Creative, unique, and modern hot pot place! When I walked in, I connected my phone number with the Ipad so that my party could receive updates about our table. We walked around for 15-20 minutes when we got the notification that our table was ready, which isn't so bad for a crowded weekend during lunch hour. When we walked in, we were seated and scanned the QR code to order. They had a vast selection of different hot pots and they listed out all of the contents in a comprehensible fashion. We ordered the tangy beef appetizer, two cokes, Taiwanese and Beef (mild) and added on ramen and beef. Our order came out to around 19 dollars per person, which was pretty affordable. They gave complimentary seaweed appetizers before and the service was relatively nice. However, when we requested more ice water and ramen, they forgot about our ramen order for around 10 minutes and didn't bring the refills of water. The tangy beef was a favorite; it was flavorful, a little sour and pretty spicy. The portions were a little small but it was good nonetheless. The Taiwanese was the spicier of the two; I recommend skipping if you have no spice tolerance, like me. It had ramen, generous amounts of cabbage, pork blood, mushrooms, and more. The Beef was the less spicy of the two and had cabbage, beef, fish cakes, tomato, corn and a lot more. Even though the dishes look shallow, they are VERY filling. Overall, we had a great experience. The restaurant is super modern and clean and the concept of the place is nice too. They keep a live fire under the small pots, so it is always nice and hot. I have been here in the past and remember loving the food. My most recent visit was a bit disappointing considering my previous experiences. I'm not sure if I came on an off day, but I ordered the lamb pot, and the flavor was ok but didn't "wow" me. We also ordered the holy cow and spicy cumin lamb appetizers. I will say they were both pretty good though I definitely preferred Holy Cow. The service was pretty efficient, and the restaurant had a pretty nice ambiance overall, definitely not too dressy but could work for a more-upscale-than-casual date night. Overall, I might give this another try because of my previous experiences. If it were based on this experience alone, I would say there are probably tastier, cheaper options that are not too far away. read more

Parking is a little difficult; it's lot parking. You will need to park and walk over. If you don't need to be in Pasadena, I recommend going to other SGV locations. I ordered the Angus bowl, and it was very flavorful. However, for the money, I felt like there was a lot of filler (vegetables and noodles) but not enough protein. While I was still eating, my wife who had already paid and was done dining simply came over to sit next to me to wait. She did not order anything else. I asked multiple times and then 10 minutes later after asking, they said our order was lost so we had to reorder. They didn't offer anything at the time so I figured they would give a discount later on. We waited an additional 20 minutes for our food to come out and they forgot our drink and appetizer. I then asked for the bill and no inconvenience discount was applied despite waiting an hour for our food. I had to ask for a discount at the front. Came during one of my LA trip. Ordered the Taiwanese pot and it was amazing. Food was great that I was able to share one pot with some sides with my plus one. Spice level was on point, we couldn't stop eating. Location was spacious, but they were busy. I had to wait about 45min before getting seated for two on a Tuesday night around 7:00pm. Only giving this spot a 4 star and not a 5 on my first review was due to my party ordering first before several other parties. We didn't get our food until after the 2-3 parties that sat after us. I love Boiling Point so it was amazing to find it now in my neighborhood. This location is directly across from 85 bakery. There are lots of parking structures close by, so parking is not an issue Hot pot is basically a set of pot simmering in brother on a portable burner. In this place, the food is already cook and brought to your table. There are so much variety of hotpot. I have tried Korean Bean Paste, Beef and Milk Creamy Curry. There are all very delicious. First time trying the boiling point experience and I was impressed :). The flavors and options were pretty straightforward. For those who may not be as familiar might be in for a commitment (like lamb, intestine, pork blood, tomato based stuff, etc) but I think the adventurous know what they sign up for. Individual bowls were cool and made it fun to really enjoy your stuff. The brown rice is so recommended if you usually don't like it- it's hearty and delicious - goes well with soup. At first I didn't like there wasn't a light beer option. But no alcohol is better :). I'm not a dessert person, but I recommend sharing something if you're with a bigger table cause it's a nice topper to the experience. The service was pretty awesome and fast. Server was very prompt with everything, I came in at 10:15pm by myself and was out by 11pm. Satisfied my cravings. Jin tea is just a really nice perk, $2 off large drink with purchase of hot pot. Came here on a Sunday late close to 9pm and there was no wait. We walked from my place so didn't have to deal with parking but there are structures nearby. The CONS: the lady who first greeted us took us to the tiniest table for 2 in the middle of a bunch of other full tables when there were clearly so much space on the other side of the restaurant with at least 7-8 open larger tables. When I asked if we could be seated at one of those, she was very huffy saying that they were closing that section soon. So I asked to at least sit at the end of this larger table where there was a group of 6 with 4 open seats at the end. When my bf and I tried to sit next to each other she was kind of rude about it saying we'd have to sit across from each other. The whole time we were there, no one got seated in the 2 empty ones next to us and I ended up even using it to put my purse and sweater on. Another annoying thing was when I tried to order something other than rice, they said that it would be an up-charge which is fine if other sides are more expensive but I'd expect to be charged the difference of the price not the charge on top of it. For example I believe rice was $1.70 on its own and I wanted udon which was $2.65, I would have to pay the straight $2.65 and not the difference. Egg and vermicelli were both also $1.70 but I'd have to pay the full $1.70 for it if I wanted to sub it for the rice. Veggies are a pretty pricey as a side as well ($3.25 for an order of bok choy). The PROS: the waiter who took and brought out our order was really nice. I ordered the Japanese miso and my bf ordered the Korean bean paste both mild. It was actually a good portion of food with lots of veggies and decent amount of meat. I wish I could've subbed a few items but given the response I got about subbing the rice they prob would've ended up charging me $35+ for my bowl of soup based on all the substitutions I would've liked. Taste was also great, I loved the miso and my bf said he really liked his as well. Would I come back? MAYBE. I like that it's open later than a good amount of other restaurants here in Pasadena but given the other options for hot pot in the SGV area and the not so stellar service I got here, it's not in my top choices. read more

Ambiance: 5/5 (Nothing to really note other than it was relaxed. And music and noise level was just right). They have several locations called Boiling Point but this particular location is titled at the end, "Concept." The reason why that is, is because this location provides healthier options on the menu and state they use higher quality grade meats. I can't entirely testify that notion because I haven't been to the other Boiling Point locations. However, my sister has and she didn't really notice the difference in terms of the menu/ or the taste. Only, she preferred this location due to the small size, cleanliness, and no wait time. I love Boiling Point, but I will not be coming back toBoiling Point Concept. I want to start off by saying the staff were on top of things and there was no wait. What I didn't like was the price since a normal hotpot here is almost $5 more than at a regular store. The only difference major between a regular Boiling Point and Boiling Point Concept is that they sell boba from the boba shop next door and they have brown rice instead of vermicelli noodles. I will say I haven't had to wait AT ALL versus the other locations, I'd wait anywhere from 20-45 mins depending on the time of day. I've been to this location during the lunch hour on a weekend, weekday/weekend nights and still no wait times. As for my most recent experience, I accidentally left my keys on the table. My boyfriend and I were probably close to the end of the block, and I hear behind us, "excuse me! you left your keys!" One of their workers chased after us. He could've left it at the restaurant and waited for me to call or come back to retrieve it, but no! He went out of this way to run it back to us! This was one of the many locations of boiling point. Service - the reason why this place was not 5 stars was because of the handful of female servers here who need to lose the attitude. The young Asian lady who took our order did not approach us in a friendly way, but rather a demanding tone. We did have to ask about 2 questions because it was our first time there and my friend was vegan. We saw an eye roll and tone changed from demanding to annoyed, despite how bubbly and friendly we asked. When we flagged down a different server who was a Black lady standing by the registers, she came to the table without saying a word. There was an awkward silence until one of my other friends asked for water. She just walked away - no reply and no comment. She did bring the waters though, again with no reply or no comment. You work as a server, this is not high school, learn some hospitality. Food - surprisingly really good! I am a hot pot fanatic and this is probably one of the tastiest and reasonably priced selections! I got the angus beef with an extra order of beef belly. Even without the extra meat order, I felt like the regular portion would've been the perfect filling. The broth was full of flavor and warmth, especially during a cold rainy day. Came a little after they opened so we were able to get a table easily but the place filled up pretty quickly afterwards. The place has a nice, dark-but-not-too-dark, modern ambiance. They have QR code menus you can scan, hanging from the tables or a helpful, giant menu with pictures towards the front. I asked how the spice level is because I love spice. The server recommended mild and to add spicy sauce from the table to adjust but I didn't want my soup to be too salty so I ordered medium. It wasn't spicy haha. I got the lamb and my brother and his fiance shared the tomato hot soup which he said was surprisingly really good. The serving size is pretty big. I had leftovers to bring home and it was just enough for my brother and his fiance (with an additional serving of rice). I think my only gripe is that the prices are so steep now. Got the Miso broth in medium spicy, wasn't too spicy but great flavor and they have some pastes and sauces on the side to add to the broth which are extremely yummy, my favorite one was the garlic chilli oil Verrryyy spicy and tasty. One thing I wasn't too fond of was the fact that you can't choose what you do and don't want in the broth it all comes in it already, obviously not an AYCE place and it does cost extra to add more meats, veggies etc. but overall the meat and veggies were tasty only thing I wasn't a fan of was the mushroom but other than that it was really good and our waiter was sooooo sweet and amazing! I used to love Boiling Point but the quality has gone down and the price has gone up again. I feel like the prices increase every single time I go. Sadly, it is way too expensive now for what you get and it's no longer worth it. The last time we went, it cost $18+ for one pot. If you order one of the larger pots, it's even more expensive. My go-to is the beef pot. They ask you how spicy you want your soup but I feel like it's arbitrary - sometimes I order it mild and it's super spicy, sometimes I order it medium and there's no spice. The broth was flavorful but I was disappointed that there was barely any meat or veggies this time, especially with the price increases. This location is not that big and is situated in a busy area of Pasadena so don't be surprised if there is a wait. The tables are very close together but they do have plastic dividers between them if that makes you feel better. Metered street parking can be hard to find but there are a few parking structures nearby. The Park & Walk structures give you 90 minutes free. The other structures either charge a flat rate or an hourly fee that starts right away. High prices, decreased quality, and long wait times. I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

My favorite is the Taiwanese Hotpot because I love spicy and savory... the beef brisket, ramen noodles, clams and shrimp explode tangy, spicy, sweet flavors all at once and are especially soul-warming on those cold days... for those who have more of a sour palette, try the Thai Tomato, it's your tom-yum dreams come true. I've come here several times; customer service is good, never had to wait too long if there was a line, and quality is consistent.
