Southern Burger and Sweet Potato Fries

We went to The Florentine for Dayton Burger Week; after reading all the descriptions of the burgers at the various restaurants, we thought they had one of the most interesting selections. The restaurant dates back to the early 1800s and has kept that vibe with original floors and other decor that looks like it comes from that era as well. Our server did a good job and was cheerful but the kitchen was pretty slow. We weren't in a hurry so that was fine but it wouldn't be a place I'd choose if I wanted a quick bite. Our table of three ordered 2 burgers and pork sliders. The burgers were good, a bit dry but the toppings were good and we enjoyed our sides of onion rings and sweet potato fries also. We ate indoors this visit but we'd like to return and sit out on their patio on a night they have live music.

Just stopped in for a beer, although I've eaten there before. I had a fantastic amber ale from Alaskan Brewing. IYKYK This is a historic place that used to be a hotel, one of 2 in the state (if my memory serves) . It's got a lot of wood and is really quaint/ cool bathroom. The food is very good. The wood bar is a piece of art. You should visit at least once.

The food here has been pretty darn good. First trip I had a steak and scallops. The steak was perfect, the scallops could have had a harder sear - but they were still delicious. On the second trip we ordered the pretzel and you have to have one. The mustard is delicious. Something that they should bottle and sell in the store. I also ordered the fish and chips and was very happy. The serving size was big and the batter stayed on the fish as I was eating my meal. On the last visit, we decided to get a drink at the bar and just an appetizer. Which app??? Well, the pretzel...The whole reason why we came here. The staff has always been nothing but friendly and great.

Lovely antique bar that has to be an original to the place

We stopped in for burger week. I have driven by the place so many times finally stopped in to try it. Great historical feel with a solid bar line up. Everyone got burgers but I had the pork rib sliders which were excellent. The onion rings were a show stopper. Super friendly service and a very fun vibe. There is a large patio that they were setting up for a band. I know I will be back soon

New owners, new menu, new chapter in the long history. We had a great experience. The owner seated us and was most welcoming and pleased to talk about the improvements and future plans. The main dining room with bar has had some slight changes giving it a more open feel, but without losing any of the historic atmosphere. I like it. Menu has been pared down, includes weekly specials and has three cuts of steak on offer. I was interested to try the pork ribeye but had to express my concern about pork being overdone. The chef came out to discuss- he promised me the most tender, juiciest pork I've ever had in a restaurant. I accepted the challenge and he nailed it. Best pork EVER. He said it took him three years to perfect the method. I would highly recommend this dish, if you like pork it'll knock your socks off. My husband had the chicken Florentine which was also tender and delicious. Before the mains we took advantage of happy hour and got the Pretzel. So good, and it's huge. Soft as butter inside and a perfect lightly crisp deep fried exterior with plenty of salt. I actually liked the queso better than the beer cheese for dipping but that's me. Honestly, I am a New Yorker so I would adore this Pretzel with spicy brown mustard. We were checked on several times. All the staff were very polite. We will return.

I have lived in Germantown for 13 years and I had never been to the Florentine.. (I know, shame on me) My mom, my two grown children, and I, went yesterday for "wine down Wednesday" and it was wonderful. Perfect patio sitting weather! 50% off all wines all day Wednesday, and happy hour is until six. Happy hour includes half-price drinks and appetizers. I got the naked wings with buffalo garlic sauce, and they were awesome! Quality chicken, and they were cooked crispy and covered in lots of sauce just like I like. We also had brussels sprouts, which were probably the best I've ever had. They were covered in a sweet glaze and topped with cranberries and candied pecans. My daughter got the spinach artichoke dip and the chips were hand cut and fried, and the dip was topped with a thick layer of mozzarella cheese. It was so good, and it was all half off! Our server was polite and super attentive (I think his name was Cody) Just an overall great experience and we can't wait to go back! Just wanted to share so we can all support our little local businesses.

Thanksgiving dinner tonight was great at The Florentine, food was delicious, turkey, ham, mash potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn casserole, mac&cheese, dressing, green beans (best ever!!) everything top notch, Mica our server was awesome, always smiling and very efficient, highly recommended...... no fuss no mess, only problem no leftovers to take home....

This restaurant appeared to be freshly painted outside and spruced up inside as well. It had a lot of old charm. I ordered chicken Florentine with carrots and a side salad. It was all delicious. We also had a small order of ribs for an appetizer that made me want more. They were great. My only complaint was that I was freezing in the drafty old building.

Overall, the experience was great! The food was delicious and the service was fast and friendly! The building is from the 1800's and they still have it set up to kind of feel that way which I appreciate! They are currently fixing up the 3rd floor to open up rooms again as it was a hotel at some point. We had the ribeye, mac and cheese, green beans, wings, lava cake, salmon, and a couple sandwiches and everyone said their food was really good! We'll definitely be back.

We spent a lovely evening on the patio. The live music wasn't too loud and the music they played kept our attention, never became white noise. We ordered the American burger and the grilled pork ribeye, both delicious. The burger was typically cooked with crusty edges, and a substitution for the bread was made to the marbled rye. The pork was very tender, and the green beans and sweet potato fries complimented it well. Our server had many tables but gave us his attention every opportunity he could to refill our drinks.

Craft cocktails- including pandemic specials like Black Death and a huge original 1800's fireplace

Food was nasty, cold, and had no flavor after a 2 hours wait. Service was good but we're limited on servers. I do not recommend.

We have came here for years and normally very pleased with the food ... exceptional for bar food…read more But this review is for 2 of their daily specials. The Friday fish was not good and wouldn't get ever again. But the Wednesday chicken and dumplings was awful. Even my husband wouldn't eat it and he was in the army and not a picky eater. For one thing it was supposed to be dumplings and it was like they tossed a hard biscuit in the overly salty mess. We would ever get either again. Sorry these specials are a big fat NO.

I enjoyed my visit to Laff's. Love the classic interior with exposed brick and ornate hardwood bar…read more Bar seating was very comfortable and we ate there. There is also a second room with several low tip tables that would be good for groups, along with a pool table AND a pinball machine. I really wanted to play but the machine was very close to an occupied table and I felt it would be awkward. I will scope it out next visit. The barmaid was very kind, funny and very friendly to newcomers. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich + lettuce and tomato and unfortunately it arrived on untoasted bread which made it soggy. I spoke up and she agreed the cook blew it and had it remade in a jiffy. The chicken salad has grapes and chopped nuts...like a Waldorf salad and it was amazingly delicious. Way beyond what you'd expect for "bar food." My husband had the grilled chicken dinner and said the chicken breast was just ok but he was very happy with the baked potato and the salad. I shall return.

Things to Note: -The exterior stairs were locked when we came. There's another set of stairs within Entropy itself. -I did not see an elevator to make it into this basement speakeasy. There is an outdoor and indoor set of stairs. -There is a single unisex restroom downstairs with the speakeasy. It's a tight fit, but it exists. If you need more space, there are a lot more bathrooms upstairs. -Good variety of seating from booths, low top tables, a few bar high top chairs, and a table with high top chairs. -It is DARK down here. Our eyes took some readjusting to the sunlight when we left. If you struggle with lower light areas, this may be too dark. They went for the "super dark, lit by table lights only" vibe here. -There was live music when we came. The music is a bit loud downstairs, and I wouldn't call the acoustics great, but the band themselves were fantastic and energetic. Very friendly and had a great vibe for the space. Our bartender, Hank, was fantastic, though. Absolutely MADE the experience, and Entropy is lucky to have him. Super friendly guy who understands the balance between too much talking and giving you some space. His drinks were well-poured and very balanced. This includes when he had some deadtime and offered to make us drinks if we just let him know what spirit and flavor profile we were thinking. The drinks were delicious and, again, very well-balanced. Hank could probably work quite a bit more magic with a larger spirits selection, but he was very good at what he did. We had a great time, and we'd definitely return. I'm not sure the return visit would be nearly as amazing without Hank though. He really made the entire experience a memorable one that we'll look back on instead of just a "solidly okay speakeasy".
