Stumbled upon this place as me and my wife were taking a stroll downtown. First thing Upon arrival there was no one to seat us. As we kind of meandered for a minute until we found a waitress and then were seated. Now onto the food which was horrible to say the least. Our fried cheese planks weren't cooked long enough causing the inside cheese to just be literally one long block of essentially string cheese. 3 guys on a road trip From Florida to Portland OR. We stopped in for lunch expecting nothing more than a cheap lunch. Which we got. What we didn't expect was the quality of food that we received. I have about 20 reviews on Hamburgers alone. The Burger I received today is among the top 5 of all time. The blu cheese fries I had are to kill for..... I had two THICK bloody Mary's that made me want a third. Our server was Awesome! She took the time to show us around, explain the "area" I have done a lot of traveling in my time and I have never bought a T-shirt souvenir before, until today. The two guys I'm on this trip with both reciprocate the quality and taste of their meals along with the fantastic service, they also bought shirts. Stopped by after a friend recommended after having a few beers downtown. This place isn't much to look at on the inside or the outside for that matter, but the food is awesome. Great bar/pub food downtown. However the shrimp and grits will give and seafood spot in mobile or the causeway a run for its money! They are voted one of the best "things to eat before you die." I was on my way back from New Orleans to Florida on Labor day and stopped off in Mobile for dinner. I had a place in mind that I wanted to go but it was closed and I am sure glad it was because I ended up here at the Blind Mule. The food looked good on Yelp so I went in. From the outside it looks like a standard bar and on the inside, it looks like a standard restaurant bar, however the food is far from a standard bar. I'm not sure about the fries on their "chili cheese fries", not that they are bad but I am not sure if they are made in house, but everything one them was great. Especially for Labor Day, the waitress we had was great and you would have never known it was a holiday. I'm pretty sure, or at least hope, I tipped a bit extra that day. They also had a nice looking back patio area, I didn't go out there so don't know too much. read more

I met a friend/business associate here a few weeks ago for lunch, and as usual, was in a tad bit of a hurry. I gave the menu a quick glance and settled on a burger. My go-to for a burger is blue cheese and bacon, so that's what I ordered. The burger had lots of blue cheese on it, which is always a plus. It was made of quality meat and not a processed patty. I enjoyed it, as well as the sweet potato fries I had on the side. My friend had a boudin wrap and said it was very good. He eats there regularly and suggested the place. I was born and raised in Mobile, and it was only recently brought to my attention that The Blind Mule serves food. My group of friends and I were looking for a good place to eat on a Friday night. After being given hour long waits (or longer!) at both Callaghan's and Wintzell's, we got a quick tip from a barman to visit The Blind Mule. Guys... this place is great. I don't understand how I haven't heard about the great menu and awesome atmosphere that this place has after my 21 years of being a Mobilian. Giving off a really relaxed vibe, my friends and I were instantly comfortable in this place, carrying on and being our normal loud selves. The service was great too! I love finding eclectic pubs and eateries, especially since I go to Ireland often. When I see a pub, it has to have its on story. Which is why I high key hate Irish pubs in America, they are all generic and don't know what they wanna be or do. For such a little gastropub that sits on the outskirts of downtown, it has so much life. The local art, the little quirks that make it unique, the music, the courtyard. Everything. Is. Fabulous. The drinks and the food are, of course, a large part, but my god. You need to eat everything at least once. I have tried basically everything, and I don't think there's anything that I don't like. It's all so wonderful! Although I'm just now starting drinking beer there's a lot of domestics, drafts, and ipas, and I'm sure they're great. The cocktails tho, they're fabulous. All in all the place is wonderful and we WILL be coming back. PS: My Mexican wife said the breakfast burrito was probably the most authentic huevos con chorizo burrito from any restaurant in America. My fiancé and I both ordered the biscuit with fried chicken. To be clear, it's about $13-14 for 1 regular sized biscuit and 1 chicken tender with "honey sauce". The biscuit was good, but the menu said "large". It was just regular sized. The single chicken tender was undercooked and the breading fell right off. The honey sauce was just honey, melted butter, and some sort of hot sauce that ended up just tasting like melted butter. If you're looking for actual food I would skip this place. read more

But, friends of ours told us to not to be scared and to get the Shrimp and Grits because it was on a list on al.com (in the year 2012) of "100 dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die" and I have to admit, that SHOULD STILL be on the list. We started with an app of boneless wings. One of the app plates was still dirty with leftover grease but our server brought a clean one right away. My husband opened his silverware packet and the fork had dried food stuck on it. Waited for 10 minutes for the server to reappear to request clean utensils but finally got tired of waiting since the wings were getting cold so we ended up sharing my fork. Hubby ordered the champion burger and it looked great. He said it was very tasty. I ordered the daily special of fried chicken sandwich with jalapeño slaw and "zangy" ranch. It was just ok. The fried chicken was actually 2 large chicken tenders-which is annoying as inevitably one of them slides out of the bun when you take a bite. The "zangy"ranch definitely needed more "zang". I'm not a fan of vinegar based slaw so I'm glad I ordered that on the side. The fries were good and crisp. An accidental find turned into the best decision we made on our trip to Mobile. We had all but landed on Mobile and had a few hours to burn before checking into our home away from home when we searched for "$ bars" in yelp. We found one bar and they happened to be closed and right around the corner was the Blind Mule. With no knowledge of the joint we went in and sat the bar. Without a second of delay we felt like we were regulars with constant conversation with the bartenders and other guests. Sharing laughs, drink recommendations, and other things we should try and do while we were in town. It was so much fun. We learned a lot about Mobile and made a mental itinerary of places we should hit up on our weekend trip. The bartender even told us about local happy hours we should visit on our trip. Beyond the great conversation, prices were extremely reasonable and the decor was inviting and eclectic. It was such a great vibe we were sad to leave once it was time to check into the BnB. Made a reservation here with 6 others today for Sunday brunch and had a great experience. We all started out with either the $5 bloody Mary's (which are awesome) or the $10 AYCD mimosas. I had the shrimp and grits which in my opinion, are the best in downtown Mobile. Others in our group had the chicken and pancakes, the crawfish bennys, and the pork belly griddle. Everyone seemed to be pleased with their choice. If you're coming with a large group, I definitely recommend making a reservation, as the main dining room is not very large. The kitchen itself is small, which makes the wait for food a little longer than usual. If you're not in a rush, it's totally worth it. Every time I've visited Blind Mule, my food has came out hot, fresh, and delicious. I've experienced Blind Mule for lunch and dinner as well, but their brunch is definitely what they do best.
