California Hot Pot is closed until October! We'd always avoided BP because of multiple negative reviews related to its deteriorating quality and decreasing portion size. But October is just too long of a wait to satisfy my hotpot craving! So we caved and decided to give it a try! Overall - I thought the portion size was a lot bigger than expected! The soups were super flavorful but not too salty. I love how beautiful everything was packaged - rice, condiments, utensils. So far, my fav has been their miso! The place was busy tonight, but we got in without too long of a wait and our server got to us rather quickly. The place is small, but not so small where you feel cramped. Our food came out a moment later and everyone at our table got out pots around the same time. Overall, our service was good. When we were done, they were quick to clean up our table. I ordered the House Special at medium spice which I thoroughly enjoyed. Personally, it wasn't too spicy for me (I'd still recommend people to pick no spice if they can't handle spice; mild may be too much based on friends' opinions), but it was hot. The fire had my pot boiling for some time, but it's on me for not cooling down my spoonful. I enjoy dipping protein into a dip I made with the sauces available at the table (garlic bean sauce, garlic soy sauce, I believe a chili oil, chili plum powder). Each pot comes with a bowl of rice which you can choose brown or white. It's a BIG serving overall, so come hungry. This could very much be the only meal you need for the day. So check their menu online first. I ordered the Spicy Lamb Pot. I love that their packaging is done so well! They have all the sauces in one package and the utensils already pre-packaged. Their Tupperware is also really nice. Taste - their spice level is a little spicy for me so I always get mild and add hot sauce myself. For reference, my spice level is I think hot Cheetos makes me cry and sweat. Since we got this to go, everything in the pot was already cooked. They cracked an egg and it was lodged deep inside the soup so it wasn't cooked all the way, but yolky (perfect for how I like my egg in my hot pot). I think about this place almost daily, it's so good. It does get very busy though and you can't make any reservations, so just make sure you account for a 30min-1hr wait. I get the Taiwanese Spicy (~$18), which comes in the flaming spice level. It's definitely on the spicier side and it's easy to accidentally inhale the spice with the spoon (so ask for the other type of spoon). Really good, but piping hot so it takes a while to eat. I'm also a fan of the regular beef one, since it has more of a tomato flavor and definitely lighter on the spice. As for the service, I've never had the wait staff check up on me as often as they did this place. They're so accommodating - you can ask them to turn off your fire, change the type of spoons, get more broth, etc. They also give you a tasty little jelly thing at the end! read more

Yesterday we were on our way to Arcadia from San Fernando and while driving we looked up the location. To see that the restaurant closed T 8:30, so we opted to go to the Pasadena location. Because they closed at 10 pm. After paying for parking we walk up to the location only to be told they close at 8:30 pm. However the sign says they close at 10. This was very disappointing because we wanted soup. I had raved about it, it was open according to the website and sign on the door. False advertising. I'm rating one star solely for the lack of ownership to correct the signage and makes me Wonder if the owner is aware of this. When the rice came in our bowls, just by looking at it I could tell it was not cooked. All grains were loose and dry. Not to mention you could see the very white non cooked internals. (See photo). I know there are a ton boiling points around the area--this is a review solely based for this one in Old Town Pasadena, as it's walking distance from me. We both ordered the Angus beef and I got the one with "extra Angus beef"-- hey, don't judge, I was hungry and I'm a highkey carnivore. Each style is about 15$ + mine was 4.50$ for the extra meat which was plenty extra, yet I didn't share it ;) The price isn't bad as it's plenty of food for one person or even 2 to share. The concept is that it's your own personalized hotpot and the servers come and light it up for you. It's definitely not like Shabu Shabu or other hot pot spots where you can adjust the temperature. You can ask the server to turn it off if it gets too boiling-- I did midway eating and my food stayed heated until I was done. The broth is flavorful and if you're one to think something is spicy, get mild. You can always make the broth spicier if it's not enough but my mild had a very good spice kick to it. They give you pickled seaweed as a free appetizer and I ordered the garlic pork belly appetizer, which was good. The service here was quick both times I've been here (once on a very busy Friday night and recently on a dead Wednesday night). This location has seats facing the outside of green street in old town for solo diners or friends who like to people watch. And there's a good amount of booths inside for groups. I know that whenever I walk by on weekend nights and even lunch, there's always a wait. They have a ticket they give you and will text you when a table is ready. Overall, I would come back to this location specifically bc I like the atmosphere. I've never tried to go to the other locations I've seen because they're usually in cramped parking lots with a bunch of other Asian businesses and I get stressed parking in those type of parking lots lol. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE !!! Service : The menu says endless rice with the purchase of a hot pot, but what they don't say is your waiter will NEVER stop by to even ask how your doing. We went 40 minutes with no water, no rice refill, and NO SERVICE. When we asked for ice they said "no ice" even though they sell drinks with ice. Everything after that they would say "we don't have..." so basically they have nothing. Thankfully this place was opened for Thanksgiving. Beautiful thing about eating here on a holiday is that parking was free on the street. Prices here were a lot more expensive than the other locations and I missed the lunch price by like 10 mins. Servers were pretty quick with requests and the restaurant was pretty clean. I want to start out by saying that I usually love Boiling Point, but my experience at this location was unfortunately not a very good one. We were seated next to a window and I immediately saw the numerous handprints and dead flies on the window. I almost wish I didn't notice, but it made me look around to see that the sauce containers were crusted with dried up sauce, and the plexiglass seat dividers were also quite dirty. Although I tried to ignore it, the pandemic has made me extra paranoid about the cleanliness of restaurants. I unfortunately lost my appetite and left more than half of my soup, that I would normally finish by myself. It was hard writing this review, as the soup tasted good as always and the servers were so nice. UGHHHH roach alert! Came with my friend right at opening yesterday 10/16/23 and were seated immediately. Server brought water and the seaweed side dish but to our horror as she set the plate down a ROACH ran across the table. We all screamed. Don't know where it came from (the sauce dishes already set out on the table maybe?). Server apologized and one male kitchen staff came out to investigate but nothing was really done (no cleaning no searching no nothing). It was a small roach but disgusting nonetheless. My friend really wanted to eat here so we just moved tables. Unfortunately. Should have left immediately. Also they don't honor the lunch time special with an included drink at this location. I didn't know Pasadena had a BP, so was pretty pleased to come here for dinner. The parking lot (90 min free) is across the street so it's convenient and you're not scrambling for parking. You enter into the restaurant, and put in your party size. You can either grab a number or put in your cell phone for text notification. I opted for the text and so walked out and looked at stores for a bit. There were a number of people outside but the line wasn't too long. I think I got a text notification in like 15 minutes. We both ordered the BP classic, namely bc we both didn't want noodles in our soups. The BP Classic comes w rice instead. The soup was nice and spicy and had a good amount of stuff in it. We also got an oolong tea, unsweetened, which was from next door (Jin tea). Pretty good. The servers were kind and helpful. I really like Boiling Point as they have a variety of veggies/meats in their pots and their broth and sauces are flavorful. I usually order mild spice, but for Boiling Point I have to order no spice as their mild is more of a medium. What's cool about this boiling point is that it's connected with Jin Tea Shop, so you can order these drinks alongside your hot pot. One con is that the restaurant is pretty small, so you most likely have to wait longer to get seated compared to other locations. In addition, they don't offer vermicelli here as an option and only have white rice and brown rice. There are individual tables here, but the center of the restaurant has a long table used to seat multiple parties. I found it to be kind of uncomfortable as you're pretty close to other people and you can overhear each others' conversations. Nonetheless, I assume the layout is to accommodate more customers in the small restaurant. Overall, I'd give a 4/5 for the food but a 3/5 for the convenience (no vermicelli, long wait time, tight seating). I would come back whenever I'm craving hot pot, but I'd definitely go during the less busy hours. read more

TLDR; Your personal Taiwanese hot pot served with unlimited soup refills, and a variety of choices. Easy wait, fast service, and reasonable prices. My friend and I came here on a Saturday at 7pm, and were seated within 10 minutes. The only BP I've tried other than this location is in the one in Norcal. What I liked about BP Concept is that it offers more healthy varieties of hot pot, such as the curry milk and angus beef. I got the BP Classic with 2 extra servings of quail eggs and it was great. The food came out super quick, which was lifegiving to our starving stomachs. I thought it was weird how the additional quail eggs I ordered came out BEFORE the hot pot. Because I was hungry, I ended up eating the eggs without ever dunking them in the soup LOL. Each hot pot comes with a serving of white or brown (actually purple! which is even better!) rice. I also thought it was weird how they light your personal hot pot after they serve it to you...even though it's already hot. The fire caused the soup to steam, and burned my eyes. It also made the soup too hot to drink. We ended up asking the servers to put out the fire. The food was satisfying and hit the spot, but wasn't noteworthy or particularly foodgasmic. All of us had ordered their Angus Beef hot pot and our vegetarian friend had gotten their Mushroom Delight hot pot and we had ordered a few extra sides to our pot. They give you a complementary small dish of pickled seaweed at your table when youre seated. Other wise you would have to order appetizers. I had gotten their garlic pork belly appetizer and I really enjoyed it. I shared it among my coworkers and they all really loved it. It was very thinly sliced and was pretty good. Went very well with my hot pot soup. I had ordered the Angus beef with medium spicy. I was surprised how spicy my pot came out. Felt like it was more hot than medium spicy but it was still good. My coworker had ordered a side of bok choy and when they brought it to her, it literally doesn't look like bok choy, it was more like chopped lettuce leaves. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and we were all very full and satisfied. Overall, I don't like boiling point for the fact that I don't get to add in my veggies as needed. Everything is already combined in your boiling pot of soup which can cause your veggies to become very soggy as one of my coworker didn't enjoy his veggies soaked. TIP: DO NOT ORDER THEIR COKE ! It's bottled coca cola but their glass bottle is SOOO small and they charge you about $2 for it when you can get a tall glass bottle for $1 elsewhere. My guy and I were deciding between sushi and hotpot but the usual places only open till 8-9pm on a weekday but then we saw that the Boiling Point in Pasadena opens till 11pm and it was a pretty chilly night and it's been a hot minute since I've been to BP so... hotpot it is! (Breathe, May, breathe) We got there around 9pm and the place was surprisingly crowded. Crowded, not full, yet we were still told to wait outside for about 5-10 minutes. We ordered the house special and the beef pot. It was a good 15-20 minute wait before our pots came out. Luckily, we had Wordle to keep us occupied and a first date happening the next table over that I was able to eavesdrop. Despite the slow service, the food hit the spot. Wait can be terrible if you come during the dinner rush, but it's worth the wait. The menu is straightforward and in your face when you walk into the establishment. I love curry and I ordered the milk cream curry hot pot in mild. For spice levels they have no spice and the basic mild, medium and hot. I ordered mine in mild and it was perfect this time around. I want to be brave and try medium, but I'm afraid if it's too much to handle I won't be able to enjoy the soup. The curry was really good and definitely a favorite of mine. The hot pot also comes with a choice of brown or white rice..a plus! There is a downside though and it is that they do not put much meat in the hot pot. The majority is vegetables. I love BPC, and it's my favorite place for hot pot in all of L.A.! Traditional hot pot can be fun, but I feel like it's more of an activity rather than a great dining experience, as you're essentially just boiling random stuff for an hour and a half. BCP is a much more effective take on hot pot in the sense that you still get the fun warmth and intimacy that traditional hot pot offers, without needing to cook your own food or risk making something bland or overcooked. I love how BPC has several different options with totally different flavor profiles, so there's always something to suit your craving. Everything I've ordered at BCP is delicious, and they do a great job with service and presentation. The food is also well-priced and the portion sizes are more than generous. Sadness, the boiling point in my memory is around $12 per person and we ended up paying $20+ pp after tax and tip. When did inflation make things so pricey? Aside from the price tag, everything else was about the same as any other boiling point. I got the lamb pot and it was very much exactly how I remembered it to be. I was sad they didn't have the stinky tofu one on the menu anymore, because that one is usually my go to. It's tough to find parking around here, you'll have to pay meter parking or in one of the paid parking structures and walk over. I came on a weekend for lunch and there was no wait, but the restaurant was about 80% capacity.
