Wind and sheets of rain outside in Waikiki you'd never know that was happening inside the cozy interiors of the Blue Note. We arrived an hour earlier than 5:00 pm door opening but the line was already 25+. Construction is going on so you might need to climb the stairs one level to get here. Thank my lucky stars the elevator worked for me to get to the lobby. Have your tickets ready. I was hoping for a booth and we did get one off to the side. Placed our dinner order with Hannah. I told Doc if we spent $250 more it would be a 1K evening. We are eating prime rib and lamb shank plus pupu of poke nachos. I liked the taro chips since sadly I don't eat raw fish. Show is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. this gives us time to leisurely enjoy our dinner. Although the prime rib was tough, the veggies were overcooked the tastiest item on the plate was the mashed potatoes. Our server was attentive and refilled our water. She was excellent cuz she took my credit card and processed the tab right then. The furniture in our booth shows wear and tear on the seats and backs. Nevertheless the ambiance is good. read more

My kids' and my first time at the Blue Note to watch Pure Heart. My oldest son is a huge fan of Jake Shimabukuro, who opened up for the group (he is in the group). Parking: Difficult. We got to Waikiki around 7 pm both of the suggested valet parking options on the website were only accepting hotel guests. We decided to park across from the International Market. You have to purchase $25 at one of the businesses, and that business will validate. The first hour is "free", the second hour is $3, and the third hour is $3. We went to Target after the show, purchased more of the items I wanted, and had them validated. Food and drinks: extra $20 minimum per person The food was okay. Nothing stood out to me. We ordered too much and had to bring a lot back home. We ordered: Smoked Ahi Dip ($22)- It came with chips. Citrus Farm Green ($18) Salad Yuzu Lemon Vinaigrette, Shallots, Goat Cheese, Satsuma Orange . I added shrimp (+18). I wouldn't get this again. I ordered the I Got Ube ($18) drink, and I enjoyed it. It wasn't too sweet. . One of my son's got the Blue Note Sundae ($16) it's Lappert's Vanilla Mac Nut Ice Cream, Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream, Crush Macadamia Nut, Maraschino Cherry. Tiramisu ($16) My kids each got a drink two cokes and a pineapple juice which cost $5 each. Service: Great! She checked on us often. The staff did great working together to drop off food and take plates away. Seating: There is premium seating or Loge and Bar seating. We purchased premium seating. It's first come first served when it comes to seating. Originally I was aiming to seat in the middle of the booth on the floor. Due to coming later then I thought we got a booth at the end. If you seat in the premium seating in the booth you will have people walking in front of you on the floor. To me the premium seating right above the booths in the middle is really good seating because it's in the center and a step above. If you don't want people walking in front of you get the table seatings on the floor. It was hot in the venue that night and luckily I brought my portable fan. Even Jon Yamasato the singer of Pure Heart even mentioned how hot it was during the show. Video/photography: I read in other reviews they were not able to video or take pictures. I think it depends on the artist. We were able to video and take pictures. Overall, we would come here to watch another show. The service was good. I liked the ambience. We chose a table on the upper level on the right side of the center section. This gave us good views of the stage and no one in front of us blocked our views. We ordered double Hendricks gin & tonics, a Caesar Salad, Portobello Arrabbiata, and the Jidori Coconut Basil Chicken. Interestingly, the pasta dish didn't have any portobello mushrooms; it featured pieces of Maitake mushrooms. Like before, the pasta was somewhat overcooked, but the spicy marinara sauce was fine. The chicken half came with what tasted like plain rice sitting in a coconut cream sauce. The rice was described as crispy cilantro lime rice ... I don't think so. Our biggest complaint about the chicken was that it was slightly overdone ... My leg was fine, but the breast meat was dry. We passed on dessert and I had a cup of black coffee. Food rating: 3+. The Concert I've followed Stanley Jordan for a long time and have many of his albums, starting with Magic Touch in 1985. That CD opened my ears to a different style of guitar playing. I thought I was a guitarist .... No, I'm a hack. Stanley, now 66, played his Vigier (a French guitar), another one whose name I couldn't see, and a grand piano during his 1.5-hour set. I wasn't able to check out his pedal setup. If you haven't heard him play, you are missing out on a virtuoso of improvisational jazz. Trained as a pianist, he plays with both hands, on one guitar or two. He played two songs seated at the piano and switched hands during each ... All while singing. His set included Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby, My Funny Valentine, and a couple of songs from his forthcoming album, Feather in the Wind. The Blue Note is perfectly suited for small scale / solo performances by artists like Stanley Jordan. Highly recommended! Concert rating: 5+. read more

I had a great experience at Blue Note for the Yuki Chiba concert. The lines were controlled, and the food/drinks were on point. Tried the Blue Note Sundae and Tiramisu. Both were delicious and very cool how you can dine while watching the show. Only issue I have is that although you buy premium seating - it's still FCFS, so you need to show up early if you want good seats. Another big plus is that they had a pretty good non-alcoholic menu for the people who don't want to drink alcohol (like me). I really enjoyed my experience and the server was helpful. This type of venue is more intimate and definitely a good idea for a cool night out. read more

The second you walked in, you could feel that "this is gonna be a good one" energy -- and the performers delivered all night long Mindy Smokestack set the tone with a lineup that was stacked with talent. I've been to the Blue Note multiple times over the past years, and this is my first review of it. I realized that the overall experience may change, based on your excitement and enjoyment of the show being watched, so I decided to rate it based on just the food and service as a venue, without regard to the show that I attended. The menu does change (both food and drinks), depending on the artist performing, so that's a positive. At least management knows that the audience demographic, and their tastes in dining, changes, based on the artist. The food is prepared by the Sheraton chefs and is fairly average, especially for the premium prices being charged. The prices equal what you'd pay at a high-end restaurant, but, due to the layout, and venue showtime, it is difficult for the staff to provide the level of service that would be expected. The food preparation and taste are good, but not great; same with the bar drinks. If I included the enjoyment of the show, I'd add another star (or two), but that's too random, especially because you're paying separately for that ticket. If you want to enjoy the food experience a bit more, I'd recommend arriving and waiting in line to be one of the first to enter, to have as much time to order, get served, and eat, before the show starts. Even then, the quality of F&B service is a bit overpriced, imo. Also, I've always parked at the Outrigger East hotel on Kuhio, and they usually charge $6 for up to 4 hours, with validation. This night though, I was charged $10. Just another annoying glitch. read more

July 18, 2026 - attended the KPop dance event. The Blue Note venue, event, and wait service was great however the food was sub-par and over priced!. Sodas were flat, food took long (granted all orders were going in at once but it did almost an hour which included waiting to place to arrival of food). Ordered a kids meal and this pork shrimp, basically shumai. It seemed like it was costco products throughout but was over priced. Guess it was a donation. Staff was great and friendly. We went to a concert at. the Blue Note in Waikiki to listen to Josh Tatofi. Go early because Tatofi sell out this venue. We got in line by 4:30 and they start seating at 5:00, We were seated at a table for 4 and shortly later our server came to take our orders, you have to spend $20 per person at this venue. Since nobody drinks alcohol on our table were ordered food. Our table ordered scallops which changed from encrusted with pistachios to sauted in wine, two orders of smoked ahi dip and an order of poke nachos. The scallops were not seared and it was a shame that they were tasteless. The smoked ahi dips were also a disappointment, pretty bland. The ahi poke nachos were over sauced which made it too messy to eat. I wish we drank alcohol because that would be better than the food here. Saving grace was that Josh Tatofi and gang were awesome. I will return to listen to music again but I may not order food again. I've heard that the food has been terrible for years. read more

Came here to watch Courtney Barnett's solo show. You can dine-in and they have a dollar $20 minimum per person, food and/or drinks. JP was our server for the night and provided excellent service. The venue is cozy and some people, including my wife, complained about how warm it was. It ended up getting busy as the venue filled up, so service seemed a bit affected. The prime rib was delicious! Man, this was a difficult experience from start to finish. I will say that the staff was nice, even if they were a bit scattered and kept delivering the wrong items to our table. In summary: If you're seeing a show here, try to spend only what you must ($20/person) and dine elsewhere for food. Food: Food was mediocre at best, but prices were exorbitant. My friend and I ordered the Pistachio scallops ($25) and the Lobster Carbonara ($40). She also got a AMF. Pistachio scallops - Only three pieces given. Scallops were good and not overcooked, but the carrots that covered the dish seemed like they were shredded hours earlier and were dry and shriveled. Lobster Carbonara - Lobster pieces were good, but the sauce lacked flavor. I asked the server for salt and pepper, and they said they'd look for some, but never returned with any. Noodles were overcooked and mushy, which made the dish kind of gritty. We were also offered bread for the pasta, but ended up being charged $10 for three and a half pieces of cold focaccia. AMF - My friend said the drink was strong, which was a plus! Service: The silverware we were given in the wrapped napkins were still dirty, with food stuck to the back of the forks. Asked a passing server for new cutlery, and they were kind enough to bring us fresh sets. Runners kept bringing food to our table that was meant for neighboring seats. DURING PAYMENT - their tip options automatically default to the following three choices in the following order: 25%, 20%, 30%. I think this is incredibly sneaky on management's part, so please be aware. Parking: We parked at the Outrigger Ohana Waikiki East on Kuhio and received the validation for $6/4hr. However, when I used the machine, it charged me $10 and ignored the validation. I called the help button and the employee kept hanging up on me, until I used a different machine at the exit and someone actually picked up. The attendant told me that "that's too bad your validation didn't work." And just hung up on me. Wtf?? Why even offer validation at that point? I wouldn't come back to Blue Note again anytime soon unless there's an artist I'm absolutely dying to see, and if I do, I'm now wise to their tricks. read more

Kudos to my dear friend and YE, Marissa K for scoring prime seats and view in half moon, plush green cushioned booth for Jiaoying Summers Comedy Show. I hurriedly rushed in from commute, traffic after work. Made it 30 mins before show time thanks to valet. Jiaoying kindly requested no photography and videography during the show. Able to see well from the distance. Great customer service from the Servers. They're willing to turn the lights in a different direction if shining too bright. One star for food. Calamansi Spritz: Mocktail didn't make a good first impression. Watered down. Some carbonation. Barely tasted calamansi. Hawaiian Shrimp Ceviche: Shrimp tasted uncooked b/c it was extra soft. Taro chip tasted good. We returned this appetizer after one try to our Server, stated the shrimp tasted uncooked, extremely soft, and if we could order something else. We didn't get charged for this app. KJ's Bourbon Bread Pudding: Worst bread pudding I've had in terms of taste, texture and presentation. Too mushy! New York Cheesecake: This dessert passed our test for discriminative palates. Edible. Please make improvements and serve top quality food and beverages. There is currently construction happening at Outrigger, so the lobby was small and cramped. We came here for Tumua at 7:45 for his 8:30 show and the line did not exist. We tried to make a line but they opened the doors at 8:20 and everyone just went to the door. People waited in line and people who just came cut in the mov of people. Very annoying. No one to monitor the line and was told to gather in the far corner which caused no line. Terrible and disappointing. Didn't get in until 8:35 and the show was suppose to start at 8:30.. When we came in and ordered at 8:42 all the main dishes were sold out. The braised short ribs, lamb polenta, and the steak... We ordered the garlic edamame that was $14 but so little bit! Literally a handful.. should be $4 at the most. The salmon was the catch of the day for $45 which was dry. The rice was very tasty it was garlic cilantro. Tumua was excellent and hilarious. Blue note is terrible though. I don't like that you must buy $20 worth of food or drinks if young a premium seat. They also need to hire someone to manage the line so there's no cutting or chaos. If you're claustrophobic, you won't enjoy the Blue Note. Jammed in last night to hear Kat Timpf who was mediocre but occasionally amusing. The venue however was crap. Construction in the hotel lobby which meant temporary, sub par AC in the venue. Even Timpf and Dr. Drew complained how hot it was and quit early. Tables totally packed as close as possible which made for uncomfortable navigation and seating arrangements. The food, that which was available and not "sold out", completely overpriced, tiny portions. As for the drinks I refuse to pay $5 for flavored water and thankfully I don't imbibe because $18-22 for a thimble of liquor was a joke. And why a $20 minimum is required? Back in the day it was a two drink minimum which would be $40 here. Don't they make enough on the expensive tickets? Enough said, I won't go back but I'm sure many will. read more

Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result... Food is two types of "terrible". It's TERRIBLE...and it's TERRIBLY EXPENSIVE for what they serve. Service is just "blah" to completely "uninterested" but it's expected because they are getting paid regardless due to the "mandatory minimum" of $20 per person. The only time we "faithfully" saw our server was when the check was ready, other than that, waiting for refills was just that, an extended wait and that's "IF" she returned. Asking for ice tea refill would either be a wait or not recieved. Not sure if they were having a shortage of available ice, because the water had no ice, the ice tea was served without ice...you would expect for charging "$20.00" per person, ice would be included in the drinks. Ambiance is the only thing that keeps us coming back, that and the talent. So unfortunately, being one of the better locations in Waikiki for entertainment, you have to take the good with the obvious and notoriously bad food and service. Rating the FOOD only!! Expensive and subpar quality. The poke nachos were decent. The bbq ribs were DRY! Like super dry. Daughter choked on it trying to swallow it because it was so dry. Husband couldnt even finish his dish and he usually is not picky with foods. The short rib loco moco was okay. The gravy tasted very "cheap". Thats the only word I can think of to describe it. We gave Blue Note a second chance. We waited outside until the 9 pm show. We were early in line so we were able to choose where we would sit. We could've chosen the table up close and personal with the artist but we chose the booth instead which was nice because it was close enough but comfortable. I think that's the winning part of this experience. The fact that it's a small room which makes it an intimate experience to be in such close proximity to the stage and you're able to be so up-close and personal. I enjoyed Robert Schneider's performance at tonight's dinner and show. The dinner itself was over-priced in my opinion but ultimately, you're paying for the experience. I got the Calamansi spritz which was okay. My partner ordered the ceviche which wasn't bad, my friend ordered the poke which she claimed was flavorless, and I ordered the green pasta with chicken. It was $11 to add on chicken. Yikes! The star of the show for me was the chocolate cake. It was decadent and delicious! Our server was training someone who came by and made sure we had water several times. My only complaint was when I asked him for his recommendation, he sounded exasperated and said "You have to give me something to work with. What do you like? A starter an entree?" And so I said chicken. He stated they didn't have any chicken options. So I just chose something random since I felt rushed and he didn't seem to care about my ordering experience. We still tipped him over our $20 required order per person because it was the right thing to do. He did have a lot of tables and was probably in a time crunch to serve us before the show started. All in all, the service experience was decent. We got our food and refills. Food was overpriced and server was too busy to make it a personal experience. Nevertheless, the show was great! I've always liked Rob Schneider in his movies and I've never watched him live before. He has a BEAUTIFUL VOICE and reminded me a lot of Elvis Presley's tone. I wanted to try to do something fun now that I live here in Hawaii. I'm sure there's plenty of opportunities to meet amazing people. I just need to know where to look for these experiences. I would come back to the Blue Note again to enjoy a nice close up performance. I'll be extra prepared next time and go in line 2 hours early for a better experience finding seats like I did the second time around. I wouldn't be interested sitting in a communal table area so the booth experience was actually not bad at all. Even sitting at the bar I'm sure isn't bad since you're facing the stage directly. If you're wanting to be closer to the artist, the tables are literally right in front of the stage. I think that's pretty cool. Very torn about reviewing this place as I've been coming here for years and years for the entertainment from Tumua to Josh Tatofi to The Green to Rob Schneider. The entertainment is always great and the ambiance and vibes are always good. So that would get 5 stars But this last time I went, the food/drinks were just awful and the service has always been on the slow side. Maybe understaffed or something. Also to note, my and my other half were sitting at the two top right next to the sound/lighting booth and the fire suppression sprinkler above was dripping on us where we scooted the table towards the other table to get away from it. Back to the food/drinks, the prices are pretty high for the sad quality of food. Mixed drinks were mediocre at best. Better off just ordering beers. Ordered the poke, Caesar salad, and prime rib. Prime rib was pretty good, salad was ok, but the poke was the absolute worst poke I've ever had. Zero flavor or taste. The taro chips that it came with was much better. I really dont get how the food can be so bad when dukes and hula grill is right next door. As for the service, again, on the slow side. And it is clearly noticeable their waiters do not work as a team. They only care and tend to their own tables. Our table when needed water refills were always bypassed by other waiters carrying the pitchers. And did I mention they are slow on drinks and food? We did not purchase food but it was $20 minimum per person! So you can order drinks or water for the charge. It was pretty decent size inside but gets packed and tight! The restrooms are also very small and only 2 stalls, which should be bigger since there the closest to the shoe entrance and exit! I went to the Blue Note for the first time ever to see one of my favorite comics. First, the lines to get in were not organized at all. There was no signage or ropes to help guide ticket holders. Second, the waiting area (it was the second level of a Hilton hotel) was extremely warm. It was not a good situation for elderly or folks with health issues. When we finally got in, we joined our friends at a booth. The bench was so worn that there was barely any cushioning. It was lumpy and hard and definitely not comfortable to sit in for the entire show. And because we sank down into the old, lumpy bench, it was hard to see the stage with the audience in chairs in front of us. At one point, I even asked my group if we should ask a server to move us to a table, but my group was not as motivated as I was (I was also the shortest one). One of my friends who have been to the venue a number of times vouched for the food, but my husband and I had just come from dinner so we didn't try any food. Another disappointing food experience. Man, we always come here for the entertainment but the food is just so bad for the price. I had the steak and it was so dry and overcooked and def didn't feel like prime. But, the service was so bad as well that no one came to check on us even though I waited as I wanted to send it back. After waiting a good while I just ended up eating it because I realized that the show would be over before I got the right steak back. Fantastic small venue. Don't bother buying the expensive tickets on the floor since people will come down and dance in that area anyway-yup, right at your table. Heavy pours on alcohol. Skip the food-terrible. But a great place. read more

We went to see Jake Shimabakuro on 4/7/2025. I took my family and was excited to share Jake's music with them as I have been a fan. The doors opened an hour and a half prior to the show, and to ensure good seats, you need to get there prior to when the doors open as a line forms. We ended up with a good booth seating, which was nice as the "premium" seats in the center are just packed in there and you're sitting sideways to the show. With an hour and a half to pass, you kind of need to order dinner. We did, and it was about the MOST AWFUL food I've had in a long time. On top of that, it was about $50/plate with $20 drinks. We had to ask for salt and pepper due to the lacking flavor. I had coconut rice with mine that was hard, crunchy, and tasteless. My daughter's Caesar Salad had almost no Caesar dressing and dry chicken. The drinks were also pretty "mis" flavored. My two kids had mocktails that were awful. One was spicy with too much ginger and the other completely tart with no balance of sweetness. Overall, a completely disappointing start to the evening. Overall, the dinner was over $317 for our family of 4, and I'd have enjoyed an ABC store Musubi way more. Over $600 for the whole evening with the poor food quality left me really feeling disappointed I had attended. They have a $20 minimum order per person, I recommend hitting that minimum if you go and eat elsewhere before or after. read more

We went to Blue Note Hawaii for a night of comedy featuring Roy Wood Jr., and it was absolutely amazing! Two local comedians opened the show and had us laughing right from the start. They brought great energy and hilarious local flavor that really set the tone for the night. Roy Wood Jr. was phenomenal--sharp, smart, and incredibly funny. His delivery was effortless, and he had the whole room cracking up non-stop. It was honestly one of the best live comedy shows we've ever attended. We only ordered drinks, and the service was great--quick, friendly, and everything came out just right. The venue itself has a cool, intimate vibe with good acoustics and sightlines from pretty much anywhere you sit. Highly recommend catching a show at Blue Note Hawaii if you get the chance. read more
