Every visit here has been kind of a disaster. They have a friendly but rather inefficient staff. Our recent visit had both orders totally messed up. My husband got the wrong type of steak (again), they forgot one of my side dishes, both our other sides had missing or wrong items on them. When my forgotten side was brought mid meal it had the wrong gravy on it. My husband's correct type of steak was then brought out, grossly undercooked (he asked for medium and it was under rare), I then waited until the very end of the meal to get the correct mashed potato side with chicken gravy, a not so fun *dessert*. I am kind of funny. I like to eat my meals all at once. The food here is reasonably tasty but I swear every.single.Bob.Evans we attempt to dine at in the greater metro Detroit area Fs up our orders consistently. Breakfast or dinner orders, always at least two things wrong.Trust me, we are fairly basic people, serving us at a casual dining restaurant is hardly brain surgery. If not for extremely frequent buy one get one free coupons we would probably never dine at any Bob Evans. Although i ordered take out, the experience I had said alot about what would an in house dinning be like..... I ordered a take out to be picked up by 4pm. When I got there, I still need to wait 5-10mins till I get my order. When I first got it, I thought it was a mini early dinner set since it's inside a regular carry on bag. And the really reason, was that they forgot my main course, Black Angus Pork Steak. I called and they said it didn't show the pork steak on their part of receipt. So I went back with my receipt and they gave me my pork steak back, 5mins later, in a nice way. So back to the food review, the biscuits went great with the tomato basil soup. The soup was very rich in texture but a bit salty for me. I love the cole slaw, it's definitely something different than what I usually have, seems like it's the extra green spring onions they added. The pork steak looks a bit too brown and I thought it would be dry n over cooked but I was wrong. The pork steak was done right, fully cooked but not over cooked and juicy on the inside. Although the mushrooms are overcooked for me, they absorbed all the onion and pork steak sauce. So overall experience was not bad. read more

I like coming to breakfast here, but for whatever reason, they seemed a bit slow today. Not sure if they didn't have enough cooks or even wait staff. Wow was so excited to eat here. We get the mashed potatoes at the grocery store so we had to try the restaurant and it did not disappoint us. Great, fresh and hot food. Today it took 10min to get a seat (no big deal) got a menu and sat for 20mins completely ignored! Decided to leave and go somewhere else. I have always wanted to try a Bob Evans, since there was one close to my hotel and the other choices were limited I thought I would give it a try. After looking at the menu I decided on breakfast for dinner. What I didn't know and found out later was that there was a new cook. That explains the long wait for bacon and eggs. The service that Holly my server provided made up for the wait. However the cook needs to work on the eggs. They are not hard to cook but they are easy to mess up. Elite California Yelper Ming-Jou C. gave Bob Evans (a different one) 5 stars and mentioned that a colleague loves to visit Bob Evans when he returns home to Ohio. I feel the same way, and I made a special stop at this Bob Evans, which was located near the Detroit airport. Bob Evans is a Midwestern chain (also big in the Southeast) that is best described as a country version of Denny's. Now, I'm not a big fan of Denny's, but I like Bob Evans. The service is usually pretty good and the food (especially their breakfast) is quite good with very reasonable prices. This Bob Evans (like many in the Midwest) is located right off an exit ramp in a rural part of Michigan next to a Ramada Inn. There was a huge parking lot for when they get really busy. I went around a slow time in between lunch and dinner. There were a few locals there. The exterior has that sharp red barn look to it. The decor is pretty simple--very warm and country (perhaps a little faux country because it is a chain--but the origin of this chain is quite genuine country). The seating is simple too--a bunch of booths, a bunch of tables and a bar. More Bob Evans are adopting the general store feel by selling a few knickknacks, candies and jars of their popular sauces/dressings (like barbecue sauce, honey, gravy, etc.). That is probably an effort to compete with Cracker Barrel. I saw a little note that all Bob Evans are now offering free Wi-Fi. I went their signature dish, which is sausage gravy and biscuits. You are served two buttermilk biscuits--buttery outside crust and then soft in the middle. You cut the two biscuits in half and then spoon over the sausage gravy. Biscuits and gravy does not work elsewhere. They either use that milky white gravy (with no sausage) that is quite bland (this is what Cracker Barrel uses--though I do like Cracker Barrel as a restaurant). Or the gravy is very greasy. Bob Evans gravy is very creamy and not greasy. They add ground sausage (more similar to a sausage patty than a sausage link), and the sausage adds a nice and savory pepperiness to the gravy. The dish is quite flavorful, and the one I had in Michigan was very good. I've always found their breakfast better than their dinner, but I used to like their boneless fried chicken so I went with that. The dish came with two sides. I opted for the mashed potatoes, which were good. I also opted for the sweet corn, which was fine though maybe too buttery. The chicken was different from what I remember. The chicken used to have a nice crispiness to the breading. Also, it was covered in a thick, white gravy (similar to country fried steak) that acts as a satisfying sauce. This fried chicken's breading was not that crispy and was a little too salty. The breading also fell off the chicken when I cut into it. The chicken was not dry, but it could have been more moist. No gravy on top. This may have been an anomaly, but I probably won't be ordering it again. The dish also came with rolls (which are good here), but I did not have any because I was way too full. Service was very good and quite friendly (at it always is with this place). This is the type of place where you are going to get completely genuine sayings such as "What will you have hun?" or "Will that be all sweetie?" Prices are very reasonable. Bob Evans is a chain (but a regional chain). Another negative is that many of their dishes do not feature great ingredients. Still, I usually have a good experience, and good or bad, this is a strong representation of the type of food favored and the expectations of service in this part of the country. read more

Let me start by saying I am a Mgr for a mid size family restaurant. We arrived at 8:20 pm. It was packed. About 5 minutes in, the Busperson, Brandon, greeted us. We expected a wait- no problem 25 minutes. Brandon brought us to a booth in the back... several tables/booths were dirty. (Should have a Hostess or Mgr at door so Busperson can do his job). After 5-6 minutes we asked Brandon if someone could please acknowledge us so we could have our drinks. He kindly took our drink order. A Server came over and said "Hi, I'm not your Server but I'll get your drinks." Why wouldn't you have simply brought drinks with you and let us know our Server was coming. Another couple minutes and our actual Server brought all but one drink. After a total of 15 minutes I went up to counter and said, "It has been 15 minutes may I please have hot tea?". We then placed our order right away. Two breakfasts and turkey dinner. Our Server had two tables of which customers were eating. Our Server never returned to check on us or see if refills were needed. Two tables in our area, each having different Servers received their food after being sat after us. I took my family to Bob Evans and the experience was unacceptable experience. The food was bland. All the service was terrible. My waitress didn't bring me silverware until I asked for it. The food took 30 minutes. She never checked on me after the food was delivered and I needed hot sauce to eat it but never got it. The food took a half an hour to come out and it wasn't busy. Then when I was waiting in line to pay the bill there was nobody there. When somebody did can't come, they let a person that was behind me skip in front of me to pay. I will not go back. read more

This was the worst service I have ever received. The waitress was incompetent and messed up my entire order. I watched my family eat their meals while I waited for my correct order. She also tried to tell me that it wasn't wrong when I had to reference her the menu to show her that she didn't even know the menu herself. She also forgot things like sides, bacon and biscuits etc, we had to ask her for everything which she brought to us separately, which we waited so long for. I wanted hot sauce and a refill on my beverage but the server didn't come back until I was finished eating. I asked for a refill but she never brought it. I went to this location Monday for a late breakfast and Rachel M was our server.They didn't have any grits left even though they were still serving breakfast. I ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup. A side of bacon and house potatoes. My husband ordered a plate that had eggs scrambled with cheese, sausage patties and biscuits so that he can make a sausage egg and cheese biscuit! So when the food arrived we got everything but his biscuits. The waitress informed us the biscuits are going to be ready in 8 minutes and that she brought out banana nut bread until then. Ok this was a problem because he wanted a sausage,egg, and cheese biscuit not sausage, eggs, and banana nut bread . This issue could have been avoided had the waitress come out and informed us of the status of the biscuits immediately and then my husband could have either waited until the biscuits were ready or ordered something else. But we weren't given that option. Needless to say the meal was finished and check was given and there was still no biscuits. I asked for a discount on the bill due to my order not being complete and the waitress snatched the check from the table and walked away. 5 minutes later an older man approached our table. I'm assuming he was the manager even though he didn't introduce himself to be. We told him our problem with the meal and by the time he left our table the agreement was to have the full meal remade Togo. Of course this didn't happen. They only thing that we got were the plan biscuits to eat with nothing. At that point we had just had enough and left. read more

Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Went inside and were put on a wait list behind one other couple, and were told that the wait would be 15 minutes. True to their word, after 15 minutes, we were shown to a table. Now seated, we looked around and discovered that there were many clean, unoccupied tables at which we could (and should!) have been seated. There was absolutely no reason to make us wait 15 minutes when there were so many empty tables! The waiter (Brian) promptly came and took our drink orders, then returned with our coffees and took our order. He was friendly and professional. We subsequently watched table after table get their food before us, even though they were seated by the host AFTER us. We asked Brian when our food was coming, as we had to bring one of our members back to the airport so that she could board her flight, and he told us that it would be soon. From order to delivery of our food, it took 29 minutes. When Brian brought the food to the table, there was no apology at all for the extended delay. Either the kitchen is really bad at prioritizing orders as they come in, or our server fumbled when it came to submitting the order to the kitchen. Either way, when the food finally arrived, we had about 10 minutes to scarf it down before we had to run. NOT the best way to enjoy breakfast at Bob Evans. The food was delicious, on par for a Bob Evans restaurant, and is worth a return visit, next time hopefully with a little better, more finely-tuned service. read more

Not sure what the wait was all about. Seating took 10 minutes only to be seated with a lot of tables open/dirty. With half the restaurant open it took almost 20 after ordering for our food.....this was ordering breakfast food at 10:20ish on a Sunday. Again not sure what the hold up was since half the tables were open. Got up to pay and the "lobby" was full!!!! With again half the tables still open or dirty. Clearly it was a service issue as everyone was seated/ordered/food served/paid in order, meaning no one came after and got their food/service before others before them. I've eaten here several times. It's been a while since I have been here. I came just before dinner. I wanted the fried chicken but they only serve it after 4pm. So I got the boneless fried chicken breast with green beans and mashed potatoes. Everything was good but the vegetable portions were small. Restaurant was out of turkey ?? So he had to come back to tell one of the kiddos they had to select something else but did so in a very friendly and professional manner. Hash browns were very oily and inedible- he noticed and took them off the bill. Saw that I didn't eat much of my salad and inquired about my satisfaction - when I indicated lettuce was not very fresh, he offered to correct it. We walked in last night at 9:58pm knowing that they closed at 10pm. We walked in the door apologizing and asking if there was anyway we could get food, even just take out. Terrible. I've never been to a Bob Evans before but it wasn't very busy and I sat at the table bar. 10 minutes later I was finally asked if I wanted something to drink. I ordered an egg and hash scramble, and 30 minutes later, I walked out hungry and unwilling to wait any longer. One of the cooks seemed more interested in his awful freestyle rapping, and all the waitresses had a nasty attitude. There was one tall thin guy working who seemed to be the only one who gave a damn. He checked in on me a couple times and seemed understandably frustrated at the obvious incompetence around him. Zero stars if I could give it. Great fried chicken meal! Service was excellent. Minor issue with my coleslaw but that was quickly remedied. I did not ask for the manager but Jade (my server) brought her manager over anyway. Jade was concerned my dining experience might be less than it could be. The Manager Celeste was very nice and accommodating. The way they handled a small issue shows how well the staff is trained.
