Good choices to kick things off with and then we ordered all the apps! Good attempt w the Boudin Balls, but it needed alot more sausage, tasted like rice balls. The Muffaletta Deviled Eggs were very salty. Even after taking the olive topping off, the saltiness was soaked into the egg. Now the Grilled Shrimp Maque Choux was off the chain! I could've eaten 20 plates. Off to the entrees, we went with the Jambalaya and the Gumbo. The only mistake was not getting a bowl of Gumbo! It was very good. Cajuns would be proud! I hope the Gumbo is on their regular menu! Cannot wait to come back and try other stuff. We were super excited for our dinner celebration of our college grad with family. unfortunately that wasn't going to happen. we timely ordered our drinks and appetizers took about 25 minutes to arrive the dinner took over more than 60 minutes. the first waitress left because we asked her if she had to catch the fish. before she did leave she said the kitchen was backed up and slammed. The restaurant was only a 1/4 full. Than The second waiter blamed it on mother's day which was the following day and didn't make sense. The food finally arrived and was average at best. some of our meals were slightly warm, dry and overcooked. Expectations were high unfortunately staff, quality of food and time were not on our side. We stopped in not knowing that this was their last night at this location. The place has a good vibe and is in a 3 story building with a nice mural on the side. We sat at the bar and had great service from the bartender Heather. We enjoyed some cold wine and deviled eggs. The eggs had a great fresh taste where the dill really stood out but wasn't overpowering. I had the salmon BLT which was delicious. My wife had the chicken avo sandwich and said it was the best chicken sandwich she had ever had. We ordered some chicken fingers for our son and his fiancé to go. Beautiful night to try this new to Centerville restaurant. Never had the chance to try them in downtown Dayton but I had heard good things about them. The brand new building they built near downtown Centerville is simple but works well for a pub type restaurant. I had reservations through Tock so we had no wait for our booth. The booth was comfy and tall to give ample dining privacy. There is also a nice patio for seating as well that many took advantage of on this beautiful night. Our server was Nicholas (I may have spelled it incorrectly). He was friendly and knowledgeable and was able to answer our menu questions. He even got us to try an order of their maple bacon Brussel sprouts, which I never would have tried in a million years. They were delicious and did not taste like Brussel sprouts, which are usually gross . Food and drink was overall delicious. We enjoyed it and will be back. read more

We came here for what was supposed to be a special evening--a joint birthday dinner for my wife and my father. There were 8 of us total, including 3 kids (who are picky eaters, so we only even tried one kids' meal). By the end, our bill was over $240, which we were fine with--until everything fell apart. At the end of the meal, my mom brought out a tiny birthday cake to share. Now, to be fair, I understand some restaurants don't allow outside food--that's their right, and I don't even love my mom's tradition of bringing birthday cake to restaurants. When she asked our server for a few plates and utensils, though, the server returned saying management told her it was "state law." Calling it the law felt misleading, when it's really just restaurant policy. We decided to quietly cut the cake ourselves with the few extra plates and utensils already left at the table, not trying to make a scene. But when the bill arrived, it included two surprises: An $8 "cake plate fee," even though we were refused plates. An automatic gratuity for 8 people--even though 3 were small children who barely ate. At that point my mom calmly went to the front to ask about the charges. Instead of a professional conversation, the manager immediately raised her voice, grew defensive, and escalated the situation. My dad (who is not confrontational at all) tried to reason with her and even apologized, but she continued to yell. I stepped in as well, pointing out she was handling it poorly. My wife, who has formal de-escalation training from her corporate management role, said this was the exact opposite of how a manager should behave. Shockingly, the manager even threatened to call the police--over a small cake. This turned a simple, avoidable situation into an embarrassing spectacle in a half-empty restaurant on a Wednesday night. We paid (they did remove the "cake fee" but left the forced gratuity) and left with our birthday gifts unopened. The night was completely soured. To top it off, another customer stopped us in the parking lot to say they had witnessed the whole thing and thought it was ridiculous and uncalled for. Bottom line: We understand restaurants have policies, and we weren't trying to break them. But the way this situation was handled--with hostility, dishonesty, and a complete lack of customer service--was appalling. We'll never return, and we'll strongly discourage friends and family from going here as well. read more

We had trouble finding a place to eat on a Saturday night and stumbled upon this place since it was close to our airbnb and could get us in quickly. There was a nice selection of beers and we ordered one while waiting at the bar. After being seated we noticed that the menu has specialty items for Mardi Gras which we were so excited about. We ended up ordering the poutine, jambalaya and balsamic burger. It did take a little time to come from the kitchen but I'm convinced it is because everything is cooked with care. Got dinner here before seeing Hadestown. I got the fig jam burger and it the job. It was a little overcooked but the flavors were still there and the fries were delightful. Despite being busy, our waitress did her best to check in on us and make sure we made it to the show on time. Our recent visit had a bit of a rough start. We told the hostess it was our first time and kind of expected 'sit wherever you like' since we were the only customers there. But she tried to stick us at a very small 2 top right under an AC vent. My husband objected. I asked for a booth, and it was granted. Then she tells me they have no paper menus and cannot print one, so "You're gonna have to use the QR code. " I don't think that's the way to speak to a customer, especially one who is, well, quite a bit older than you. Honestly if we hadn't been under a time constraint I would have gone elsewhere. Our waiter arrived - Nick. He was very good, professional, checking on us, just the right amount of attentive. Now I never use QR code OPTION at a restaurant. I'm staring at a screen enough as it is. I asked Nick what's the deal, and he very politely explained they were currently updating the menu and would be printing new ones but unfortunately not ready yet. And suggested if we didn't want to mess with the scanning just go to their website. The food- cup of chili arrived quickly and was a beautiful sight but sadly it was cold. I waved Nick down who promised to replace with a hot one, which he did. Piping. Chili was great, good medium spice level and contained chopped green pepper which made for a nice texture. My husband had the Reuben which he said was delicious. The Brussels sprouts were awesome. Shaved/sliced very small so every bite was crispy and well charred. Crab cakes were good but there was a bit of fishiness and I think not enough crab in proportion to cake. The accompanying greens with lemony dressing were superb. There's a serious industrial vibe to the premises, not surprising being a 100 year old former Model T dealership! I liked the prohibition era themes in the decor. The background music was new agey and soothing. I hope when they get around to printing those menus they include some of the historic information. That's what local flavor's all about. read more

I liked this place! It fits you like a worn leather glove, warm, friendly, nice people, great food, great beer selection and on and on.. We stopped here for dinner as we had reservations for a play and this was close to the theater. Parking was easy as the parking meters stop at 6 and that's when we arrived. We started with bruschetta. It comes in a glass cup with thin very crispy toasted bread. Not a fan of this and we agreed we would not reorder it. I had the Cobb salad with blue cheese dressing. Chicken, avocado, tomato's egg, on top of greens. The blue cheese crumbles just made it that much better. The blue cheese dressing was rich and delicious! My SO had the spinach salad with chicken. This is such a fun spot for a big group! We made day-of reservations for a party of 9 adults and 2 children, and had a great experience at Mudlick. This historic building in downtown Dayton has a neat automotive history -- I definitely recommend asking your server about it, or looking it up while you're dining! We were seated on the second floor -- and the staff was so accommodating to the elderly members of our group that have trouble getting up and down the stairs. They have a service elevator that they primarily use for employees, but they were more than willing to allow our grandparents to ride up. They have a decent list of rotating drafts: I ordered the Platform Co. Red Martian sour, and that seemed to be a hit among the rest of our party, because three other people ordered the same. We started with a few appetizers -- the soft pretzel was delicious, although the cheese dip wasn't my favorite. The buffalo cauliflower bites were cooked perfectly, and while I didn't try the Crab Dip, the other people in our group practically licked the dish clean. I ordered the "Cauliflower Power" vegan entree, and was so happy with how this was served! The cauliflower was grilled and seasoned beautifully, and the lemon vinaigrette it was topped with just brought the whole dish together. The only thing I would have changed is that the while beans underneath the "steak" were a little cold ... that could have been because our party had several other orders, so it definitely wouldn't deter me from ordering this again. I was able to taste some of the other dishes we ordered ... the french fries and aioli were absolutely my favorite bite of the night. The "Trotty Coddy," which is their version of fish and chips, was also spot on. The portion sizes are pretty big -- but I feel like they match the prices. Our waitress was so kind and attentive -- and even though the food and drinks took a while to get to us, she continually checked in on us to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. Our party ranged in age from 1-year-old to 87-years-old, and everyone left happy and full of straight up yummy food! We'd love to come back here again soon -- I definitely recommend Mudlick for your next big family or friend dinner. read more

Wow! What a find Searching for a dinner spot in/near Dayton after visiting Wright brothers/Paul Dunbar sites and found this restaurant with multiple favorite dishes on the menu and good reviews. So glad we picked Mudlick Tap House! Lots of positives: bright, clean restaurant. Friendly greeter, super nice and professional waitperson (thank you Alex!). Food was JUST SO GOOD!!! Deviled eggs were creamy, savory and piquant (scarfed them down like candy). Shrimp and grits were a bit different than traditional style with crushed fresh grape tomatoes, but they added a delicious twist of freshness and a bright flavor that really worked. Excellent grits to shrimp and sausage ratio (sometimes restaurants skimp on the grits!). Husband had chicken gumbo, wonderful rich flavor, and chicken pot pie that's layered on a cheese biscuit instead of under a crust. Both were winners! The one less than stellar choice was the blueberry/blackberry crisp. The oatmeal topping was dry and raw-tasting with a tough texture that wasn't very appealing. The one positive was that it wasn't too sweet. Plus, $6 for a small scoop of ice cream seemed a bit much. Coffee was very good, though... Saving the best for last, the crowning glory of the meal was the BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE I EVER HAD (and that's saying a lot!). Fortified with stout which added an extra depth of flavor, it had a dense, toothsome texture and was extremely chocolatey without being too sweet. It was a huge slice, readily sharable for a takeout late night snack. Overall, one of the best meals we've had in a while, and prices weren't too bad for the quality of the meal. We had a terrible experience at the Mudlick Tavern tonight. We made a reservation to celebrate a family birthday. After spending lots of money on food & drink (~$245), my wife asked for some desert dishes for a small ceremonial B-Day cake she brought in. Unfortunately, the management became very hostile/rude to us and denied providing anything to support our celebration finale. The manager/owner's whole demeanor spoiled the party. She had the personality of a toilet brush. These people obviously don't know how to run a hospitality business. I'll advise anyone against patronizing this place. She took our food order, then came back and said they were out of one of the entrees. Reordered. Food came out 40 minutes later. 1 entree was lukewarm, 1 was room temp. Sent the coldest one back, it came out in less than a minute. Food was ok, but not GREAT. Server was nice enough. Beautiful building, but extremely loud inside, no way to have a conversation at the table. All in all, we were there over 2 hours, and bill was almost $55 for 2 waters, a gyro, and fettucine. Pricey, even in today's world. Had a good experience when it was downtown. This is just minutes from home, but not sure we'll be back. Pretty disappointing, unfortunately. read more

Tried to give this place a second chance but it was the same result. Ordered red beans and rice. The rice was jasmine, which was very strange to me. This kind of more southern dish doesn't work well with sticky rice. Shrimp had a good sear flavor on the outside, but all three shrimp were undercooked on the inside - and it was a bit much to be 6 extra dollars for 3 pieces of shrimp. Red beans were really mediocre because they didn't have that much flavor. I did taste some tomatoes, but overall it was a one-note bean flavor missing salt. Menu says it comes with onion, bell pepper, and celery, but I saw very little of those aromatics. I think there was no celery at all, so maybe they had ran out. Mudlick is a great local restaurant in a cool historic building in the heart of downtown Dayton. Despite mixed emotions over the last few dinners here my partner and I decided to give them another try tonight and were not disappointed. During my last visit I had given much attention to the sub par service, however this time we were 100% satisfied. Our server Erin couldn't have been more attentive to our needs and everyone seemed to work as a team this time. This was really refreshing compared to before and obviously some changes have been put into place. As for the food, everything tonight was fantastic. For drinks, we both had the Yellow Springs Boat Show which is a local favorite IPA for both of us. Great to see such a great beer on the menu! We decided to start a little untraditional with the maple Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer. So delicious! I love when Brussels sprouts are cooked like this. (Pictured) For my entree I had the Crawdad Étouffée (pictured) from the seasonal menu and it was tremendous! It could've used a little more Cajun seasoning but I tend to like things a little spicier. Overall, the étouffée was great but what stole the show with it were the biscuits! Wow!!! The biscuits under the étouffée gravy were light, fluffy and perfect!! So good. For dessert we had the Beignets. (Also pictured) Dang these were so good! Light, fluffy and like the biscuits were cooked to absolute perfection! I personally enjoy some chocolate sauce or something to dip them in but I appreciate the simplicity of just the beignets with powdered sugar as they were perfect. Overall, based upon my latest dinner here I would absolutely recommend Mudlick. They've clearly made some changes since my last visit and I'm so happy to enjoy a wonderful meal in a busy and beautiful venue in Dayton. read more

It was our first visit and we'll be back! We loved that we could enjoy Happiness Hours at a quiet table for 2 instead of having to sit at the bar for the specials. We enjoyed an old fashioned and manhattan during happy hour and both were well made and quite strong. We were plesantly surprised at all the entree options, and appreciated there is much more than bar food here.
