Our a/c outdoor fan/compressor unit started humming, the fan was running but there was no cooling. I called Blue Star and was able to schedule an appointment for the next morning. Ray was the technician sent. He arrived a little early and listened to my concern and told me he would run a diagnostic but he was pretty sure he knew what the problem was. After his test he did a very thorough job of explaining what he found and actually showed me outside what his test meter readings were displaying. We had a faulty capacitor. He explained the capacitor runs the compressor and the fan. The fan side was working but not the compressor side, which was the hum and no cooling. Ray replaced the capacitor and tested the system again and all was working properly. We highly recommend Blue Sky Heating and Air and technician Ray. Unethical and Untrustworthy. We've been with these guys for over 4 years. I am unsure if they changed business model to upsell things or if it's under a new management, but the recent appointment was off from the very get go. Scheduled a Tuneup service like every year before summer picks up as requested by tenant. I call them, dispatcher picks up fails to find the active account in the system or taking correct address which should show all maintenance history and records. The two techs dispatched were perhaps in late teens or early 20s, by all means age is not a measure of experience but they barely spent may be 5-8mins inspecting the unit and claim unit is in need of Freon and their supervisor will call. This is where the fun begins, the on-site techs call the supervisor and he immediately starts selling HVAC coil or unit replacement because it is 10years old. He continues saying the unit needs 4-5 pounds of Freon (what?) and I am looking at $600, there might be a possibility of a leak, then proceeds to claim coil or HVAC replacement as the only viable fix. I asked a followup question asking shouldn't they atleast try and find if a leak exists and whether it can be fixed before replacing ? I asked the on-site tech if they did leak test, they shook heads and say no; obviously they didn't. But, the supervisor on phone quickly switches to their native language and now both onsite techs revert back their position saying they have, please!! At this point, I ask them if they could atleast have the Freon recharge while I consider the options they suggested. On-site techs say they didn't bring any and supervisor on the phone claims they can't do a recharge because i need to sign a waiver and they will send it in email then hangs up. Basically no tuning or fix happens and both techs leave claiming their supervisor or sales team will be in touch, without any tune up a fix performed. Within secs tech have left, Dispatcher Berna and Joyce starts sending texts asking for invoice to be paid for the visit. I explain Joyce, I was still waiting for the waiver to be sent; no tune up or a fix was performed and nothing was addressed yet ask her when can I have the repair options and summary to be sent by said supervisor. This is where she gets defensive over text saying work was performed and invoice needs to be paid every 10mins. It's fairly common for HVAC techs to waive or count the service visit towards repair. After an hour, I get an email with two quotes, one for coil replacement with $3k and unit replacement for $7k. Still no waiver as I discussed with supervisor on phone. So, all in all with a 20some tech doing bare minimum looksy for the unit in 5mins, an over enthusiastic sales pitch and the focus being clearly on making a large $$ I lost any confidence I once placed on this company to trust them with the repair. So, yes Joyce can have her invoice paid but she lost my business. read more

Don't use this company without getting other quotes first. Blue Sky came out and told me my AC unit is from 2010 and would cost $1,320 to replace three faulty parts. However, the technician Luis couldn't approximate how long the repair would last and was pushing for a total replacement at $7,450, but I needed to commit by end of day or lose the appointment in two days. He did a poor job explaining the issue very briefly in technical jargon, so I didn't really understand what the problem was. He claimed AC units last 10-12 years but the internet says otherwise, and I have another AC unit that's 19 years old and still working. And although he emailed me the replacement estimate right away, it took some back and forth via text for him to send me the repair estimate hours later. Same estimate he showed me quickly in person. And my same email he already contacted earlier, so it was all on his ipad. Clearly, he didn't want me considering that path at all. Sensing dishonesty, I called Greg's Heating and Air for a second opinion and they fixed it same day for $484 including a pound of Freon. Also said the unit is from 2014 so it's not actually that old. It was working great again within 45 minutes. Only the capacitor needed replacing, not the contactor or hard start kit that Blue Sky padded into my estimate. The guy had me really panicking about my budget and how I was going to afford replacement even with their payment plan. By calling Greg's, I saved $836 on the repair (and over $7k by not replacing a unit with years of life left). Protect yourself and 'trust but verify' even the companies on Yelp with amazing reviews. So disappointed. We had them out for a standard service pre-season. $169 for two units. They also told me I needed a capacitor replaced and that would be an additional $300. I googled the capacitor and it's a $12 part. I asked and they replied it was travel and blah, blah blah. My usual technician replaced it at no cost. Then, three weeks later my AC stopped working. Usual technician came out and $250. Why did I pay $169 when they didn't address my needs? I can't recommend Blue Sky. read more

We contracted Blue Sky to do some off-season zoning/duct work for us. On our already zoned system, they re-arranged the ductwork as planned to re-arrange the ducts covered by each zone. On our non-zoned system, they added a zoning system including moving around ductwork as necessary, rebuilding the plenum, etc... We've been reliably using Blue Sky for years and when our AC unit was acting up about a year ago Blue Sky came out and told us we needed to replace our entire unit. We went with their recommendation and replaced everything. We are now a year later and our brand new HVAC unit is not handling this summer's heat well. Our upstairs had been around 85 degrees. I called Blue Sky and they came out the next day. The technician told me that the bad air flow to our upstairs was due to a failed damper motor and the damper would not open. I was excited that he found the solution to our problems. I called to setup the damper replacement and they told me it would be TWO WEEKS until they could come out to replace the damper. I couldn't wait 2 weeks, so that same day I started researching dampers and damper actuators. When I went to examine our damper motor I noticed that the damper motor screw that moves when the damper opens and closes was tucked behind the duct work in such a way that it wouldn't allow the damper to move out of the closed position. I freed the screw and the damper opened... and the upstairs started to cool. I don't know if Blue Sky was just wanting money or if the technician really had no idea what he was doing. Either way, I'm really glad I didn't end up paying them over $1300 dollars to replace something that wasn't broken and I was able to fix within an hour. Such a bummer of an experience after being such a loyal customer for so many years. I would search for a more reliable and competent company. Unfortunately, Blue Sky is not the one. read more

I got home from a three day stay at the hospital yesterday and came a warm home. Nothing worse than just wanting to get back into your own bed and having to scramble to find an ac company that could come quickly. I got an appointment early the next morning and Luis quickly determined that the Nest thermostat was bad. They didn't carry Nest, but I had replaced it once and knew how to do it. The diagnosis charge was very reasonable and I bought a new thermostat and a local big box store and was up and running a few hours later. I had done research a couple of months ago in anticipation of the hot summer and Blue Sky had very high ratings and is locally owned. I will get a maintenance done soon and will surely give them a call. Being in wheelchair makes it difficult for me to do things on my own, so it is always a nice feeling when you get great service at a good price. read more

We found Blue Sky through our awful home warranty service, AHS, like other reviewers, but continued with them once the warranty ended. They are friendly, honest, and explain things clearly. A different company installed our HVAC, but we went with Blue Sky for routine tune-ups and concerns because they're so much more reliable. As a note to anyone who gets treated with sexism or homophobia from service technicians who work on your home or car, I can say that my wife and I have only experienced respect and kindness from Andy, the technician who has serviced our equipment most, if not every time. Called and explained I have a mini split AC system. Waited for tech to arrive and he informed me they don't service mini splits.

I did end up getting a new AC, but Blue Sky Heating and Air first did everything they could to keep my old one going. They are not a company that comes out and first thing wants to sell you a new HVAC system. In fact, my heater is fine, so they just replaced only the outside condenser outside unit. Ron came out and checked everything before determining whether a new AC unit was needed. Tommy and Ky (sp?) replaced the unit, and they know what they are doing. They came out the next day and replaced the unit. The new unit is cooling great. In fact, I am turning it up at times because I get too cold - never had that happened with my old unit.
