Mother's Day brunch a huge disaster. Young hostesses put us at 4 person table although there were 5 in our party. She said she would find us an extra chair. 8 minutes later still waiting. Had to get my own chair and place setting from another table. 40 minutes later still waiting for Bloody Marys and buffet to be served. Elderly people in our party were famished. Buffet had only one line and 40 people rushed it like cattle when they finally gave the go ahead to start. We left and went to Laff's. The bright star was Paula our server who took our drink order. She was the best. Sorry we had to leave Paula. It wasn't because of you. Clearly it was disorganized and kitchen was not prepared. Young hostess need training. read more

Florentine Our schedule for today mandates a journey to Greenville, OH for a funeral for a member of Sons of the American Revolution. It is a fantastic early fall drive, and the farmland north of I-70 is inviting. The ancient village of Germantown is calling as is the ancient Florentine Pub. The ancient bar in this ancient pub is remarkable. The long string of owners over the past 60 years have done nothing to improve or update the property, and it seems much as it was 60 years ago. In the past the Florentine provide a great Sunday Buffet, which has been downgraded to a Sunday Brunch. Today we have interest in the Beer-Battered Fish Platter - two generous tavern-style fillets, beer battered and fried golden. served with coleslaw and a side. First I ascertain that the fish is Not tilapia - never order tilapia. - Fish is cod; frozen, but a nice meal. I elect a baked potato (leftover from last night,) but fine. The star of the meal is fresh green salad. Paula is the all in one hostess, server, and cashier. Paula is wonderful and a 5 0f 5. We went to The Florentine for Dayton Burger Week; after reading all the descriptions of the burgers at the various restaurants, we thought they had one of the most interesting selections. The restaurant dates back to the early 1800s and has kept that vibe with original floors and other decor that looks like it comes from that era as well. Our server did a good job and was cheerful but the kitchen was pretty slow. We weren't in a hurry so that was fine but it wouldn't be a place I'd choose if I wanted a quick bite. Our table of three ordered 2 burgers and pork sliders. The burgers were good, a bit dry but the toppings were good and we enjoyed our sides of onion rings and sweet potato fries also. Just stopped in for a beer, although I've eaten there before. I had a fantastic amber ale from Alaskan Brewing. IYKYK This is a historic place that used to be a hotel, one of 2 in the state (if my memory serves) . It's got a lot of wood and is really quaint/ cool bathroom. The food is very good. The food here has been pretty darn good. First trip I had a steak and scallops. The steak was perfect, the scallops could have had a harder sear - but they were still delicious. On the second trip we ordered the pretzel and you have to have one. The mustard is delicious. Something that they should bottle and sell in the store. I also ordered the fish and chips and was very happy. The serving size was big and the batter stayed on the fish as I was eating my meal. On the last visit, we decided to get a drink at the bar and just an appetizer. Which app??? Well, the pretzel...The whole reason why we came here. We stopped in for burger week. I have driven by the place so many times finally stopped in to try it. Great historical feel with a solid bar line up. Everyone got burgers but I had the pork rib sliders which were excellent. The onion rings were a show stopper. Super friendly service and a very fun vibe. New owners, new menu, new chapter in the long history. We had a great experience. The owner seated us and was most welcoming and pleased to talk about the improvements and future plans. The main dining room with bar has had some slight changes giving it a more open feel, but without losing any of the historic atmosphere. I like it. Menu has been pared down,includes weekly specials and has three cuts of steak on offer. I was interested to try the pork ribeye but had to express my concern about pork being overdone. The chef came out to discuss- he promised me the most tender, juiciest pork I've ever had in a restaurant. I accepted the challenge and he nailed it. Best pork EVER. He said it took him three years to perfect the method. I would highly recommend this dish, if you like pork it'll knock your socks off. My husband had the chicken Florentine which was also tender and delicious. Before the mains we took advantage of happy hour and got the Pretzel. So good, and it's huge. Soft as butter inside and a perfect lightly crisp deep fried exterior with plenty of salt. I actually liked the queso better than the beer cheese for dipping but that's me. Honestly, I am a New Yorker so I would adore this Pretzel with spicy brown mustard. We were checked on several times. All the staff were very polite. We will return. read more

My family and I went to Florentine for dinner yesterday evening (9/27/25). In short, our visit fell WELL under my expectations for a good dining experience. We arrived around 6PM, were promptly seated, and had ordered our meals by about 6:10 PM. Our server was initially attentive, and promised to bring a take-home box for one of our party with our meal (at our request). That never happened. We also requested that the check for one of our party be billed separately. That never happened. By 6:45, we were all getting hungry. Our server made repeated excuses for the kitchen being "backed up." Shortly after 7PM, our food finally arrived. Of course, we had no silverware. This led to my wife picking at her broccoli with her hands, and my son and I eating some French fries. We flagged down our server, requesting silverware. ...and waited... ...and waited... After about 5 minutes, the server swung by the table and dropped a wad of forks & cloth napkins before zooming away. We were left to separate the "wad" for each dinner guest. After a few minutes (when we flagged down our server), my wife requested a knife for her Chicken Florentine. The knife never arrived, so she ended up having to shred her chicken into pieces with the fork & her fingers. The male owner of the Florentine was seen talking with some bar guests, focusing on what TV channel to use. He later chatted with some other guests about alcohol (he had several bottles in his hand). His time might have been better served by folding napkins & silverware for his guests, and by "expediting" food from his understaffed kitchen out to guests so that his understaffed servers would not forget simple requests. The food was excellent - great flavor, moist, good portion sizes. After finishing our meal, we waited for our server to return. She was obviously zooming from table to table to point-of-sale terminal in the dining area. She seemed to be deliberately avoiding eye contact with our table so as to not be delayed. She then disappeared into the kitchen for a while. My wife had to go up to the bar to request the promised carryout container. My wife later had to get the attention of another server to ask our server for the check. Despite having requested that one of the meals be billed separately, that didn't happen. In short, obviously understaffed/overwhelmed back-of-house, understaffed/overwhelmed front-of-house, inadequate pre-dinner supply preparation (silverware/linens), inattentive owner/manager. I have lived in Germantown for 13 years and I had never been to the Florentine.. (I know, shame on me) My mom, my two grown children, and I, went yesterday for "wine down Wednesday" and it was wonderful. Perfect patio sitting weather! 50% off all wines all day Wednesday, and happy hour is until six. Happy hour includes half-price drinks and appetizers. I got the naked wings with buffalo garlic sauce, and they were awesome! Quality chicken, and they were cooked crispy and covered in lots of sauce just like I like. We also had brussels sprouts, which were probably the best I've ever had. They were covered in a sweet glaze and topped with cranberries and candied pecans. My daughter got the spinach artichoke dip and the chips were hand cut and fried, and the dip was topped with a thick layer of mozzarella cheese. It was so good, and it was all half off! Our server was polite and super attentive (I think his name was Cody) Just an overall great experience and we can't wait to go back! This restaurant appeared to be freshly painted outside and spruced up inside as well. It had a lot of old charm. I ordered chicken Florentine with carrots and a side salad. It was all delicious. Food was nasty, cold, and had no flavor after a 2 hours wait. Service was good but we're limited on servers. I do not recommend.

Service was a bit slow when we went due to a large group in the private room but the server was kind and kept us up to date. We were there for over two hours, waiting most of that time for our food. The pretzel was the star of the show for us. I honestly can't remember what we had but it was okay not very memorable. But the pretzel, now that was delicious! It came with beer cheese and mustard. Both were so yummy but we wanted to bottle up the mustard and take it home with us. The ambiance was nice but some of the renovations did seem quite complete. Overall, the experience was great! The food was delicious and the service was fast and friendly! The building is from the 1800's and they still have it set up to kind of feel that way which I appreciate! They are currently fixing up the 3rd floor to open up rooms again as it was a hotel at some point. We spent a lovely evening on the patio. The live music wasn't too loud and the music they played kept our attention, never became white noise. We ordered the American burger and the grilled pork ribeye, both delicious. The burger was typically cooked with crusty edges, and a substitution for the bread was made to the marbled rye. The pork was very tender, and the green beans and sweet potato fries complimented it well. A place to bring the whole family to sit in the back room and have a family meal together. Now it's mostly burgers... which they don't even do well. What about drinks? This cozy spot is a two minute walk from my house, so this review will be a bit of a homer take. I love the bartender- (terrible I can't remember his name)- he always takes care of the wife & I. The filet is great. The Philly cheesesteak is KILLER. The wife always gets the Florentine chicken, it's great as well. The drinks are original & even though almost everything is a little pricey- you don't mind paying, and all the staff is great. The chef also makes really good salsa that he sells in the local farmers market. A GREAT local business to support, and 100% worth the drive if you're not nearby. read more

Stopped in one evening with some family while visiting my father. We had an assortment of meals in our group of 8. We had steaks, ribs, wings burgers and oh hell yes the desserts. The steak was as good or better than the steak I had last month at Peter Lugers in New York. The ribs were flavorful and well prepared. The burgers simply cannot be beat. The desserts however were I. A league of their own. The banana dessert my father had was off the carts good and don't even think about ordering anything without the ice cream too. The water tasted like a chlorinated swimming pool which was disgusting. I ordered the 1/4 lb burger for $8.99 which did NOT include a side. I opted to pay $3.99 for a side of onion rings. Hubby got fish & chips (Orange roughy) $13.99. He paid $2.99 for an additional side of coleslaw. Our server was polite but service was slower than it should have been & it took awhile to get our food. Eventually our plates arrived piping hot. My burger & onion rings were average. Hubby said the fish was good, fries were average & the coleslaw was below average - too much vinegar. For dessert, we split a piece of chocolate cake which was a small piece but decadent. Saturday my hubs and I decided to go to a local restaurant in Germantown. We had been in the past and wanted to eat local. The restaurant is in a former hotel circa 1882. Very cool building. Love the hardwoods the beams. Makes for a nice ambiance. Took a bit for someone to come to the table. Ordered stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. Stuffed with sausage and cheese although it had a taste similar to sausage gravy. Only cheese I tasted was the Parmesan on top. For our entrees i had fish and chips and the hubs had a burger with cheese and mushrooms is a merlot reduction sauce. He ordered medium it came pretty well done. His side was sweet potato casserole which was quite brown but he said tasted better than it looked. My fish was way over cooked. A bit dry is an understatement. Appeared to be cooked in very old oil. The fries were quite tasty and has a great seasoning on them. Our server was nice but a bit slow. All and all I don't think we will return. Price was average. Not overpriced at all. This historic building is really cool. The happy hour drinks were also very good. The problem was the quality of the meal. Two of us had the ribeye steak and they were both chewy and grizzly. We had our thanksgiving dinner here and it was one of the best I've had in awhile. They take reservations for thanksgiving but we all smiled nice and let us in anyway. When I did my online research, I didn't see that they required reservations. They are truly good people-the kind of people you wouldn't object to hanging with. They only offered the buffet. Not miles and miles of platters and plates, but what they had was delicious. The ham was out of this world good. The turkey was cooked well and also good. The corn pudding was oh so yummy! I think the stuffing was close to scratch, if not straight-up scratch. The cranberry sauce never saw the inside of a can. Pumpkin pie? The piece was rather on the small side, but I didn't care! They have a full service bar but just offered wine and beer on thanksgiving. I tried one of their signature beers and enjoyed every sip. This restaurant is one of the oldest continuously running ones in ohio and the atmosphere reflects that. It's obvious that the building has been maintained with care over the years. read more
