Although the food ia excellent, the service was beyond disappointing. I ordered the Asian Salmon Club, but I'm gluten free. I told the waitress that I wanted it without the sourdough, and that I had wanted an order of of the roasted Brussel Sprouts, as I was looking forward to them. She said fine and that the sandwich had come with salad Greens. Sounded great, and yes it was delicious. BUT! They basically only gave me a 4oz piece of salmon and a few salad greens, and I'm guessing she didn't put my Brussel Sprouts order in because I kept asking for them and I didn't get them until I was pretty much done eating. I also had to ask for water, when she'd been past my table serving other guests several times and I had finished my water. They bagged the Sprouts up for me and said they were not charged, but by then I didn't want them. Then, as I had stated I was pretty much done, and I'm trying to wave her down to pay for my food as she's going to other tables. I ended up walking to the bar to cash out. I'm hoping it was just an off night as I hadn't been in years so I was looking forward to eating there again. But if service is like this, I may not go back for some more years. On our way out of town we were looking for a place to stop for lunch that allowed dogs. We found Ray's and were comfortably seated on the patio, which we basically had to ourselves! Their are a lot of beers and food on the menu. We decided on some beers and ordered sandwiches which automatically came with a salad instead of chips or fries. We were so excited about that! We attended memorial services here for a dear friend. The owner took time to serve our drinks. The food provided was delicious-chicken quesadillas, shrimp quesadillas, meatballs, hummus, warm spinach and artichoke dip with chips and an excellent crudite platter. Even though it was sometimes a somber event the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice. We enjoyed the camaraderie. I would like to visit the restaurant at another time for dinner. Once in a great while I come across an establishment and realize I've never experienced anything quite like it. Ray's is one of those places. It's got a dual personality- in a very good way. Walk in, turn left, and it's an amazing wine shop with all kinds of varieties in different price ranges, wine snacks and accessories, and a humidor stocked with quality cigars. And, a huge beer cave with a staggering variety of brews. But if you turn right, you're in a quietly elegant barroom with comfy seats at the bar, high tops, plus low dining tables. There are I believe a dozen beers on tap - might be 16- and a great wine list. But if you prefer, just pick your poison from the retail side and bring it over. Genius! If you're expecting bar food, think again. An amazing eclectic menu featuring three daily soups, seafood, steaks, pasta bolognese (major yum), seriously good sandwich options, unique appetizers (don't miss the smoked trout) and a selection of flatbreads with some crazy topping choices. And more. Everything we've had is delicious. It's a chef-driven menu serving up locally sourced and mostly organic foods, everything made fresh to order. Some of the best quality restaurant food I've ever had. I would consider dining at the bar to be the best experience. The low dining tables feel like they are right in the path of people coming and going from the bathroom and the kitchen. It's a little awkward in that section and too brightly lit, in my opinion. The high tops are very cozy, but it can be a little challenging to catch a waiter's or waitress' eye if you need something. I'm sticking with bar seating and hope to be back again soon. read more

One would think a wine bar would pair with an appropriate plate, rather than Oscar Meyer lunch meat and processed cheddar cheese. Of course the main draw is the wine. Superior collection priced for the average income. Really great selection of Pinot Noirs and Zins. The pizzas are eclectic (Fig, yes Fig) and if the wild caught fish is snapper, get it. Can't say enough positive about Ray's, if you need a favorite wine, Melinda will get it - but I bet you will find a really good one in stock. We tried this for brunch on a Sunday and it was great food. My wife had the chicken salad sandwich and I had a 3 egg omelette with diced ham, chorizo and cheddar cheese. It was pretty tasty. You can tell that everything is freshly made. Now onto the important stuff... They have a beer cave that is next to none in the Dayton area. I have never seen such a different collection of IPAs and regular brands available. They even let you select your drink and take it to your table for your dinner. You can literally spend enough time to get frostbite in the beer cave just looking at the different brands and choices. Service was quick and very friendly. I reviewed Rays a few years ago and remained a loyal customer for a long time. However over the years I experienced multiple lapses in service. The food is typically very good but it's the "roll of the dice" service that has kept me away lately. Friends of ours who've visited recently experienced the same. I will say if you sit at the bar, you'll likely get better service but I struggle with their inability to staff or inability to staff people who know what a really good restaurant needs. As noted, the food is good but if it takes forever to get served, it's not really worth it. I hope they improve, because I do like the place, nice local restaurant and bar with a beer cave and plenty of wine. read more

I don't usually write reviews but when I wake up the next morning and the experience is still on my mind, why not! It was my first time there, and I was with a party of 10. The server was pretty good despite the fact that she was the only person for the entire front area! I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and asked for cheddar and Muenster cheese but only got one of the two that I ordered. Two people that ordered didn't receive their order at all and the kitchen servers were not concerned at all! So let's just say that I won't be going back no time soon!! read more

Ray's is an absolute 10! Don't be fooled by the casual appearance from the outside or it's location. This is a cool wine shop with an amazing bar and restaurant all in one. For lunch I had the pasta bolognese and it was awesome!! It tasted as if a little Italian grandma was working in the kitchen and had been cooking for hours! So incredibly tasty and was complete perfection. The wine by the glass list is pretty decent and very affordable. Lunch was fabulous! After lunch I strolled the isles of the wine shop and was blown away. Wines from everywhere and bottles for every price range. Best of all for this Oregon guy was that they had some of my favorite Oregon wines at truly remarkable prices. I bought several vintages! I will preface this by saying I'm a sales/service guy...so it MATTERS to me. The food was good. The service not just below average ...I'm talking poor. Sat at bar - took a while to get even a hello, and then another 5-10 minutes to flag down the bartender to order a drink. They had servers - about 4/5 for maybe 15 tables. They had the bartender covering dining tables. I hope she is new at this because if she has been doing this, I feel bad for her. I don't think they were overwhelmed, maybe they were. She was friendly enough when she swung by. The food is good. I just can't say I will return because of the above. I think this is my 15-20th review and only the 2nd marginal one. Would like to tell you about the food, but we never saw any waitstaff. Thursday afternoon, only 2 other tables of diners, we walked in, sign said seat yourself, we did. The person behind the wine checkout looked at us, said nothing. We waited 5 minutes, not even a server in sight, person at the wine checkout looked at us again. Still no gesture or acknowledgment that we were there. Five more minutes, staff from the kitchen yelling that someone's food was ready, but nobody ever emerged from the kitchen.
