Recently, we had ordered a small cake from the Deerfields Bakery in Buffalo Grove, and really loved it.   A few days ago, while I was in the Deerfield area, I decided to stop by the Deerfield location for the first time in at least five or six years. This bakery has gone through a nice renovation. It is clean, bright, modern, and pleasant, just like the one in Buffalo Grove, except that it is a lot smaller.  Since it was after 4:00 pm when I went, within an hour of closing, some of the shelves were already empty, which is understandable and probably a good sign for the business. Out of nostalgia, I purchased a big smiley face cookie for $3.95.   The girl who helped me was very polite and friendly even though I was just purchasing one cookie.  That made the visit even more pleasant.  However, I would likely get some other baked goods instead next time, as this cookie and its icing were quite hard, and just tasted like a lot of sugar. I am deducting one star mostly because of the parking situation.  There are only four parking spaces by the building, once these spaces are occupied, customers have to walk to the parking lot in the back that's diagonal from the bakery, and cross a busy driveway shared with a bank.  This can be especially inconvenient when carrying a cake. Since the Buffalo Grove location is much larger and has its own parking lot that makes parking easy, I will most likely continue going to the Buffalo Grove location unless I happen to be in the Deerfield area.

The signature chocolate donut barely tastes like chocolate anymore, and whatever chocolate is there feels cheaper and thinner than it used to be. The birthday cake donut? Honestly tasted like an Entenmann's donut--fine, but nothing special and definitely not bakery-worthy. The prices are still decent, but I'd gladly pay a little more if it meant bringing back the old recipes and higher-quality ingredients. These cookies are the largest (In depth) cookies I have ever encountered. Thick and delicious with rich butter flavor is the best way for me to describe them. At the thickest section of the cookie - unfortunately was of a sandy milli consistency, yet the butter taste was throughout. Biscoff Cookie Butter Bundt Cake: Nothing Bundt Cakes (NBC) has become one of my favorite guilty…read morepleasures. I especially enjoy their individual sized "Bundtlets". The Biscoff Cookie Butter flavor first stormed the scene as a "pop-up" Bundtlet in fall 2025. It's back by popular demand from 1/5-2/15/26. Opening the container, the cake itself had a light brown/tan color. The official description is a Bundtlet baked with Biscoff cookies and drizzled with cookie butter (and of course their delicious, sweet cream cheese frosting). As usual, the texture is superb, with one of the best aspects of their cakes being the exceptional moistness of them. In this case, the cookie butter drizzle contributes to the moistness factor. The flavor of the actual cake leans toward generic spice or cinnamon. Bites containing the cookie butter drizzle and/or pieces of Biscoff Cookie make the signature flavor pronounced on the taste buds though. The Biscoff cookies are not crisp, but soft. I can't really hold this against NBC because unless eaten immediately after prep it's almost impossible to keep them crisp. It's also important to note that the cookies are baked throughout the cake and not just the conspicuous one decorating the summit. My only real complaint is it was a missed opportunity not to include cookie butter as a filling in the core, especially since this had a dollar upcharge. With the similar enough Snickerdoodle flavor being recently discontinued, I would like to see the Biscoff made a permanent member alongside the OREO Cookies & Cream (their best in my opinion).
