The staff seemed a little confused trying to match up the order numbers to the tables, and we almost got run over on our way out by a waiter sprinting to the patio! But even with the fast-paced environment, the food is wonderful whether you eat in or grab takeout. Definitely worth a visit! A much better experience here than MY 1st time. I think it's because they enlarged the dining area with more table space. It's still hard to have a conversation due to the high ceilings which echo the sound.

Our daughter's favorite customized cake was an 8" to 10" chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling, and chocolate whipped cream frosting, which was huge, rich, and delicious. Ever since she was little, it also became a tradition to pick up a big smiley face cookie for her whenever we picked up a cake. Recently, we had ordered a small cake from the Deerfields Bakery in Buffalo Grove, and really loved it. A few days ago, while I was in the Deerfield area, I decided to stop by the Deerfield location for the first time in at least five or six years. This bakery has gone through a nice renovation. It is clean, bright, modern, and pleasant, just like the one in Buffalo Grove, except that it is a lot smaller. Since it was after 4:00 pm when I went, within an hour of closing, some of the shelves were already empty, which is understandable and probably a good sign for the business. Out of nostalgia, I purchased a big smiley face cookie for $3.95. The girl who helped me was very polite and friendly even though I was just purchasing one cookie. That made the visit even more pleasant. However, I would likely get some other baked goods instead next time, as this cookie and its icing were quite hard, and just tasted like a lot of sugar. I am deducting one star mostly because of the parking situation. There are only four parking spaces by the building, once these spaces are occupied, customers have to walk to the parking lot in the back that's diagonal from the bakery, and cross a busy driveway shared with a bank. This can be especially inconvenient when carrying a cake. Since the Buffalo Grove location is much larger and has its own parking lot that makes parking easy, I will most likely continue going to the Buffalo Grove location unless I happen to be in the Deerfield area.

As employees were already putting away the bread, I politely asked if I could grab a piece before everything was picked up. I was told that the bread was being moved to the front and that someone would assist me there. While I waited, two other groups entered after me. They heard the same information and ended up being helped before I was, despite the employees knowing that I had been waiting first. I politely asked twice for assistance and was told to continue waiting while the other groups were served. What made the situation more frustrating was that the customers ahead of me were taking a long time deciding what they wanted. I had already put on a plastic glove and was prepared to select my own bread, but I was told that wasn't necessary because an employee would help me. While waiting, I witnessed one of the teenagers from a group point directly at the bread, and another teenager pushed their hand into it. This happened in front of the employees, and no one addressed the situation or reminded them not to touch the food. As someone who was trying to follow proper sanitation practices, I found this very concerning. Not only did this happened once but 2,3 times infront of them. Yet nothing was addressed. After being ignored, waiting while others were served ahead of me, and seeing unsanitary behavior go unaddressed, I decided to leave without making a purchase. I was disappointed by both the customer service and the lack of attention to food handling standards.

I open it and it is a gift from a place I'd made a rather large purchase. Thanks! When I opened the outer box the wonderful smell of butter and other sweet fragrances hit my nose. As I open the inner box I see four (4) huge cookies! they come wrapped in cellophane bags with a cute ribbon. There were no names of the flavored cookies, yet I took an educated guess. These cookies are the largest (In depth) cookies I have ever encountered. Thick and delicious with rich butter flavor is the best way for me to describe them. At the thickest section of the cookie - unfortunately was of a sandy milli consistency, yet the butter taste was throughout. I will say that if I am in the area of where the cookie shop is, I will definitely stop in to purchase some - as I sure hope they are clearly marked/identified. P.S. Thank you for the Sweet Treats...You know who you are!

I never usually write Yelp reviews but I felt like I had to this time. My husband and I got married this Spring and we both felt that our Baking Institute cake was one of the highlights of our wedding. Igor and his staff were amazing, from our first tasting on we knew that we found the right place. Our cake was out of this world, 4 tiers of amazing flavors and unbelievably gorgeous. So fresh, so moist and oh so delish!!! I had a vision of what I wanted my cake to look and taste like and I honestly feel like The Baking Institute delivered on all accounts. To this day, I'm getting calls from guests asking where we got our cake from! My hubby and I HIGLY recommend this place to anyone that's looking for that perfect wedding cake. You will not be disappointed! read more

My wife and I ordered our wedding cake here. We had high standards for them regarding that it was a big event for us. The cake tasted great but the owner decided to change the colors we wanted last minute without consulting anyone. Note: it did look like a wedding cake just not our wedding cake. I don't think they realize that pictures last forever. Its upsetting that the owner denies such a making big mistake with all the notes, emails, and picture references we supplied him. I don't recommend, not worth taking a chance. read more

I was thrilled when I saw it and most importantly, it tasted delicious! I brought the top tier to my parents since my husband and I were going on our honeymoon and it was gone in less than a week! Kristen created the most beautiful centrepieces I've ever seen. Most of the guests couldn't tell they were cupcakes until we made the announcement. She even made a cake for the soon to be bride and groom to practice on for the big day. We opted for an array of cupcake flavours: chocolate, red velvet, lemon, banana, and vanilla. All of the flavours were highly complimented by the guests. We even asked for her to use a different holder to go with our rustic theme. Kristin accepted the challenge and found the most perfect rustic vessel to use. I would highly recommend Kristin to anyone. I look forward to working with her in the future.

Fast forward 40 years, after I moved away for 30 years, then moved back, and I thought they'd closed and were gone. A post in my neighborhood Facebook group alerted me that they'd moved, but were still very much in business. I was thrilled! So I ordered a bunch of pastries to enjoy on Mother's Day and beyond this year, and they're fantastic, and the prices are unbelievably reasonable! My favorites are the Napoleons (flaky, creamy, and dreamy) and the eclairs (custardy and delicious), but everything we got (also cream puffs, bear claws, and rum balls) were delicious. I'm getting ready now to place my next order. I highly recommend that you try them if you're in the area and like cakes or pastries!

We ordered a 2 tier cake, fit to serve 72 servings for our son's 1st birthday banquet on from this…read morebakery through their venue partner, Metropolis. We have had over a dozen emails and a few phone call exchanges where we communicated about the details of this cake to the venue. I'm not sure if this was missed completely and she didn't forward our feedback over to the bakery or what happened but it was so off. We provided many sample pictures for themes and colors. We don't understand how the piping of the cake came out to be NOTHING like the picture we asked for, the final design that we communicated. Our cake came out looking mismatched in style and colors. You can see my photo and judge for yourself. That design we submitted and asked for were light and pastel colors, our cake on the other hand came out with a very dark colors of black, blues, purple, etc. and it did not match in style or colors with the rest of the cake which was pastel. The piping was gel and not butter-creamed as we have been told. We were never told that it would be gel. We do not like the gel look at all, and if we had known this, we would not approve. We were also told that it was possible to do the theme in buttercream but we had no final confirmation of what the bakery will actually piped from either vendors (banquet hall nor bakery). This made us nervous but we trusted in the e-mail communications and that it would be delivered to our satisfaction. We even paid an extra $1/pp to Metropolis for the top design because we were told by them that it contained high levels of "intricacies" which consisted of yellow piping stars on the side and the final design on top. We did not feel that the look of the cake was cohesive and our family agrees, the top layer even started to cave in a little when it was brought to the table. A disappointment for a cake that is over $250. Despite what the owners say, we were NOT offered a cake consultation by either vendors. We WOULD have wanted a consultation but none was offered. No one reached out. We did our part to communicate what we wanted, it just did not happen. Following our event, the owner Joe, called on 3/29 and OFFERED to make us another cake. He said that he understand that they can't bring the day back but what he can do is make us another cake and would like to give us the opportunity to tour their bakery, see their other cake designs and what they are capable of. He painted a very pretty picture and it all sounded nice. We thought he was sincere so we agreed and thanked him. On 4/7, I followed up with Joe about this make-up cake. He told me his business was swamped with Easter so to follow up in 2 weeks. This led me to believe he was still good with his word. We had planned to use the make-up cake for a family photo session and intended to post the new cake photos and update our review. On 4/19, I called, Joe RETRACTED his offer over the phone. During this time, Metropolis offered us a compensation to amend our experience and for the mishap of our event. From this, Gladstone believes because we got some money back from the banquet, they do no longer have to keep their promise on their end. In addition, Joe insisted on the phone and via e-mail that we need to FIX or REMOVE our review since we have been "taken care" of now. On 4/20, we received a very angry phone call from the co-owner /wife of Joe /PR person, Michelle. It was not even a proper phone conversation. She right out said "you guys are greedy, you want a free cake". It was like being slapped in the face. We didn't ask for this cake! They offered, and THEY BACKED OUT. It was unbelievable. It felt like talking to an aunt that you quarrel with. She called us to just yell at us. Who does that?? I stopped listening after the name-calling. It was UNACCEPTABLE AND INAPPROPRIATE the way she talked to us as if we were children. She told us we cannot interrupt her and had to keep QUIET while she was speaking, she spoke OVER us. She told us she doesn't want us as clients future or current anyways. She told us we have to take down our review and made threats. Over the next few days, they called and left messages; we are on a brink of harassment. We never waived our personal information over from Metropolis to them so if they continue to do this, it will be an issue of legal maters. Our review was for our lack of satisfaction with the cake. It is what it is. It can only be added further that after they backed out on a promise, it only reflects badly on them. We can't undo our review, just like our experience can't be undone. They need to leave it be and not freak out over a 1-star review. Every business gets feedback and have to deal with it. It's how you handle the feedback that shows your strength. How can you be in business for so long and not be able to take criticisms, think it's okay to go back on your words, and be so unprofessional and RUDE? Truly a huge disappointment.

I knew we would want Jo Jos Shake Bar since it's always a hit with kids (and adults too), but also wanted to have a fabulous sweets table. For my daughter's bat mitzvah we did it at ravinia festival and they had brought in a bunch of different dessert vendors including Desiree Chocolates. Her desserts were not only delicious (i ate the leftovers for about a month from my freezer), but also absolutely beautiful. When my event planner suggested we reach out to Desiree for sweets I was all in. Desiree made the process pretty easy. We set up a call to discuss our needs and decided on a sweets table + a churro cart. Then many months later we got together for a dessert tasting, which my son claims was the most fun part of the mitzvah planning process. We loved it all, but even added a few of our favorites to her menu- cheesecakes, carrot cake to name a few. The sweets table and churros cart were absolutely perfection and I love how she did a great job of tying my son's tennis theme into it too. I had a few bites of sweets that night since i was too busy socializing to eat much, but i took home a few trays of desserts and fudge and have been munching on them ever since. This time I only took home a bit because i didn't want to eat it for a month like i did last time, but we did have quite a bit leftover - probably since a lot of people filled up on Jo Jos Shake Bar. However, I've had so many compliments since the party on Desiree's cake pops, churros and other desserts so they were a big hit once again. I would definitely use Desiree for future events again- she makes fabulous sweets and displays it all beautifully!

What an amazing offering of items to choose from! The cake pops were well received, and who doesn't love a chocolate covered oreo? I think I had one of those Dubai candy bars that are all the rage (or maybe were all the rage, I'm often behind the trends) and it was one of the best things I've eaten period. The custom churro bar is lots of fun and would be easy to set up wherever you need it. And everything is decorated perfectly, from the confections themselves to the tables and plates they sit on! Desiree Chocolates is a great option for whatever event you've got, just bring your sweet tooth!

Papagalino is an excellent bakery in Niles…read more I saw they have a dine in/restaurant and bar area as well with a patio, but I only tried their bakery section for take out so far. The bakery is excellent. I tried their Mocha Cappuccino cake - delicious and big portion! Maybe one of the best kinds of these cakes I've tried before. I love all the parrot decor inside the bakery as well. The employees I encountered were very helpful and friendly. I definitely recommend the bakery section of Papagalino for their cakes, and I will be back to try the restaurant piece in the future.
