I went in as I was super excited to see a vegan bakery. It did not disappoint. The scones and muffins are big and have fresh fruit in them. It's hard to believe they are vegan because they don't have a weird texture or taste like some vegan products have. It's definitely come a long way and this bakery is keeping up! The owner is friendly and conversational. It's more of a grab and go place but definitely recommend for a nice little treat. read more

The scone part of the blueberry scone I had was actually good. However, it was a blueberry scone, but mostly in name only. It had like 4 blueberries on top and 1.5 inside, so I was mostly eating a very plain scone. Otherwise, it would've been great read more

I came across this bakery when I was walking to a nearby coffee shop. Lately I've been buying more vegan items for my children to avoid dairy. I was surprised by how many options they had. There were pastries and cakes - all vegan. My children chose chocolate marshmallow brownies. The employees let me sample the scraps of the brownie and it was super tasty. It is much pricier than your typical pastry - the two brownies cost me $29 after tip. Libby's Corner (a vegan Jamaican catering company) was visiting and we ended jp purchasing a large Cajun plate with 5 items (also for $29). read more

I can't believe I haven't left a review yet! I probably was too busy enjoying all of the delicious vegan goods Oscar offers! Top recommendations; Oscar's pizza, the Walker Bro Apple Pancake vegan version, the muffins, and the breakfast sandwiches made with tofu with biscuits or his sourdough bread. Oh! and the fake tuna salad always good! Not sure if I can ever include a photo, my family eats so much in the car before we even get the food in the house. read more

The Chunky Scone is far and away a must-visit vegan bakery in Highland Park, in the Ravinia neighborhood. The location is fantastic, it's directly across from a public parking lot with a couple spots in front, (usually taken the 2 times I've visited), and very close to the Ravinia train station. And THE SCONES! I cannot properly express my delight with these delicacies without squealing. The bakery is all vegan, with several gluten free options. The tres leches cup is made of 3 kinds of vegan milks, and the blueberries were the best blueberries I think I have ever had. It was delicate but satisfying, while being creamy and smooth. The pear scones have a great combination of cinnamon and cardamom. The gluten free blueberry muffin was dense, i thought it had the mouth feel of a combination of almond flour and corn flour, pleasantly so. I think I personally prefer the scones, but for someone exclusively GF, they'd love the muffins. Oscar is a pleasure to talk to. He mentioned they do a lot of pop up events, and they post about this on their Instagram and Facebook. The shop is cozy and inviting, and I've been basking in the experience since visiting! The service was great as Oscar was able to tell me about the different items that I was interested in. As a self proclaimed foodie with a decent breadth of food experience, I highly recommend a visit to this bakery! read more

Incredibly delicious baked goods!! Friendly owner who makes it a joy to patronize his business. I don't live anywhere close to the bakery but I happily travel there. Highly recommend! read more

Highland Park has a new bakery. It also happens to be entirely plant based, so no butter and eggs. The Chunky Scone is among the fancy hip places in Ravinia. For this, the prices are actually pretty good. They have a large variety of cakes, cookies, and more. Came by after getting something from somewhere else around here. It was saying there was a vegan bakery, so I had to get something. This is just a small place, so most people will place an order and take it with them. Even so, there's a few tables outside. There's quite a lot to choose from, so we got a few things. It's about $3 for a cookie. One of these is the Vegan Chocolate Scone. It was baked pretty well and crumbly. There wasn't too much sweetness, just like a regular scone. Also intriguing was the Vegan Dulce De Leche Cake. It's $8 for a cup. This is a cake normally made with milk. I had never had this kind before. This cake is almost like a pudding. Pretty sweet, so being vegan isn't always being healthy. This was pineapple flavored, with cherries and pineapple pieces. Also had some vegan whipped cream. They have some other flavors of this. Good place for baked goods that are plant based. It's a small place so it's mainly to go. There's lots of classic desserts that have been turned into something acceptable for vegans. read more

The Chunky Scone - The Vegan Chocolate Chip Scone And Vegan Dulce De Leche Cake - Bakeries Near Me - Highland Park, Illinois

Ordered a blueberry scone. It was good, especially when you had a good bite with a few blueberries in it. Without the blueberry it was dry and very doughy in taste. I get it, it's vegan but I've had vegan pasties on the east coast and they tasted more like their non-vegan cousins. The shop is small and there was a pretty small selection to order from. Don't think there was coffee there, so we went around the corner to a coffee shop. Would have liked to have seen more variety as well as lunch vegan offerings. Service was good, but when we asked for other items they weren't available when we were there only on 'busier days' which was an interesting comment. read more

I absolutely loved the vegan gluten-free baked goods my partner got for us from The Chunky Scone - so delicious, excellent texture / mouth feel, and easy to digest! Today, we went while Simbiótico Coffee was there, and the oat milk latte was incredible. Stepping inside for the first time, today; I was impressed by how good everything smelled and the wide variety of food & goodies on display. The location is very convenient, on St. Johns Ave. just north of Roger Williams Ave., directly across from the "Ravinia Train Station North" parking lot. If it's not too busy, you can park in the metered lot for free (read the signs for restrictions). There's free street parking around the area, as well. It's a small location, but apparently they're really efficient so there's rarely a line. There are also a lot of cool shops and the nearby park is really nice (they occasionally have food trucks there in the summer), so it's worth a walkthrough. There are a few outdoor seats, and the park is very close, so I can walk my dog while my partner runs in for baked goodies. Everyone at The Chunky Scone is so friendly! I love the mega-chill vibe they have, and I'm so happy to see they're fans of lucha libre freestyle wrestling (they've even co-sponsored a vegan market with lucha libre performances featuring GALLI stars like Lince Dorado, Bandolero, Aramís, El Torero, Sexy Star II, Shazza McKenzie, Victor "El Sueño" Iniestra, and more). I look forward to my partner - who loves this place - bringing home more goodies from The Chunky Scone. If I'm in the area, I might also pop in occasionally for a treat. read more

This little vegan bakery is delicious!!! ...And I'm not even vegan. I love their Buffalo tofu wraps--yummm! I brought home some of their muffins--devoured! They're flavorful and moist, not dry. I'm really impressed! There's a nice, attentive owner. This place has been in the Ravinia area for a couple of years, but I've only just discovered it. Wish I had walked in sooner b/c I highly recommend it whether your vegan or not. read more

I love this bakery. Oscar the owner and chef is the nicest guy. They have vegan and gluten free options with a nice variety of items. Not a typical scone, as it's less sugary. Come check them out! read more

The best tofu wrap I've ever had. Normally I'm not even the tofu eater, but we were hungry and stopped in for a bite, and it was a complete surprise about how good it was. Also had a slice of vegan pizza which was absolutely delightful. Highly recommend this. read more
