Prices are on par with other similar places, we ordered 6 of the sandwiches (3 x #1 and 3 x #5) with their Buy 2 Get 1 free deal. The amount of meat wasn't too consistent between the sandwiches and 2 of the #5s I would say didn't have enough meat at all but overall pretty solid flavor-wise. My father was much more impressed by this meat pie pastry that they had, along with their hollow donuts and sesame balls. The spring rolls are a little smaller than similar places but pretty good. People behind the counter were very kind and helpful and got us our food pretty quickly after ordering. This place is one of the primary staples of the El Monte location. Located in a plaza next to Yoshinoya, this place has been the cornerstone for cheap Vietnamese eats. For less than 5-7 bucks, you can get a delicious plate of chicken rice, porkchop rice, or porkchop with shrimp. HIGHLY RECCOMEND coming here near closing hours for cheap deals (I got the last plate for $3 compared to the original 5-7). Where else can you get such a deal? They also have other deals such as $6.50 for beef soup or curry chicken soup , which I highly reccomend with a side of rice prep. Additionally, they have banh mi combos, which go for 6.50 each ( buy two get one free). They also offer hotpot, vermicelli, pad thai, and egg rolls for sale as well as traditional Vietnamese sweets and drinks. If you're on a budget, this is exactly the place for you. Quality is good, however don't expect it to be fine cuisine. You get the biggest bank for your buck, but avoid eating the pickled vegetables and carrots after 1-2 days, it spoils quickly. I've been somewhat a regular customer at this location since moving to this side of town 5 years ago. My family and I would get their hot pot which they stopped serving unfortunately since the pandemic. I'm a fan of their iced fruity tea and milk teas too, although they're on the sweet side. Aside from the hot pot, their rice plates are also a great value. Another specialty they don't get enough credit for is their banh mi. My favorite is #1 which consists of 2-3 different cold cuts. This BMC PHO Banh Mi Che Cali location can be found in the same plaza as Yoshinoya with parking available. My husband and I visited this location this past Saturday, around 5:55 pm. We ended up purchasing: Free tea with Yelp check in and purchase of entree- My husband got a free milk tea, which was too sweet. I didn't need to try it to believe him so I didn't have any. Pork Spring Rolls, $5.50 prior to tax- This was one of those premade rolls already sitting out on the table when we came in and came in a count of 3, which is a good price, compared to other restaurants that sell spring rolls for $5-$6 for 2. This also came with a side of sauce. My husband liked these spring rolls but thinks his mom makes a better sauce (although I really like this sauce). Bi Cuon Chay (Tofu Spring Rolls), $5 prior to tax- I love tofu spring rolls and always buy them when they are on a restaurant menu or if they are premade (since so few restaurants actually offer theses). These spring rolls were definitely stuffed with plenty of fried stripes of tofu, which gives it a nice texture. I enjoyed these and found 3 to be pretty filling. Goi Cuon (Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls), $5.50 prior to tax- Just like the other spring rolls, these also came in an order of 3 and were already premade when we arrived and just picked it up from the table. My husband ate these the next after purchasing and enjoyed eating them. Bahn It Tran, $4 prior to tax- This is sticky rice dumping, but made into a bowl with the filling on top. I am not sure if this was set long enough because the texture was sticky and chewy. I didn't mind it since it reminded me of those Vietnamese rice cakes (Banh Beo). but seemed to have the same texture as freshly pounded mochi. This was a pretty filling bowl. Bahn Duc, $4 prior to tax- Similar texture fo the Bahn It Tran, it was sticky and chewy. But instead of in a bowl, it was cut into circles with ground pork, shrimp, onions and mung bean placed on top. Looks to be very similar to Banh Beo that I normally like to order at Vietnamese restaurants. The portion was quite a lot for one, so I ended up eating half of it and the other half for another meal. #1 Pho Dac Biet, $9.98 prior to tax- My husband ordered this beef filet mignon noodle soup, which was made to order. The noodles were packed in a styrofoam container and the soup was packed in a separate plastic bowl. My husband also had his bean sprouts packed separately in a plastic bag. I didn't have any but my husband liked it (he did add his own hot sauce to it though because he prefers to have his pho spicy and also with hoisin sauce). ------------------------- (Total= $34.98 after tax) In general, I do like the BMC chain and think their food is pretty good and fairly affordable. This BMC PHO Banh Mi Che Cali has got to be one of the worst Banh Mi Che Cali chain locations, and it's a lot different than the ones in OC. They seem to have a larger selection of dishes, less fresh pastries and ches, and smaller selection of banh mi to choose from. I also found that they were both less efficient and less staffed than the OC locations, meaning slower to put in your order and slower to get your order. I don't mind that this location was different but the biggest issue was that they almost short changed me. My boyfriend and I ordered 3 Banh Mi ($6/each, buy 2 get 1 free if you get the round bread) and a Banh Bao ($3.75). I handed her a $20 and a $1 to cover the change. She only gave me back a quarter. We were like wait we didn't buy that much. Good thing we called her out. $5 is a lot to short change people on. In addition to almost short changing me. I asked for the pickled veggies to be on the side. The reason is so the sandwiches don't get soggy inside and they will last longer. I told her in Vietnamese so there is definitely no language barrier issue, just user error. The meat in my Banh Mi Thit Nuong had parts that were hard and cover cooked. I'm glad when I learned about BMC years ago, I didn't first look them up on Yelp. At that time, they had a 2.5 and could've easily swayed me from walking inside. Besides ordering off the menu or sandwiches, they also have grab & go lunches, like bbq chicken, bbq pork, meat loaf or combo items, all served w/ fried egg & rice., wrapped for takeout. This makes for a quick, satisfying and cheap lunch on the go. We usually come here when we suddenly realized it's 1pm and we haven't had lunch yet. I often get banh mi with the bbq chicken set. I've also tried their bun (vermicelli bowls), pho and hot pot,(currently unavailable) and they were all pretty good. The spring rolls have always been fresh and tasty. This is not the first time I had a bad experience with this place; the first time was a rice plate dinner I bought from their counter. I told the staff the next day and was told that they don't serve spoiled food. I decided to go back and ordered chicken noodle soup to go thinking it wouldn't be bad. Then I started eating and slurping up the noodles AND I almost choked to what I thought was fried onion was actually a dead roach! I came here and ordered their large Mix Fruit green tea with boba and egg rolls. The green tea boba was mediocre and disappointing because the quality of mix fruits (strawberry, peaches etc.) used were mushy in texture and appeared old. Similarly their pearl sugar boba was so so in quality and small size. I had an upset stomach after drinking it. That is not a good feeling. Egg rolls were crunchy, warm and flavorful, however. Staff was nice and competent. Prices were very inexpensive and affordable. Overall I wouldn't recommend getting your milk tea at this place.
