We both had the turkey Reuben sandwiches. Thick, juicy turkey with a ton of sauerkraut and a delicious dressing! It came with chips that thick & crispy. Nice! I had a cold red ale to wash it down too. And the price was more than fair! The place was clean, staff were very friendly and very fast! (Not like the old days) And I paid with plastic! Settled into a former home modified to a restaurant and complete with a front patio and a back patio, this is a well-appointed, tidy place. We were immediately greeted as we entered through the back door and sat at a dining table inside. The staff is really friendly and offered some advice for us to order. We started with an order of cheese curds and ordered 2 cheeseburgers (the 'beast') with upgrade of fries, Asian salad with grilled chicken, and a turkey club with their in-house made potato chips. For Coca-cola product fans, they carry both Diet Coke and Coke Zero. Impressive beer menu - our table ordered one tall and one short. The food was very good. The portions large, and I suffered a case of FOMO enjoying my salad over the two beautiful cheeseburgers as well as the pizza at the table behind us. The fries are fried perfectly - lightly battered, crisp, and that gorgeous mahogany brown shade of a delicious deep fried delight. Our server was excellent and gave great counsel for what to try as well as efficiently taking care of us throughout the meal. Perfect balance of attention and service. We've been here a couple of times. The first was many years ago & our experience wasn't great, so we never went back. We went again recently in order to give it another shot since new owners took over. They have a standard bar & grill type menu. Food is not the best you've ever had, but it's decent. Servers were very understaffed, yet food came out hot & drinks were refilled as needed, so they are trying hard to do a good job which should be commended. They've added a very nice deck to the back, and there is plenty of additional parking back there too. They've used the typical temporary tarp walls to close off the open area above the railing, and it stays decently temperate out there even when the weather's cold, thanks to a heater. The dining room is clean with tables that are a bit separated, so you don't feel like you're dining with strangers. The other patrons are just regular folks, and are a good mix of families, couples, and guys hanging out. Our main current issue with the place is an overwhelming odor of sewer gas that was very noticeable in the back of the dining room near the back entrance. I have no idea what is going on, other than it seems to be a very old building & maybe there are issues w/ the old pipes. So if you plan to dine indoors that may be a problem for you. I'd say the experience was close to a 3.5 but sewer gas odor inside the building knocked off that half point. read more

Out of ingredients for their drinks (sprite, grenadine) didn't have yuengling in anything but a can, the food was ok. Fries over spiced, beer cheese thin as water but had good flavor. Ok, nothing fancy, and not the greatest "bar food" I've had lately, but fine enough. This place seems strangely "overlooked," and I was surprised it wasn't busier on a Saturday night. There was one table of people dining inside, one couple finishing up outside, and just two more groups showed up while we were there. We chose to sit outside on their front patio, and received quick and attentive service from our waitress, who said it was her first week on the job. Standard bar food, I decided on a meatball sub, which truthfully wasn't that great, but not horrible, while the Mr. seemed to enjoy his chicken tenders and fries. He ate here all the time waaaaaaay back when, when he worked at the plant across the street, but I think he might have been going more on nostalgia than actual today's news... Definitely not a "go out of your way" destination, but if you're in the area, and your first (second, third...) choice are all too long a wait, Dunaway's is not a bad option. read more

It's a good Irish pub in Troy. It's nothing fancy. They have some good beer on tap. Food is average. They seem to be cash only. Better than average beer selection for the area. It has a lot of national brands, but also a few local ones. The place smells like sauerkraut. It has the typical Irish food. They are also popular for pizza. I had a Killian's. This is about $3 for a pint. It's not often you can find a place with Killian's on tap, but they have it. They usually aren't too busy, unless it's a holiday or a weekend It's good for a pub in the area. One thing to remember is bring money. The place seems to be cash only. read more

What a nice little surprise! My new-to-town friend having noted Dunaway's, suggested it as an option to meet that would be halfway between her location and mine. Noting others' reviews, I was somewhat bummed simultaneously trying to quickly figure out another option to suggest. Deciding bad form to do so, I went without comment and returning above: what a nice little surprise! Entering for a super-late lunch, and in the middle of the week, we were the only ones in the restaurant. The bartender offered a friendly greeting inviting us to a seat of our choice. She immediately provided menus and inquiry to our drink choice. During the course of our conversation, we were surprised to learn the bartender, Gloria, would also be the one preparing our lunch. But wow, the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker - Gloria did a great job! I will for sure be back for another of those turkey reuben sandwiches, my friend for another pastrami. Edit: I will be back for another HALF of a turkey reuben. Those sandwiches were huge. The accompanying chips (not sure from where, but tasted as tho they were made more locally [read: a bit thicker, crispier, and more flavorful than say a Lays] were also very good. And the pickle? I don't always eat the accompanying pickle, but glad I did and in retrospect wish I'd have asked for another. Yum. I didn't read the others' reviews to know why they were low, just that they were. Dunaway's is my choice in Troy for grabbing a beer and sitting out in the sun, now that the weather is getting nice. They've got the best beer selection in town, with several Great Lakes Brewery beers on draught, and the front deck is very chill, overlooking Main Street a couple blocks west of the downtown square. Good place to see who walks past. The reuben is great (and huge). If you like that, try the reuben pizza next time. Prices almost make me feel guilty - a pitcher of some of the best beer in America is still less than eight bucks. In the evening, the place fills up. There's live music on some nights, and the town turns out. This is a great local pub to have in walking distance, but I think most of the people around here already know that... *Edit: I stand corrected. The new Leaf and Vine, under its new owner, now has the best beer selection in town, although most of it is in bottles. There's no shame though in being beaten by the best. read more

To prevent contamination, eliminate the cockroaches. Ensure to contact licensed exterminator and provide invoice. Observed one live cockroach in the kitchen, behind the microwave on the prep table. Also, observed numerous live cockroaches in the basement by the beer compressor in an old saltine cracker box -- roughly 50 adults and juveniles were observed inside the cracker box. Also, observed bag of coffee grounds in the basement that had signs of gnawing by rodents on the packaging Observed numerous dead cockroaches throughout the kitchen upstairs, and throughout the basement. Remove the dead pests. Plumbing system not properly maintained or repaired. Observed leaks in plumbing in the ceiling of the basement, at bottom of stairs. Observed copper plumbing pipes leaking at the seams and dripping onto floor at the bottom of stairs. Also, observed a large amount of water and moisture in the corner of the basement near the utility sink. Also, observed water leak behind bar near the dish washer. The roast beef sandwich was delicious! My fiancee enjoyed the corned beef as well. The meat comes from a local butcher, and you can tell based on its freshness. I enjoyed the quaint atmosphere. The bartenders can pour one of the best pints of Guinness in the States. We enjoyed our time there, and we will definitely be back. read more

Jules and I hit Dunaway's while on a bit of an excursion up in the Troy area. We've been there a handful of times since our first visit last year, though to be honest, I'm not exactly sure *why*. For what seems to be a reasonble, Irish-themed honky-tonk, there never seem to be many people at Dunaway's. And, probably because of that, the staff there always seems lackadaisical. They take entirely too long to refill drinks, to check up on customers, or to bring the bill. Really, it's like they can't be bothered to serve you. The food, though, is pretty tasty. Their roast beef sandwich is piled high with shaved beef and comes with a spicy brown mustard. The bread leaves a little to be desired, as it's a bit mealy and isn't toasted. I've definitely had better sandwiches at North Market in Columbus or at Firehouse Subs in Huber Heights. Jules usually gets the pizza at Dunway's, of which there are several varieties. Really, it's...just pizza. Not great. not bad. It's just there. Really, I can't think of much positive or negative to say about Dunaway's, which might be the worst indictment of all. They're competent, they're never really busy, and the food is reasonable. If you can get past a lazy, complacent staff, it's okay. But that's about it. read more

I hadn't been here to eat in a long time so I thought I would try it again. Waitress was horrible. I could see into the kitchen and no one was using gloves. I saw the owner man handle a sandwich of a customer with no gloves either. Meatballs had no flavor and were burnt the sauce had no taste. I ordered a Rueben and the meat was cold. The pickle even tasted weird. Salad was okay but ranch dressing was a little discolored. The sausage sandwich was the only thing that was edible. I was disappointed and will not be back. The good: They have the best tap selection in the county, the food portions are large and at a good price. The bad: The taps are not always clean or are old. I have been there many times and seen food orders sent back and the manager loudly goes back to the kitchen. Overall: It is a pub in a small town. So try the Great Lakes on tap and order some type of lunchmeat sandwich. Beware of stuff that comes out of the kitchen. read more
