Blue Hummingbird Roastery is off the beaten path. I don't think this is somewhere I would stumble upon if I wasn't intentionally driving to it. It seems like the share a parking lot with an office complex. There is some seatings inside their quaint coffee shop, and a few more in the patio area. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered the BHB Einspanner ($7.50) and I really enjoyed my drink. It was perfectly balanced between the coffee and the cream layer on top. As someone who opted to stay and enjoy my coffee in the shop I find the space really tight. A little mixed feelings because I like the coffee enough to come back for a take out situation, but they're so out of the way they would never be on my way anywhere. Mixed feelings. I am definitely rounding up this review because I really admire the owner's passion during my time there. He was experimenting on flavors with staff and passionate to perfect the ratio. We had a perfect brew from the first attempt and trust me when I say this, we have tried so many times before. Our cupboards were full of various gadgets that promised a consistent cold brew and failed to deliver. But after our first batch, we donated them all! Hear me out, the "Toddy" equipment has no kitchen counter esthetics and the first up front cost seemed high for something with no chrome, metal or electronics at all. At the time I bought my "Toddy", there was a deal off the beans if bought at the same time. What I love about Blue Hummingbird is that everything you need, they sell there. The "Toddy" is the same brewing method they use in the roastery but the home version is on a much smaller scale. The freshly roasted beans on the shelves for sale are clearly marked to let you know if they work well for cold brew. Anyone behind the counter will tell you which blend they use in-house for their cold brew so you can copy it at home. They were so sweet to even write the grind number on the bottom of my bag so I'd remember when I needed more. The cold brew you make is a concentrate and they will give you a recommendation on what ratio of water to add so we had fun finding just the right strength. Best part of the entire experience is now when we travel and visit local coffee roasters, we buy beans with confidence knowing when we get home we will be able to brew a fantastic cold brew and it's all thanks to Blue Hummingbird Roastery in Irvine! read more

One thing to note is that both drinks came cold but without any ice. While I liked that the cups weren't filled with ice, which usually means less drink, however, it would've been nice to have at least a little ice to keep them cold, especially since we had a 30-minute drive to our next stop. I got the nutelle hojicha latte with almond milk, breakfast burrito and a steak quinoa salad. The latte was very light and had a roasted taste to it. I didnt taste much nutelle though. I wish there was more distinct flavor other than the hojicha. The breakfast burrito has bacon, eggs, cheese and potatoes. My husband wasnt a fan of the burrito because it was pretty plain. It has been over a year since I've been back to Blue Hummingbird Roastery, and I am happy to report that their lattes are still strong and delicious. I like that I can taste varying coffee notes, which makes their lattes more complex compared to the average coffee shops. They get busy on the weekends, but the line moves quickly. The prices of their drinks are average. Some of the flavored ones are pricey, but if you get a plain latte, it's not bad compared to other fancy coffee spots. There's plenty of parking and outdoor seating. The pastries are from Chaupain, and they make really good croissants. I never buy the ice cream or any items besides coffee and coffee beans here, so I can't speak to those. The service is always friendly, and overall, it's a great place to grab a nice latte if you're in the area. read more

I was looking for a new place to try and when I looked at the menu, the Spanish Dark Hojicha Latte seemed like the perfect treat. The vanilla flavor with the hojicha was the perfect blend of sweet with that toasty tea flavor. I really enjoyed it! But I had to write a review to commend the service. I placed an order for the family and someone has requested a hot drink and it wasn't til after we picked it up that they made it wrong as a cold drink. The cold drink label even said "HOT" on it. I DM'd them on Instagram to explain what happened with a picture of the wrongly made drink and they were kind enough to refund me the drink plus add points to my account to make it right. The attendant was helpful and did describe the coffee choices. I ordered an iced Americano on ice. The coffee was good. The place is very clean and orderly. There are not a lot seats and places to sit and relax, and that is the main reason for the three stars. I took the ground coffee home and found it was good, but lacked the flavor is some other brands. I'm sure if I worked in the area, it would be a favorite place to hang out and get coffee. read more

On Sunday morning, I went to near Lake Forest area for some business and visited Blue Hummingbird Coffee Roastery and Tasting Room. I usually go to CUP by Blue Hummingbird Coffee next to Irvine Novel Park near my house to drink coffee, but this was my first time here. This cafe is located in the Tripointe Centre business complex, and I was surprised that there were many customers even on Sunday morning. I think it's because Blue Hummingbird Coffee is popular among coffee lovers in this area. I usually drink Iced Americano, but I tried the Blue Hummingbird Cafe Latte this time, the signature coffee here, as an iced drink. The milk in the cup had a light blue color and was very attractive. The Cafe Latte tasted really sweet and delicious, but honestly, it was too sweet for me. But people who like sweet coffee will really like it. read more

I've tried a few drinks at hummingbird but I personally do not recommend this place for hojicha or matcha. I do however recommend their coffee. The blue hummingbird match latte looked beautiful but did not taste as good as it looked. I felt the matcha and pandan flavor was a bit weak. I also got the black sugar hojicha hot and it just tasted like milk with a hint of hojicha. My bf got the spanish dark latte and throughly enjoyed it. I was disappointed in this place and the overall quality of coffee and staff. First they stop doing drip coffee and it was before noon so I could only do an Americano. Secondly if you want creamer for your coffee they only have little packets of cream, no really they gave me LandO'Lakes packet for creamer. The guy helping me was just rude and seemed annoyed that I would question no drip coffee at a coffee establishment and shocked that for creamer he would hand me packets. I have been consistently coming here for many many months now, and it's honestly one of my favorite coffees in the area. This specific location roasts the coffee on-premise every couple days, and those smells will take you somewhere amazing early morning. They have rotating seasonal menu where they swap out some drinks, and for all that I've tried they have all been pretty good (I hope they bring back the cardamom... mmmm). Their signature Blue Hummingbird is always on the menu, and it's awesome. Inside the store is decent size, it only feels small during very busy hours (but let's be honest, when has a good coffee shop not felt cramped during rush hours ). I have never gone and not been able to find a seat. Outside is nice as well. Nothing special, but always very clean and spacious. The pastries were always great. They recently switched providers, and I have yet to try these new ones. But they look good, if looks mean anything to you. Finally, there is one thing that stands above all- the staff.
