I would have loved to review the food but we got up and left before we even ordered. I arrived around 10:10am on a Wednesday, and there was no one at the host stand. After a few minutes, I peeked around the corner and saw no servers on the floor. At nearly 10:20am, a server finally came to the front and apologized for not noticing anyone was waiting to be seated. Ok, fine. It happens. Plus my friend that was meeting me hadn't arrived yet. I had requested to sit outside but apparently there's a bee problem on their patio so they've halted outdoor seating. Instead, the server sat me at a booth, which was pretty cozy, but I noticed there were dirty dishes all over the restaurant, which wasn't super busy at the time. Not a great look. The menu looked pretty inviting, and I saw some fun looking coffee drinks on their Yelp page, so I was still hopeful at this point. Once my friend arrived, we intended to order some espresso, and the server then informed us that the only options they had were coffee & iced coffee, despite espresso and "Specialty Beverages" being listed on the menu. Frustrating, but not the end of the world; we expressed our disappointment and requested a minute to regroup. We decided to order food and go elsewhere to grab a coffee. Welp, the server walked by our table a number of additional times to haphazardly clear other tables, seat other guests, fail to notice us trying to get her attention, and then completely disappear. After waiting for almost ten minutes, we stood up, looked around and no servers were on the floor, while a number of unhappy guests waited at the host stand. It was as if the waitstaff had completely given up. If they are understaffed and overworked, I feel for them. Went to Blue Plate Kitchen twice. We went early on a weekend and were seated very promptly-- the place is clean with typical diner vibes, no frills. I ordered the smoked salmon eggs Benedict both visits. The first time it was heavenly-- the latke was just the right thickness, well-seasoned and fried to perfection. The hollandaise sauce was the best I had ever had. But the second time around, the hollandaise was grainy and obviously split and the latke was extremely thick which I wouldn't mind if it wasn't doughy in the center somehow. My partner ordered the corned beef hash and enjoyed it, it was a good portion and had a nice brown on it. He also ordered the cheddar grits which were a skip-- extremely watery, small portion and if you order bacon on top (for a dollar surcharge) they put about 3-4 small crumbles. I wouldn't mind go here again but I had some inconsistency with the food, though when something was a hit it was good. Overall a positive experience and I would even try ordering the eggs benedict again to just have that amazing hollandaise again. Inexplicably terrible. I've had more coherent dining experiences at gas stations. We use to be regulars. Food, service and drinks were excellent, but the new ownership is entirely committed to erasing all of the positive experiences long term patrons still desperately cling to as they begrudgingly give it "one more chance". The service moved with the urgency of a hungover sloth clocking in for community service. Drinks took 20 minutes, presumably because they were being sourced from a distant spring by mule. The food arrived an hour later looking like it had lost the will to live halfway through. My boyfriend's bagel was cold, but the salmon was hot -- a culinary paradox that suggests nobody in the kitchen has ever met before. My plate was blisteringly molten while the corned beef Bennie itself was fridge-temperature and aggressively lacquered in what can only be described as hollandaise-flavoured regret. The "corned beef" tasted like it had been shouted at rather than seasoned -- burnt, greasy, and sulking. While we were delicately negotiating which parts were safe to consume, a poor soul collecting a to-go order mentioned they'd already waited 30 minutes past pickup time, only to receive food that was ice cold and stale enough to qualify as archival material. A server whisked it away, returned two minutes later and proudly announced, "I microwaved it". Then they slapped down a check and fled before the customer could form a complete sentence. The industrial look of the restaurant is great, but get those floors fixed & cleaned! We were there mid morning on a Friday for breakfast. Not many customers, so why was service so slow? The servers were very nice; it just took a long time to get even a cup of coffee. Food was really good. I had scrambled eggs (I asked for them to be soft & they were). Grits were good too. My husband had the kitchen sink skillet. Very good except the potatoes. The pieces were huge. So - I'll come back in a while and see if I can rate 4 or 5 stars again. read more

The pancake arrived in the rare and unfortunate state of being both stale and undercooked at the same time; an impressive contradiction, though not a desirable one. The home-fried potatoes suffered a similar fate, arriving undercooked and still noticeably raw. The scrambled eggs were serviceable, "as expected, but nothing special" and the avocado toast, while reasonably flavorful, looked hastily assembled, with the avocado unevenly distributed across the bread. But the most egregious misstep was the toast. What landed on the table was visibly burnt, with clear evidence that someone had attempted to scrape off the char before placing it on the plate, scrape marks and all, flipped upside down as if hoping we'd "shove it in our mouths without even looking at it." If you're going to burn toast, there are really only two respectable options: send it out loud and proud, as if to say, "Hey, we don't know how to make toast, you should have ordered something else," or, perhaps more appropriately (if I am paying for food) remake the toast. Under new ownership and management the menu has changed and definitely not for the worst; just simpler and still very creatively comforting. We were able to sit outside on their private patio with our pup. Our server, Nicole, took great care of our pup and us. We enjoyed a couple of beverages and burgers. Mine BPK Classic burger super charge with a fried egg and crispy bacon and side of park fries. My wife Salmon burger with lettuce tomato and sauce with a side salad. Both plates nicely filling and no complaints, except our pup would not eat her French fry, Salmon an entirely different response. This place has potential, but my experience wasn't great. They have a lot of tables, but were clearly understaffed on a Sunday morning. The food took a while, and the service was slow. The food was good, some creative options on the menu too. When I received my bill, the price for our entrees was higher on our bill than it was on the menu. We get to have some lovely bread pudding appetizer as we perused the menu and sipped our coffees. I absolutely love being greeted with a tasty "preamble!" Service was good and so was the food. I've been here several times. BPK has been a reliable social breakfast place. This time was different. Pros; Easy parking Kids meal is a great deal. Fluffy and huge pancake with one egg, one meat and a drink. Totally reasonable. They also brought my child's meal first which was wildly appreciated. Eggs are always poached perfectly The coffee is endless and they offer alternative milks The wait staff is always kind and accommodating Cons; I brought my baby with me this time and the high chair they brought was covered in the last diners meal. My steak and chimichurri was just a few slices of meat and did not come with the sauce. When I inquired they brought out two cups of sauces, neither was chimichurri and the red sauce bubbled and had clearly spoiled. When I told my waitress she said she's let the chef know but nothing else was done. The hollandaise on the eggs Benedict was sweet and was more like a mild lemon curd than a hollandaise. Cheddar grits were just soupy grits with a cluster of cold cheese on top The home fries were huge oily potato wedges under seasoned. We left most of the meal uneaten and do not intend to go back. I've been here twice now and each time we were the only customers there. This is usually a red flag for me. Both times the restaurant was empty and we waited a good five to ten minutes at the hostess stand before someone came from the back to seat us (despite me calling ahead and letting them know we were coming). The place was dirty. The floors had dirty napkins and food. The tables were dirty. The staff seemed to mostly just hang out in the back and chat. Loudly. I was surprised by how much we liked their food. I really wasn't expecting much but the cheeseburger eggroll appetizer and the chicken cordon bleu wrap were both delicious!! My husbands burger was good too. My daughter's salad was not great. The lettuce was brown and gross. Her chicken bacon ranch wrap was not good either. Bottom line.. it's hit or miss. The owner either needs to retrain the staff or hire new staff and be much more attentive to customers. They are in a great location and the food has the potential to be great, it's the staff and attention to details that need work. We will try again in a few months! read more

I'm a self-professed clam chowder snob. There are so many things to consider in the making of this classic soup, and few restaurants come close to doing most of them well. Broth flavor and aroma, thickness, creaminess, onion and smoky nuances, richness, potato size and degree of tenderness, fresh vs canned clams, tenderness, size...I probably left a few out. Bottom line, BPK has one of the best clam chowders I've had, and definitely the best in recent memory. Go for lunch, go for dinner, stay for the chowder! read more

This restaurant gives a very traditional cozy feel. My visit was on a very warm day and it was pretty chilly in the restaurant so I would advise bringing a jacket or small sweater. There is outdoor, patio seating which was fine when I went but does overlook the plaza parking lot. The food was decent. I personally didn't care for the meatballs. The mozzarella topping was too cheesy for me, however, the portion size was large as they gave about 6 meatballs! Garlic knots were included and were a tasty addition. The Cobb salad was delicious! Went there on a Thursday night for dinner. There was only 1 other group there, which made me nervous. No staff to be found. Waiting about 5 minutes for a gentleman to seat us. So let us talk a bit about Blue Plate Kitchen...... I walked up off into the spot and was greeted with a warm and friendly hello. I had asked to sit outside and grabbed myself up a table. I would say that my waitress had arrived roughly 3 minutes after I took my seat with two different menu's (breakfast and lunch). as she went back inside to grab my drinks. It was a nice overall vibe. Ugh, it tasted of a paste type film, not anyones Hellmans or any type of Mayo that I could enjoy. More celery flavored macaroni shells if anything that even salt and pepper couldn't help but I was not here for the macaroni salad. The Pastrami Sandwich packed all of the flavor that I needed. They did not skimp with the pastrami at all. Had that deli freshness about it, thinly cut and very tender. The Swiss cheese and mustard made it come together nicely and each bite was one made for the record books of great sandwiches. This was my first time having cool ranch fries and I suggest that you get these immediately! Just think of crispy fries with Doritos cool ranch powder all over them for a powerful zesty blend of potato heaven that will send your taste buds ablaze, all while thanking you every single chew. I added in a breakfast sandwich...Bacon, Egg and Cheese on an English Muffin and it was decent. I can't believe I haven't posted a review sooner. I've been here quite a few times for Sunday brunch & besides the wait times, everything is perfect. This time, I dined here for the first time on a Saturday & according to their website, they're under new ownership. I was happy to see it was less busy on this visit. We were seated within 5mins. They still offer the complimentary bread pudding which was in front of me within seconds of sitting. I ordered the Kitchen Sink with a side of cheese less grits. Prior to the the change over, this wasn't an option. The grits were always made with the cheese. After taking my Yelp pictures, I dug in. Of course I started with the grits. Sadly, I was not a fan. Whatever seasoning they used, wasn't good for me. Tasted like I was drinking a steak. The consistency & taste was similar to white gravy. I added 2 pats of butter. It helped a little but now they became watery. I couldn't eat it. The Kitchen Sink however, was good. Eggs were fluffy but room temperature, bacon crisp, potato & sausages were savory. The amount is also generous. You'll definitely have leftovers. The decor & layout of the restaurant hasn't really changed, besides replacing the 2 person booths with high tables across from the bar. The hostess & waitress were nice & attentive. I'll come back at some point, but unfortunately, I won't order the grits again, which is an important factor for my breakfast/brunch decisions. read more
