I've been working in bars and restaurants for over twelve years now, and you get busy on weekends, I understand. But my experience at this bar went from bad to worse.
It started getting less than satisfactory when my girlfriend and I were blatantly ignored by the only server (we shall call her meg) for fifteen minutes after seating ourselves at one of the tables. She helped two more tables that sat down way after us, so I decided that if I got my own menu, she may get the hint and serve us. After the bartender took his time peeling himself away from cleavage, he threw a menu on the bar, spun his little bar key around all badass like and cracked my pabst. (I tipped 50% for nearly the entire night). We waited at the table for another ten minutes or so and were still ignored while other patrons were semi-promptly served, so we decided to join another group (the rest of my band; we played this venue that night). After finally getting a server, we order waffle fries and a side if ranch. They were quickly delivered by a man I will refer to as "neck beard". They were decent, but not worth the 45 minute wait for service. Soon, a friend from our group decided to order fries, and the server sneered and said "can't you just order them from the bar?" and acted very offended that someone ordered more food at 9:30 at night. Sorry to inconvenience you, ma'am.
Before our set, I decided to open a tab at the bar. In my experience, it's quicker and easier during volume. I got a couple of beers and we played, and afterwards I went for one more beer and to close my tab. Here's where the wheels really fell off: I stood at the bar and was skipped over twice by neck beard, who was now washing glasses and half way bar tending. No big deal, it happens, I understand. When he finally gets to me, I order a pabst, a coke and a water, and ask to close my tab. He walks away mid sentence and I'm surprised he heard the entire order. He comes back and sets down a beer, a water and a half pint glass of coke, NONE OF WHICH HAD ICE. I asked if he had heard me request to close my tab, but he barked back with "you need to hold on, dude". So I waited, for ice and my bill, for fifteen minutes while neck beard served shots and beers to more patrons. When I asked again, I told him my name and he came back a few minutes later with someone else's credit card. Rookie mistake, I'm sure it happens to the best bar backs. But instead of finding the right card, he just gives up, and goes back to washing glasses/serving beer/ fist bumping his boys. Finally, an actual bartender came down (who was really cool all night, but unfortunately not on this side of the bar) and I managed to get a scoop of ice in my half pint glass of coke, and he found the right tab and closed it. For the first time in my life, I left no tip. This is saying a lot, because I've tipped some horrible servers in my day ( see Meg), but I was personally offended by neck beard and his selective assistance/lack of common sense, along with his condescending tone when I politely ask if he understood my request. I left immediately after, and will never recommend this bar to anyone, nor will I ever go back.
Oh, and I'm waiting to see if they try to charge a tip on my credit card... read more
