My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting bikes since the gyms have been closed. We went to a couple of other bicycle shops and none of them had very much to choose from, nor did they have variety. Due to Covid restrictions, not too many people are able to go into the store at a time, so you may need to wait in line outside. BUT, the line is worth the wait! We were helped by Josh who was AWESOME! He was very knowledgeable about various brands, made sure to ask what our price range was, and the type of terrain we were looking to ride on. He was also able to answer all our questions and be completely honest with us (instead of selling us a ridiculously expensive bike that had a bunch of a gadgets we didn't need). He also had a sense a humor, which made it easier to talk to him about the bikes and feel comfortable with making a big purchase like this (let's face it, bicycles are an investment). I'll definitely be going back for any of my bike needs, questions, and repairs. read more

TLDR: Dave is awesome! Saved the day! So I live and work downtown and bicycles are my main source of transportation. About a month ago, my girlfriends backyard got broken into and my brand spankin new, 2 weeks old, still-got-bubble-wrap-on-it, Trek got stolen. The thief cut it loose with bolt cutters and rode it off as I chased him down the street at about 4am. Renters insurance gave me pennies on the dollar but I ended up using that money to buy someone's old beat up Giant from craigslist. The "new" Giant isn't the prettiest, but it was nice to have wheels again. I didn't care. I didn't have to walk anymore. Fast forward to last week, I was working overtime on a Friday and I come out to see my front wheel got stolen. Wow. Quick release... should have pulled it off and locked it in my lock. Can't catch a break. This weekend I dedicated Saturday to finding a new wheel. I figured, for what I needed, Craigslist, Walmart or something would do. I just wanted something that rolled. But nope, Craigslist couldn't save me this time. I went to Walmart, they didn't have wheels. They had bikes for about $100, and I was considering just buying one. But I couldn't let myself slip into desperation and I decided to check my other options. I went to a big sports store in Folsom, but they didn't have bicycle wheels. I went to CostCo, no bikes and definitely no wheels. Then I went to a bike shop in Folsom, but the cheapest they had was going to run me $120+. That was almost what I paid for the Giant? Damn. The employee shows me where the bike locks are (thanks..) We were on the verge of giving up. My girlfriend and I went across town to Hagens Orange Freeze to soften the disappointment. On the way back, I remembered that there was this bicycle store off sunrise I always wanted to check out. We were in the area, why not? We enter Bob's Cycle Center, and it's super nice. There are like 5 guys helping people, we're greeted by one of them, another employee is riding a bicycle around the store (presumably checking gears for someone or something). Now this is a bicycle shop. The optimism is returning. My girlfriend and I take a wander lap, checking out the bikes. I'm thinking I might as well just buy a new bike for a couple hundred dollars more than a single tire. What the heck, right? No need. Employee "Dave" comes out and asks if he can help. I explain the situation and his gears start turning. He says "let me take a look in the back, cross your fingers." Little does he know, I literally crossed my fingers. I'm desperate at this point. The child in me just wants his bicycle back. Next thing I know I see Dave coming out with a bicycle wheel tire and a GREAT PRICE. It was everything I needed. My girlfriend starts tearing up. The entire staff are really helpful, I'm a pretty novice bike owner and they helped me to get everything in line with new tires and instillation, a spacer, and lubricated chains. Eric was very informative and made sure everything was safe and ready to ride, service was prompt, and communication was excellent. They have hecka people working there but they aren't even that helpful most of the time I ask do they have something in stock they say "let me check" then they go help some other people. There prices are outrageous as well. read more

They have terrible customer service ive came in about a total of 5 times and 3/5 times left completely unsatisfied the first time i came in i had rear wheel that needed the hub to be repaired they told me "it needed to be tightened" but i knew that wasnt the case. So i went home and took it apart my self and there a bearing in there blown to shreds even though they told me it "needed to be tightened" second time i came in, i bought some pegs for my Bmx and asked if they could tighten my chain since it was loose and was falling off on the way there since i rode my Bmx there, they tightened it but it was extremely tight like unridable so i told them and they gave me attitude saying "then why ask to tighten it" so i told them just put it back to how it was because i couldn't ride it like that and yet again gave me attitude so they did it and i left. The third time (today) i came in for a tune up on my mountain bike as soon as i walked in i could tell the guy that was attending me had a little attitude and seemed as if he didn't want to help me already, so he checks my bike out and tells me i needed pads so i was okay cool then he goes on and says i need a chain, when i know i dont the chain is practically new with only a handfull of rides on it and i tell him no thanks i dont need a chain and ill do just a tune up in a nice manner, he says "then i cant do a tune up and says "that its the same as if i were to go to a car shop and get a rebuild on my engine when it needs a head gasket and not get a head gasket" and the other two times i went i was just buying some stuff for my dirtjumper, and a helmet the other time which there was no complaints there even gave me a good deal on the helmet. So in conclusion if youre going in there to spend money they will be nice and if youre asking for a tune up and not letting them upsell you than youre better off on your own. I dont know why they are like this to me because i have buddies who go and have no problems whatsoever its just when i go my buddie who went just yesterday got a tune up for 20$ and they tried to get me to pay 150 for tune up, chain and brake pads. I will never shop here again and im not one to complain about customer service or shops or whatever .i will not shop here again and hope you dont either read more

If you are in Sac area. This is the ONLY shop you should let touch your beloved machine. I've lived in Sacramento for over 20 years and have been to several shops and this is hands down the best overall. Every time I am in there I feel welcome and they are always super awesome dealing with kids or big families!! DO NOT BUY A BIKE ANYWHERE UNTIL YOU CHECK THESE GUYS OUT Any review on here less than 5 stars either got offended too easily, or expected their bike to be on top priority over anything and everything(which let me tell you is basically every customer ever) and got a reality check that there are other customers aside from them. These guys know the biz, very reasonable labor charges, and what I particularly like is they aren't pushy on repairs. They will let you know repairs that need immediate attention or can be pushed of for a few more rides, you can pass or accept but they are totally straight about all of that. Build a relationship with these guys and treat them as well as they treat you and you will never be let down!!! Thank you to every dude on the crew there you guys are the fuckin bomb. read more

Had a disappointing attempt at service here. I called them first and let them know I had a bike with Campagnolo cranks and wanted to switch to Shimano cranks, which I had already purchased. He said no problem, I'll just need a bottom bracket which they had several of. He said it would take probably a couple of days to get done. Sounded fine to me. So I took the bike to Bob's, and the guy who looked at it said it might require a special tool which they might not have.. which if it did need that tool, would mean an additional week to get the upgrade done. I asked him if he could look at it (the bike was right there) to see if they needed the tool or not. If they did have the tool and parts, I would have been fine leaving it for the 2 days I had in mind. He said he didn't have a free repair rack to use to look at it. And they might not have the other parts needed for it. I could leave it there, or not. So my choice was not to as I didn't like the possibility of not having my bike for 7 days. The guy "helping" me also had a slight attitude. Didn't get the feeling that he was interested in actually helping me with anything. After taking my bike back home I called another bike shop (Biker Bar in old Fair Oaks), to whom I explained the situation, and he asked me over the phone for a detail about my current cranks, which confirmed for him that there was no special tool needed (a simple glance at the bike was all it took). He said they could do it no problem. I took my bike to Biker Bar, and he did a quick look, a quick measurement, and brought out the bottom bracket that I needed. And he got it all done within 3 hours of me taking it in there. So rather than the guy at Bob's taking a minute to look at the bike that was right there in front of him (which I've since learned about the Campagnolo parts, is a fairly well known difference between what I had and the other version which required a special tool), he was not accommodating or helpful at all. He didn't need a free repair rack to look at the Campy crank to see that all it took was a 10mm hex wrench. Either he didn't know enough about bike parts to just glance at it and see what it needed (a bad sign), or was too lazy to take the extra minute to help me. Neither are a good sign for a bike repair shop. And since they couldn't even look at it for 2 days, maybe they are so flush with work that helping any individual customer isn't a priority for them. It was a bummer as they are the closest shop to me, and somewhere I've been buying small parts (tubes, tires) as needed over the years. But I doubt I'll be going back after that, as there are more helpful and accommodating options around. read more

Life is crazy and how I found this shop is nothing short of a Christmas miracle. I struggle with lower back pain and walking or jogging usually result in huge blown out blisters and pain. I found the best solution was an Electric Mountain Bike since it's comfortable and with American River Bike Trail, it's very enjoyable also. With my bike I have lost over 30lbs riding my bike, until it failed on me. It was a BH Easy Motion Neo Jumper which the company, since 2017, left the US market. I spent about a month of frustration calling, e-mail, bugging shops to see if anyone was willing to look at it. I quickly started to realize this is going to become a never-ending battle and decided to look into new bikes. A lot of shops didn't carry the style or features I liked and most would have to order with deposit, financing, etc. It was the same, "good luck" or "it will take months." I went onto Giant's website and decided to order directly from them and chose a shop, this shop, I have never heard of. I ordered it at 9:30am and by 12pm I got an e-mail the bike was ready for pick up. I went through a month of hell trying to get anyone to listen or help, have inventory, decent finance options, etc. This shop saved the day and then some. They had this thing dialed in, already charged, etc. They have an insane selection, amazing staff, and just an overall good vibe walking into the store. I went from a depressed wreck of a situation to within 24 hours back on my feet. Can't thank this staff and the employees enough. A++++++ read more

I came in to buy a couple parts but was pressured by a young employee to " just buy a new bike", I don't need a new bike, just a couple upgraded parts. I was ready to buy a 3 wheel bicycle. I am a beginner level so i thought this will be good since I wont need to worry about balance. I also have a bad back from my previous military service, so I know that a trike will be best. I never knew that I will be humiliated coming in to this store. It is not like I am just browsing to test a bicycle, I am ready to spend a thousand dollars for a trike. All I asked was if its possible to get it delivered to my place since I have a small car and i have no way to travel it. The initial guy who was assisting me was courteous but the guys behind the service crew just lacks compassion after I explained that I have no way to take it. The guy said and I quote " where do you live? Why not ride not home?"... Hmm, if I could have ridden it I would have ridden it but like I said beginner here also am I to leave my vehicle just so I can take the bicycle from bobs cycle to my home address in Anatolia's just to walk back there to grab my car again? I was very dismayed. He could have just said I am sorry we have no delivery option, and I would have been happy to leave without a fuzz. I hate to vent, but I encounter this type of service a lot. Bought one of the last road bikes in town (seriously, I called around) for the time being. Since COVID hit they have been sold out everywhere. Service was great and shout out to Dave for helping us out and answering all our questions and making sure we got what was needed for a first time cycler. She is very happy with her new bike and I am happy with the purchase. We went with a Felt road bike. They have a great entry level bike. If your in this area more then likely this is your bike shop already because it's always packed but if your coming from another area then you may want to check this location out. I normally go to Bob's for my road bike. I recently purchased an use electric mountain bike. I brought it by Bob's to give it a once over. Mike helped me. He initially told me that they do not work on electric bike and gave me a card of a place that does. That being said he did help me with a ton of good information. I took my bike into Bob's today for a tune up. I was ready to pay for whatever it needed. It had been sitting in the garage for a while......okay, years. I just retired and now that I have time I want to get back on the trails! There were a few gentleman working on bikes and Greg was attentive as we walked in. He came out and helped me get the bike off the rack and we went in and he looked it over and all it needed was a couple of tubes and rim strips. (They we're hanging out from the wheels lol). We waited while he worked on it and had it ready in a jiffy! I was so pleased and a reasonable price to boot! Greg then walked us out and he put it back on my rack and even adjusted the rack when I asked about it seeming loose. I felt very comfortable too as I was a little embarrassed not being the avid cyclist I used to be but an old retired lady who will do well to get out and exercise! Thank you Greg! I brought my bicycle today and it is an old bicycle not in the best shape. While I was unloading it, the guy told me that this bicycle is not worth fixing and I shouldn't be spending any money on it and that I should just buy a new bike. He then told me a bunch of technical stuff about the bicycle. In my opinion, it crosses the line of rudeness to tell someone that their bike is trash but this was not why I am only giving them zero stars. I don't know what the guy did to my bicycle and the brakes as my bicycle was unrideable after I left the store. I believe he did something to the front brakes and never reversed it. This is outrageous as I brought a perfectly rideable bike to them and was wondering why I am not able to switch all the gears; instead of fixing my bicycle, they told me it is trash and ruined my bike. I highly not recommend this store. read more

I have been going to Bob's for years for service and they are really amazing. Things like bringing in a flat tire and they just do it on the spot so you can get rolling. Well, I decided to buy an eBike and the issues are far different than a regular bike and one of the key things is after sale service. I researched them, rode a few including a Trek and when I went in there and rode the Giant, it really stands head and shoulders above the rest. I was also in there as my brother who has not ridden a bike in 35 years needed one for his health, so in the end we bought a bike for him and my eBike to go with my road bike. They are as helpful and knowledgeable as can be; my eBike bike had a small after sale problem that the sales manager, David, went above and beyond to fix. I can't compliment them, especially Davis, enough on their sales and service and there is a reason that they have stayed in business for over 50 years....if you live in the area you will not do better than to visit or buy from Bob's. Also, they only allow so many people into the store due to Covid and they get 5 stars for protecting their employees and the public. read more

Hands down, this shop is amazing! I wish they still had their store in EDH but thankful the Fair Oaks store remains open. My family bought a bike from Bobs in 2001/2002 (Specialized S-Works M5). Recently, I pulled it out of the "closet" again. I brought the bike into Bobs for a full service / check up to confirm it was in good riding condition. I was greeted by Josh - who was extremely helpful & knowledgeable. Josh even spent time with me showing me some newer modern bikes! Can't wait to buy another rad bike from these guys! The customer service given here is unbeatable. We started a line outside 15 minutes before open and we were the first customers of the day (currently an in-store customer limit due to COVID). We were met by an employee named Dave! We explained that I was beginner with little to no knowledge about bicycles looking for a bike that would be good on the road and possibly trails when I get to that point. Dave was patient and thorough on explaining the difference of the bikes and even explained how to use the gears and other features. Based on his recommendation of a bike best suiting for me- I went on a test drive around the store and the parking lot. Again, SUPER patient. Did not feel pressured, rushed, or stupid for not knowing things about the bikes he was showing us. We ended up walking out with a bike in my size that was built and ready to be owned. (Before you leave your bike goes through a safety check by one of their technicians.) So excited for the new bike, we went on a ride shortly after the purchase. I got a flat tire within 30 minutes of the ride. We called the store and they told us to bring it back when we could. We came back same day and the line outside for entry was pretty lengthy. We stood outside in the heat but to our surprise, an employee frequently came outside and was handing out free bottled waters to waiting customers. We got inside and they took care of the tire without question. I'm so satisfied with the purchase, the shop that stands behind their products, and the service they deliver. Props to Bob's Cycle Center. Bought a great Marin bike here 5 years ago. The gears have been acting up recently (probably because it hasn't been tuned in 5 years) so I took it in today. Instead of soaking me for a full tune-up - which could have been $$$ and left me bikeless for 3 weeks because they're so backed up (thanks Corona) - the tech took my bike, spent 5 minutes cleaning and adjusting it, and sent me on my way... no charge!
