I've been to this particular Blk Dot Coffee location a few times in the past few years and despite the busy rush they have throughout the day, the service is top notch. See a long line? Don't worry, it'll go by quick and your drink will always come out in an orderly fashion. I've had their hot Spanish Latte which was great but their hot VTM was a little underwhelming. It's an interesting concept here for them selling hot Vietnamese coffee selections. I recommend getting it iced because it's really weak when ordered hot. Nonetheless, I recommend this location if you're at the Spectrum. read more

Very nice little coffee shop, I honestly came for the smell from the inside and I try the mango-matcha cause it was hot, it really taste a little too sweet for me but i bet the coffee was amazing, it smelled good and people were getting more coffee than any other drink. They try their beat to prepare everything fast but there is so many orders that the staff seem very busy, the place is pretty and they have just outdoors sitting which I thought was a great idea so people don't get disturbed by the the ones ordering or the ones who are waiting. read more

I love Black Dot Coffee! I go to the Irvine spectrum one and Newport coast one often. The picture is from their Newport coast location. But I get basically the same drinks at all locations, either a very berry matcha with strawberry cold foam or a yuzu mango matcha with regular cold foam. I'm obsessed. It's the best, so creamy and not too sweet. I am definitely a matcha lover, I even have a dog named matcha. Service is excellent. Ambiance at spectrum doesn't have seating inside for working or studying so it's more of a grab and go, but at Newport coast it's a perfect place to sit down and work. We tried the Vietnamese coffees and it came out really quick! It seemed that it was already premade and they just poured that into a cup with ice and called my name. Lychee Peach Black Tea tasted diluted or watered down, with the lychee jelly imparting the most flavor. I wouldn't come back here on the weekend. Such a cute coffee shop. As soon as you walk in you get the feel of a modern coffee shop. What surprised me was they had a version of Vietnamese coffee here. A regular was $6 which is not too pricey! A coffee shop that specializes in Vietnamese coffee? Sign me up! We love our coffee strong and sweet, and so this spot has become a regular weekly visit for us. We usually get: Iced VTM - Perfect. No notes. They usually pre-make this too, so it comes out really quick. VTM Matcha - mixing matcha with coffee is pretty rare, but it's such a good combo. I will say that the matcha flavor is definitely at the forefront here, but you can still feel that caffeine kick from the coffee. And sometimes we get the breakfast sausage bowl. This is great but incredibly filling. Easily can feed 2 people. Note that they make this from scratch, so it will take some time. But the reward is you get good quality food as opposed to reheated items from the mainstay brands. Everything is made well too: potatoes, egg frittata, etc. My only ask is to try and introduce other food items! It may look like they have a wide menu, but it's mostly the same 5 or so ingredients packaged in a different way. read more

They also have a light version which is espresso base and dairy free creamer instead of condensed milk and a black version with no creamer but original base. They have a small patio outside and plenty of other options too. They do put quite a lot of ice and state on the menu that if you ask no ice it'll be the same amount but flavor was good. This was my second time coming to Blk Dot and I had a much better experience. First time around I had the matcha latte as is, to see what they were about, it wasn't bad. I would say it is more on the grassy side and I would give it a 5.5/10. However, friends of mine brought me back to try the Iced Vanilla Chai Latte and the Spanish latte (both sub with almond milk). The chai latte was an 8/10 and the Spanish I gave a 8.5/10. The chai latte is definitely more on the sweeter side if that is what you like and it reminded me of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal milk. The Spanish latte has a cinnamon mix with a stronger coffee finish. I really liked both. The cashier helping us was sweet and straightforward and the location had a few seating options. There are outlets available for studying and is more of a quiet space. The cafe was very clean and nicely decorated and had a lot of tasty looking pastries and breakfast options as well. Overall a nice calm cafe for studying and has pretty good drinks. read more

We order two drinks at 5:25pm on a Tuesday using the kiosk. We made it clear that we order at the kiosk to see the lines of drinks. No line. There are three people working the shift, just gossiping not looking if they had orders. Please tell me why this took HALF AN HOUR IN A SLOW DAY. At first we thought " oh maybe one of their machines weren't working or idk maybe they don't know how to make the matcha" okay whatever but at least make yourselves look busy. Now it is 5:50pm please tell me again why three people who made online orders have their drinks already made while we wait now reaching half an hour, on a slow day, while they are gossiping/chatting without keeping an eye on the orders or be courteous enough to let us know that it's going to take some time. Now we are annoyed. My fiance went to ask around the 30 min mark for our drinks. One of the guys mentioned to him there was no kiosk order. He didn't bother to check the system while the most distracted out of the three check the system and did confirm that we did made an order???? I'm baffled, why gaslight my fiance saying that "there was no kiosk order" without even CHECKING. Uhm okay? So you're telling we where waiting for half an hour and they didn't even bother to check their kiosk orders?? I guess their gossip was THAT JUICY. It took them, I kid you not, LESS than a minute to make the drink. No apologies at all. I feel bad that my fiance tip for this disservice. I used to work on the food industry (prep, bus, expo, dog, boh) even in slow days, when I know my job consist of service/tip I check up on my customers to see if I missed anything. We were surprised how busy it was on Memorial Day the line was outside but then again which place to grab a drink or bite isn't busy at the Irvine spectrum? I ordered the iced Spanish latte which is a house-special latte sweetened with a blend of their house condensed milk and cinnamon. I also had their iced VTM tiger and that was pretty delicious! It has their signature VTM™ Coffee infused with milk, brown sugar drizzle, and brown sugar jelly. The cup was tipped over so the barista never saw it until I went up to him and told him I was waiting on one more drink & he found it and said "I got you." So Thank you to that barista for making my drink since I'd been waiting for a while. I got my first drink pretty fast so the cup must have fallen over by accident. It was a full day of activities in the OC with some friends. One of our last stops was at the Irvine Spectrum. But first, we needed some coffee. My friend was excited to introduce me to one of her favorite Vietnamese coffee spots, but when we went, there was a 25 minute wait so we decided to do our round and chose to come back later when there was less traffic. When we finally came back, there wasn't a long wait, and we finally got some energy boost from these drinks. She got the matcha latte and I got the cold brew with sea salt cold foam. Yelp says this location is temporarily closed until next year, but this cafe was surprisingly opened when I passed by it! So somewhat confused about the notice, but happy that they're opened! Very limited outside seating (no inside seating). There is free wifi available! Employees were friendly and provided fast service. The espresso was very good and strong, but the drink was pretty sweet from the caramel. I would ask for less syrup if you prefer less sweeter drinks! My husband and I always stop at the Irvine Spectrum on our way down to San Diego, and Blk Dot is one of our favorite coffee spots for a pick-me-up. We recently went last week and it was just as good as we remember. We got my usual half sweet lychee peach black tea, an iced LVTM, and an iced mint cold brew with sweet foam on top. Absolutely delicious!! We made small talk with one of the baristas, and it was nice. Our drinks came out quickly, so no complaints about service whatsoever. This is the first time I have ordered from this location as I live closer to the Laguna Beach store (Laguna was out of an item I wanted). The Laguna Beach store is always wonderful & efficient so I had high hopes for this store. I ordered a Fiesta bowl & a spanish latte. On doordash, this store does not allow special requests which is fairly common so I called the store to make my adjustments. The phone rang for 2 minutes and I decided to wait a few minutes to call back in case they were busy. Again, nothing. I called a third time and finally someone picked up and when I asked her for no sour cream/no spicy mayo, I was met with "well there's special request options in the app". I explained to her that I had already tried and didn't think it would be a big deal since I was just removing stuff, not adding. She was more friendly, I guess, after explaining my situation and we hung up the phone. The doordash time on this location was 30-40 minutes which is completely understandable since I live a bit further. I waited 1Hr 15Mins- I was assigned 2+ doordashers. So I guess that's a DoorDash problem, but there was no communication between the store, my dasher, and myself. Finally!! I have a doordasher. Yay!! My order gets delivered and it is 2 coffees...I ordered a bowl and a coffee. I call the store to see if I can just come pickup my bowl and again I am met with 3 minutes of ringing so I give up and just take care of it through Doordash. At least they're helpful. After a few hours of shopping this was our last stop before our drive home. I got a hot peppermint mocha and my husband ordered an americano. He liked his coffee saying it tastes good. No bad aftertaste like many places. My mocha was a bit disappointing. It was lukewarm and that kind of spoiled the mood. I was craving a hot Christmasy drink with peppermint. It was a cold evening and the atmosphere was very Christmasy. They have cute merchandise and lots of drink options. Customer service needs improvement. Overall a nice place to get your coffee from.
