Lots of different desserts. Was hoping to find a cheesecake, but those are preorder only. They did have lots of different fruit tarts available. Came home with 2- one assorted fruit tart and 1 mango one. Both had a good amount of fruit on a nice light flaky tart shell, with subtle sweetness to both. The location also offered other pastries, cakes, and breads, and there was a self serve area. My only complaint was that service was subpar. The woman helping me behind the counter seemed annoyed that I was asking what was what and how much it was- but in all fairness nothing was labeled or priced out. They do have a chalk board listing on what they carry but it doesn't help when you can distinguish which is which is the actual case. It was my first time in as well, so I was taking my time looking over my options. Many times I felt like I should've just left, but didn't. Not sure if I'll stop by again. I rather go down the street to Bent Fork Bakery where my business was welcomed. read more

Wow. Wow-wow-wow. My daughter and I were looking for a treat most of the local bakeries had closed and decided to try The Gourmet Frog. With respect to the business, my expectations were low, the place was quiet and mid holiday decoration removal, the employees were distracted with the business of running a business. We ordered a couple of treats and: delicious. Fresh. Almond tarte - perfectly crisp on the outside, lovely light and a little chewy on the inside, and the flavor rich and not too sweet. Delicious as always, popped in today because it was after 4, and bent fork was closed. I was hoping to pick up some cupcakes, the gourmand frog doesn't make cupcakes but they make lovely fresh and delicious deserts such as the mini ones I purchased. Here's what you need to know: TERRIFIC bakery that has withstood the test of time and maintained its quality year after year. Aside from the absolutely great tasting French treats and super charming bakeshop interior, it's all very reasonably priced. BRAVO! It's hard for me to patronize a bakery across the street from Bent Fork (feels like I'm cheating), but here I am writing glowing reviews for Gourmet Frog Bakery. Don't get me wrong, I'm not new to Froggy's - I've been buying whole cakes, pastries (the European use of that term meaning slices of cake in the US), and tarts from this shop since 2002 but fell out of touch for some years owing to my obsession with other bakeries like Lana's in Wheeling, Bittersweet and Mindy's in the city, and Bent Fork right next to it in Highwood. But I'm back now, and it's so very sweet (no pun intended). The fruit tarts are divine, the chocolate mousse cakes are spectacular, and the French macaroons are never enough... Everything they make is a pleasure for the eyes and taste buds. The decor is charming and wonderful too, like a little shop full of culinary treasures - a new discovery each month. Well done! My favorite French bakery outside of France. Authentic pastries, cakes, and breads. Every time we celebrate a birthday in our family, this the place we purchase our cakes. The chocolate ganache is absolutely out of this world! Do not miss the chocolate eclairs or the napoleons! I have tried many of the French bakeries in Chicago, but no one comes close to Gourmet Frog in terms of taste or quality! Cannot say enough about this bakery and their amazing cakes! Our daughter chose several different cakes from here for her wedding (white/dark chocolate mousse, chocolate/berry extravaganza and passion fruit) to serve on a "dessert table". They delivered to the reception venue. Many guests commented that it was the best cake they'd ever had at a wedding!! Picked up a few quiches for the morning of the wedding that were absolutely delicious to serve with a light salad while the girls were getting ready. Everything was perfect!!! read more

This is one of the best Bakery in the area. It has beautifully decorated cakes and tasty baked goods. My favorites are Napoleon and mixed fruit tart. It is two doors down from the Froggy's restaurant and has many common entreesfor carry-out. One can order these to try it out instead of eating in the restaurant. If you have a special occasion to celebrate and need a cake this is your place. Two fan favorite flavors are the Chocolate Extravaganza and the Chocolate Berry. I haven't tried the fruit tarts but they are most definitely a treat for eyes and I can only assume the mouth as well. Not inexpensive but worth every penny. You are not going to find cakes like these anywhere else close by. There is also a small section of non-baked goods. They have containers of soup, made for the Froggy's restaurant. My family and I have been going to this place for years! They always have delicious pastries, desserts, cakes, everything! We absolutely love the berry chocolate cake, yum! It is always good, no matter what season of the year it is. I would say the place is a lil pricey, but it is a French bakery afterall. The service is exceptional-I've ordered a 25 person cake the day before on a Friday for a Saturday and it was done and fresh w/ no complaints. For a last minute treat, you can't beat this place!
