lucky charms matcha

went here last month with the fam and everyone loved it!!! it was so hard to choose what to get. there are many great options on the menu. everything is very fresh. I ordered lox toast, it was thebest lox toast i've ever had, i'm drooling thinking about it right now! my bf loved his mushroom french omelette, and we all enjoyed the homemade jam as well. service was quick and friendly! the aesthetic on the inside is beautiful. restaurant is clean. my lucky charms matcha latte was so delicious. I can't wait to go back and try more!

ful mudammas with some strawberry shortcake French toast. very very good

Lovely atmosphere, a menu with high quality and flavorful ingredients, all served up with a slight side of attitude in the best, most efficient way possible. A great option for a relatively quick and healthy lunch, with huge portions and some crowd pleasing options. I will definitely be back.

Steak and eggs (I don't eat eggs so I got double potatoes)

My friends and I were here for a concert and decided to get brunch in the morning and this is where we came. The place is a very, very cute! The staff was nice, but I will admit our server was a little slow to get to us and get items to us. I got the steak and eggs. I don't eat eggs so I got double potatoes. It was tasty but my steak was a little over what I wanted being a little bland. I also was kind of upset because I wanted more chimichurri and I didn't realize until after I got my bill at for a little Ramekin. It was three dollars. I wish my server would have made that known. The strawberry shortcake was delicious my friends and I all shared it . I'm very picky about my coffee, but their coffee is very much to my strength level. Overall, my friends and I are ever back in Detroit. We will definitely visit this place again.

Beet & Arugula Salad with chicken

Came here again recently for lunch after a work meeting. The space is as beautiful as ever, and I appreciate the variety the menu has here. I had a grilled chicken salad and iced coffee - both were very good and filling! Service was a bit slow and parking can be tough in the area, but a great spot for dining when you have some time!

We came here today for brunch at 12:50. We originally planned to eat elsewhere, but the wait was over an hour. Popped in here for a coffee, but decided to stay for food because there was plenty of space and instant seating. Awesome! I ordered the Salted Caramel Corn Latte. We waited at least a half hour for that to come (The photo of the latte was taken at 1:36). It was a nice flavor, I did not finish it as the flavor seemed highly concentrated the lower the cup got, may have benefited from a stir up on my part. The waitress didn't care to check in on us, so we could not even place the food order. The couple next to us sat down just after we did, and they were already half done EATING before our waitress (different women than the people next to us) even took our order. I ordered pancakes and the boyfriend ordered the 3 eggs any style. My pancakes arrived with no syrup. I waited twenty(!) minutes before the waitress came to check on us so I could ask for syrup. We never saw her anywhere and had even asked the attentive waitress from the neighboring table for some. The pancakes were ok, but also a tad flavorless, I'd probably go with something else next time. The 3 eggs any style came correctly, though the pile of eggs didn't really seem like 3 eggs worth? We finished up and the bus boy took our dishes and still the waitress didnt come back. The other server ended up saying she'd let ours know we wanted to hit to road. We left at 2:25. The vibe of the restaurant was nice, loved the atmosphere! If we had a more attentive server, I'm sure the review would have been more than a 3!

This brunch spot has quickly become one of my favorites. They offer a wide variety of food, drinks, coffee, matcha, and tea there's truly something for everyone. The ambiance is beautiful and reminds me of a charming New York café. The service was wonderful, and Adam was great--he checked in several times to make sure everything was perfect. Highly recommend!

Matcha Latte

Went here for brunch and really enjoyed the ambiance -- the interior is beautiful and definitely Instagram-worthy. The service was also great, very friendly and attentive. I ordered the matcha latte, which was just okay. The egg and cheese croissant was also pretty average -- nothing particularly memorable. The potatoes were a bit disappointing, as they were overly oily and felt like they were almost drowning in it. Overall, it's a lovely spot for pictures and catching up with friends. I might come back to try something else on the menu, but I probably wouldn't order the same items again.

UPDATE: I went back here for brunch and tried the breakfast burrito, it was delicious. However, service was much slower this time and nobody had come to our table to introduce themselves as our server for a good 10-15 minutes. Hopefully this was just a one time mishap! I still enjoyed the lattes, breakfast, and atmosphere but with the price it does stay reserved for a special brunch occasion.

S'mores French Toast. Very sweet
Tiffany Z.

Great restoration on a historical building in Dearborn. It was always in need of TLC. Good service, very tastet food and reservation are a must. We had brunch and there still so much on the menu we need to come back and try. For me, I'd skip the S'mores French Toast. This was a huge suggestion from the server and my cousin but it was way too sweet for me. The lamb flatbread- I wish there was more lamb but still good. I would have it as something to share with the table and not as a stand alone meal like I did. Great coffees and teas. It's pretty loud so maybe it would be better outside on the patio next time. And a heads up - it's an alcohol free zone

I had the most wonderful experience at The Great Commoner! our server was incredibly helpful when trying to decide what to get, and recommended the ful mudammas to me, which I licked clean. The rest of the food and drinks were incredible as well, everything was so vibrant and filling. I would definitely go back next time I'm in Detroit!

Matthew L.

This place is top tier! Despite our custom orders, the food came out fast and everything was flavorful and satisfying. The portions justify the price. Don't leave without grabbing a croissant to go! My family will definitely be back to try more dishes.

I only know how to find it because I used to live around there, but I wouldn't have known about it if I didn't search Yelp. The food really was amazing. There has been a huge influx of Yemeni coffee houses in the area, but the first that also serves a full menu of brunch food that includes traditional options and your more American options - omelets, pancakes, etc. I was in the mood to try something traditional. I went with the Lahm Sighar. It's a minced meat dishes with onions and peppers, with Yemeni flavors. It comes with a giant piece of khubz (think naan). Obviously you don't have to, but you're supposed to pick the food up with pieces of khubuz if you want the authentic experience. I would compare Lahm Sighar to Corned Beef Hash if you're at an American diner if you're tying to picture it. It was really crowded, so that's a good sign, but the service was still great. They made sure I understood what I was getting into when I asked for Medium Spicy. Since I only go back to the Dearborn area every few months now, I anticipate this is now my newest go-to brunch spot. So glad I found this place. :-)

This place is definitely worth a visit if you are ever in the Detroit area. First things first,…read morethey do not take reservations and they are always on a wait, that should tell you that they are good. We arrived in the middle of a snowstorm on a weekday. It was a Friday though around 11am and, predictably, they had a wait. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. It was totally worth the wait. Their ambiance is cute- the hallway is clean, they have bench seating and they put you on the list to get a text, so you could sit in the car if you really wanted to; we did not. They could use a foyer though. It was 22 degrees and snowing so every time the door opened we were instantly freezing. The menu is massive so if you're trying this for the first time and you're from out of town, honey bring as many friends as you can so that you guys can order everything!! Theeeee must have that I tried were the smoked wings. I have never had wings that were smoked and then fried baby they were crispy. They were seasoned to the bone and were delicious. I almost ate them all and had no room for anything else. We also did the berry pancakes which could feed 3-5 people alone; second of all, they're not overly sweet, which is why I did berries and not the peaches or anything like that; and, third of all, the pancakes are the size of your face, but they are fluffy and melt in your mouth! These were easily top two pancakes I've had in my life. We also tried the shrimp and grits, also a 10/10. A generous portion of shrimp, not overcooked and the sauce was bomb. They do put bacon on it if you're not a bacon eater pay attention. I tasted around it anyways but yes, we also tried a vegetarian omelette with home fries. This was just a 7/10 but probably because we only ever tasted it reheated because we were too full to touch it. It was 3 entrees and an appetizer and was definitely enough food to feed a family of seven. This is a must visit place, so if you are in the area and have never been: make time!!!! And take some friends. Each plate is a day's worth of calories!

I usually don't like to bring a group somewhere that doesn't take reservations but I took a chance on this place and happy I did. I ordered the berry pancakes and they were amazing. I don't like things to be too sweet first thing in am so I ordered without the cream cheese frosting and just added syrup which was perfect amount of sweetness. The portion was so huge I could only eat 1/4 of it. Everything else that was ordered around the table looked amazing and also had very generous portions.

The place was bustling and I managed to snag one of the last open tables. Fatteh with meat- For the uninitiated, this is akin to a parfait of pure deliciousness. It's a dish constructed in layers, with fried khubz (fried pita chips), meat, toasted nuts, pomagranate ariels, yoghurt, whole tender chickpeas, and hummus. This time, the pita chips were sogy and not crunchy even though we dug in immediately. Otherwise, this dish was flawless. The large size is huge and enough for four people to share. 6 Falafel- They come drizzled with tahini and a touch of spice. They are tender and moist inside, and the outside is fried so that somehow it's maximally crispy without lacerating the inside of your mouth. It's flavorful enough to eat by itself, or dipped in the sauce it comes with or any of the other dips you order. Hummus- This is smooth and topped with whole, tender chickpeas nested in the middle, and a sprinkle of dried herbs. There's not a lot of olive oil that comes with the dish, but there's olive oil provided at the table to help with adjusting the consistency if you desire. This was the perfect consistency and delicious overall. If this was the only hummus available to me for the rest of my life, I would be happy. The bread is commercial pita bread wrapped in a basket at the table, and they give you the usual assortment of vegetables (sliced tomato, onion, pickles, etc) on a plate as well to enjoy with your meal.

It's been a couple of months since then, but we finally decided to visit recently for breakfast. Unlike the Lebanese breakfasts places around Dearborn, this restaurant was pretty empty with only two other tables with patrons. Falafel, 1/2 Doz ($5.99) - The quality is evident in these falafels and you can tell they are made to order. They have a very delicate crisp on the exterior throughout and the interior is more mashed and fine as compared to a typical falafel. It seems like it's purely chickpea, without the addition of herbs. It comes drizzled with tahini and comes with a nice lemony yogurt sauce on the side. The mix of chickpeas and spices is phenomenal - these are some of the best falafels I've had. Spicy Potatoes ($6.99) - A good size portion of pan fried potatoes mixed with cilantro and a small amount of pepper flakes. I wouldn't really call these spicy - there's barely any pepper in it at all. The potatoes are fluffy and come with a yogurt dipping sauce on the side. Fatteh w/ Meat, Large ($16.99) - I'm no expert on the difference between Lebanese and Syrian food, but from what I can tell, this Syrian-style fatteh has pomegranate arils mixed in and is quite a bit less liquidy. This allows the pita chips on the bottom to still retain a nice crunch, unlike how soggy the chips are in the Lebanese fatteh I've had. The dish had a very nice mix of yogurt, giving and tangy taste, and hummus and chickpeas. Then it's topped with a mixture of lamb and beef (it has a bit of a gaminess to it) and toasted cashews. I think this is the best fatteh I've had so far. We actually also ordered a medium hummus as well but they forgot to bring it out. To be honest, though, when we saw the size of the fatteh, we were glad they forgot the hummus! It's huge - between the two of us, we only finished maybe 1/4 of it. On the side, they give you a plate of fresh mint, pickles, onion, and tomato to use as garnish. We also got 4 whole pitas to eat everything with. I would definitely come eat at Shamiat again - in fact, I'd probably rather go here than to AlTayeb, because of the fact that Shamiat is just a whole lot less crowded and is equally delicious. I highly recommend trying out Shamiat if you're in the area.
