The fried chicken was phenomenal, it came with hot honey, and that took it over the top. It was juicy and crispy and the hot honey was the best I have tasted. Chef's kiss! The grits were good and had a little spice to them that I appreciated and the biscuit was crumbly and buttery in a non-greasy way, yummy! However, the collards were the worst greens I have ever tasted in my life. I'm sorry y'all, I don't know what happened to the person who cooked those greens were bad. There was not a bit seasoning! I couldn't even re-do them at home, they were so bad, I COULDN'T EAT THEM. I was so shocked because everything else was so good! I will absolutely order food from them again, but I'm never ordering those greens again!

I'd go back for another one right now but will definitely be returning to this restaurant for that sandwich next time I'm in Detroit.

The vibe is amazing with, yes, super cool esthetics and decor. Like an old Berlin pub but more upscale and hip. I had the deviled eggs to start, and anyone who's read my reviews knows I love me a deviled egg! They were really good. One of the best I've had. For my entree, the server recommended, what he said was the 2nd best thing on the menu, the Orange Bourbon Ribs. They were really solid. Could have used a couple more, but they were great with some slaw, that should have been on the side and not on top. But that's just splitting hairs. Get the side of fires, they're huge and sooo good! For desert, the server also recommended the Burnt Sugar Tres Leches, made with coconut milk. It was one of the best deserts I've ever had. I love a server who recommends great things off the menu and is honest. Highly recommend Supergeil if you're in Detroit.

I wore a button up shirt and Oxford shoes with my jeans, and I felt overdressed. But really, what matters most is the food. Our server recommended the calamari as an appetizer, and it was incredible. Not a single bite of it was the least bit chewy. The fried exterior did not make it feel heavy at all. And, when I say that not a single bite was chewy, I know that because we finished every bit of it. My burger was a half pound of ground prime rib. This might be the best hamburger I've ever had in my life, and I have eaten a lot of excellent burgers. It was so good that my wife kept taking bites of it. This seemed fair, because I kept taking bites of her salmon. I was skeptical about the breading on the salmon, but this is a bit of a masterpiece. The Panko breadcrumbs are light, and the rice vinegar seasoning works beautifully with it. The edamame and other shredded vegetables were mostly for decoration. But, the rice was equally amazing. The service was friendly and efficient at the same time. I'm reminded again of how it's been too long since we were last here. It definitely won't be that long until our next visit.

Service was friendly, but slow. We decided to just get a few appetizers, as all of the entree options sounded too heavy for a hot summer night. They were all really tasty and the meatballs make a meal themselves. Loved the "gold coast" cocktail. I think this would be a repeat drinks and apps only stop in the future.

Even on a Monday night at 8:00pm, they were busy, which I think says a lot. The menu is small but intentional. We each ordered a drink, the Brussels (always, we don't care what we get for a main), and shared the burger and campanelle. You're probably never going to be blown away by a burger, but you know a good burger from a bad one. This was a GOOD burger. The campanelle though... we could not stop talking about it. Genuinely addicting and easily the standout of the night. So happy this place exists in Detroit. We'll keep coming back.

We arrived on this misty evening around 8pm, into the dim, candlelit space with upbeat music playing. We were asked promptly if we had a reservation-- did not, so we were promptly seated at the counter, across from the bar-- which was actually less crowded than the section on the floor with tables. Onto the food, I had fries that were nicely salted, and covered in a curry spice. They were decent but nothing spectacular. I would also describe my burger this way. The best part of it was the perfectly toasted and buttery bun-- but I find it overconfident to serve a burger without any toppings-- just a sauce that was apparently blended with pickles that I couldn't really taste. The burger was seasoned well enough...plenty of pepper, but it was all one texture, I didn't pick up any searing or anything to make the texture less one note. I asked my server for extra sauce, mustard, and ketchup to make it better. My friend recommended this spot specifically for the burger so I'm willing to say, I just ordered the wrong thing maybe. Onto the desert, the corn tiramisu caught my eye as something unique to try and it was truly an experience. It made me laugh out loud cause it was strange unexpected food experience in both flavor and presentation, I enjoyed it, but wouldn't order it again persay. It came out in a little whipped pile covered in cornflakes with green jalapeño jelly. I appreciated the richness and that it wasn't too sweet-- but overall I'd enjoy it more if it was presented more neatly, and there was a bit more spice on the plate to cut through said richness, although to their the deep sweet and earthy flavored of jalapeños was captured perfectly in the gel.

The restaurant is an homage to this amazing African American family and to Johnson's broader network of friends and associates, featuring their best recipes and family favorites. Fixins is known for chicken and waffles (served with iconic grape jelly butter), deep-fried deviled eggs, oxtail, and shrimp and grits. Here is what we ordered: * Off the lil bits menu (apps): * Deep-fried deviled eggs, topped with bacon and hot sauce, $14 Off the grub menu (entrees) - not shown * Oxtails with sweet brown gravy and rice and fixin, $32 I wasn't in a waffle mood for waffles, but I had to get the fried chicken. * 2-piece with 2 fixins (mac and cheese & black-eyed peas).
