First, I'll say it matters in a ski town if you're visiting in peak season or off season. I've now been to Bol once during each season; still haven't bowled though. Life just moves at a slower pace in the ski towns so that also includes restaurant service. It's not bad; just not likely what most are accustomed to, even if you live in nearby Denver, CO. The decor is modern and simple with big TVs by the bar (I appreciate the mtn biking videos on loop in the summertime!) and bowling in the back. It's a good separation so that you can talk and enjoy the dj in the dining room, while bowlers can enjoy the cracking of the bowling ball hitting the pins down. The pork bun appetizer is one of my favorties along with the veal sausage hot peppers, arugula, ricotta cheese pizza. Pretty good wine list and fair craft beer selection. Bol is effortlessly entertaining so it's a great place for apre-ski or post hike/bike adventure. read more

We have taken a annual trip to a different ski town for about 7 years now. Barry and Devon (maybe Donovan, whoever the manager was) at Bol showed us one of our absolutely best dining expereinces that we have ever had. Our group all agreed that we greatly preferred it to the highly acclaimed Flame restaurant at the Four Seaon's which we went to the next evening. From the ultra cool bowling balls to the truly amazing food and spirits, this was incredible. We will be going back when we come back to town. I personally had the Hamburger. My husband and I decided to go to Bol for our one year wedding anniversary. Overall we had a great time! The tuna tartare is amazing- we highly recommended that. The atmosphere is modern and fun. Our server was Megan. She was great- super cute girl! kept our drinks coming and was very attentive. Go Megan B! We had 1 app, and shared an entree, we both had two cocktails- and the bill was over $250! Wow! Shocker! Bowling is super expensive (this is the only reason for 4 stars)!!! Wow. My first time to stop and actually write a review of a spot we dined at. Let's start with--we have been to Vail the last six years for the week after Christmas. We love to eat. We love a good dining experience. This year was our first to try Bol. Holy crap. It was fantastic. It was New Year's Day and we were headed home the following day. College football was on the TV's in the bar and we had the perfect table to watch and eat. We decided to take our time. For starters: My 13 year old chose Lamb. My 15 year old chose the Ribs. I chose the shrimp toast and my husband did oysters. The spicy glaze and pine nuts that accompanied the ribs just got better with each bite. The lamb was so delicious my daughter said she would order it for her entree as well. The shrimp toast was a delight too and although I don't do oysters, my husband enjoyed them immensely. We did a second course and I chose the butter nut squash soup. Just slap me. It was rich and complex and I didn't want to share but I let my family sample a taste. My girls shared a caesar salad and my husband did the grilled avocado with crab meat. I love avocados. I love crab. I wish he would have given me another bite... (I was kind of selfish with my soup so I guess I understand) For the third course my 13 year old did the margarita pizza. This is a thing with her--the constant search for a perfect margarita pizza. I tasted it and did not love it. It was OK. My husband did "The dude abides" pizza and it was pretty good. My 15 year old did the steak frites. She is rarely impressed or excitable and she said multiple times how much she loved her steak. (We are Texan. We eat a lot of steak. Have been to a lot of amazing places where we have eaten steak. So when my 15 year old is impressed it says a lot) I chose the short rib stroganoff. It was pure comfort food. The only complaint I have regarding the food experience is we were much too stuffed for a dessert. That's too bad--but it gives us a good reason to return. The service was fantastic. I hate to sit at my table with a finished plate and not have anyone come and get it. But that never happened on this night. I have been numerous times when friends come into town and even without bowling reservations available, they somehow always squeezed us in before or after our dinner. Food is upscale and delicious from apps to entrees, drinks as well, definitely go for the food or bowling both experiences are amazing, great atmosphere and their fantastic staff and customer service always somehow outdoes themselves from my previous experience there. My most recent evening there, we had a slight miscommunication with the reservation and manager Karlynn went above and beyond to provide world class hospitality in making sure our experience was top notch. The best way I can describe the food is... nonexistent. This is also how I'd describe the cocktails... nonexistent. We arrive for our reservation and were politely seated by the hostess and a short while later by our waiter. It was a rainy day in Vail and we got a lane reservation (call early if bad weather, by noon they were booked until 10 pm). The atmosphere is swank, clean and very cool. Bowling was $40 per lane, no minimums or pressure to buy food. We opted to eat there afterwards. They were VERY accommodating as our party grew from 8, to 10 to 13. Despite the high-end feel, it is a very accommodating space (bowling and restaurant) for families. The food was a huge surprise, it was great! Avocado toast was fresh and loaded. Little bol salad filled with shaved parmesan, dried cranberries and a nut of some type for some crunch. Crab soup was delicious. Grilled cheese was thick and cheesy and served with a side of tomato soup. Burgers, chicken sandwich, pizza.... thumbs up from all 13. Whether you "bol" or not, it's worth a stop. read more

We were super excited to bowl here for my 50th birthday with my husband and two sons. Yes, it wasn't cheap but the place is very cool! So we booked an hour. Service was great, bowling was fun. We had ONE frame to go...a tie breaker between my two sons (I was loosing) and since our one hour was up... to the minute... they shut us down! We could have wrapped it up in 5 minutes!! Because we were a large group we were charged the requisite 20% gratuity. If I had a choice I would have given Anna a 5% tip (and that would have been generous). Then she tried to add an additional 20% when the members of the group split the bill. Dishonest on her part or just not paying attention? Not sure. Watch out for this place - I know it's Vail, but Donovan (some unhappy angry bartender) charged us for ROCKS, otherwise known as ice. $250+ tab between 4 people and he charges us for ice. $1 for each drink w/ ice and they don't inform you of the ICE charge. Politely and kindly, we asked about the charge and Donovan marched over to our bowling lane and told us he's doing us a favor and could have charged us more. $10 Manhattans + $1 for Makers Mark + $1 for Rocks. even our server was like, "that can't be?!" Any respectable place wouldn't nickel and dollar you after already charging an expected ultra premium. Seriously soured our experience. When I heard we were going to dinner at a bowling alley I was more than a little apprehensive. But Bol is definitely not a normal bowling alley. The actual bowling alley is separated from the restaurant portion, and we couldn't even tell there were people bowling. We went in the middle of the summer, so the restaurant wasn't very busy. The food was delicious! Our group had the rocket & prosciutto pizza, butter peas & prosciutto salad, lobster farmstand salad, and the lobster roll and everyone was very happy with their food. Bol is a club that just happens to have a few bowling lanes. Bol is NOT a bowling alley that just happens to serve drinks. Describing this as a "small bowling alley" is just plain wrong. The wait staff all seem to have a PhD. in douchbaggery, and that's the primary reason for the low rating. The second reason for the low rating: $1 extra if you want your drink "on the rocks". That's right. They charge $1 for ice. I know Solaris has a European flair, but c'mon, don't spare the ice. Douche bag waiters are usually a sign of douche bag management. If not for crazy prices, mean servers, and bad management, this concept might have worked. When we come back to Vail next year, I predict BOL will be a not-so-fond memory. read more

I would've given Bol 4 stars but the service was absolutely horrible. I called to make reservations for a Saturday night and they didn't have a lane open until 11:30pm. I asked the girl on the phone what time they were open until and she responded with "depends". Ummm OK. You don't know what time your business closes? Odd. So we go for our 11:30 reservation, play one game and are halfway through the second one and Bol just shuts off the game (we literally couldn't finish it) and puts the lights on and says last call. Yes the place had emptied out, but it was only about 12:15am-again, it's a Saturday!- and we had just ordered another round of drinks. So we basically return our shoes and sit by the bar with the wait staff giving us the dirtiest looks as we finish our drinks. #1: why do you not have standard hours? #2: why are you shutting down our game while we are halfway through without warning, on a Saturday night at 12:15am?#3: if you knew you were about to shut the place down then you shouldn't have just given us a fresh round of drinks #4: you are in the service industry. We visited Bol vail as part of a fun thing to do for our wedding week in Colorado. There was a group of 24 of us. The first strike was when we tried to tell the server before anyone ordered that there would be separate checks. She said that it was very difficult to do that and that normally they just put it all on one check and let the table pay how they want. I run a restaurant so I know that was just the server being lazy. After she said that she would figure it out we all ordered our drinks. After that the speed of service was extremely slow. It was very difficult to get more drinks because the server was rarely at the table. 3 of the people in my group went to the bar and bought drinks because of this. After that we ordered the food and it took 45 minutes to come out. The food was good though so make sure the people in the kitchen get props. The manager was clueless to what was going on. I got up and told him what was going on and he just smiled and said that they only had three servers taking care of the whole restaurant. He apologized and said that he would try to get the food out to our table faster. We were late for our bowling reservation because of how long dinner took. Then the bowling alley charged us more than we were quoted over the phone when we spoke to someone last February to set it up. Finally, nothing was ever done for our group considering that we were celebrating a wedding and a birthday that we told them about up front. On the way out the manager again asked how everything was and our response was ok from one person and not great from another and he just smiled and said thank you for coming and have a good night. Had THE worst experience at Bol Vail. Never in my life have I been treated so rudely while with my wife and kids. I don't know If the owner lets his employees drink while on the job but everyone that worked there seemed intoxicated. I go to Vail, CO every year with my family and stay for a week to ski/snowboard, shop, eat, and have a great time. I know that my family and I will NEVER go back to this establishment after the kind of treatment we received. The owner has the "better than you attitude" and will do nothing to ensure that you and your family will have a great time no matter what. My family and I have given Bōl many chances over the years and each visit is more apauling than the last. The food is sub-par at best but what really makes this place the worst spot in Vail is the rude, obnoxious staff. From the hostess in the dining room, to the wait staff, to the bowling alley desk clerk, I have yet to meet anyone without a major attitude in this dump. 3 of us stopped in for appetizers and an hour of bowling. The waitress said that an hour of bowling was $65. Not terribly high for Vail, but expensive for bowling. As it turns out, the bowling was $95 for an hour plus shoe rental. Food was good, service was ok, but certainly not worth $185 for an hour of bowling and a couple of appetizers.
