So glad we stumbled in this place! One of the few boutique bowling alleys in the US. This isn't bowling with the niece or nephew or Cosmic bowling like we were all guilty of going to in a high school. This is grown up, high end, trendy, I feel like I'm at a super swank bar in New York kind of bowling. Tons of plasma screens over the lanes do you can keep up with everything from Winter X Games to Madonna's latest music video. The beats are loud, lights are low, couches for lounging, and signature cocktails are flowing. Be warned though.... You should expect to pay for all of this posh ambiance. $50 an hour for a lane I think was the going rate. $5 for shoes (socks avail for purchase as well) and $12 cocktails. It's Vail though.... Shouldn't be a shocker. The boutique alley is located behind the restaurant and Bar that boasts the same contemporary design and upscale feel. The food was to die for!! Inventive combinations and vibrant flavors. We went with suggestions from our server and couldn't have been happier! Recommend the sweet potato appetizer and signature salad. This was my favorite place aside from the snow covered slopes while I was in Vail! And should note that coming in straight from the slopes is totally fine. This is a dual review as went twice while in Vail - once as an after dinner bar scene with heavy appetizers and they other as lunch after climbing and descending vail pass. Both were pretty good experiences. Service was average, though our visits didn't require exceptional service, so perhaps unfair to say. The food I had was quite good and the three bean tapenade was truly awesome, as was the gluten free bread. Drink selection was OK, their tonic water was actually bad and the bartender agreed and fixed my party a new drink. Cannot say enough great things about this place. Always money well spent in this establishment. I have been numerous times when friends come into town and even without bowling reservations available, they somehow always squeezed us in before or after our dinner. Food is upscale and delicious from apps to entrees, drinks as well, definitely go for the food or bowling both experiences are amazing, great atmosphere and their fantastic staff and customer service always somehow outdoes themselves from my previous experience there. My most recent evening there, we had a slight miscommunication with the reservation and manager Karlynn went above and beyond to provide world class hospitality in making sure our experience was top notch. The best way I can describe the food is... nonexistent. This is also how I'd describe the cocktails... nonexistent. We arrive for our reservation and were politely seated by the hostess and a short while later by our waiter. The first tip off should have been the angry faces on surrounding tables... but we ordered our cocktails and appetizers... and then departed half an hour later when the only think that came to our table was... of wait, nothing... yup after 30 minutes in solitude we left having never received a beverage, or our appetizers... First, I'll say it matters in a ski town if you're visiting in peak season or off season. I've now been to Bol once during each season; still haven't bowled though. Life just moves at a slower pace in the ski towns so that also includes restaurant service. It's not bad; just not likely what most are accustomed to, even if you live in nearby Denver, CO. The decor is modern and simple with big TVs by the bar (I appreciate the mtn biking videos on loop in the summertime!) and bowling in the back. It's a good separation so that you can talk and enjoy the dj in the dining room, while bowlers can enjoy the cracking of the bowling ball hitting the pins down. The pork bun appetizer is one of my favorties along with the veal sausage hot peppers, arugula, ricotta cheese pizza. Pretty good wine list and fair craft beer selection. Bol is effortlessly entertaining so it's a great place for apre-ski or post hike/bike adventure. read more

We have taken a annual trip to a different ski town for about 7 years now. Barry and Devon (maybe Donovan, whoever the manager was) at Bol showed us one of our absolutely best dining expereinces that we have ever had. Our group all agreed that we greatly preferred it to the highly acclaimed Flame restaurant at the Four Seaon's which we went to the next evening. From the ultra cool bowling balls to the truly amazing food and spirits, this was incredible. We will be going back when we come back to town. I personally had the Hamburger. Wow. My first time to stop and actually write a review of a spot we dined at. Let's start with--we have been to Vail the last six years for the week after Christmas. We love to eat. We love a good dining experience. This year was our first to try Bol. Holy crap. It was fantastic. It was New Year's Day and we were headed home the following day. College football was on the TV's in the bar and we had the perfect table to watch and eat. We decided to take our time. For starters: My 13 year old chose Lamb. My 15 year old chose the Ribs. I chose the shrimp toast and my husband did oysters. The spicy glaze and pine nuts that accompanied the ribs just got better with each bite. The lamb was so delicious my daughter said she would order it for her entree as well. The shrimp toast was a delight too and although I don't do oysters, my husband enjoyed them immensely. We did a second course and I chose the butter nut squash soup. Just slap me. It was rich and complex and I didn't want to share but I let my family sample a taste. My girls shared a caesar salad and my husband did the grilled avocado with crab meat. I love avocados. I love crab. I wish he would have given me another bite... (I was kind of selfish with my soup so I guess I understand) For the third course my 13 year old did the margarita pizza. This is a thing with her--the constant search for a perfect margarita pizza. I tasted it and did not love it. It was OK. My husband did "The dude abides" pizza and it was pretty good. My 15 year old did the steak frites. She is rarely impressed or excitable and she said multiple times how much she loved her steak. (We are Texan. We eat a lot of steak. Have been to a lot of amazing places where we have eaten steak. So when my 15 year old is impressed it says a lot) I chose the short rib stroganoff. It was pure comfort food. The only complaint I have regarding the food experience is we were much too stuffed for a dessert. That's too bad--but it gives us a good reason to return. The service was fantastic. I hate to sit at my table with a finished plate and not have anyone come and get it. But that never happened on this night. It was a rainy day in Vail and we got a lane reservation (call early if bad weather, by noon they were booked until 10 pm). The atmosphere is swank, clean and very cool. Bowling was $40 per lane, no minimums or pressure to buy food. We opted to eat there afterwards. They were VERY accommodating as our party grew from 8, to 10 to 13. Despite the high-end feel, it is a very accommodating space (bowling and restaurant) for families. The food was a huge surprise, it was great! Avocado toast was fresh and loaded. Little bol salad filled with shaved parmesan, dried cranberries and a nut of some type for some crunch. Crab soup was delicious. Grilled cheese was thick and cheesy and served with a side of tomato soup. Burgers, chicken sandwich, pizza.... thumbs up from all 13. Whether you "bol" or not, it's worth a stop. read more

We were super excited to bowl here for my 50th birthday with my husband and two sons. Yes, it wasn't cheap but the place is very cool! So we booked an hour. Service was great, bowling was fun. We had ONE frame to go...a tie breaker between my two sons (I was loosing) and since our one hour was up... to the minute... they shut us down! We could have wrapped it up in 5 minutes!! Snippy, short, rude, and unwilling to accommodate simple requests are just a few of the attributes in her arsenal of incompetence. Because we were a large group we were charged the requisite 20% gratuity. If I had a choice I would have given Anna a 5% tip (and that would have been generous). Then she tried to add an additional 20% when the members of the group split the bill. Dishonest on her part or just not paying attention? Not sure. When I heard we were going to dinner at a bowling alley I was more than a little apprehensive. But Bol is definitely not a normal bowling alley. The actual bowling alley is separated from the restaurant portion, and we couldn't even tell there were people bowling. We went in the middle of the summer, so the restaurant wasn't very busy. The food was delicious! Our group had the rocket & prosciutto pizza, butter peas & prosciutto salad, lobster farmstand salad, and the lobster roll and everyone was very happy with their food. The drinks were also good and they have a good mixture of interesting cocktails, local beer, and traditional wine and cocktail offerings. The service was also great. read more

My family and I have given Bōl many chances over the years and each visit is more apauling than the last. The food is sub-par at best but what really makes this place the worst spot in Vail is the rude, obnoxious staff. From the hostess in the dining room, to the wait staff, to the bowling alley desk clerk, I have yet to meet anyone without a major attitude in this dump. 3 of us stopped in for appetizers and an hour of bowling. The waitress said that an hour of bowling was $65. Not terribly high for Vail, but expensive for bowling. As it turns out, the bowling was $95 for an hour plus shoe rental. Food was good, service was ok, but certainly not worth $185 for an hour of bowling and a couple of appetizers. Staff is extremely rude and unhelpful. Paid $300 to reserve a lane on Christmas Day which included $125 of food/drink. Bill ended up being over $500 for 4 people. At those prices you'd expect the staff to be professional and focused on customer service. They were not. The worst were the two arrogant punks who work the bowling desk. They don't even look you in the eye when they talk to to you and immediately have an attitude that you are inconveniencing them. The food was awful. Don't order the ribs. We have loved this restaurant since it opened, but last night's experience soured us forever. First, the service was inexplicably slow -- there were plenty of servers but only 3 tables. We ordered draft beer and were told that the lines had been frozen for several days but they'd try to get us one anyway. The beers arrived in a cold glass, but the beer was WARM! (Get the lines fixed, folks!) The bigger disaster was the food. The burger, which has been stellar in the past, is now $23 -- yes TWENTY THREE DOLLARS for a regular sized burger and a small cup of fries -- nothing fancy. The $28 duck pot pie looked beautiful -- nice crust on the top, served in an attractive square bowl -- but it was cold inside. How does that make it out of the kitchen? We were so disillusioned that we only ate the burger (because we were hungry as heck by this point!) and then went to Pazzo's for a pizza! read more

Politely and kindly, we asked about the charge and Donovan marched over to our bowling lane and told us he's doing us a favor and could have charged us more. $10 Manhattans + $1 for Makers Mark + $1 for Rocks. even our server was like, "that can't be?!" Any respectable place wouldn't nickel and dollar you after already charging an expected ultra premium. Seriously soured our experience. Bol is a club that just happens to have a few bowling lanes. Bol is NOT a bowling alley that just happens to serve drinks. Describing this as a "small bowling alley" is just plain wrong. The wait staff all seem to have a PhD. in douchbaggery, and that's the primary reason for the low rating. The second reason for the low rating: $1 extra if you want your drink "on the rocks". That's right. They charge $1 for ice. I know Solaris has a European flair, but c'mon, don't spare the ice. Douche bag waiters are usually a sign of douche bag management. If not for crazy prices, mean servers, and bad management, this concept might have worked. When we come back to Vail next year, I predict BOL will be a not-so-fond memory. read more

I would've given Bol 4 stars but the service was absolutely horrible. I called to make reservations for a Saturday night and they didn't have a lane open until 11:30pm. I asked the girl on the phone what time they were open until and she responded with "depends". Ummm OK. You don't know what time your business closes? Odd. So we go for our 11:30 reservation, play one game and are halfway through the second one and Bol just shuts off the game (we literally couldn't finish it) and puts the lights on and says last call. Yes the place had emptied out, but it was only about 12:15am-again, it's a Saturday!- and we had just ordered another round of drinks. So we basically return our shoes and sit by the bar with the wait staff giving us the dirtiest looks as we finish our drinks. #1: why do you not have standard hours? #2: why are you shutting down our game while we are halfway through without warning, on a Saturday night at 12:15am?#3: if you knew you were about to shut the place down then you shouldn't have just given us a fresh round of drinks #4: you are in the service industry. The attitudes and rudeness of your staff is unacceptable The place is cool overall and has a fun vibe but I wouldn't come back based on the horrible experience I had. read more

The front of the establishment is a restaurant, the back is a high-end bowling set up with bowling lanes. We showed up to bowl and we were there ten minutes early for our reservation. Someone had broken the monitor above the lane, apparently by launching a ball 12 feet in the air on New Years Eve. Quite a feat. Which was a bit annoying not able to see anything, but that was fine. However, the touch screen system that is the only other way to see anything was also not working. It was malfunctioning so you could not enter in a game, players, or operate any part of the system. After being there 40 minutes and having to ask the staff for help on 4 different occasions, we were finally able to bowl after they did everything from their front desk for our lane. After the first 3 people bowled, the system crashed again. Everything had to be reset again from the managers desk. For a two hour reservation, we finally were able to bowl after 50 minutes. The real problem was the shady way they approached the reservation. They knew this lane was broken and they knew it was not working properly for days. Yet, they did not contact us about the problem in advance. Nor did they contact anyone else who has a reservation for this lane according to their staff. Reservations are held with a credit card and they have your phone number. They even called to confirm the reservation. When we got there they did not tell us anything about it either. Only after we had checked in and they sat us down did we figure all of this our. The lane should not be in use until repaired. Only after complaining and our multiple trips to ask for assitance did they offer up anything. While we were sitting there for our 45 minute wait, they would not give us any other lanes as those were booked at some point during our 2 hour reservation, even though several were not in use while we waited. The minimums for one lane for two hours range from $350 to $500 depending upon the time in the winter peak season. If you are going to charge that much, you better have a functioning bowling alley and not have some of the worst service I have ever experienced. We stayed for the rest of our reservation. With 5 minutes left, the system malfunctioned again and we decided to call it a day. We saw some people waiting on our way out and it turned out they were signed up for the lane we had just used. We told them they should ask for the bowling for free. We did not pay for any of the bowling after our experience. Even with the bowling for free, you pay an extremely high price for food and drinks. For example, 6 chicken wings are $12. A glass of good white wine one lady in our party ordered was $35 per glass. Both of those items were consistent with the prices of everything else. read more
