There was a small line, but the drinks came out quickly. I ordered the VTMatcha, and it was strong, flavorful, and well-balanced. The bold, slightly bitter hickory Vietnamese coffee paired really well with the smooth sweet matcha. Overall I really enjoyed it and would love to come back to try more of their drinks! read more

I really should be more generous with positive reviews, but negative experiences like today's at BLK Dot are often more motivating.... I'm lying awake in bed at 3 am because the DECAF drink I ordered 9 am was obviously not decaf. If insomnia were the only issue, I wouldn't be so peeved. The problem is that caffeine in coffee excites the sciatic nerve pinched by the herniated disc in my back. The resulting muscle tics and spasms are excruciating, so when I finally fall asleep... I'm jolted awake and have to hop around cursing in the dark as I try to relax the bunched up muscles in my leg. I figured out too late why I was sweating like a pig and stuttering like a dope in my business meeting earlier-- the result of forgoing strong caffeine for years and then being dosed to the max. All I'm saying is, make the drink right. If the label says decaf, take it as seriously as other food allergies. The person who orders decaf obviously did so for a reason. I know BLK Dot specializes in Vietnamese coffee, which is ridiculously caffeinated. This is the reason I repeat "DECAF" to the cashier and stress that it's important. Regardless, this is not the first time my drink has effectively poisoned me. If BLK Dot offered a "message the business" option, I would have contacted management with a request they caution employees. But, because that's not an option... I'm griping publicly in the wee hours. BLK Dot I love your flavors, but when your careless employees end up torturing me, I'm out. read more

I've been to Blk Dot Coffee before and usually enjoy their coffee, but today was honestly a really disappointing experience. I ordered through the kiosk because there were people waiting at the register. After about 10 minutes, I noticed multiple customers who ordered after me already receiving their drinks, so I asked the workers if my order had gone through. They apologized and said the kiosk order never printed, and that they would make it ASAP. Unfortunately, even after bringing it up, I continued waiting while other customers' drinks were being made, including remaking a drink for someone who had just walked in. By the time I got my refund sorted out, the whole situation took around 30 minutes total. I understand mistakes happen, and I'm not trying to be a Karen, but I was disappointed that there didn't seem to be any urgency after realizing I had already been waiting so long. A little more attentiveness and customer care would have gone a long way. read more

I decided to finally give Blk Dot coffee a try after hearing many good reviews about it. Inside the coffee shop is actually pretty small with a few seating options located outside. Luckily when i went there was no line and the cashier and barista were both very friendly. Since it was my first time i was a bit overwhelmed and not sure what to order because they had a variety of different options including Vietnamese coffee, matchas, and classic coffee drinks such as lattes as well. This time i decided to go with their Spanish latte. Overall, the quality of coffee tasted really good and i enjoyed the latte overall. I will say there wasn't anything special or unique and was a little bland flavor wise but it was decent latte. I would like to return to try one of their more unique flavors like a matcha lemonade i saw. Overall i think it's a good spot for a coffee, but it is not my favorite coffee spot in Irvine. read more

Tried Blk Dot Coffee for the first time today. I got the Peach Lychee black tea and enjoyed it. I did ask for it without chia and it was still added, but I still liked it regardless. I had heard great things about the Yuzu Mango Matcha Latte and wanted to try it for myself. I was pleasantly surprised by the matcha flavor. While it is culinary grade rather than ceremonial, it still had a bright green color, and the taste came through nicely, with just a slight astringency. Today was my first time trying Blk Dot and we ended up parking at the Target in Irvine Spectrum and walked over. I haven't been to this side of Irvine Spectrum before but parking was surprisingly easy. This coffee shop was SO busy at 3pm on New Year's Day. The line moved quickly and service was friendly. Drinks came out very shortly after we ordered. I had the Vanilla Maplenut Latte; this drink is really subtle and didn't have a strong flavor at all. I was expecting it to be a little sweeter but I don't think it's something I'd order again. The VTMatcha is a matcha with vietnamese coffee on the bottom. This drink is very unique and has a bold flavor that surprisingly works well together. My boyfriend chose this drink based on how pretty it looked but ended up really enjoying it. There is some outdoor seating available to hang out and enjoy your coffee, but it is not necessarily a location I'd recommend staying at for extended periods of time, simply because of how long the line gets and how crowded it can be. read more

I had a pretty frustrating experience here. They start closing the patio area at 9pm even though the store closes at 10pm, which feels way too early and unnecessary--especially when there were still three employees working. What really bothered me was being interrupted mid-order at the self-service kiosk so they could block it off with chairs. I was literally in the middle of placing my order and had to stop and move because they decided to shut things down early. If your posted hours say you're open until 10, customers should be able to use the space and order without being rushed or pushed out early. This just felt inconvenient and poorly handled. read more

Great coffee! We came here three times during our vacation. Service is as expected. Not much of a social hangout coffee shop, better for take out. My only notes would be that there is a lot of ice in the iced coffees, more than you typically get other places, and it makes the amount of coffee you get feel kind of like a rip off. Also, the amount of coffee you get isn't consistent. Some times it is pretty full, and other times the cup is not full. For example, we got large coffees on our third visit since the amount of ice in the regulars made it feel like we were barely getting any coffee, but the cups weren't full. As if they had accidentally made regulars and then dumped it into a large cup and just added more ice. Overall, the coffee is so good that we will return, but either ask for light ice or get a bigger size to avoid disappointment. read more

The baristas were very friendly, but we did go on a Sunday around 3 PM so it was extremely busy. They have the option of ordering online which would be ready in 15-20 minutes but we decided to just order in line. It was pretty crowded so it's not a sit down type of ambiance. If waiting inside, would recommend some crowd guidance since it was hard to stand and navigate to get to your drink. The Uji Matcha was tasty and the Matcha flavor was strong and creamy. And of course their other items on the menu are an absolute delight, just about anything that says vtm is amazing, or be bold and get some salted cream foam atop a latte. I've heard of Blk Dot several times before and I've been dying to try this place. Luckily when I came there was no line and 0 wait. I asked the cashier what to get and if they recommended their matcha drinks over their iced teas and she highly recommended the matcha and said it was popular so I got their Matcha Einspanner (my usual order if a cafe has it). Unfortunately the drink was disappointing. The matcha taste is lacking and the drink tasted like sweetened milk. I can barely taste the actual matcha which is surprising because based on the color it looked like the matcha taste would be strong enough. I wish there was more matcha in the drink because I think it could've been a great drink. I would rate this drink 3/10.
