my favorite. Of the grape wines, I think the cab franc was the stand out for me although none of them really knocked my socks off. For me, going to Loew (and some of the older wineries in Maryland that often focus more on fruit wine) is more about the experience and supporting local small business than it is about expecting to find the world's best wine. From the outside Loew Vineyard may not look like much but once you step instead, time will start to slip aware because the experience is so welcoming! Loew Vineyard is a family owned winery and they explore beyond grapes for people who want something especially interesting such as Honey Mead! The wine tasting experience was fantastic because the wine makers wife completed the tasting and knew every wine from top to bottom. Normally if the wine is good, the price for cheaper bottles start at $25 but Loew Vineyard prices their wines accordingly to make sure the wines are well made and fit within a reasonable price range. During the tasting, the Loew family became more like friends than a business as they treat every customer well and do their best to keep a smile on everyone's face. While Loew is a smaller vineyard, we will always stop by to enjoy their new seasonal wines and receive amazing service! read more

Well ok we stopped here based on the previous reviews. Not much to see here. The wine wasn't bad just don't expect any kind of well kept grounds, seating or other typical winery amenities. We stayed a short time and left for a more up to date winery. I'm not going to sleight the Loews as I'm sure they are nice people, but the decor seems to be from 1971, and there is S**t all over the backyard . So there's that. If they spent a little money to update the place I'm sure they would attract more folks. read more

My wife, visiting friends, and I decided to try a new vineyard in the Maryland area for a change. I am really glad we stumbled on this one! I think all of us left there commenting on how we didn't taste anything we would consider bad. The tasting price was very reasonable for the amount you get to taste. The staff there were all very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines they were producing. They had a nice variety of dry to sweet wines to try, and some very interesting fruit wines. My wife and I left there with four bottles because we couldn't decide which ones to get! The vinyard itself is super cute and a great place to come bring a picnic lunch and just sit on the grass. I have stopped by this place twice while on the MD Wine Trail. Right near Linganore, which is one of the bigger ones on the trail, this is clearly the smallest. There is a narrow paved driveway that leads to maybe 5 parking spots. The place itself consists of a small garage/shed, inside there are two bars for tastings. The tastings cost $3 per person, and consist of about 8 wines that they have open for the day. There are a few people who rotate in and out, but usually Mrs. Loew herself will be there pouring (and putting bottles on special). The staff is friendly, much more so than at other nearby wineries. The setting is small and intimate and the air is so collegial that it just becomes a fun place to try wines. The wines themselves have a wide range, and best of all there are always some that are a little off the beaten path, if you will. Despite repeatedly attending wine tastings and festivals, Loew is pretty much the only place I actually buy from. Also, in my experience there are more grape wines than fruit wines here, which I think is good. They have some distinct and unique flavors that I haven't found elsewhere. If you want to try other bottles, they are usually fairly accommodating. If its busy or you want a new bottle opened to try, they might charge a small fee (as with other wineries in the area) but often they just pour for free. If you want to buy, prices range from $15-$25. clustered around $18. Mrs. Loew often puts bottles on special as well. They also have case discounts and shipping options if you are interested. They do lack amenities of other vineyards. There are no picnic or seating areas, and there isn't really any property to wander around, and there are no tours. They do offer souvenir glasses, shirts, and wine accessories, and they do take credit cards. read more

If you are into sweet or fruit wines this is a must stop for you! Loew offers a great value taste about 7 or so wines for $3 or $5 with a souvenir glass. Either way a great deal! The fruit wines are sweet but all tasted great. I left with a bottle of white and the strawberry wine. Which would have been great to have on a summer day, if it wasn't for the fact that I drank it two hours later at home...The tasting room is more simple and bare-bones but the wine is great. I think in some cases you end up paying for the atmosphere with tasting/bottles but not getting the delivery on product. This certainly wasn't the case. The location was beautiful, tasting room just slightly simple. Right down the road from Black Ankle if you just so happen to decide it's the perfect day for an impromptu Frederick/Carroll County wine tour (isn't always the right time?). Our visit to Loew Vineyards was just fine. We were the only people in the tasting room and were given a lot of attention. The gentlemen assisting us was not one of the owners, but definitely a hobbyist interested in wine and freely shared his opinions with us. I liked many of the wines, especially their berry wines. They would taste great on a summer evening! The tasting room looks a bit garage-like from the outside and a little sparse on the inside, but it got the job done. There wasn't much parking, but they did have spaces for buses (they must get a lot of wine tasting tour groups). We had a good visit, but if you only have time for one winery and crowds don't bother you, I would suggest Linganore down the street. Otherwise go to Loew for personalized attention and equally good wines. read more
