I'm obsessed with Blue Barn! This has been the greatest addition to the Town Center and to Corte Madera in general. You literally can't go wrong... the sandwiches are all amazing, and the salads are fresh and large and delicious. The spicy tuna salad will forever be my favorite! It's a pricey salad, but you get a giant hunk of spicy tuna and a lot of avocado along with everything else that makes it delicious. The build your own salad is always a great option as well. Pro tip: ordering for pickup is a pro move here if you don't want to worry about seating. Take it outside to the outdoor common tables or take home to the comfort of your living room couch! read more

My friend and I were starving after taking some photos and exploring Dominican University. We wanted to head out towards SF so he told me this was the best sandwich place on the way! This is such a cute, hipster place haha. It's on the small side and a little loud, but I wouldn't mind eating inside next time. They already cut it in half for you and the ooey gooey goodness was heaven. Stopped in here on a warm autumn day to have a quick bite to eat during a shopping trip to Corte Madera Village. This is not my first visit, it is probably my third, and each time I order something different. I have always found the food to be fresh and tasty with great attention to detail. Homemade soups, the freshest salads (they are huge!) and fantastic sandwiches. They have indoor and outdoor seating. You walk up, order and pay and put a number on your table. If you're in the mood for a great salad and have some coins to spend, this is the place for you. This place offers a variety of salads (signature and also "create-your-own"), burgers and sandwiches. I decided to be healthy and create my own salad (a whopping $17 bucks, I might add). Salad was probably pure perfection. The only reason this place gets 4 stars is that I find it a bit expensive ($6 for salmon add-in to my salad, which was cooked to perfection, might I add). I wanted to also get a side of fries, but my common sense kicked in and said it wasn't worth it). Their salads are definitely big (you can probably share it or take half home). Fantastic establishment. During the lunch hour in a Saturday, the inside was packed, but we were able to find a seat outside immediately. You order at the counter, and they bring the food out to you, and the employees in both instances were friendly and polite. I had the Barn BLT, which is a freshly made BLT with pesto and GOAT cheese. It was an incredible sandwich, and combined with chips (not included with sandwich) made for a great lunch. Overall rating for this location seems low, based on my experience. Well THAT was a yummy grilled cheese. The Blue Barn's located in a swanky outdoor mall and is surrounded by a ton of other enticing restaurants, but don't be swayed by the (admittedly delicious smelling) Pig in a Pickle. You should go to The Blue Barn. I ordered The Sheep , which is a grilled cheese oozing with manchego cheese (comes from a sheep, duh) on country bread with sopresatta (that's like fancy big pepperonis) and Mission fig jam - a perfect mix of sweet and savory. I also got a side of perfectly thin French fries and a third-party kombucha to drink. My coworker had The Big Tuna and raved about it as well. It's about $17/person, which is a couple dollars past great pricing, but cmon, you're eating at a swanky mall. My meal was filling enough to have half for dinner later, so it comes out in the wash. (One star is docked for wait time. It was 12:45 on a weekday, and took 25 minutes to get our food.) If it doesn't look too busy, I highly recommend if you're in the area! I love Blue Barn salads they are delicious and I don't mind spending $17.00 in a salad. I called in my order the guy who helped me out was very nice. They prepared my salad right but as I was mixing up my salad I noticed the greens (baby kale) was spoiled with dark spots (see images). I called and yes they are giving me credit which is very nice of them and I hate to write bad reviews I never do it but I am worried about people getting sick as I am reading how dangerous it is due to bacterial food borne illness on spoiled produce and I think the employees who prep missed this & people's health is no joke. read more

Love that this is all organic and fresh! Great spot for a quick and yummy salad and I have gone back many times and always enjoyed my meal. The atmosphere is nice and service is friendly. The salad sizes are large enough for two people! Although I love the salads and have enjoyed sandwiches I ordered, I would not recommend adding chicken to a salad. I have put chicken on my salad twice and regretted it immediately both times. The chicken came and looked barely cooked. Love Blue Barn Salads! Lets be real they are expensive ($20-$30), but worth every penny. Fresh, organic, and large portions. You could really share one of their salads for two people, or two meals. Lately been enjoying the Winter, Kale Caesar, and Detox Salads. I like loaded crunchy salads so often add additional items to the salads like celery, beets, rooster chicken, and avocado. All these additions is part of the reason why my salads get so expensive. If you just order off the menu you will spend much less. Each salad comes with a nice piece of rosemary bread. It is nice to have a little piece of fresh bread with your salad. I do a lot of pick up, so I call ahead then the salad is ready when I arrive. Super convenient when you are on your way home from a long day. Overall the service here is great. Everyone is friendly and accommodating. Blue Barn is one of the freshest restaurants in town. If you're looking for a delicious lunch that won't make you feel unhealthy, this is your place. The salads and sandwiches are amazing and even better if you split each with a friend (so you can try both). They have a regular menu and seasonal specials that really showcase their use of seasonal and fresh ingredients. While the food is great and trendy order and sit vibe is fun, for the price it really should be waited service. The menu is really expensive and the portions could be bigger. Personally, I am not a huge fan of sharing a communal table with strangers either. However, the environment is still great and Marin County needs a lot more places like this. Its the perfect place for lunch with the girls. Order the Buddha sandwich and beet salad. You won't regret it. read more

My 19-year old son has been a killjoy all summer. He wants, he wants, he wants but everything he wants is something he wants for me to purchase for him. After hours spent looking at used vehicles (for him, natch) we were hungry. Finally, I had the opportunity to buy him something I actually felt like purchasing: lunch. Looks-wise, Blue Barn Gourmet has a lot in common with LA/OC's Mendocino Farms which I recently went to and loved. They share a busy looking menu, a very "now" feeling, casually hip interior, and a menu comprised almost entirely of salads and sandwiches. Mendocino Farms, in my opinion, pulls off the concept far more successfully, with better hiring, better food, and better space but they've not yet expanded to NorCal so Blue Barn Gourmet will have to do. I settled on the Cobber ($14), a fairly classic Cobb Salad. After days of dining out in SoCal with my mom she once asked if I ever ate anything besides Cobb Salad. It could be said that I know a good Cobb when it hits me (the best ever is at Crave in Santa Ana). This one was good, not fab, and benefited from seconds of the house made "ranch" dressing. The entitled 19-year old (a vegetarian with an ever-dwindling list of foods he'll deign to consume) selected the Buddha ($9.75), a sandwich with goat cheese, eggplant, summer squash, Roma tomato, pickled onion, watercress & roasted red pepper hummus on country levain. It was not a jam-packed sandwich and, after taking a few bites he arose to re-look at the menu board to see what was on this sandwich he'd ordered then returned, announcing "I always like to order stuff that I'm not sure I'll like" as he picked out some eggplant ("not roasted") that he found less than pleasing. Blue Barn Gourmet is drafty inside, owing to opening doors at both ends of the place. The draftiness (and my enjoyment) weren't helped by someone who decided to clean the glass windows with spray cleaner while I ate close by. The food was good and the salad was good enough to merit a return visit which I'm certain will happen. Places that make big salads full of delicious ingredients are high on my hit list and this place fills that space. When I return I'll likely re-up on the Cobber but I don't think my son would say the same for the Buddha. Order accordingly. P.S. I did not (yet) purchase a car for him. read more

A Blue Barn Gourmet that's actually located inside a building designed like a Barn? Yes please! Off the bat, one of the best things about this place is the arcitecture. It's built to look exactly like a barn, and the interior decor is just awesome. Props to the people who did that. The food isn't too shabby either. Delicious sandwiches for a premium price, but that's just how it is. You're paying for the "Blue Barn" brand name, but at least what you're getting in return is good. I've had my fair share of sandwiches here in the last few years, and I highly enjoyed them all. On my recent visit, I ordered "The Clubber", which comes with turkey, lettuce, bacon, tomatoes and thier special bacon/jalepeno sauce (It's great!). All in all, it was satisfying, refreshing and filling and made for a great lunch. You really can never go wrong going here, as long as you're ok with the price you pay. I may be weird (OK, I know I am), but there is something so satisfying about filling out a create-your-own salad card, and this place has the most delicious options! I always order it to go because I can never finish the whole thing in one sitting, which is great because it comes in a large Chinese takeout-style box with a handle, so bring leftovers to work the next day is easy. I wish they had gluten free bread, because I have celiac and their sandwiches look incredible. Come on, Blue Barn, it's Marin! Get on the GF bandwagon!! This is the perfect option for a shopping break (hint: they have wine, too) or a takeout option after running errands. My mom and I got the Spicy Ahi Tuna salad here, and honestly I wish I went to Trader Joes and got a pre-made one instead. We just expected so much more for $14- when you imagine "Ahi Tuna" you think of slices or cubes of tuna, not a scoop of mashed fish. It was supposed to include snow peas and scallions which at first we thought were missing from the salad, but after talking to the manager we realized we were supposed to bring a magnify glass to see them. I couldn't taste them either. For a gourmet salad I wanted texture and crunch. The only crunch came from the crispy soba noodles. The toppings that were apparent in the salad were TOO apparent- the avocado and tuna were so heavy that they fell to the bottom of the salad and at the end I was eating forkfuls of avocado and mashed fish. Blue Barn represents, in my mind, everything that is wrong with Marin. It is not to say that the food here is "bad", necessarily. I don't think that. But to call it anything beyond basic, overpriced, and unnecessary would be a dishonest assessment. The menu is what you would expect from a deli-style joint. Soups, salads, sandwiches. There is no "go-to", no signature offering, that I can figure out. It's just basically The Nugget. But imagine if sandwiches and salads at The Nugget cost like... $15. And I am not kidding. If I walk out of this place having paid $15 for something, I consider it a steal. On top of the price, the quality simply isn't there. It's fresh, fine. But most places not sporting a 'Subway' sign are. That simply isn't enough to justify the prices. Everything here lacks creativity. It's stuff your aunt makes when you have family reunions in the park. It's uninspiring, borderline bland, and way too expensive. To top it all off, the portions aren't what anyone would mistake for generous. There are better places to spend your money. This will do if you're in the area and jonesin' for a sandwich. Sadly today, I ordered the tostada salad (as I usually do) and it was missing a bunch of ingredients like the black beans . . Uhm that's the protein and these aren't cheap salads. I also only got romaine when it's supposed to also have the chicory mix. Plus, the wrong dressing and I've forgotten the other toppings missing. I should have said something but didn't have time. This was a bummer. So I hope we get over it. Significant items missing definitely made it an empty salad and I was hungry far too soon. I can't say I was amazed by the taste of anything I had, I got a salad and added on a few toppings but the dressing was flavorless and my cup of soup was good but nothing astonishing. Today we ordered the burrata and the Provo sandy. Served up warm and with the most delicious toasted bread. We also ordered a side of fries. I usually like to praise publicly, and critique privately, but as their website has no corporate email or corp phone number as of a few days ago, here I am. We have been eating at and getting take-out from Blue Barn in Corte Madera for years, but we're done with them, at least for now. Long before Covid, we regularly got take-out from them, and while we love their food - mostly 4-5 stars - BB is reliably unreliable regarding take-out order accuracy. A few of these mistakes are from special requests, but most mistakes are with their normal offerings made incorrectly. For instance, they have their version of a Waldorf salad. We all know the original one has a lot of apples. What did they leave off of the salad last week? Apples. Not a single one. The time before that, the pecans were completely missing, as well as the bread that comes with all salads - it was missing from both our salads (good bread). Another time, wine was missing. I called and got a credit for it (a friendly person helped me), but I was really looking forward to that. Getting a glass of wine, take-out, is SO cool. (The container leaks though - be careful.) These are just a few examples, but we've experienced ongoing errors. Finally, last week I may have accidentally ordered two of one type of salad, and then another salad we wanted as well. I was using their online order form (via my laptop), and didn't see a salad in my cart when it should have been there, so I clicked on it again. I guess I ended up with two of that one, plus another salad we wanted. So, when my husband picked up our order, he saw the extra salad and told the woman who gave it to him (before he called me to check), that we'd just ordered two salads total. She quickly told him NO, that's what we ordered, and if we had trouble ordering online, maybe we should call in instead in the future. Then she turned her back to him and walked away, eliminating the possibility of any future conversation with him. He called after her wanting clarification, but she'd gone on to help someone else, ignoring him. This could have been my error and not a website order form issue (but that's also possible, but I'll take the blame), but it was one of their most common salads, with no alterations, and not touched by, opened, (nor breathed on) by us, so it could have easily been given to someone else, but no, my sweet hubby was flat out dismissed and basically told, "Tough." Good customer service means being gracious and helpful, no matter what the situation, or how the error came about. This girl didn't get that. Any restaurant can easily find a balance and make everyone happy. She made no such attempt and apparently hasn't been trained to do anything more than the bare minimum. Even a kind person who's not specifically trained to be helpful would hopefully know HOW to be helpful and WANT to help, but she clearly didn't want to - but I digress. (FWIW, we're firmly settled into Covid precautions now, so that it's not an excuse for poor customer service anymore. Plus, take-out has always been a big part of Blue Barn's business.) Bottom line, when made as described on their menu, their food is really good. But, when we've experienced years of mistakes and now unresponsive customer service, it's just not worth the drive, nor the money. Finally, Blue Barn, if you had a corporate email or contact form on your website, this would have been a private email instead of a public review.
