Reply to Management: We have a house in Coronado and spend part of the year on the island DAVID. We aren't just "zonies". You have a real issue with personnel. I have never seen a restaurant not operate with a "full hands in / full hands out" mentality. My sister and I came in for our birthday dinner on Saturday from out of town during our visit to beautiful Coronado .Although the service was good the lobster tail we ordered was undercooked . The food looked aesthetically pleasing so I didn't notice until I was halfway through the middle . I didn't finish and became sick on the way back home . It's unfortunate because it's a great restaurant the server was amazing and the atmosphere was beautiful. Actually, this restaurant really disappointed me. We were here 4 years ago, and today we came back hoping to relive some great memories with the whole family. We stopped by, asked for a recommendation, and waited about 45-50 minutes. When the host finally gave us a table, honestly, we didn't like it. I politely asked to upgrade since there were plenty of empty tables available. They refused and told us we'd need to wait another 20 minutes. With two kids, that's just impossible. We were looking for good, fresh seafood appetizers for a snack while on Coronado and heard about Bluewater from one of the local shopkeepers. We weren't disappointed! The decor has the usual fishing gear motif at the front, but the inner restaurant is rather nice. The service seemed a bit slow given that we were there on a Monday around lunch time and there didn't seem to be a lot of people there. When the food arrived, we mostly forgot about the service. The Ponzu Scallops were our favorite! The scallops were very fresh, and the wasabi aioli sold it for us! The New England clam chowder had more clams in it than we have ever had before, and they were delicious! The only slight letdown was the Ahi Tuna Poke. The tuna hadn't been thoroughly cleaned, so we ended up with a few small pieces of cartilage we had to spit out. Overall, a good stop for us on Coronado! read more

First time here, met a couple of colleagues for dinner. Beautiful view, good food, yummy cocktails and excellent service. We shared some appetizers, the prawn cocktail, grilled octopus and poke. I added a Wedge Salad and we all had dessert. I had the key lime pie and my colleagues had creme brulees. If you like spicy, try the Pilikia Margarita and choose the spicy option. The space offers plenty of seating with multiple floors and stunning views from most places in the restaurant. The staff went above and beyond to immerse my party in the dining experience. Concerning the food their turf is great and their surf is even greater. I don't like seafood that much but this restaurant really shows that this type of cuisine is where they shine. What really caught my interest was the desserts. The desserts at bluewater are truly amazing a standout was their key lime pie! When it comes to the prices it really wasn't as expensive as I expected for the level of food they delivered. I'm surprised people rated this high. It's a mediocre place. They originally sat us in a room full of families with children when there was a whole bunch of space downstairs that was empty and quieter. So we asked to be moved where there were no children and they moved us next to another table full of children. We finally got a seat outside. The food..meh. Artichoke dip was not hot and it was kind of dry, calamari was ok and fish and chips were greasy as heck. The prices were pretty high but it's Coronado so... Service was ok, but you could tell they thought we were jerks for asking for a seat away from children. They need an overhaul. When you talk about Bluewater Grill-Coronado, you have to start with the setting and the ambiance. I mean, it's what hits you as you walk up to and into the restaurant. The charming, marina-side boathouse -- especially from dusk onward -- is beautifully lit (and it fits right in with the nearby Hotel Del Coronado). Inside, the rooms look a lot like something you'd see at an established (read: old) yacht club: they're dressed out in nautical/maritime and fishing decor. The large windows overlooking the marina, top off the look and feel of the building. From the moment you enter Bluewater Grill, the friendly staff makes you feel right at home. Throughout our dinner, our server showed up at all the right times, had all of the information we needed, and brought our food promptly (hot out of the kitchen). We had Maryland-style crab cakes (with/in remoulade, scallion oil, and micro greens) for our appetizer and they were...fantastic. Probably in the top three of crab cakes we've ever tried. For our main course, I had the New England-style lobster roll (cold, on a toasted brioche bun) with fries and my wife had the Tuscan artichoke rockfish (snapper from California, coated with oven-dried tomato pesto, topped with panko artichoke hearts over parmesan risotto). My lobster roll was quite good. Perhaps not as large as I've seen before (especially in New England, itself), but the lobster tasted fresh. Overall, it was good but not great. When restaurants pitch anything in a brioche sandwich, I've found that it's a bit overblown. On a scale of 1-10, my lobster roll was a 6. My wife's rockfish dish was, likewise, tasty but she found that the three parts of the dinner "didn't mix well together." The fish, artichoke hearts, and risotto were all good "but the combination of the three didn't work," she said. Likewise, she gave her dinner a 6 (on a 1-10 scale). There's an old saying about waterfront restaurants: you're paying for the view, not the food. And, based on our dinner at Bluewater Grill -- we paid close to $50 each for a simple dinner that was OK but didn't match the setting -- bears that out. We would give the place another shot the next time we're in town, but we'd probably try something less complicated...perhaps a fried shrimp dish or a hamburger. read more

I hosted a Meetup with 15 people yesterday at the Bluewater Grill. It started off great, as the hostess took my reservation two weeks earlier for the full group without making me jump through hoops with a sales person, or waiting for a callback from the Manager, as usually happens. We arrived and we had a beautiful, semi private area on the first floor of the spectacular restaurant. Emily and Gloria took awesome care of us. It was very much appreciated that we had two waitresses. It really speeded up our experience. I am still getting comments the next day about what a great time my Meetup friends had at this restaurant. Everybody ordered something different and everybody was happy with the food quality, temperature and taste. I met with Derek, the General Manager, on the way out, and he was very personable and told some fun stories. I highly recommend this restaurant for any size party. read more

The ambiance was lovely, we sat upstairs for happy hour and had a nice harbor view. The service was not bad, our waiter was friendly and cheerful. The only problem I had with the service is that our entree dishes took a rather long time to come out following the appetizer. We ordered the calamari and the shrimp cocktail as apps which were both delicious, the dipping sauces for the calamari were very good and the shrimp was very fresh tasting. One of us ordered the crab blt which was somewhat disappointing and not too flavorful with barely any bacon, we also ordered the orange and walnut crusted halibut which was delicious and a good portion. Enjoyed lunch with co-workers at this restaurant and I must say, it was delightful! The food I had was amazing! Ordered a lobster roll that was incredibly fresh, savory, and perfect! The calamari appetizer had the crunch all calamari plates should have salty level was balanced it was tasty. The service provided by a gentleman was professional brought humor to the table. He was courteous and topped off our drinks every chance he could even when the afternoon was busy. The dining areas were spacious and the views of the deck and marina were a treat. The kids ordered from the kids' menu and had the cheeseburger slider and salmon 'dippers'. What I love most is how healthy the food was. The fries did not have too much salt. They offered juice to drink, and it included orange slices. In addition, I thought the dippers were fried, but it was baked salmon. The kids loved every bite, and we ended up getting them an additional side of fries to share. I wasn't hungry and shared the crab cakes and the steamed shellfish combo. Loved the crab cakes but did not enjoy the shellfish. We opted for the clams/mussels combo and found the broth/white wine sauce to be a bit bland. We also ordered the salmon w/ greens and mushroom and chimichurri sauce and it was AMAZING! Service was absolutely excellent! Our server Tyler was very patient and friendly, and the GM stopped by the table and was also really nice. This is located right on the water and was an absolute treat. Three stars for food. Five stars for service and location. I was really torn about how to rate this one. The food overall was just ok. The bread was warm and delicious (especially with butter). My mother in law and I both had a cup of clam chowder. We both agreed it was good. I had the fish tacos. They did not have a ton of flavor, but they weren't bad. My husband had the burger. I wish I took a photo so you could have seen what we saw. The hamburger patty itself was a a normal size, but the bun was the size of a slider. No joke-- the top part of the bun looked like a top hat on the patty. Other than that, the flavor of the burger was good. My MIL had the seafood louie salad. She said it was fine, but it either lacked dressing or didn't have dressing. (I don't know if she asked for some). Like many of the other restaurants we eat at, I looked for a dog-friendly patio. We came in the Tuesday before Thanksgiving around noon. Our party of four (and little dog) were seated right away. We were close to the front of the restaurant and like most, if not all, of the tables, we had a view of the water/harbor. The weather was a perfect 70-ish degrees. You truly can't beat the location and the view. Parking was easy. They have a lot right outside. Service was excellent. They checked in on us regularly and were really sweet with our dog, who tends to get anxious when anyone comes near the table. Four stars to balance out the just-ok food and the excellent service. Very good dinner. Simply prepared cod with rice and green beans. The fish was some of the best I've ever had. Appetizer was oysters Rockefeller expertly prepared. Many places drench the oysters in butter but these were perfectly appointed and left the oyster as the star of the dish. Service was very quick and professional. Ambience was nice. Ate on the deck and had the sun the entire meal. Very nice. Price point is very high even though the food is lovely. Coronado summer prices are exorbitant. We visited Bluewater Grill this weekend for what was supposed to be a celebration for my mother's 70th birthday. Instead it turned into a nightmare of worrying all night long that I was going to have food poisoning due to being served a rancid oyster . We got a dozen oysters, and upon chewing the first oyster I noticed the most foul smell on both the shell and oyster. I immediately knew this was not fresh and had gone bad, spit out oyster into the napkin as well as washed my mouth out My mother smelled it as well and was absolutely appalled. My pants even smelled like the rotten oyster due to the napkin having remnants of the oyster. I asked the waitress to take the oyster to the back for the manager to smell so he could see what was as served. The manager came back and said that the "oyster is turning, has not gone fully bad, but is on its way ." He refunded me HALF of the oysters, not even the entire dish .... It is sad to see that the restaurant is keeping oysters past their date, and I'm honestly so lucky I did not get food poisoning or I would have been in hospital . One of our clients planned a dinner here on a recent trip to San Diego. I love seafood so was really excited to check it out. There was a decent size group of us, 10 people I think, but there were plenty of spaces for large groups spread out around the restaurant. Our server was friendly and attentive and made suggestions on what we should order to share versus what wasn't enough.
